maybe you were on stock rom?
try using ext4formatter.zip on the clockworkmod topic, to format your system to ext4, because stock uses rfs..
i dont find that file can you give me a link THX

My guess ur on GB 2.3.3 before.
Trying flash GB 2.3.4 before and flash again to any custom rom, and partition ext2/3/4 if u need it. ( use Gparted on linux or mini partition tools on windows )

Yeah it happens! here's how to solve it.
There may be one of the folowing reasons for bootloop :-
1. You didn't wipe the cache/dalvik or as performed full data factory reset before flashing rom.
2. You haven't flashed appropriate boot image ( kernel) . For getting app. image extract the rom in pc and you should get the boot.img.
3. If above steps don't work then try performing factory data reset again after flashing rom.
Hit thanks if i helped.
Check link to the thread from my profile..
i've flashed chobitreloadedv2 through merruk kernel pre-final 2.0
then stuck at boot loop
reflashed dxkl2(STOCK ROM) then Wipe data and cache, Boot into recovery mode. Enter CWM. Wipe data and cache. Install ROM. Wipe data and cache again. Reboot.
still stuck at boot loop
decided to reflashed merruk again
and saw data WAS'T FORMATTED and error mounting /data
any idea?
try this rom without merruc kernel, than it works, for me merruc kernel only makes problems too, just wait for real final release.
flash new stock and than flash chobits like the tut in the thread but without merruc, then it worx good
great man, i will wait for the final version of merruk, i've fixed it through reflashing through dxle1 i don't know why it work, just pure gamble/luck without faith

Hi all, I'm pretty familiar with flashing custom ROMs as I previously had a Samsung Galaxy S Captivate.
I recently got a Telus T989D, and I'm having some frustrating problems trying to flash a custom ROM. I have ClockWorkMod Recovery installed, and have been trying to flash various Cyanogen CM9 ROMs onto the phone. They all install properly, but once it gets to the Cyanogen splash screen (with the Android man turning angry for CM9), it gets stuck here.
I thought perhaps I needed to flash my radio, since all these custom ROMs were for the T-Mobile T989 "hercules" model. So I flashed the SGH-T989_UVLE1_radio.zip hoping that would work. Same problem.
Kind of at a road block here - any suggestions would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

Oh, and to clarify in case anyone asks - I have been doing data/cache/Dalvik wipes in recovery before installing the ROM.

If you are running CWM 5.0.2.7 non touch recovery, you have to use TDJs Superwipe script first to wipe data partition and system partition. Then you flash the ICS radio (if you haven't done so already) then the CM9 ROM, then ICS Gapps.
After this you need to flash TDJs Cache Wipe script. This will properly wipe cache, dalvik, and fix permissions. CWM 5.0.2.7 doesn't wipe and align the cache properly and gives problems. I never had any issues with CWM when running those scripts and it boots up everytime.
Alternatively, you may want to install TWRP 2.2.2 instead of CWM. It's a touch based recovery, but very simple to use and much better than CWM in my opinion. You also don't need to run the scripts since the data and system are wiped properly and cache and dalvik are also cleared properly as well.
If you go to the development section, under the TWRP thread, and search for flashable zip, there is a 2.2.2 flashable available that you can use in CWM. Then the next time you boot into recovery you will be in TWRP instead of CWM.

I just installed TWRP and I'm still running into the same issue. The Cyanogen splash screen just runs indefinitely. Looks like that wasn't the problem? Does it matter if you're rooted or not, if you try to flash a ROM from recovery?

Use the Darkside Superwipe to recreate all your partitions correctly. Sometimes when they are not aligned properly (by TWRP) you get weird boot hangs.
Don't restore data! Instead back everything up with something like Titanium and restore user apps only after the ROM has booted and you are satisfied.
+1 for the last post. Should work 100%!

I have a Galaxy S i9000 with darky v11 ROM which is in ICS.I tried to flashed it with JB rom of cm-10-20120906-NIGHTLY-galaxysmtd and it went into some sort of bootloop..(it goes to start and then CWM appears then samsung logo and then CM9 logo appears again and again) I did wipe cache, wipe data and dalvik cache first before flashing the CM10.
the situation lasted for about 15 mins and I realized that something is wrong.
I have no choice now but to take out the battery and enter recovery and then I make a restore, my current restore point is Darky v10.4.2 but the CMW is stucked to restoring boot
what should I do to fix this problem?
any help from you guys will be appreciated thanks.

I had the same issue. And I fixed it by manually getting into CMW by three button combo
Steps done..
1. Flash gb stock
2. Root it
3. Do factory wipe/clear cache/clear dalvik. Install cm 9 and go to CWM byt three button combo.
4. Do factory wipe/clear cache/clear dalvikInstall cm 10.. after selecting installation file I had a boot loop.
5. Did 3 button combo and got to CWM recovery and did actory wipe/clear cache/clear dalvik and selected cm 10 and second time it went fine.
6. Install gapps after finishing cm 10 install and do factory wipe/clear cache/clear dalvik cache
All working good now...
Kool stuff guys..any change log? Screenshots?
Thanks again for this amazing info

flash kernel with odin and reflash the rom
FIX and explanation how to go back and forth between CM9 and CM10 nandroid backups:
Same thing happens to me when I switch from CM9 to CM10 . I start flashing CM10 and about half the installation the phone goes into loop with cwm-samsung logo and so forth . I just pull the battery out and then I enter CWM again, wipe everything again and I flash CM10 again and gapps. The installation will succeed this time and the phone will boot. I think this happens because the partition method is being changed.
If you are on CM10 or an JB rom and want to restore CM9 or ICS nandroid backup, first wipe everything, flash the CM9 or ICS rom , let it boot and then go into recovery and wipe everything and then restore the ICS nandroid backup.
If you are on CM9 or an ICS rom and want to restore CM10 or JB nandroid backup, first wipe everything, flash the CM10 or JB rom , let it boot and then go into recovery and wipe everything and then restore the JB nandroid backup.
YOU NEED TO DO THESE STEPS BECAUSE ICS AND JB HAVE DIFFERENT PARTITION METHODS AND JUST RESTORING NANDROID WILL NOT CHANGE IT.
Close and delete this thread please this is development section.

Couple ways to answer your question
Download a new ROM or a stock ROM and flash that in cwm or flash your back up if you made one.
To flash a new rom
Download new ROM
Boot into cwm
Wipe cache, data and system
Install zip from SD card (install your ROM)
Reboot
To flash a backup
Boot into cwm
wipe cache, data and system
Flash backup
Reboot

I use CM9 for regular use. ICS + Fast. Maybe you should give it a go. If you wanna go for GB go for EQDKP one.
