Most probably, i doubt they'll drop development of a device only released last year with such great specs, it'd be stupid. Plus even if they drop official development... we're in XDA, the possibilities are endless lmfao.

HOX will receive updates a long time from now. at least an year, i would say 2 years, but let's be more realistic
Updates......... let's not go there, your going to start a *****ing frenzy akin to JB.

I don't care if we get it officaly or not. We have Football, that means we can get even a Sense 6 custom rom)
Yeah, HTC metioned somewhere (cant find it) that flagship devices are ALWAYS supported for atleast 2 years from release.
If sense 5 comes before the 2 year then HOX should get it.

Your definition of supported might include new android releases, but I don't think "support" necessarily imply free OS upgrades...

That's exactly what they did to the Desire about a year after it was released. We got an update from 2.1 to 2.2 and that was the end of that. Kept being promised an update for 2.3 for a couple of months both by HTC and my provider, 3 Network and in the end they ditched it and the entire Desire platform. Which brought me to root my phone and install Cm7 on it and try out a whole host of other roms

Sense 4+ come in about 18 months of sensation Launch and here we are with 3.6, no update until now.
idk
i dont even think if its coming to htc one x, i dont think so because the jellybean didnt roll out to the other one series as well, only on the one x so i really dont know
The HTC One X is a flagship device, I bet it will continue to be developed for the foreseeable future.
Sent from my HTC One X
Usually htc will upgrade previous flagship device with their newer os but with different sense. Just like the evo 3d and sensation that upgraded to ics but with sense 3.6 unlike one x that comes along with sense 4.0. So maybe we'll get sense 4.6 rather than sense 5?

I fall in love with the new sense 5, but I'm thinking to buy a one x in order to wait for a lower price of the new one...
I already have htc sensation, the flagship of two years ago that don't received the sense 4 when htc one x and one s was released, and I'm pretty sure that one x won't receive the official sense 5.. maybe it will be update to android 4.2 and a light "sense 4.5", but nothing else in my opinion! I don't know if I should buy this device and use it for the next 7-8 months.. I'm so unsettled, I don't like tegra 3 cpu... Any one thinks that one x will have sense 5 rom ported from one? I know, it's too early, but I should take a decision in a short time!
I am pretty sure that the devs around here will be able to get it ported.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
I'm hoping that a backup of htc one image will be released soon, in order to start to have an opinion from devs... I'll decide if I should buy onex during the next week, and after that I've a short time...

No proprietory UI either.
Hopefully a Moto based device will come out, so we dont have to worry so much about build quality.

Because they make one phone/year, while most Android OEM's make 3-4/year so its hard to keep up updating every single one of em... Besides, Apple cuts most of the newest iOS features from the previous generations of iPhones, and thats something I havent seen happening on Android... You will either get everything from the newest Android versions, or not get it at all...

Huh?
It will be great if Desire receives ICS but I doubt because of marketing reasons. The guys from HTC want to sell their new phones to old customers as well as new ones so the old Desire won't get an ICS update, as it didn't get an Gingerbread one (with new Sense).
Desire isn't a recent device anymore
Sent from my Xoom using xda premium
Yeah, but I think there's a bit of good will at stake too. Many people are on contract with months left and aren't willing to shell fora new device just yet.
If HTC nurture the customers that have had a good experience with the desire (I'm one of them) perhaps they won't be lured off to samsung, motorolla, lg, huwai, nokia etc come end of contract.
I reckon if they could do it with sense they would.

Then you either spit moar dough when you buy it to get shorter contract, or you take a two year, and then don't whine every second about it. I won't even mention shelling two year contract in early 2011. and similar silly moves.
I think some of you are forgetting the Gingerbread update saga.
After several announcements and retractions from HTC only an unsupported developer build was released.
ICS will only ever be a custom build from the dev community.
Fingers crossed for CM9, hardware permitting

Desire was never a recent device in the first place.
If HTC could release ICS loaded with their sense experience, while leaving room in the rom for carrier apps they would. Perhaps it's naive of me, but there you have it.
Problem isn't the age, or the cpu, or even wanting to force you into a newer phone. It's the limited memory with which to drive a relatively high pixel count on the screen and a version of software that probably wasn't even dreamt of when the desire was getting her specs.
The development community will possibly be able to shoehorn ICS on, without sense, but htc is saying they don't have time to bother with that level of customisation for an older device. If it were simple they'd do it.

HTC's making money out of selling phones. The End.
Not from supporting new shinny flagship os's for "Mezozoic" phones.
Look at Apple, they support almost all new os's for deprecated phones but with small feature set and performance penalty.

I can foresee HTC releasing a dubbed down Sense 4.5. In my opinion it would not be in their best interest to release full Sense 5 for older generation phones when it's the major unique selling point for the newly released One handset.
If this were the case I would imagine some of the awesome developers within the rom community will port a full version after some time

Sensation also could handle sense 4, my old sensation was running it thanks to venom team. They said that its unable to handle sense 4, but its bull****. If they will upgrade hox to sense 5, it will stop a lot of people with one x to buy htc one, as they will have almost the same phone. It is business, I really doubt they will upgrade hox to sense 5. Well, we at xda will know that hox and one are not the same phones, but what about people that don't know much about phones? There are lots of people that quad-core hox with sense 5 and quad-core one with sense 5 are the same phones, just looks different. Lets say some guy that doesn't know to much about mobile phones. He sees hox and one, both quad-core, both running lets say android 4.2 and both with sense 5. It would mind for him if its tegra or snapdragon, a lot of people doesn't even know what RAM is, so he looks at a price, and what? Hox is much cheaper than one, but looks practically the same in terms of features. So why would he buy one if he could have the same (only in his mind) phone for much less money? But it woukdnt be the case if hox will be running sense 4.6, and one running "much better" (not really better, but well, lets say it is for that guy, as it's newer) sense 5. He would buy one only then. Hopefully you will get my point (and my "story") I hope all of you are right, but I've heard and seen to much about HTC to belevie it before I see it

Na if you would think a bit you would see that really all people know that no phone is the same....also people with no knowledge would look at the specs .....and other people which aren't here in xda wouldn't think we will get sense 4.6 or so because they don't know much about something like that...we WILL get sense 5 but the things with camera which needs image sense chip v2 aren't working then for us just wait and see

I watched some " hands on" vids on Utube, almost each one of them mentioned that it is more bareboned the sense 4/4+. And the htc one x handled sense 4+ extremly good, so i think that the problem isn't hardware related...

Will u think That there will be a Sense 6 Rom for our One x (or even an official update ) ?
Gesendet von meinem HTC One X mit Tapatalk
It's a question ?......open it in the Q&A section next time.
No not official.....maybe bits and pieces will be ported if someone is geeky enough to put their time and effort in it. But the complete sense 6 framework will never be ported.
The new apk system for sense 6 ingredients will make pouring parts of sense 6 easier . And to be honest I think porting all sense 6 to HTC sensation will be much easier than porting it to the more powerful HIX

Yeah tegra is tegra...

It is already confirmed that the only devices that will have OFFICIAL Sense 6 will be: One 2014, One, One Mini and One Max

Well, this is the reason why HTC is in the global position where it is. They do not care for their costumers, then we have our way to punish companies by boycotting their products.
If IPhone 4 can still receive updates (7.1 version) after almost 4 years, why our ONE X which are very good phones and powerfull can not receive 4.4 ?

Well if they use qualcomm and play it smart they might... Just get out of the slumber

It isn't completely HTC's fault. Nvidia has dropped support for the Tegra3 chipset, which makes it extremely hard for HTC to release and official Android 4.4 update since they don't have the necessary drivers.
However, I don't know how custom rom developers CAN get Android 4.4 running well on the HOX while HTC can't..
But the good part of the new sense is the new apk system . Now zoe, BlinkFeed and home launcher each has it's own apk file available at the play store . So we can expect porting of some sense 6 elements to our device .
And beside I wouldn't get surprised to see in near future HTC sensation to receive a full firmware port of sense 6 and we still stand still with sense 5 on HOX

Yeah right.. if custom Rom developers can make kitkat run smoothly on one x than why can't htc ? They have a bigger development team..

KitKat ROM's available for our phone doesn't have Sense framework. Only AOSP or similar. So that's your answer. If Devs can build sense onto that then fair enough but Sense is closed source I believe so what can we do?!
Its close source that's why developers cant make kitkat Rom for oneX..
I am damn sure if it was open source, xda's great developers would have made sense based kitkat rom for hox
Ok . HTC CAN force nvidia to provide updates to tegra3 chips as Google had managed to get kitkat's kernel from nvidia for it's own variant if tegra3 chip on nexus 7 tablet

no HTC etc can't force them...they can ask if they could provide updates...but nvidia doesn't want that..the tegra 3 in nexus 7 is different to that in hox and is running also a bit better...for example games are running better etc...so hm

I know, but they've proven that KitKat AOSP runs smoothly on our One X. I think if KitKat AOSP can run on our phone, Sense 6 can too..?
But well, it won't happen... At least not as an official update.

It's due to the lack of drivers for our processor. While the other variants of HTC One X that uses a Qualcomm processor can have the new versions of Android and Sense. I believe they are already evaluating the 4.3 ROM for the Evita.
