Hi - I know this isn't entirely phone related but I just needed some help. My gut feeling says my SD card is shagged though.
I was moving a file from my extSdCard (within CyanogenMod 10.1) to my SD Card. I looked back at my phone and it looked like it had completed. When I went to check the SD card storage within the root explorer, it showed nothing. So I took it out and put it into my computer. My computer will not recognise it either... It's a SanDisk Class 10 32GB card formatted as FAT32.
It sounds like it's just corrupt and that's it BUT I was wondering if anyone had a similar problem where they found a miraculous fix?
Thanks !

Rooted, Stock, SanDisk 32GB Class 4...
This morning I got a notification that it was safe to remove my SD Card. I thought that was random and funny so I went into Solid Explorer to see and it said that my SD Card was empty. I checked in the Storage option in the Settings menu, and it didn't pick up the card. It only said "Mount SD Card, Insert SD Card." I removed and inserted the card a few times with no luck. After restarting, the phone told me the SD Card was Blank. I clicked on that notification and it prompted me to format the card. I tried to format it but it didn't work. I just kept telling me the card was blank and I'd need to reformat it. Finally, after plugging the phone into my computer, it's not even recognized as a card on the phone. Can someone help me please? Is this a hardware issue? Did the card reader on my S3 just crap out or is it something I can fix with some software fix?
Thanks in advance.

I could be the card that has failed. Do you have a card reader that you can use to mount the card on a PC (without the phone)? Do you have another card to try in the phone. It is one or the other that has failed but you will have to try out the combinations to see which has failed. I have seen cheap cards fail and become unrecognizable. I think that is more likely than the phone card slot failing.

Thanks for the reply. I'm starting to suspect/hope it's something wrong with the card itself as opposed to the slot. Unfortunately I don't have my old card or another reader around to test (I'm stuck at work). I may try to skip out to buy a new card and see if that does the trick.
Has this happened to anyone?
I am on GB. THe SD basically causes the phone to freeze when i try to access any of the settings. What are my options here? to reformat the card? i looked at the card on a laptop and the contents seemed ok. THe SD card is a sandisk Class 10 32GB card. I haven't installed any new apps for the past couple of weeks so i don't think this is a problem

I`d copy everything off the card to my hard drive , then reinsert the card into the phone and reformat it via the phone software , then let the phone set itself back up with the empty card and see if it works . But...that working around the issue (if it works) , the root cause I`d guess as a corrupted setting on the SD card . For the record , mine sometimes throws a stroppy (every couple of months) and says the card isnt there , the tried and tested turn off/on worked for me .
b/Have you copied any program across to the SD card ? I`d try copying them back to the phone
So far i have been using the old sd card that came with my Arc S. Its been working fine but ive ran out of memory. So i bought a new 32gb MicroSD HC card. Its class 4. This one to be specific -
SanDisk 32GB Micro SD HC Memory Card
SDSDQM-032G-B35
I inserted my new sd (empty) into the phone. When the phone started, there was a Sh*t ton of lag. I basically couldnt do anything. You could say the sd card froze my phone. Is this normal ? keep in mind, the sd card was empty. I got scared and immediately removed the SD card. I put in my old sd card, it still lagged but i waited for about 30 minutes and it was just fine. Its been fine ever since. I have copied all the contents of my old sd card onto my pc and then onto my New SD card. I'm confused on whether to put it in or not. Will it harm my device? As far as i know, Arc S supports 32GB. My phone isnt rooted or anything. Just official Sony ICS if that helps in any way.
Thanks for the help guys.

Your phone stucked/froze after insertion of new empty microsd since your phone is basically looking for the previously installed applications and games when it started.
By copying all the contents of your old microsd to your new microsd before inserting this to your phone will prevent the freezing upon startup, although minor lagging will be encountered a few hours or so while some syncing is done.. I did it your way when I upgraded from 16GB Class 4 to 32GB Class 6 (although not all the files, i left out the videos/mp3s/dcim since i can copied them back later) and encountered no problem. So go on, insert your 32GB microsd already:laugh:
So i have a sandisk 32gb micro sd card im using in my galaxy s3. It has been working fine until this morning when my phone started saying sd card had been removed please enter a new one, or something like that. The sd card cannot be seen in TWRP or in any file manager. In recovery i tried to wipe the external card and it just says it cant mount the external card.
I would have thought this was a problem with my phone, but I also cannot see the card when i put it in my computer. Other sd cards work fine on my computer (i dont have another micro sd to test with) but my camera's sd card worked fine. Anyone have a solution? I would be willing to format my sd card, but i cant even access it anywhere.

I hate to say it, but it would seem that your SD card went tango uniform. If another card is being seen in the S III then it is down to that.

In Win7, plug your SDcard into the card reader.
Type diskmgmt.msc into search or run.
Do you see your messed up SDcard in there?
If yes, you can format it, name it etc.
If that fails, find an app online called Gparted. (needs to burn to a CD)
This app works at boot and has fixed my most stubborn drive issues.
I have a Desire HD which is running Randomblame's JellyTime 4.2 R6.1 and I have been getting the "damaged SD card" message. The original card eventually failed to format either on phone or via computer and I was unable to access anything on the card.
I bought a new card ( A SanDisk Ultra 16Gb Class 10) and all was fine for a few days and then I started to get the same message again. I took the card out and was able to access the contents via the computer,I re formatted it then re-loaded the files onto the card and put it back into the phone. This morning when I woke up I couldn't access the SD card and again I have the same "damaged SD card" message. I have taken the card out of the phone. I can see the files via computer but I am a bit loathed to re-insert the card into the phone in case it damages it.
I always switch off the phone, eject on the computer etc when installing/uninstalling the SD card.
Has anyone else had this problem, if so can someone help sort it out.
Sorry if this problem has come up before. I did try the search but found nothing akin to my problem and I can't use Randomeblame's JellyTime thread as I haven't enough posts.
Any help/pointers would be much appreciated
Many thanks
Martin
