U need to be rooted to flash roms. Also i would suggest going s-off aswell so u can flash different hboots to get the most internal memory (depending on what rom u choose)

Also...when I read a post about a ROM I'd like to flash and it has a link to flash a new radio, should I flash it? It won't brick my phone or anything? Are they ok to flash on my wildfire in the u.k.?

You know what? You could have provided all the information about your setup on the first post so people can provide you with the right steps to go through. People here are not mind readers ya know?
So you have an ext partition... What type of ext partition? What is the size of that ext partition? What hboot you are using? Blah blah yada yada..
Ext2, Size= 140mb, stock hboot,
Sent from my HTC Desire using xda premium
You need ext4, at least 1gb.

You should at least read the OP for instructions. You know, there is nothing more valuable than reading.

once you discover the power of the internet you realise you can research anything (not just to do with htc desire or phones....)
try with google, and i bet within a few minutes you'll find out at least what int2sd is, and definitely a guide on how to change hboot, just like magic! :good:

hey everyone i just got htc desire from my dad , am familiar with rooting and stuff so i rooted the device and everything is ready .. actually i just wanted to know 2 things
1st what is the best rom for games and performance ?
2nd does it really worth installing JB/ics to desire ? if so what is the best JB/ics rom atm
btw i searched alot in here and i didnt get the answer for my questions because there are too many different opinions about many different roms , but i'm a gamer and i want a rom with a high benchmark score (not fake) and high performance .
With all the whatever2sd script here that one can use, there is no such thing as real benchmark.
via xda app
Games require hardware compatibility, then Gingerbread rom are recomended. My last gb rom was official MIUI,stable and fast.
Actually i use an Jellybean rom,work like a charm,but i not try any games,sorry.
Installing rom is simply, test yourself, use Titanium to restore apps and games.
Bye.

Stock hboot is perfectly fine( the one u got). Also I would recommend you to use CM10.1 VJ ROM its base is 4.2.1 so smooth im also new here ( like 2 months , got rid of my x8 lol ) . As for the old hardware this ROM is perfect for me big big thanks to Vijendrahs for the awesome ROM

Thanks man been itching to flash some roms but didn't know if I could with my hboot is everything working on that rom??
Sent from my HTC Desire using xda app-developers app
I think everything works except video recording and some video playing apps (BBC iPlayer didn't work for me) that, and a few other niggles, was enough for me to return to gingerbread (mild wild 5.8)

Sent from my HTC Desire using xda app-developers app
You have to work hard to break your phone.
So I'm safe to flash it??
Sent from my HTC Desire using xda app-developers app
Yea. Do a nandroid backup first, then a full wipe, then flash the rom.
Ok cheers. I did a nandroid backup with rom manager before I discovered 4ext recovery should I delete that backup and make a new one with 4ext or would that b alryt? Cheers

If you like sense UI the best rom is RSK team witk sense 3.5, is smooth and without bugs, i had used for 1 year.
Otherwise if you want to install JB rom the best one is Vijendra's rom, now with JB 4.2.1, it is under quick developing and with few bug.
Desire will never dies, good smartphone.
Thanks I best make a new backup then. An do u know where in 4ext recovery is the option to wipe everything except sdcard? Thanks I'd b lost without this forum lol

Is rom customizer a good way to flash a rom? And what about rom manager?
Sent from my HTC One V using xda premium
R: [Q] rom customizer
Hell no dude, rom manager in particular bricked so many phones, never use it
Ow okay, is there an other way to flash a ROM with your phone??
Sent from my HTC One V using xda premium
R: [Q] rom customizer
Well, you can only flash with the recovery. If you are soff you don't need to flash kernel with the computer, otherwise you have to flash kernel every time. Don't use any app to flash roms, they can be dangerous, just use recovery, it's easy and simple
Okay, but i dont know much about recovery mode :$
