Few thoughts about 4.2.1 stock camera app - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hi,
1) No button to start either recording or taking photos. Always I need to switch to either video camera or photo. And the process is so laggy.
Maybe there is a way to have shortcut directly to video camera rather than to photo camera?
2) Do you feel that camera app is laggy? For instance switching to last photo with a gesture is slow. And if you turn/rotate the phone - it is dead for a few seconds.

You can start the camera app and switch it to recording, it will keep the recording active till you shut down your device or force close the app. It's just a workaround. There's no way to link to recording with the stock camera app. And my phone has no lags so far, I can switch it from camera to recording and back again without a single lag. The gesture to open the last photo is sometimes a little bit tricky that it accepts my gesture but I can't see any lags.
What's your rom and kernel setup?

Stock rom
Franco kernel
Powermode is set to max (max freq is 1306mhz)
Thanks for your comments.

Kernel release?
Ever faced the lags on another rom?

r361. But same with other nightlies.
Never tried other ROMs as I am satisfied with stock.
I think I must live with it. Maybe it is ok and I just have big expectations.
I recall that camera on ICS was faster.

My phone is fluid and I can't reproduce the lags. Other roms could fix it, but if you are happy with stock then there's no reason to flash. 3rd party camera apps have you tried one of them?

[Q] Accessing gallery from Stock camera app

This is what I noticed about the Arc S stock camera app.
After taking a picture, I would usually go back to see if the picture is well taken. There is a direct shortcut from the camera app itself, but accessing the gallery through that "shortcut" is very slow and laggy.
Wanted to find out if this is a flaw in the arc S phone, even though the processor is supposed to be fast? Is this a common issue among the Arc S users?
I do not use any task killers, it is non-rooted, and I find the lagginess only happens whenever I use the (stock) gallery through the (stock) camera. For the gallery from the homescreen, I use QuickPic. Compare to the stock gallery, it is much faster.
I usually do a reboot after 3-4 days, or whenever I find it lags. But the rebooting doesn't seem to speed up the loading time of the gallery. Any clues on speeding up the loading time? Or if there is another trick on accessing the gallery quickly from the camera?

you can set the camera to open the images in Quickpic. if it doesn't give the option when you click then goto the gallery application is settings and clear it's defaults.
this is what i do.
Quickpic is awesome!
Pvy.
Hey thanks mate!
This method works. Couldn't believe why I didn't think of that! Lol..

Has anyone gotten Instagram to run on ICS?

App launches and runs smooth. However, when I go to take a picture, it freezes and sometimes reboots. Even importing a photo from gallery causes it to hang. I have auto-rotate and motion control set to off, and I have been using the Tasker + Ultimate Rotation Control workaround. Disabling the Tasker workaround didn't help. Since ICS isn't officially out for our phones, I guess the problem won't be officially fixed until T-989 gets its own kernel.
But if you have found a workaround to enabling the Instagram camera/import from gallery, please share!
I am having the same issue, oh well
It's a driver issue the developers are working on it
Samsung galaxy s2 almost ics lol
There was a update to instagram this morning, but im currently on stock GB rom right now. Has the new update fixed the camera issue on ICS roms?
What is soo great about Instagram? I d/l it but cant really see the value in in. Can some one please tell me the attraction?

[Q] What would be the best up to date camera app for the Xperia S?

I'm running Cyanogenmod 10 now, but I really don't like the Android 4.1 (nor 4.2) camera app.
The 4.1 camera wastes a whole lot of viewfinder space for the on-screen capture button, while the 4.2 camera only does pictures up to 8 megapixels and it crashes when tapping the screen while recording videos (probably due to the Xperia S being unable to do touch-focus in video mode)
Therefore I'd like to know what the best, most functional camera app of the moment is, for Android.
I'd like to be able to take both stills and videos with the same app, as well as being able to switch scene modes and use other common settings.
And more importantly, it has to look right. I want to be able to access everything I need quickly and it should feel as if it were a stock app.
If anyone could help me and probably others too, It'd be greatly appreciated. :good:
Stock camera.
Maybe Lg Camera.

How to stop camera from focusing

after upgrading to a KitKat rom (Paranoid) my camera is pretty much useless.
I tap the screen to focus. Click the button to take the picture. It goes from a perfectly clear picture to a completely out of focus picture. I never had this issue before.
I have went through my settings and do not see a manual focus setting.
Try a different camera app, I bought and use camera fx. If you use aosp roms frequently, I would suggest trying out a few camera apps and figure out which one works best for you. Again, aosp camera is pretty much junk, imo!

Camera app with working shutter speed adjustment?

I've been trying to use any of the cm customs roms and trying to use a camera app with shutter adjustment but none of the camera apps have working shutter adjustments. Has anyone found a camera app with it working?
Which apps did you try so far, in case others are having the same question?
Did you try manual camera?
You can test all features

The camera apps that support shutter speed (ProShot, Manual Camera, etc.) display the shutter speed but when you take a picture it doesn't actually work.

+1, and fv 5.
These cam apps (shutter speed) also don't work on stock OOS.

Manual camera with shutter speed works fine on my device running oos 3.2.2.
Just tried manual again and it doesn't work on 3.2.2.... App works but shutter speed freezes or just doesn't take a picture.

Try playing around with the iso and shutter-speeds a bit. I just now noticed that I have the same issue as you.
But, after a short time the app starts taking pictures as intended with various ISO and shutter-speed values.
I really don't know why it behaves like that and it used to work right after start with previous OOS versions.
