Exchange Server Mail Issue - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Hey guys, so when I setup my exchange mail for work it tells me toward the end that I need to do certain things security wise on my device: i.e. disable camera, use a lockscreen password, format my device, ect. I know it a certificate/provision issue but is there a hack/mod that allows me to get around this? I really need my push email from work but I will not do what it wants me to do. This is my personal device and the security provisions are ridiculous. ALso, it didn't ask me to do any of this on my iPhone. Thanks!

I'm pretty sure it's asking you for remote administration privileges to your phone. This is a requirement. IT departments are required to remote wipe your device if it is still registered on their server if you quit/get fired. I'm pretty sure the iPhone accepts it by default.
There are mods to remove it. Go to the Themes/Apps sections. Thanks.
I apologize, it was in Android Development. Here is the link. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1968825&highlight=exchange

You're awesome dude, thanks! I I thought it was telling me I had to wipe the device. I need to find out if the link you gave me works with CyanogenMOD 10.0.0

Software Suggestion

Hey developers,
I have got a ral challanging project for you.
Idea is, we have to create a login software for windows mobile 6. Phone must ask you password while unlocking from standby mode. Here, there is a twist.
Usually, there is only one user and only one password. But, this software must provide multiple user login support.
Let me explain:
For exmaple, say, 'QWERTY' is the default password. Now, if user enters using this password, he should be provided with full access of the device (as usual.) But, if secondary password, say, 'ASDFGH' is entered, he should be provided limited access to the device. Default password user should have menu to specify which features secondary user is allowed to use. Like, when secondary password is used, keep some specified files hidden, limited programs avilable etc.
Primary objective of this software is to keep some contents hidden from secondary user, which will be available for primary ,i.e., default user. Though, WinMo is the thing made for personal use, everybody will agree that, it, sometimes, falls in wrong hands and pulls owner in embrassing situations. (For example, imagine your partner getting known to all your secreats by viewing your Pocket PC and you can't restrict him/her from doing so.)
I hope, anybody will come up with correct thing.
Thank you.
i got clear of what you wanted, but dunno what your question is...
are you gonna create some application from scratch, or just stuck by some specific issue? or sth else is your query?

I want the application to be created by some developer as I am not that good at developing. (though I am a good beta taster!) I want this so that we can tell secondary password to other people so that our data remains safe and simultaneously we are rescued from making statement-"I'm sorry, but I can't tell you password!"
Idea is good, but you have to take initiative steps first...
Edited the poll: changed the title: "how many times" to "With who" since that makes more sense in respect to the options.
Added "with no-one" to complete the poll.

EqX

Well, as I told, I wish somebody else to do it. I'm not good at developing.

Yes! You're right. Thanks for improving the poll. Think about my suggestion. Can anybody take up the project?

Email Alerts - BlackBerry Better?

My main email is Exchange. I keep my sound off for general emails, but I want to hear emails that are flagged as "High Importance". I used to be able to do this on my BlackBerry. How can I do this with my Incredible?
Thank you,
Seth

I use TouchDown, and I don't see anything like that in its set up or options. I also didn't see it in their User Guide, so I emailed their support. They are pretty quick with responses. I can keep you posted. For the native ActiveSync setup, I don't think it's possible without some sort of OS update to allow that, again, if it is possible to do. Maybe someone else has done this, maybe with some other sort of app or something, and they'll post if needed.
From Nitro Desk support: Yes this can be done in Settings>advanced Manage rules. You can set the filter to High Importance and create a custom notification for it. For general emails you can just set no notification. You'll see a notification in the bar but no sound will be made.
The app however is a one time fee of $20. Pricey but I love it, plus my company paid for it. You may be able to try it with the native activesync the phone has, not sure if you can adjust the notifications though.
Hope this helps!
Sent from my other girlfriend, according to my current girlfriend.
Thanks!
Thank you for helping with a solution.
$20 is a bit pricey for any phone app, specially one with functionality that is 90% duplicated by OS functionality.
Speaking of OS functionality....does anyone know if Gingerbread or Honeycomb has more advanced Exchange client functionality?

[Q] Windows phone 7 - Can you use it as a lock down device.

I'm trying to find out how to lock down a WM7 so that It Is only able to use its basic functions phone, camera, gps but blocks access to the to certain sites and the downloading of certain apps (i.e. games).
Would I be looking at a creating Custom Rom or is there another way to control what the phone can have access to.
Any Ideas or help would be appreciated.
K
at present there is no capability to perform this.
Well, who do you want to lock it down for?
You won't be able to download apps without a Live ID, so if your kids don't have it, they'll have pretty locked down devices.

I think it is not possible at the moment.
Desktop Windows has only had effective parental controls since Vista (2007). (There were relatively ineffective third party ones before.) Windows CE 6 (2006) only supports basic controls: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee499001.aspx. And WP7 is built on CE6. Although WP7 is heavily controlled by its own mechanisms, so it could be added.
Management of controls was connected to Windows Live with Windows 7. This system could be added to phones, but it's all fairly new and there are other things to do first.
Thanks for the response guys
From what has been said it seems that this not really possible.
We are currently looking at what devices we need to acquire, and we need devices that can be locked down (Don't ask me why - management decision, probably related to data usage costs) so that user can only use it for work related tasks.
So OUT go things like gaming and social networking,
And IN are normal phone tasks's calling, texting, email, camera and the ability to sync to the cloud aslo, gps navigation.
We are looking at the WP7 phones because of Sharepoint as we have a lot of development planned that way and would like the ability to access that information remotely via a device.
Does anyone know of another way to achieve this or do I have to delve deeper Into the inner workings Wp7. Or failing that look at at different hardware/software.
Regards
K
MS should eventually update WP7 to be compatible with all the Exchange Activesync security policies which will give you the capability to achieve what you want. Additionally they have said they will add features so that enterprises will have the ability to lock down devices as they choose so if you are using Exchange already you may want to wait and see what MS produces. And you could always contact MS and see if they will let your company know what is coming down the road so you can decide whether to wait or not.

to lockdown marketplace (disable totally) you simply have to mod "LKG_Tuner_Config.xml"
and there would def be a reg mod to disable facebook
maybe this (I am looking for more
Code:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Facebook\{A27A1782-535E-8F2D-9B81-4B6BA08FC179}]
"AccountState"=dword:3
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Facebook\[email protected]\Auth]
"State"=dword:[B][U]1[/U][/B]
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\GameFoundation]
"XboxLiveEnabledFlags"=dword:3
after you did that you can relock the phone and off you go

What are the implication of doing this ?

[Q] Email APK - No Exchange Security

Does anyone have or know where to find an email apk that bypasses exchange security?
At the moment I am using AOKP but do not want to let me work dictate how to use my personal device.
Any help is much appreciated.
Sorry to ask, don't want to be an ass but then why would you want to receive your work mail on your personal device?
The work email contains data from your employer and he will want to protect that from unauthorised access... He has the same right to do so and to ask you to protect his data as you have to decide how you want to use your personal device.
Only one "real" solution: ask your employer a phone that is his and you can use for this purpose or don't get your email at all when away from your desk...
Anyway, to answer your question: I never saw such an apk floating around here so I'm not sure it exists...
They indeed do exist.
I'm all for data security since I work in the IT field I just don't think that I should let someone else control my who, what, and where on what I own.
If I wanted an original droid, or a blackberry, I would have gotten one assigned from work but that comes with inherent problems of accounting and having to carry another device.
clearly you dont care about data security. you made the choice to use your personal device for business. you must adhere to the same rules as a person who uses a business device for their business needs.
i also have seen the email.apk without security, but i dont know where.
Seriously, I don't need the holy bible of data security practices. What I need is the apk so I can push it and be done.
And it can be found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1117452

Completely secure phone

Hi,
the Replicant team made me aware of something.
Replicant is an Android fork ROM that emphasizes on security and privacy (e.g. they removed all Google services from Android).
This is their article I'm talking about:
http://replicant.us/2013/11/fairphone/
I think all the software is free now (correct me if it isn't). Links in benkxda's thread.
But what about the modem being embedded in the SoC? I guess that's the case?
That would mean the Fairphone is not completely secure.
So let's make ourselves heard that we would be happy to see the next device without a modem embedded on the SoC.
What the Fairphone has achieved in regard to openness and fairness so far is considerable and great! I'd like that to continue, so that's why I bring this up.
some security possible?

Hi Unrelashade,
thank you for bringing this topic up. I think complete security is not possible - even the encrypted blackberry of cancellor Merkel was hacked.
But "some" security should be possible - and I think the main problem is me: The things I do wrong, the rights I give to apps and the way I do backup and data storage. So I kindly would like to aks you guys for some advice - How can I save my private data and also my companies data from data selling companies or a theft?
So I try a combination of:
* active sync of my data (e-mails, contacts, ...) with my own server (egroupware) - no sync with google or other free services
* encryption of phone storage with good password
* possibility to wipe my phone remotely in the case I loose it (not testet yet)
* Xposed & Xprivacy to limit data distribution by some apps
Now I have the feeling, that Xprivacy could kill the remote wipe - that would be very bad.
Furthermore, I am not familiar with the settings in egroupware - I did not find the remote wipe function yet or other active sync security features.
And I am missing a good backup methode - save and practical. Finally there may be a lot of things I do not know yet but I should take care of.
Could you help me to improve security in a reasonable way? Could you point me to a how-to with android and the egroupware ?

You're right, secure is not the right word. What I mean is that most phones might be used as a remote spying device. There is a way to build them so that this is not possible and that's worth working towards as a goal, imo.
On security with Android in general there are probably a lot of good threads/ websites, e.g. see the posts of the xda portal (news) tagged with "say sayonara" (to google services):
http://www.xda-developers.com/tag/say-sayonara/
To me it sounds like the only step you need to take to protect your data is to uninstall/ not install Google Services. They're deeply embedded into Android but there are people who work for a Google free Android system, see my link from the OP to replicant or e.g. this thread by Marvin
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1715375
I'm not sure if the fairphone system that is downloadable is completely free of Google Services, you may want to check that.
The only thing left then is that the Fairphone is still a smartphone with the modem embedded on the SoC. That still makes it possible to be used as a remote spying device (see my OP) if I understand it correctly.
