hey i'm new here
basically atm i've been trying to get cm10 onto my xperia s i'm able to do all the steps except flashing the kernel whihc requires fastboot, ive tried about everything i've read online, using vol+ while plugging the usb in and flashtool. for some reason my phone just never goes into fastboot mode and no blue led occurs, instead it either just boots normally or goes straight into charge! i don't know what else to do, i'm sure theres something i must be missing, any help is much appreciated!!!! thanks

The Drivers won't install, when I run Flashtool-drivers.exe (that was the only one that existed) and select all of the xperia S drivers, the fastboot drivers and Flashmode drivers only Sony Eriksson Comunication something something is installed, the rest sas couled not be installed (but in swedish). You don't happen to have a solution for that. But installing the drivers this way wont help sins I still has to get it into fastboot to unlock the bootloader, to get the recovery upp and runnling... when I run the phone into fastboot from flash tools it dose the exact same thing as when I dose it manually, going into fastboot for ca 5s. then enter the Sony and then the charging screen.
Once agan, using windows 8 64-bit, have acces to a vista 32-bit. I have no experience with virtual macheans so if it was possible to avoid that, that would be good.
Thank in advanced

actually it is powering off your device first unplug it from pc then hold down BACK button not search button then while holding BACK button (first button on leftmost part of your Xplay) plug the usb cable to your phone. That should get you into fastboot and start flashing using flashtool or manual fastboot commands (using cmd).

back button is for flashing an ftf file search button is used for fastboot
when i do the search button and then plug usb cable, lights turn blue for 3secs and switch to green and the charge logo appears after that.

erm, have you got the necessary drivers for fastboot?
fastboot is useless without an unlocked bootloader anyway, because most of the time you will be flashing kernel or system partitions which will give errors
edit: you can still hotboot kernels like binary's hotboot cwm images

After re-reaading this, i realised that ur bootloader is locked. U need a unlock bootloader, fastboot uses the bootloader to flash or something along that line. cant remember. my apoplogies.

Fastboot does not work on sim unlocked phones with locked bootloaders. I have an r800a too. I suggest you contact Alejandrissimo and get your BL unlocked if you want to use fastboot. It's worth it and it's pretty easy.
Is it possible to use a custom rom with a locked bootloader??
Sent from my R800i using xda premium
A Rogers r800a doesn't have fastboot. The recovery you installed runs from the system partition instead of the kernel, and that blue light you saw was the recovery loading.
You can unlock your bootloader and enable fastboot using Omnius. Normally, it would cost money, but they have free credits for easter weekend right now.
Check this post.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24534816&postcount=51
If you can't figure it out, I can help you through teamviewer.
and then afterwards, I can also help you through installing a ROM, since this thread seems a bit confused.
So, I was using .431 generic global world (GGW) build for my xperia arc till today.
Today, I noticed that .587 GGW came out and decided to update.
I already had unlocked bootlader with no root with .431.
First, I backup everything & factory-wiped my phone.
I tried to enter flash mode with no avail for over 10+ tries.
Then I decided to trick SPC update to force my phone into flash mode.
It put the phone to flash mode as I thought.
I successfully flashed .587.
Then I started to root.
I used the guide at this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26805903&postcount=3
After the 2nd step I noticed that I can't enter the flash mode even with SPC trick.
I deleted all previous usb drivers and settings.
I also reinstalled all sony software and drivers from scratch.
I was still unable to enter flash mode.
Then, I noticed I could enter fastmode.
So, I renamed the ftf file to zip and extracted the files.
Then, I used fastboot mode to flash new kernel.
Phone was rooted and working.
I installed CWM and got a full backup.
So, I thought why not try a custom mod after the root.
I decided to try Hybrid MooDeD JB-ICS 100.0.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1526717
I followed all the instructions to the letter and made the install.
The phone asked for reboot and when it rebooted it got stuck at Sony logo.
I checked the thread a little bit more (my fault for not checking all before but in my defence it's 101 pages..) and it seems it's kernel is based for .431 and I was using .587.
So now, I can't enter the flash mode nor fastmode and the phone is stuck at sony logo.
Help please...
can you enter recovery if yes then flash appropriate rom
and also try to remove battery for 30 or more sec and connent phone while holding back button to get in flashmode or search to get in fastboot

OP: How come you can't access flashmode or fastboot mode? Then you are doing something wrong. Besides, problem is that you didn't install proper custom kernel for the ROM.
And previous ROM has nothing to do with it, doesn't matter which ROM you had earlier, new one will install and delete/replace all the files.

if you can boot upto se logo so your semcboot is not broken
so now tell me if you could enter fastboot before you unlocked bl?
and try to unlock it again using test point method (there is also a free one with S1TOOL if you had bl unlock allowed = yes if you could recall) i recommend not to use paid one bcoz you can pay that to sony to recover it and may be after that you could get into fastboot mod
if it didn't helped try to repair semcboot or trim area contact alejandrissimo for that it also follows testpoint method and its free
i think now only way to connect phone to pc is using testpoint!!!!!

If your bootloader is locked then you can try using seus (dont use pc companion it always fails for me too) and dont panic its only soft brick and easily recoverable. By the way there is fix for hard brick too.
And if you are on unlocked bl then you cannot update using seus, flash ftf file via flashtool or use patch for it

Did You selected to install fastboot, flashmode and Xperia Arc drivers in "Flashtool Drivers Setup"? So now if i connect my Xperia Arc S to computer, i don't hear sound what's mean "Error when connecting device" for a now, it's play correct sound, like device spoted normaly without errors, but my phone anyway can't enter to flash mode for reinstalling FIRMWARE, today i also charged battery without phone, by using portable doc station for battary.
additional info: my phone not turning LED like green when charging or BLUE when i try bring phone to flash mode.
What i can do for resolving problem, i mean, all problems started after my restoring backuped programs and earn 0 space on local phone storage. And after cycling rebooting my phone, before i removed battery.
ty for advice.
So I was about to root my Xperia S and started reading a guide, it said that I would need to load some files into the phone using fastboot. After a while I figured out how to fastboot and managed to get the popup on my computer once, however, I didn't install it that time and now when I try to fastboot again I get the blue LED on my phone, my computer makes some noises indicating that something unusual have been conected, nothing happens and the phone shows the Sony logo.
Does anybody know how to fix the problem and get the popup on the computer to re apear.
I run a 64 bit windows 7 home premium.
Thanks.

Thanks.

When I Unlocked The Bootloader and Was Going To Start Root Process.. I had The Same Problem..
If I remember Correctly It Was a Driver Issue..

I don't have anything from flashTool. The guide I used is this: AddictiveTips . com and searched for Root xperia S (it's the one that doesn't say gingerbread.) if that can help in any way.

Ok.. You Are Trying To Root Using Fastboot Mode..
I Assume You Have Already Unlocked The Bootloader.. Which Firmware Version You Are Using.. Is It Sony ICS 6.1.A.0.452..?

So for Unlocking Bootloader You have to use fastboot mode.. ok
and after that, for rooting it should be done using flashtool in fastboot mode..
so here is the thing.. Download The Flashtool first And After extracting the files You'll Find a Folder Named Drivers.. first Install The Fastboot Drivers Even To Unlock The Bootloader..

Got that part working now, now just to fix to problem with the phone going out of fastboot mode way to fast. But I think I have seen a guide for that somewhere else.
I will report back after future succes or failures with the project.
Got bootloader unlocked!
Thanks alot for the help with Flashtools. All the guides I found just asumed that you just knew a lot of things which kinda complicated it for me.
Again, Thanks!

Hi,
I can't connect my phone in flashmode nor in fastboot mode. Whenever i connect it in flashmode/fastboot mode my PC stucks(hangs) and i have to restart it again i have installed all the drivers for all devices but still the problem exists. Any help in this regards???
Also to mention i'm using Windows XP SP3 and flashtool version is 0.9.1.0.
I have also one more issue when i connect my phone to the charger when it is switched off the phone does not charge at all it simply shows me the sony logo and keeps showing it again and again but never charges. In short when my battery is complete i cannot get it back to life due to this problem but thank god that i have installed CWM on my phone.
Thanks for helping i'll also post this in the development section also.
I have no idea to your problem, but I would guess that it have something to do with you using xp, or maybe some damage on your phone.

Yes ! You must have an unlock bootloader to flash (kernel, system, userdata)
via fastboot or via flashtool
Hello I have an Xperia S, with bootloader locked and recently installed a ROOM in order to get the 6.A.1.2.55 with root.
Installed from a ZIP from recovery mode following this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2009672
Now when I try to do step 7 (flash kernel and Baseband) Using Flashtool, Im unable to enter to the mode; when the windows prompts me, I turn off the phone, press and hold Vol up connect the USB but nothing happens, only the Sony Logo and then the icon of charging battery, I also tried to turn off the phone while holding Power button + Vol up (at the same time) and get the 3 vibrations, but the same result when I connect, the logo and the charging animations/icon..( no LED of any color or anything)
Im using the latest Flashtool version (0.9.9.0) with the drivers intalled (even though Windows security constantly pestered me about not being able to identify the source and signture) on Windows 7 64 bits..
Thank you..

hi, i have the same problem my phone goes away from fastboot state very soon! i cant do anything using fastboot.exe.
(Xperia acro s) blue led turned on and after a few seconds sony trade mark shown!
I've been searching tutorials from start to finish and can't find solution to my problem.
I have a Arc S from a friend that's bricked it gets stuck on sony ericcson logo.
Tried PC Companion not detected
Tried Update Service not detected
Tried Flashtool it detects phone as connected but without developer mode
18/005/2012 14:05:49 - INFO - Device connected with USB debugging off
18/005/2012 14:05:49 - INFO - For 2011 devices line, be sure you are not in MTP mode
I hold back key, no green led
I hold menu key, no blue led
Doesn't enter fastboot mode or flashmode.
Anyone knows how can i recover it? I don't know if it's unlocked bootloader or custom firmware or anything.
I think it maybe a kernel problem but didn't find tutorial to flash it without flashtool.
Regards,
Tried that already, when i hold the buttons (either back or menu) no led lights up when i connect usb it just shows the sony ericsson logo...
Regards.
Usb debug needs to be on

From what i've been told it died overnight during an OTA update.
The only too ways the computer detects it is by getting stuck on sony logo and flashtool detecting it as usb debug disabled or by doing the testpoint and computer detecting it as a Zeus Flash Device.
All the other ways, holding buttons etc's always gets me to the stuck logo no leds no nothing.

Yes it's on a full battery.
Regards,
Is there any tool that can flash a device in Zeus Flash mode?
If you can't get the Phone in flashmode as you've already stated then you need a service centre. The only other alternative is to contact Alejandrissimo or Jinx13 who have SETool and will try and help remotely.

hello i have a same phone as u and same problem .. can u tell me do u find solution ??? thanks
So were you just doing a standard OTA update and then you ran out of battery?
If you want, you could try Sony's new EMMA software for returning devices with unlocked bootloaders back to stock.
Did you unbricked you phone? I have the same problem after a wipe data from clocworkmod and i am unable to go in flashmode or recovery. Fashtool detect my device but just like your with debug off...
So did you manage to fix your device? Thx and srru for my bad english. Oh and my phone is locked.
