[Q] Lost multiview after flashing mrRobinson K8 stock rom - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

I flashed mrRobinson root66_TMO_T889UVALK8 rooted stock rom on my new SGH-T889. Worked great and very easy...many thanks to mrRobinson for this great rom. However there is one problem. I had updated to the K8 ota from Tmo. Presumable the mulitwindow update was part of K8. Multiview was working fine after the ota. But after flashing the rooted K8 from mrRobinson, I've lost multiview. Has anybody had a similar experience or know anything about this or how to get multiview back? I tried to ota update from Tmo again, but no go. It saw my K8 as 'the device is up to date".

Sorry for the simple question. Is the multifunction toggle on? Have you pushed and held the back button down on a home screen? Sometimes the simple things are the solution.

Thanks for the reply. Ya, its easy to forget the little things sometimes. But, yes, I have held down the back button from home screen...no response, no multiview. I'd ask this question in mrRobinson thread where he gives detailed instructions on flashing this, but I'm too new so no permission to post there. I'm wondering if the K8 update does not include the mulitiview...maybe the muliview is an additional chunk of software from Samsung/Tmo installed during ota update.

K8 does indeed have multiview. Sorry you are having difficulty. You might try the ULJ1 root 66. Use voodoo rootkeeper, then ota and voodoo SuperSU back. Worked for me, just did it right when the ota became available.

Thanks for that suggestion. As my T889 is brand new and I'm brand new to rooting I'm being very cautious . Before I flash anything more, I want to backup the EFS file. But I just read a thread suggesting that there's not yet any really proven, certain method for backing up the EFS on the T889...bit scary. If you know of any proven reliable way to do this, I'd be grateful to know about it. Thanks, Coug76.

OK, still haven't worked out how to reliably backup EFS, but maybe I'll try a flash. Is there any known reason why the following wouldn't work:
- Flash mrRobinson stock rooted J1, then ota update to K8 from Tmo?
Seems pretty simple, but being a newbie, sometimes there's a small unknown detail that would screw it up. Thanks again for your help.

My experience was mrRobinson lj1 a couple days prior to the ota. My experience is different than your situation. Then again I also have not had problems with multiview.
Don't know what to tell you other than best of luck.

I have flashed Mr Robinson's LV8 at least 10 times using the method posted in his thread. I have not had any issues with multiview

Thanks for the response. Ya, its peculiar. My T889 was brand new with very few apps installed. Stock from Tmo. I updated ota from J1 to K8 with Multiview. But after then flashing mrRobinson K8, Multiview is not working. I'm not suggesting that mrRobinson did anything that would cause the problem. My understanding is that he only adds SuperSU to the images. And I appreciate what he does. I chose his method for my first ever root because it seemed the simplest and the least likely to cause any problems. But something in that very simple process of flashing from stock K8 to his rooted K8 broke Multiview on my T889. Perhaps its related to the fact that I had done the ota update from Tmo to K8 first. I just don't know. But I'm hoping someone else might :fingers-crossed:

I too flashed root66(T889UVALK8) on stock rom after applying the OTA update.
Everything works fine for me.
Can you recheck and confirm that you flashed T889UVALK8 and not T889UVALJ1 instead ?
Just making sure and trying to figure out what went wrong.

Thanks for the reply. No, I checked the About page...definitely shows the T889UVALK8 build. Here's a stupid little question: to access Multiview you only have to hold the Back button, right? No other switches to apply? Thanks.

There is a toggle in the pull down from the notification bar. Fifth from the left that says multi view. This needs to be activated.

[Q] Phone not booting after 4.3 root help please!!!

I recently got the OTA 4.3 update and accepted it, but i felt the need to root it which i but after the rooting process was finished i booted my phone and instantly got a message saying superuser has stopped working. So i kinda panicked and decided to flash the stock MD4 rom and once it finished i tried to reboot the device but didnt get a response from it. I then pulled the battery out and tried to boot into recovery but still nothing not even a vibrate...Im most likely thinking its bricked but just to be sure im asking for your help. Thanks.
You hard-bricked it. When you update to MK3/4.3 via the OTA, you update the bootloader, which adds KNOX which prevents (by bricking) downgrading to anything lower than 4.3 versions. Good luck my friend.

Yea i figured i did lol. You think my bestbuy total device protection will take care of it? Also thanks for the clarification.
I could say go in and play dumb, because they won't be able to get it to boot under normal circumstances. I also could say be honest and see if it's covered. Your judgement call. Glad to have helped.
By chance can you get it into download mode?

If you can return it to Best Buy as defective or DOA and have them replace it on the spot, do it. I doubt they've got the gear to check out the software/firmware status if it doesn't power up. However, if you are forced to go through Samsung directly then you may or may not be SOL. Good luck amigo.

Call Samsung and tell them you tried to root and bricked it. They won't care. they will reflash it for free. They will email you a return label and all.
I know this because I just bricked mine yesterday too....

[Q] HELP, Note 2 ATT can not connect to network.

i have Note 2 ATT, i am having network connection problem. i can't connect to my ATT network connection . i get circle with line in middle.
i took my phone to ATT store and they tried changing the Sim card and even updating my phone to the latest update, but it did not work.
i tried downgrading my phone to stock Rom when i downgrade the phone. it seems to work fine for five minutes or so i even made a call after one call it started showing same circle with line in middle. i tried flashing all different Rom, i even tried re flashing MJ4 modem. nothing seems to work.
i research to find a solution but i didn't find any solution to this problem. right now i am on Sky Note Air 4.3.
please help me i appreciate for any help.
EDIT: i flash back to stock Rom 4.3 with rooted MK6 bootloader. just to see if it makes any different on my networking problem. And still have issue with not networking data.

Try flashing 4.3 rom from scratch (wiping dalvik cache, data/factory reset and cache partition) ? May be this will help fixing problem
If you want you can try Stock Rom - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2589891
Also make sure you have an APN set. @Bajanman has compiled a list of several AT&T APNs in his thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2172110
I had a similar issue and this post helped me.

They are not hacking my friend...
Have you verified that your IMEI and EFS folder are normal ?
And have you verified your APN settings for your carrier ??
You mention flashing several roms on the device...
The items I listed will help you determine if any damage has been done....and also help you get service again...
All are knowledge you must have to prevent bad things from happening...
If your carrier did an official update to 4.3 while the device was rooted and running custom firmware....then you absolutely need to start fresh to clean the device up again...
Are you getting Knox errors or force close issues ??
Basically....in order to help you we need a detailed status of the device...
Software version....kernel version ....and baseband.....
The information is in settings/about phone/....and will tell us how best to proceed....g

Reading your first post, ATT flashed your phone to the latest update??? And changed the SIM? And that didn't work?
Why did you leave the store when your phone didn't work?
They told me they can't do nothing about it and the warranty was voided too.

Interesting. I'm asking questions I guess really dont matter.
But why was warranty voided, or was it expired?
Again more confusion.... Just wondering why they changed sim, flashed update, then told you to hit the street with a broke **** phone.
I can understand not replacing it, warranty whatever.
I took an Atrix2 phone into the shop, no working data. I had called tech support, they had OTA refreshed it, didnt work. Set me up with tier 2 tech support, more resets. Nothing.
Went into store, got another sim. Turns out it was simple. I had turned off the data plan awhile back until I was ready to give it to my daughter.
Got online, picked a plan. Data lite off.
Point is they worked with me to find the problem on a phone that was 2-3 years old.
You probably should follow me how to in this section and flash the stock 4.1.1 and go from there.

The new NC2 firmware might be a reaction to solve this vulnerability. If we saw this little fella, then T-mobile is still interested in keeping our phone updated. Last month Samsung USA talked about their KitKat plans in the USA which includes the GS3. So it could go either way since it depends on the carrier (T-mobile in our case) approving the update. I read the international GS3 KitKat rollout starting between April-May in a leak released days ago, so we'll have to keep our eyes peeled.

Your best bet is to ask in the rom thread. I have yet to flash anything on my P607T other then rooting. It looks like Dev work is very slow for this tablet. So you may not get a 100% working AOSP rom any time soon. Stock rom is really fast and sable once you root and deboat it. That is what I am sticking with for awhile.

Your best way is to just use TB and froze whatever you do not want. If you run into problems just unfroze it. If you uninstall and you run into a bootloop you will need to have the stock Odin firmware ready. here is a link to get the stock odin file.
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/3/?download=29807
I just uninstalled whatever I did not want. If you google What apps are safe to remove on a Note 3 to debloat, it will pretty much be the same as the 10.1. Both the note 3 and the 10.1 are pretty much the same other then screen.

bootloader is unlocked and there is no problems getting root and current Twrp can be installed which says the bootloader is unlock. if the bootloader was locked you wouldn't be able to flash Twrp. from the looks of it no one has a p607. it is all 605 or the wifi only one p600 and 601. stock rom with root and debloated works great. try a 605 rom. hopefully CM starts to pick up more then we are set.

Do P605 ROMs even work on a P607T? I've been wondering that myself. I have a 607T and although I am very impressed with the stock ROM it just is never going to measure up to CM for me.
I've been thinking about giving the P605 CM 11 port a try in a few weeks when it's just a bit more stable, but I have no idea how similar they are or if my device would even boot after flashing it!

Guys... Did you even read that thread in the link?
You should be asking these questions there... That whole thread is dedicated to making calls on the P607T.... And if you read the thread you'll know the author hit a brick wall and a boot loader hack is needed to flash the proper modem files for phone calls.

Any idea about what sort of problems may pop up from doing this? I got a reply in the CM thread that their P605 version of CM should work fine on my P607 but... Surely it can't be that simple? Any idea what differences there are between thecode of the two tablets or is it really that similar?

I'm 95% sure the only difference physically is the radio "front end" hardware is tuned for the T-Mo LTE frequencies so the modem baseband SW reflects that, and software-wise all that's new is a few pre-installed apps like the "My T-Mobile" app and that (loud-and-annoying-as-hell-and-quickly-removed) T-Mobile "jingle" on startup; I've put several P605 ROMs on my 607T and everything's worked OK ('cause the bootloader won't let me overwrite the radios and potentially-dangerous bootloader files anyway).

Awesome info thanks so much!! So if I understand correctly, any differnces that would render my tablet completely inoperable are already protected from flashing? So I don't need to meet with the TARs for the Roms to remove the modem files or anything?
I mean, I don't mind if my radio breaks or something, I can handle flashing back to stock I am just never sure when I start flashing a new Android device what risks there are of bricking it completely (which, with Knox in the picture, could totally screw me).
So with that I will probably be going flash crazy tonight and tomorrow to test our some different 605 Roms starting with Cyanogen. I'll try to post any findings or quarks here or in those threads!

You will have to remove all the "*.mbn" and "*.bin" files from (Samsung-supplied) non-P607T ROMs, though- Odin will abort the flash if it receives a bad status from the bootloader when the bootloader rejects the flash operation. But it should be a straightforward unzip/rm/zip operation to repack, and I'm sure the CM flashes are just "boot" and "system" (and possibly "recovery") partitions anyway.

so is it necessary to remove the above mentioned files. I can't just flash a p605 rom with twrp?

Yes it is necessary, the .mbn files relate to the bootloader and the .bin files is the modem and NON_HLOS, being that they are for a different ROM it could cause major problems and maybe even bricking. @kcrudup even mentioned the bootloader conflicting with Odin if the device models don't match, so it seems you won't get the 605's installed without removing said files.

I have been looking for a guide for flashing twrp onto my sm-p607t but i cant find one. I mainly need the correct twrp img.tar file for odin. I found this one ( openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.3-lt03wifiue.img ) but I don't know if it is the right one. I used towelroot to root it and i used the proper supersu to disable knox so i just need the custom recovery now.

OTA Update.zip - NE2 to NK2 (4.4.2)

Apparently Sprint hasn't completely given up on us yet!
OTA update.zip available for download!
Nothing overly exciting in this release but I'm posting a download for those who would like it.
Details: http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/1...or-ota-update-but-not-until-january-6th-2015/
Download: http://www.rwilco12.com/downloads.p...Samsung Galaxy Note II (SPH-L900)/OTA Updates
Thanks to @BipolarMike for pulling the OTA and uploading it for us.
Enjoy!
Nifty. Thank you. So it's mostly the same, but with a root block? Plus a little better security in our favor as well.
Sent from my SPH-L900 using XDA Free mobile app
Can we just flash?
Im on NE2 4.4.2 PORT /w Verizon OTA DN7....just wondering if it will brick my device?
Got this update ove the air. Unfornately it broke my phone. Now it is stuck when booting. Recovering. I leaned a lesson not to trust any update and I should have done a backup.

Were you rooted with a custom recovery? You should know that you need to be 100% stock to accept updates and as this clearly is made to block root you cannot even be "just rooted."
That's exactly right. My phone was "just rooted". Lesson learned. The bright part is I got another chance to refresh my experience to use odin to unblock it.

Glad you got it working. Always wise to wait and see what others say about the OTA's first. It is safe to assume that security will only get tighter going forward. Wait for developers to pull bootloader and baseband out as a flashable, then also update the ROMs to be able to get on the latest. Most of the time someone will post a pure stock rooted ROM.
How do you use odin to unblock this OTA? What do you load?

I am having the same problem...this is my wife's phone and I rooted it some time ago. This OTA was pushed and now she is in a boot cycle. What do I load through ODIN that will correct it?

I saw this this morning on my phone. When I went to update it asked if I wanted to install this untrusted file. I declined. So there's nothing special about this but a number change?
Edit: Now that I read the details I'm glad I didn't update and lose root.

Um ya. I've rooted a number of phones. I was hitting my alarm and wasn't thinking when I hit update...
Is the best way to fix this brick to just flash new stock ROM from odin? I would def be appriciative if someone cud lay down the play by play for best way forward before I start mucking around.

Yep. Best method would be to flash a stock ROM. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2780984 Direction and downloads are both in that thread. Enjoy and good luck!
The stock keyboard is killing me when choosing words from the suggested list with this update. It always double spaces when selecting a word! That and with swipe not being totally accurate it's a headache. Guess I'll download kii and make it my default.. It's also crazy how this phone never gets updated with new kernels. My mom's S3 went up to 3.4.0 after kitkat and this phone did not. Why?

It's easy to root NK2 or recover from from the issue you're having. See the topic I just posted HOW TO ROOT NK2 / Fix boot loop after NE2 to NK2 update
Hope it helps. Good luck!
