First time S3 rooter... want to install Jellybean on i747 - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Am coming from GNex and helping my bro set up his S3 which is completely stock, but just now rooted successfully. Can someone point me to step by step to get a stable Jellybean build on it (nothing fancy)... we have Clockwork Mod installed.

Said phone might already have Jelly Bean on it, considering stock Jelly Bean images have been available for a while now.
If not, try the instructions from here to get a stock-but-rooted Jelly Bean image on there, to start with.

Or if you want any other ROMs that are not stock (i.e. debloated) then try here. This page has all the info you need.

[Q] Will preview version of JB get OTA update?

I would assume that the answer would be yes considering all the developers that are on this version, but I'm not 100% sure anymore. I decided to search through some threads & some of the posts are quite contradictory. I flashed to takju in order to upgrade to the preview version of Jelly Bean. If it's not getting the OTA, I plan to flash back to yakju.
Yes. But if you want a more instant JellyBean on your phone, check out this ROM on your part of the forum.

You don't need to back up, because restoring that won't make you "stock". You'll always have stock images to flash back to stock Android whenever you need to via your PC.

[Q] now this MAY sound stupid but...

so im on stock ICS. not rooted.
and i want android jelly bean.
now all i've seen is that you have to get CM10 to do it. but i don't like to use "non stock roms", so is there anyway I can still get jelly bean without using CM?
and if not CM, then i really dont wanna use other ROMs either.
so in other words, is there a way to get jelly bean on sprint s3 using the "official" look of the jelly bean OS (and not other ROMs' looks)?
thanks! (and yes ill root and do all that too)
Closest thing to stock jelly bean.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/sho...T999UVDLI3 Leak Port) - 09/08/2012 (NEW BASE)
Right in the development section.... But read about the rom before flashing it. Make sure it's something you want on your phone.

Not yet, but there's someone saying they have some leaked update.zips. These will be leaked builds so when it goes official you'll either need to go custom or Odin back to stock. Either way it's the equivalent of a factory reset. It will also probably have annoying bugs. If you want a strong, stable build you'll just have to be patient. If this guy posts the update zips, feel free to give a go, but know you might as well be custom because stock recovery will probably reject the official OTA when it drops.

Does he not want clockwork recovery or cyanogenmod? Now I'm not sure which... Nevermind, reread.
so i guess CM10 is the safest bet.
now another question:
since jelly bean (stock) is going to be coming out from sprint update sometime in october, what will I have to do? do a factory install, install stock ICS? and then manually update to jelly bean?

Just to help assuage your fears, the creator of Cyanogen is like head developer for Samsung or something now. It's as safe as a stock build. I personally don't love CM roms and people seem to love aokp just as much. It's all personal preference. Just follow the rules of switching between because it can be a rocky ride. When in doubt Odin back to stop and rework from there. There is a lot of fun in it. Stock is stock, it's also made by developers who may or may not be as qualified or passionate as anyone on here. All up to you though.
I would just be patient and wait a month or 2 for the real official jb update Thayer sprint will send to your phone

2)Don't know the issue your referring to.
3)download another keyboard if you need to because this only comes with one keyboard so you can't change the input method until you download another one
thanks a lot man!

TWRP recovery for Jelly Bean

Hello there,do you happen to know if the current version of TWRP recovery supports Jelly Bean.
I was wondering that question since it is October and maybe by the end of the month we all gonna have the new
Android 4.1 Jelly Bean on our HOXs.So it is a good time to ask any of you if you know taht there is support from TWRP on Jelly Bean
or i will have to settle for the latest ClockworkMod Recovery provided that ClockworkMod supports Jelly Bean.
Thank you in advance,
The recovery has nothing to do with the ROM, I'm not sure what you mean by "support".
You won't be able to install any OTA with a custom ROM or non stock recovery.

TWRP recovery is completely separate from roms. In a short answer though yes you shall still be able to use it with Jelly Bean.

URGENT! from 4.1.1 to 4.2.2 or 4.3

Ok so I'm curious of why I'm not able to update from 4.1.1 to 4.2.2 or 4.3. Any time I try to update, it tells me that I'm already up to date. Now I'm wanting the new CyanogenMod, I'm craving it...
When installing gapps is it a MUST to use gapps for 4.1.1 or can I use the ones from 4.2.2? I use Clock Work Recovery Premium but it's not installing google apps with it. It kind of erks me in a way...
So I'm at a complete loss... is it possible to get 4.2 or am I stuck with 4.1?
I'm running a SGH-I747.
Please hit me up asap!

Ok...you are not ready to do what you are asking. Are you even rooted? If you have no idea then you need to stop because you are not even close to being ready to install custom roms. You need to do some extensive reading. Everything about installing custom roms has been covered beyond extensively on this forum and many others. XDA is not designed to hand you the answers on some quick and easy to use instructions and for good reason. You need to know what you are doing and to do that you need to search and read...a lot. If you have a specific problem that has not been addressed in these forums then we will try to help you but don't expect a step by step walkthrough to your post here.

Oh boy.... where can I start... Welcome!! Now, The reason why you can't update to 4.1.1 to 4.3 is because currently, 4.1.1 is the latest update on your phone. But you should be able to update to 4.1.2... I am guessing you are using an AT&T Samsung Galaxy S3.
In order to get 4.2.2 (or later 4.3), your phone has to be rooted and you need to have a custom recovery (ClockworkMod or TWRP). Rooting basically enables root directories so that you can modify your phone.
Here is a place to get you started.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426
Keep in mind that rooting your phone WILL VOID your phone's warranty.
And take a look at this to understand more about rooting or custom recovery:

OK...Now for me not to sound totally like an @$$. Welcome!!! These are definitely some of the best places to start but please do not let it be the only ones you look at. Before you plunge in to root and install custom roms please read peoples experiences and issues they have had throughout the various threads. This will aid you in resolving any problems you may have during the processes you are trying and helps you get a better understanding of your phone. Please make sure that prior to trying to root, you look up information about losing and restoring of your IMEI and tripping your flash counter. As stated above, rooting will VOID your warranty so this is done at your own risk. If you follow instructions closely you should not have any major issues.
I'm sorry gentlemen, this was typed so quick I may have sounded ignorant to the "rooting world".
I know how to successfully root and install custom roms, but my question was so distorted and didn't make sense because I had just got off a 17 hour shift.
I am currently running Cyanogenmod 10 on my SGH-I747, with 4.1.1 gapps. I was having an issue installing Cyanogenmod 10.1 because my phone was 4.1.1.(why it wouldn't work) I was trying to question the fact of, is it possible to upgrade to a 4.2.2 rom and keep the latest version of Cyanogenmod?
Just hearing rumors about a 4.2.2 ROM excites me, but it being a ROM in its self, how can I run Cyanogenmod with it?
I love the feel of mod but if 4.2.2 is better, flexible and faster... I would love to have it.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I'm still a little confused as to what you are asking. There are several versions of Cyanogenmod. CM 10.0 is a 4.1.2 ROM. CM 10.1.2 is a 4.2.2 ROM.

I don't really understand what you are trying to say. You can't install CyanogenMod 10.1 at all? What does the error say exactly? Please be a bit more clear so I can help you out
Are you installing the wrong gapps version? If you are flashing Cm10.1 (4.2.2), you need to flash gapps 4.2.2, not gapps 4.1.1.
