[solved]problem with wifi in all ROMs - Samsung Galaxy W I8150

Hi
i rooted my galaxy w, installed recovery and flashed different roms using this guide (the sticky thread in general sub-forum). the device booted normally but i had some major problems with all roms a flashed on it:
- wifi could find networks but didn't connect.
- usb mass storage was not detected by the pc.
- phone app couldn't find vcf files to import my contacts
i also tried flashing different kernels (jb kernels for jb roms and ics for ics) but it didn't change the results. can someone help me please?

Try pristine flashing it is the best!
And just a quick tip don't try restoring any apps data from different android versions except messages and pictures of cute kittens and stuff(porn)

I can quite conclude you did not do most of the things the ROM developers asked you to.
Unless you Factory Reset + Wipe Cache + Wipe Dalvik + Fix permission. Some things might not work. Or you just cant find all of these because you did not use CWM5/6?
Go Pristine like the upper post said. If you want a good ROM. Do sacrifice a wee bit more effort to make it awesome. I took hard ways to realize this though. Export your contact.vcf to external SD card and restore from there manually through File Manager.

I totally agree with you but just an add/edit
He *can't* install a new rom without a custom recovery. This is something I tried to skip in my first flash but it didn't work lol

Here's a possibility. Could it be that your wireless router reached maximum users? Because certain home based wireless routers can only keep certain amount of wireless device's(IP address) is stored in router. If you flash a new ROM a new IP will be made but your router kept your old one and reached its max at the same time. This quite happened to me once in a mall. Have you tried other wifi's?
One thing about custom ROM is that you might need SamsungKies installed in your computer for your computer to detect USB. Do you have that?

no im pretty sure my router does not have max users. the problem is that the phone's wifi doesn't turn on properly on ics roms, and keeps turning on and off on jb roms.
i don't have Kies, actually it's my sister's phone. but as i know the main reason of using usb mass storage function is that you can mount the storage on any device/os without any app or driver. my pc used to identify it when it had stock gb 2.3.6.

If it does not even on, then its another problem. You sure its i8150 not the other SGH something?
You need Kies to identify stock ROM.

yes im sure that's i8150.
Kies drivers are required for usb debugging not mass storage.

In which I rest my case on the wifi issue. Maybe related to this in the Q&A section http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2074954
As for Kies, its fundamental to identify your device. GB is capable of connecting it as Mass Storage because Mass Storage mount need no device identification in GB. In ICS its another story.
I can't be too sure about my answer but this is what I found out from various Samsung phones when I was working.

i wish u had said that some hours ago. she is gone now but i think esf folder can be the key resolve the problem. did you backed it up and restore it when u installed cm9?

No not really. I didn't mess with the Network configs while modding my phone. Sorry I'm late. I was having my own minor issues and was doing some research.

Did you guys put a support ticket in to Rockstar and a review on the game on the market? I had an issue trying to buy the game so I gave a review on put put a ticket in and they replied back saying they had fixed the issue. Easy peasy.
I was finally able to resolve this. BEWARE, the below entirely clears the SDCARD and all your data! This means your Nandroids will also be gone as well as any roms you have stored on your card! Backup to a pc before doing this..
reboot recovery
clear data /factory reset in cwm
Reboot to bootloader,
fastboot oem lock
fastboot oem unlock
agree on phone
aokp 11 with franco 7.1, installed gta from market, finally worked although I think it should work with any rom.. was previously failing for me after factory reset.. had flashed lots of kernels and whatnot to cause it like many above. I still have the 90 degree problem with accelerometer steering
This is what I did to get mine to work on my Sony Tablet S. I tried to move it to the USB Storage in Manage Applications in the Settings but it said I was out of room. So I deleted some programs and then moved it to the USB storage and it started up. I hope this works for others. I tried all the options all the other people suggested here and other places.

quick question about gio gt-s5660M

Just wondering if someone could clarify about this model over the rest. Am I limited to rom's just made for the M model then? or do the normal roms I see like the cm7 ones in the development section of this model work on the m model?
Check this out. It might of some help to you.

Hi I have the "m" model as well and I haven't had much luck with the majority of roms made for the euro version of our phone. Darkshado had made a ROM called ArpegGioMod ROM that is made for the m series and works quite well. I use his ROM and I'm quite happy with it versus the stock ROM.
I flashed cyanogenmod 7.1 on my phone using Odin and by leaving out the phone package which seemed to work pretty well, but after a day my phone could not connect to the network to make phone calls or use 3g so I flashed back.
Let me know how it works for you. Thanks.

I have the s5660m as well and I've been using cyanogenmod 7.2 rc0 build4 since it came out. Everything works except gps.
I also have the s5660m , but it is unlocked. I am able to install any firmware, once is it a GIO rom. Go to ... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1368587 It has a program to unlock your phone and also some other samsungs. Try it out.

Gio s5560m Stuck data mode deactivated.
Hello all,
I bought a Gio M about a month ago good phone and happy so far. Problem I've had is 3g is OFF ---> power button- Phone Options menu - Network Data mode is deactivated. Push to turn ON and stays deactivated. Go into system, network, and yes data packets is checked on.
Phone is stock no tweaks no extras, did a clear cache and reset phone to OE spent 2 hours with tech support on Virgin canada and Samsung. Virgin blames phone, Samsung Blames virgin 3g network.
My question is could the phone have a bad firmware flash from factory it came with 2.3.4
I am going to go back to Best buy next weekend and see if I can test with another gio. If 3g works on test unit then I'll send this one in for repairs I guess.
Any other suggestions?
Did you try another Virgin SIM? That's one thing I'd look into.
Also if you're in the Montreal area or in the GTA (I'm not sure where else) there are Samsung Service Centres you could take this to.
Show up in person and have them diagnose the problem. You might even be able to wait while they work on it if you have a bit of spare time.
2.3.4 is the proper version number for the stock ROM on the 5660M. No updates so far.
Gio s5560m no 3g
Have not tried another virgin sim. I do have a spare that came with the phone spose I could try it although its sealed up in the packaging still.
Live in northern Alberta and the nearest city with virgin phone sales is 2hrs away hence the wait to get fixed. Surprise surprise Samsung did not phone me back today like they said they would either.
Found one other post on here of a fellow in Norway with no 3g can't enable or disable but no answers on his post to the problem. I'll wait till the weekend and go to the city and see if Bestbuy has an activated sim they can put in and try.
Thanks for the help and I will update when I get it figured out.
i had the same connection problems, try going back to your stock ROM and take note of your APN settings, once you flash back to CM you'll notice the rom made several changes!
changing the APN settings back to stock, fixed any connection issues i had
hope i helped! (i'm using CM7.2 RC1 B1 KANG on my BELL 5660M)
s550m 3g
Problem is I am using the stock rom, the rom that came with the phone is the one giving the problems. Sending the phone back for "repairs" and we will see what comes of it.
I'll keep you all updated.

I'm new here and I tried to read all the information to get a good idea around flashing the S5660M. I also have the bell version.
I'm going to put down the steps, if anybody can give me pointers or correct any mistakes. That'd be great, I want to put CM7.1 or 7.2, whichever one is stable enough for all functionality to work. Speed is not an issue as I am giving this phone to my grandpa who needs a chinese language display system which Samsung didn't include in the original ROM.
1. Root phone
2. Install ClockworkMod Recovery
3. Reboot into recovery mode, make backup using Nandroid? I heard there's other tools that can be used. I'd like to backup the original ROM.
4. Download the desired CM from recovery mode onto SD card
5. Delete cache and wipe data
6. Choose the new ROM to be flashed and wait
I think that's the general idea, is there any key steps I am missing?
Sorry again for asking but I want to make sure I got the correct steps for S5660M.

Some people mentioned titanium backup. Which one is better? nandroid or titanium backup to save up the original ROM?
Also, is Universal_GB_ROOT_v2.zip the best/safe way to root a S5660M?

[Q] HUGE problem after Kies/JB 4.1 Update!

I will try to make this short and sweet...
"backed up" phone prior to letting Kies update my phone.
apparently everything but my photos/videos was backed up. (stupid me for not double checking that AND the version it was updating to)
updated phone. phone is pretty much useless now. (EVERY SINGLE APP freezes and crashes eventually)
wont connect VIA USB... knows it is connected and so does the computer. computer now refuses to install (it tries) anything involving MTP. all other drivers are installed. Kies can see the device.. tell me how many photos... but by the time I try to transfer anything Kies or the USB app on the phone freezes and crashes.
ive tried everything under the sun that is basic. uninstall drivers.. uninstall kies... reinstall things.. reboot. safe mode... USB debugging.. etc. NOTHING will get my computer to pull the files or the phone to stop crashing the programs.
I NEED to get these photographs from the phone.. there are at least 2k of them.
what are some options I have or things I could try?
and DO NOT say factory reset.. thats not an option until I get desperate.. do that and try some recovery software for photos.
thanks for any help. I have about a week or so to figure this out... so I can return this stupid galaxy express I had to buy just to have a functional phone.
Have you tried using a micro SD card and transfer your photos internally via a file manager app.

Why dont u just make a nandroid backup and wipe. Then flash the latest stock rom through odin. If that fixes the issue of freezing apps and your mtp problem you can restore the backup and should be straight.

Edit: also are you familiar with adb? You could boot to recovery and pull the photos with adb from there. And how much space is free on internal storage? The issues your experiencing sounds typical of full internal storage

you have to break that down a bit... only time I have to work on this is coming off of 12 hour shifts and im not too functional lol
there is space on internal I think about a gig or so left. the phone did NOT have issues prior to updating to 4.1. ALL problems started after 4.1.

Well to me it sounds like some issue was caused in the upgrade. Are you currently using a custom recovery? I ask because I have a feeling a factory reset will be your fix and with a custom recovery you could backup then wipe so you can troubleshoot w/o losing everything
And in the future once u fix this I recommend Dropbox which will automatically backup all those pictures so u dont have to worry about losing them again. Regardless of what you want to do to fix it we should be able to pull the pics even with mtp being borked

You could try rooting your phone and flashing a recovery. After that, go into the recovery and fix permissions. This won't delete anything and it's worth a shot.

Guys! Is there any chance my problem (http://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone2/help/asus-zenfone-2-recognized-pc-t3294980) is related with this issue?
Reflashing stock recovery could help? I´m afraid to do it and not be able to recover any thing else or get stuck on boot without usb connection.
Another question: This might be related to kernel? i´m using BitOkObssesion
I am not sure what went wrong on your side. But i flashed the kernel on a phone of a friend and he has no issues at all.
Did you try to download again ? Maybe a bad download..

Every ROM developer or Kernel developer spent a lot of his time on making better experience for user
i personally have my own ROM and i did try Echoe ROM & AEL Kernel because its from Awesome Developer and everyone loves him and he's kind to everyone
many users used his ROMs and Kernels and never experience hardware or software problems because he checks every single detail of his work
all problems that you mentioned cause by Asus and many users sent their devices to service center, so please dont blame anyone about
something they did do and research next time before post something similar
im still using AEL Kernel without any problems
BTW
TWRP backup is broken for our device, Reboot again to recovery and dont select Data or Cache in Restore options
and check this post
Wow..thanks..will try it...thanks..didnt know..cos before this used to select all data and cache..no problem..

Porting LineageOS 14 to the d710

Disclaimer: I am not a ROM developer. I am a developer and Linux user, but I know next to nothing about creating Android ROMs. Whole other world to me.
I'm wondering if all three of us Epic 4G Touch users left might be able to get a working port of LineageOS 14 on our aging handsets.
The good news:
I just loaded the Official LineageOS 14 for i9100 20170419 nightly on my d710, and IT WORKS
...almost.
The bad news:
The ROM boots up, everything works and looks normal except for:
Wi-Fi - Settings app spins with message "Turning Wi-Fi on..."
Menu Button
Home Button
Now, I'm wondering if there is a way to fix these problems. I prefer on-screen navigation anyway, so that's probably an easy "fix." But Wi-Fi will probably be trickier. I assume it's kernel related, but I can't find any Nougat kernels for this device, so that will likely be the most difficult part.
Thoughts? Anyone else out there have any input or want to give this a crack?

How did you get past the 07 error then? Ive tried clearing everything from system to dalvik cache and nothing gets me to install the rom to look into the wifi issue properly

I don't know what you're talking about. I don't get an error.
The ROM flashes without modification. Make sure you have an up-to-date TWRP with the i9100 crossflash patch: https://github.com/Lanchon/TWRP-Patcher-SGS2
Ive tried flashing twrp onto my device using the guide that tells you how, even after editing the installer script to have the SPH-D710 line in it it aborts the installation

I followed lots of advice from this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/epic-4g-touch/help/help-getting-stock-rooted-4-1-2-to-cm11-t3384832
I believe the method that finally worked for me was: Odin to EL29 rooted, Philz recovery, TWRP, CM11.
That's where I was before I tried the i9100 LOS 14.1 ROM.
I can get a twrp with a different rom then cm11 but that twrp doesnt have the img installation feature on it

If you have root in CM11, you can use Flashify to flash the new TWRP .img file.
My E4GT still works, more than glad to throw my hand in the pot to make something happen. Haven't used the S2 in years so it's not updated, currently running an old build of CWM and a CM11 nightly with iso-rec support. If you could bring me up to speed on what I need to get from where I am to a newer recovery(TWRP preferred) and your ROM I'll start playing around with it. Last time I searched all of this to update left me more confused than anything with it being mixed up with the i9100 and i777 information as well.

You should be able to flash the latest TWRP (for i9100) using Flashify. Beware that I have not been able to get TWRP to mount my external SD card, so any files you want to flash in TWRP need to be stored on internal memory. Everything else works perfectly. Mounting USB storage in TWRP works well, and that's how I've been able to get new files on the phone when I needed to.
After installing TWRP, make sure you run Lanchon's crossflash patch on it: https://github.com/Lanchon/TWRP-Patcher-SGS2
I used
Code:
lanchon-twrp-patcher-20160417-crossflash-d710.zip
to enable flashing d710 and i9100 ROMs.

Yeah, I took another look last night, the information available now clarifies things that seemed a mess back when I first looked into this.
Have you made any progress with your ROM? If the hardware keys are still not working it's because key mapping is different on i9100, also rotation is backwards or at least it was years back when I flashed a i9100 ROM on my D710. You can remap the hardware keys so that they function correctly. Other than that there should be no differences.

I haven't done anything yet except try to load the unmodified i9100 ROM and report what works/doesn't. Really the only thing I need fixed is the Wifi, and I have no clue how to do that.

I'll reach out to some developer associates and see what I can find out about the WiFi.

I'm not a developer, but I have a D710 lying around and I am willing to do testing if you need me
I also have an Epic 4g touch that im willing to test stuff
So... I guess nothing ever happened with this ROM? I have a SCH - R760 from US Cellular that AFAIK is compatible with d710 roms. I would still be interested in running Nougat on my device - even though my eMMC seems to have issues at the moment.

Never had any real interest, and I don't know enough to do it myself.

Understood. So you said that the buttons didn't work and the wifi wasn't turning on. Were there any other major bugs that you noticed? I might try and make it work for our device, because why not!
Thanks for still responding after so many months!

Those were the only two things I noticed. Bluetooth worked. I didn't see any apps crash (but I couldn't load new ones because no wifi). I didn't try cell service because I don't even have Sprint anymore, but I suspect that probably didn't work for the same reason wifi was killed.
Thanks for looking into this! I'm still interested if we can find a way to make it work. I just don't know much about creating ROMs. I'm not an Android dev.
