[Q] Locked phone Jelly MUIU - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I wasn't sure where to post this query, so posting here an on the actual rom page, sorry if it's annoying.
I installed Jelly MUIU http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1998428 on my HTC Desire HD.
First problem:
When I tried to make my first call a message flashed up very quickly saying something about improper use of the phone. Since then I can dial but then the screen goes black and when I press power, I can briefly see the call interface but then it goes black again. I can only stop the call by turning the phone off.
Second problem:
While searching for how to sort this I also pressed LOCK in the menu, expecting to get a further menu with options to set this up. Now it appears the phone is locked. I can see the wallpaper and on the top bar are three vertical bars which I assume are the LOCK symbol. When I press HOME the torch comes on! That's all!
So at the moment I have a phone I can't get into, or use to phone. Please help someone!

YES
Well yes, re-flashing had recurred to me, except that when I wrote the above I couldn't get into the phone to do that. Although I guess there's a button press combo for getting into recovery, now I come to think of it.
Fiddling around I have found a soft reset foxed the locked screen so now I'm back in I think I'll do that re-flash .... probably with a different rom as that one seemed to slow the phone down as well as being incomprehensible.

Yeah MIUI is beautiful but its quite resource heavy. I'd suggest ViperDHD or CodefireX, both great ROMs

Also: you could have use adb
ADB Reboot Recovery puts you straight into recovery, little pro tip for you there

Thanks, appreciate the suggestions for alternative ROMs, will have a look
UPDATE: Installed CodefireX and delighted with it - a big improvement on the last one. Once again thanks for the recommendation.

Hey, i am going to maintain here a list of all thing which can be pressed and trigger some events in special occasions. I only know about two yet, thats where the community drops in. Post your find here and i will put it in this list.
Reboot
Hold Vol-Down, Trackpad and press Power
Reboots the system! Instant!
Prerequesite: Kernel must be loaded, so does not work the first few seconds after power on.
Warning:This does not unmount your sd-card or unlock any system files. Its basicly the same as removing the battery and should only be used in case your system crashed and does not react anymore. Think of it as a reset button on your PC, which you wouldnt press as long as windows runs fine.
Credits: myself
Bootloader/HBoot
Hold Vol-Down and press Power
Starts the phone and brings you to HBoot Menu
Prerequesite: Phone must be off for this to work
Notes: Navigate through HBoot/Fastboot with vol-up, vol-down and power as select button
Credits: myself
Bootloader during reboot
Hold Vol-Down and wait
Brings you to HBoot Menu
Prerequesite: Phone must be rebooting.
Notes: Make sure to press Vol-Down early enough. Must be pressed in before the boot-splash-image. Navigation, see above.
Credits: myself
Android safe mode
While phone boots, press and hold menu
starts up android in safe mode.only system apps are started, 3rd party apps are ignored
Prerequesite: None
Notes: You have too hold menu for a long time, from power on nearly until sim code dialogue
Depending on the rom you use, there is a small chance, it won't work, or the rom won't start.

Thisll be a good guide for people who have no idea, but these have been pretty basic essentials for rooted devices simce the G1.
None the less, im sure people will find this useful

To be honest, I hope to find some more combinations than these three. I wouldn't have started this thread if I had no hope, there is more to find.is Up to you people to add here.
If there is nothing to add anymore, this thread will die pretty fast.

Nice, the reboot trick is quite useful.
Thanks,
I know this one but I think it is common for Android. When your phone is off. Push menu button then power. Don't release menu until you see a message on bottom left of the screen. This mode is secure I.e. it loads only software of the ROM without 3rd applications.

Yeah I posted about this 3 months ago
By the way that reboot is not graceful. i.e. your sdcard is not properly dismounted and open files are not closed. It is the same as a battery pull, so I would only use if your phone it totally locked up ...

I would agree and would also suggest that the OP put a warning about this in the 1st post. This reboot method should really only be used as a last resort...
One more (probably well known) function is long-pressing the Menu key to bring up the soft keyboard. It used to work even on the homescreen, but it no longer does ever since Froyo. It will works elsewhere though. Really doesn't serve any purpose, though...
warning added. i am a bit surprised, there are not more combinations. seams we got them all now. wouldnt have started this topic, if i knew its only such few things.

It works on a stock Froyo running sense, but only when you are in an application and not on the home screen.
The reboot could come in handy!
P.s. Mad-murdock noticed you are in Bielefeld area. Don't really hear of it too much.
Got family in and around bielefeld and will be there this christmas.

Volume wakes up phone?

Just noticed something recently as I never noticed it before, in fact I'm quite sure it didn't do it before (but I could be wrong).
On my stock phone the volume keys wake up the screen. Not too sure if I inadvertently changed some setting or what, but is this normal?

Well not much easier as pushing a button is still pushing a button. But I just wanted to know if that's standard on stock 'cause I could've sworn that the only way to wake up the screen was to push the power button.
I use a lock screen and yea pushing the volume wakes the phone, it bugs me.
Not on mine. But mines not stock

I'm running Calk's 2.8.1 and it does not wake the phone. I did have the issue after running a dialer code. I can't remember the number. I will have to look for it. But I'm about to drizzle Tiff's honey back on top. So I will report back.

Nope, it wakes up my home screen. The only thing I can think of is that I have a no-lock screen app running in the background. I've rebooted several times to make sure it wasn't a fluke. The only thing I haven't done is disable or uninstall the no-lock app to see if that's what's causing it. I mean I'm not complaining I actually like that function.

Well that has to be what it is. Make a backup, uninstall, and test. Please report back so we can consider this thread as "solved" and then if that's how you like it add it back.

Yup it's the no-lock screen app alright. I didn't even have to uninstall it, just enable screen locking. Tested it & volume keys didn't wake up the screen, went back in & disabled screen locking & the volume keys wake up the screen.
This is what I'm using for those interested:
No-Lock

Screen shuts off & flickers when sliding phone open / closed ?

I take pretty good care of my phone [haven't dropped it, no water damage, etc]
But just recently, whenever i slide my phone open, the screen will turn off, and wont turn back on / flickers.
And sometimes when I'm using the on-screen keyboard it will act normal when typing but none of the text actually transfers into the textbox.... w/ swype it just inserts a space.... Is there any fix to this or is my phone just dying ..?

Moon rom help!

Hi all, I need help with this rom that I just flashed. Basically these are the problems I faced;
1. Battery percentage does not show after restart. I can only show it in display>show battery percentage. After restart, gone.
2. Activating Multi window really slows down my device. Like really TURTLE slow. yes, I am on tablet mode.
3. No option shown after power button is pressed. What do I get? "shutting down..."
4. Theres no rom control in settings! I know it sounds ridiculous if anyone of you have it, but nope it's not there.
5. In tablet mode, no status bar, no notification bar because systemUI is not working and I have no idea why. test.zip is flashed from the developer.
6. There's this translucent box with some phone details on it; it has PDA, phone firmware, RF cal date, SMD, RearCAM, FrontCAM and all other stuff that I have no idea wat it is.
Lastly, I really do wanna believe that this is a great rom to try out, but I'm not convinced with all the issues I faced. Nonetheless, if anyone can help me out, I really appreciate it.
Help anyone?

"Cannot take Screenshot" error

Has anyone encountered this on their G3 yet?
Im getting a Cannot take screenshot error from the power + vol down shortcut and as well as the Power menu from G3 tweaksbox.
Quickmemo capture works fine though.
Disabled Xposed and still having this error
I just started getting this today as well! Holding a button (mapped via TweakBox) also doesn't work, but QuickMemo does for me too!
Any luck fixing it?

Hey hope it helps but I just had a Eureka moment and it fixed it.
Nomone Resolution Changer, put it back to default and it's fine!!
Tried "Restore Upgrade Errors" and it went back to stock unrooted. Still not fixed
Oh just saw your Nomone fix.
That worked. Phew.
Thanks man

Glad it works, it was just a random thought of mine and it worked! So it basically seems that we can't easily change the res without breaking a swype/swiftkey keyboard, and the screenshot function. I find QuickMemo a faff.
So we're both sorted after scares I only found your thread as I googled the problem and found you to be the only person with the same complaint, and you happened to ask it very recently!!!
