[Q&A] All-Star Devs ROMs Support - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

Hey XDA members,
The All-Star team has noticed that there have been several questions being asked repeatedly (which is nothing new in the XDA forums)
and it tends to get... putting it in a nice way... bothersome and unnecessary.
With the amount of ROMs the team has at the moment, it is hard for us to keep track of the numerous amount of questions you may have.
Which is why we have decided to create this post to have any important questions and answers collected in to one thread.
Before you ask any questions on here, please make sure you check everything on this list:
1. Have you checked if the issue has been mentioned before or is currently being resolved
(we kindly ask you to please use the search bar, whether it be in this thread or the ROM threads)
2. Are using the latest version released for the ROM?
3. Carefully read and followed the instructions written in the OP?
4. Made sure your downloads were not corrupt?
5. Are using the latest recovery system? (recommend TWRP):
5. Flashed the ROM with all necessary steps? (i.e. wiping cache/dalvik cache)
6. Attempted flashing alternative kernels/radios?
7. Did not mess around with any critical settings? (i.e. performance settings, DPI, governors/schedulers)
8. Tried properly re-flashing the ROM again?
9. Made sure it is not a hardware issue? (i.e. broken power button, faulty battery)
10. Made sure the internal/external memory does not have any remnant files left used by a previous ROM?
(also, the micro SD card should be properly formatted, recommend to a FAT32 file system if it does not work properly with the ROM)
11. Tried flashing back to stock and installing the ROM again?
12. Try using a USB Jig if phone does not boot up at all and recovery/download mode button combinations do not work?
13. The question does not involve anything about ROM ETAs or ROM requests?
... the check list goes on, but those are the most important questions that are often asked by ROM support when there is an issue.
Additionally, these questions can be applied to any ROM.
If you have checked everything on the list above, please post your question in the following format:
Code:
Issue title: *keep this to a few commonly used words, in that way it can be found through the search bar*
Current ROM:
Previous ROM : *if applicable*
Current kernel:
Recovery system used: *CWM or TWRP*
Detailed description of the issue:
(Please copy and paste this format for your question, thank you)
The team will respond to your question as soon as possible, so just keep an eye out for new posts!
Also, as a courtesy it wouldn't hurt to hit the thanks button for anyone who has been a help. Thank you for your co-operation everyone!
//not sure if this is appropriate, but can this post be stickied? Thanks

This will help a lot. Thank you!

Hey ROM gurus! All-star ROM v6 prev. All-star ROM v 5. , before that Jedi 6.(current Kernel ) 3.0.49 lightningzap. Mon. Dec 12,2012. Love the ROM.. Friends say they are hearing a echo of themselves when they call me. Can I fix that with a new kernel? Or is it a radio issue?

monkeybuttons apparently found a fix, you can find it here.
But before you do that, can you try this:
Go to your phone app/ press the menu hardware key/settings/ scroll down and enable Noise suppression? Once the option is checked off, try calling again and let us know if it works.
If the solutions above don't work, first try flashing an alternative radio. Then try flashing an alternative kernel if there is still an issue.

As a future reference for future posts, can everyone post your questions according to the format mentioned in the OP to look like this?
(example)
Issue title: Phone not working
Current ROM: All-Star ROM
Previous ROM : Old Rom
Current kernel: *Kernel used in All-Star ROM*
Recovery system used: TWRP 2.3.3.0
Detailed description of the issue: Phone does not do... etc
It is much easier to read the question that way, thanks!

Going to the phone app/settings and checking noise suppression worked! Thanks... Keep rocking!

What do you mean by "rotation is wrong"? If you meant that it is not working, perhaps you have it disabled in the settings?

So just got my sg2 back and i upgraded to all-star v6. As this is my first time dealing with new 4.1.2
I have a hard time understanding what the quick settings are used for.(the second row of toggles for WiFi, BT, ext...)
It seems redundant as it has the same options as the power widget buttons at the very top.
Can some one explain how to utilize this better or to remove the toggles.
I like the concept of quick settings as you don't have to navigate the settings menu. But don't like have two of something.
Thanks in advanced

Hm, that's strange. The kernel you are using most likely changed the settings for the accelerometer. Try flashing another kernel for your phone and wipe cache/dalvik as well. If you really insist on flappjaxxx's kernel flash it back again and see if the issue persists.
Now, when you do re-flash the h0tcakez kernel and rotation still does not work, there is not much you can do aside from trying to re-flash everything again including the ROM and kernel and hope that will fix it.
If you took the time to use the seach bar and look through the official kernel thread you would find that there are several people who had the same issue and were able to get it fixed in some way.
As mentioned first in the check list of the OP it clearly mentions to use the search bar to find previous mentions about the issue, trust me when I say "it does wonders".
But as of now it's no problem, just keep that in mind if you ever have an issue next time.

Thank you so much for the support!! I've flashed, Lightning zap v5, kko kernel and h0tcakez, all with fresh install cache, data and dalvik cleared and the 3 kernels fails with the rotation, the only one that haven't the rotation issue is Nibbles kernel but this one gives me call echo, tried noise supression but the same thing... Now I re-flashed the Rom with the incluided kernel and seems its working, is weird... All the process mentioned above was always with all the wipes... Sorry for my english, its hard to me write this language

Vibration settings
Current ROM: AOKP All-star 4.2 (Milestone 1)
Current kernel:3.0.49 Cyogenmod
Recovery system used: CWM
Detailed description of the issue: A bit of a silly question, but is there a way to turn on/off/change the intensity level of the vibrations?
Also, is there a way to have sound + vibrations on at the same time?
Thanks!
PS: Is there also a way to set my default keyboard to something else (ie, Swiftkey)? it keeps asking me to "select input"...
Edit: I'm sorry, I have so many questions! :s I also have problems getting sound from the alarm, and my mic for certain apps (ie: wechat) also doesn't seem to work anymore.

About the vibrations, there might be something in settings that can help you. If not, there's probably also an app that can help you. You can change the vibration intensity in settings. Before you click "choose default keyboard", you have to check off the one you want.

Hi,
Thank you for your answer.
With regards to the keyboard, I have SwiftKey as my default but everytime I use it the "select input method" pops up and I can't uncheck the android keyboard (it's greyed out).

IDK if you used my CWM package as your base, but the font's weren't symlinked in the updater script so sammy keyboard and facebook are broken.

In the sound settings, all tick boxes are checked for vibration and the intensity turned up. I only ask because I never noticed these settings in GB (unless I totally missed it), and you just never know.
Posted a zip to flash new kernel in OP and Dev Thread to fix Vibration issue..
what sthe real different between kernels? Which has better battery life RACing?
Racing19969, you're a god damn hero. When I get paid I'll send you some beer money.
Would this kernel work on the Skyrocket R2 ROM to fix the vibration intensity?
Does lock screen weather work on this ROM? Netflix?

So is this going to have the font issue with the new kernal? Or was that just yaldaks and I don't need the fix?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
So... other than the vibrate fix, does anyone has a convincing reason to flash the other kernal? I could give 2 poops about vibrate, I'm in love with this new leak.

Had the vibration issue, with is big for me, and it wasn't reading my SD card.
Also, I ended up going back to the Skyrocket port by Racer for the custom stock theme that I was able to install. When I tried flashing the rom I got a blank screen of death, so I reverted back.
I can live without Netflix and a camcorder for now. I'm in love with the Skyrocket port Rom, it's been amazing for me thus far. If it ain't broke don't fix it, though I do want to eventually upgrade.
I deff like this kernel better than the previous thanx for the fix everything seems to be working

[ROM][JB] Link to OFFICIAL AOKP Nightly (Maguro and Toro)

FIRST OF ALL, ALL THE CREDITS GO TO TEAM KANG, NOT ME. I AM NOT EVEN A DEVELOPER. I'M JUST A GUY WHO WANTS TO SHARE THIS AMAZING ROM.

MAKE A BACKUP!
Do factory reset/wipe
Clear cache
Clear dalvik cache
Flash the ROM
Flash Gapps
Reboot
Enjoy!
If you have any questions, feel free to PM me. I will be glad to help. But remember that I am not the developer of this ROM...
I found this ROM to be very stable and very smooth/fast. I found little to no lag with CPU overclocked to 1.4GHz.
Enjoy and remember, I will not be responsible for any issues.
Kernels that I recommend
Also, If you're interested in another kernel (For some reason), I highly recommend Trinity Kernel, although I never tried Franco Kernel...
Here's the link to Trinity Kernel: http://derkernel.com/jb-tuna.php
My favourite are the Faux kernels...i think this is the best choice fast,stable,customizable...
I think Franco,Trinity,Fugumod have some bug and my AOKP rom isn't butter smooth with them....

It will, or should download just fine from the phone. The progress bar likely wont work and you might get an .htm file instead of .zip, just rename it.

January 28: New Version Slim ION Honami Cyanogen Way UB/LB

New version added, only 197 mb in zip. See download section...
_________________________________________________________________________________________________
Here is my tribute to Cyanogenmode team and their great success in creating lightning speed roms.
This rom is based on my Aoba Pure Black, but instead of the original size of 390 mb, this version has only 240 197 mb in zip. This is as close to CM roms (190 mb) as possible. I believe this is the first stock based rom of this size. In addition to removing usual Google/Social/Sony bloat, I took great care to get rid of literally hundreds of unnecessary files in framework and lib directories. As a result, the rom is (in my view, of course) as fast, fluid and ram available, as CM roms, but with the added benefit of good battery life. Your Android OS won't take more than 4-6% of battery life. At the same time, the rom has all the usual and latest Xperia Z1 features: honami framework/icons/animation.
The idea was to improve on something that is hard rock stable, as opposed to doing Kitkat, which is ages away from stability on the part of Google and the development community without negating the latter's great work.
DESCRIPTION:
1. Fully deodexed, rooted, busyboxed, debloated (3rd party GAPPS still work), black themed version.
2. Based on JB 4.1.2/.96 version ported by me
3. Honami Framework with fully black UI including Phone, Contacts, Calendar, Clock, Calculator, Home (7 icons), Quick Settings, Volume Panel et al
4. CPU Control, Led Control, SMS Counter and OEM Dock in Settings
5. Apollo player and CM file manager
6. AOSP lock screen with new vertical animation
7. Nexus Camera with all resolutions (no stock camera)
8. Only 240 197 mb in size (zipped)
9. On first start about 375-385 mb of ram available
10. Regular boot is under 30 seconds
11. Blue themed dynamic boot animation
12. Ready to go APN settings for many countries
CREDITS: Niabok and JJwrongJJ for Honami Framework, Hitfan for 7 icon Home, Avik6123 for latest Z1 apps, CM team for Apollo, CM File manager and APN settings. PM me if I forgot you.
INSTALL INSTRUCTION
1. Have 211 JB stock kernel, Roger Baseband (if your have LT28i or AT&T versions) and CWM
2. Enter recovery, go to Mounts and Storage, mount System/Cache/Data and format each. Remember, factory reset is not enough!
3. Install the rom, reboot and let it settle
4. Go to Settings/Display/Quick Settings and choose Quick Settings for black, as opposed to SystemUI for white
5. Enable Wifi/Data, then go to Settings/Wifi/Advanced and tick stay on when screen is off, if you use VOIP services
6. Install CWM and you are all set
7. Enjoy the rom and hit Thank you/Donate or both
P.S. Rom and GAPPS are in Download Section

You don't have to turn off led control. Just go there and configure it the way you want...

Small Apps: try the attached. Unzip (don't flash) and manually transfer to system/apps with correct permissions. There is no guarantee they will work, as I might have removed support for them. If they don't work, just delete them...

I am running CM10 right now. Perhaps someone else could post a few pictures?

[ROM] [VECTUS] GN5 Project AOSP [V0.0] 4.4.2 (03-22-2014)

This is meant for the Sprint LG G2 (LS980)
Ok I don't have a fancy Name folks... So GN5 Project will suffice... This is just a little hobby rom I use. It's based on CM and designed to mimick the Nexus 5. So KISS is the word (keep it simple AND stupid). This rom is not fancy at all... It's vanilla actually. But thats for a reason... So YOU the user can add what you like and take away... Make it YOUR kitkat if you will... Click the screenshots button at the top for screenshots...
What's in this (v0.0)
Furnace Kernel -1.8.0 for AOSP (BIG thanks to Savoca!!!)
Stock Google (No MMS app, No Browser it uses Chrome and Hangouts like the N5)
Based on CM, it has all CM parts. IE all issues CM has
VTWEAKS. For example (naming a few and not all):
Wifi Scan Interval 240
My touchscreen sensitivity Mod
Window Max Events 300
Lots of init.d Tweaks (some not all):
SD Card speed 7168
Zipalign on Boot
Battery Calibration
Zipalign Data
Sqlite Optimized
Smoothness Tweaks[/HIDE]
Apps Included:
All google Apps
Google Wallet
Xposed for Kitkat (Thanks rovo980!)
NO SMS/MMS app (download what you want or use Hangouts or may I suggest 8sms?)
Kingsoft Office
Facebook
CM File Manager
N0-Frills CPU control
Screen Off
Torch
Sprint Voicemail (I'll include this later but pull the one from a stock rom and install as a regular app and it will work...) SEE 2nd POST
Playstore
Google Launcher
SolCalendar
Has N5 Alarms, Notifications, Ringtones, and Bootanimation
TRICK you may want to use: I don't use the included Kitkat Launcher. I use Apex (download it from the market). I activate screen off. In Apex I click behavior settings. Go to desktop double tap and click it. Click Launch App. Find Screen Off and click it. Hit OK. You can now double tap the screen in and turn the screen off!!! Inspire Launcher (an actual Kitkat Launcher has this same setting. Find Inspire in the Playstore).
NOTE: I don't have an agreement with Google therefore I don't need to use Gapps (the playstore is included)
How to flash:
First time installing to your LS980, or coming from another ROM:
- If you use a recovery OTHER than TWRP based. I can't help you (this rom will boot on ALL modems AND ZVA).
- Download the Rom
- Copy the rom ZIP to your SDCard
- Boot into Recovery
- Click Wipe
- Click Advanced Wipe
- Click Dalvik Cache, System, Data, and Cache
- Swipe to Wipe
- Got to Install
- Navigate to where you stored the Rom
- Click the Rom
- Swipe to confirm Flash
- Once complete REBOOT
That is all you need to do
- Don't restore system data using Titanium Backup!
- Restoring Apps + Data might cause problems and is not recommended, avoid it if possible!
Thanks:
CyanogenMod for CM

Google for android
LG FOR THE N5 and G2

Savoca
Lrod0175 for all his help! Thanks Man!!
ROM DOWNLOAD
FIX for Chrome lockup:
If you suffer Chrome lock up or strange Chrome behavior navigate to system/etc and delete the sysctl.conf file. And reboot. It will not have any adverse effects on the rom. Somehow I threw that file in there and its not needed... Thats why we don't develop while drinking beer folks lol.
SPARK FIX. I don't know if anyone else has suffered this but here is how I fixed it. After coming from a AOSP based rom I could NOT get Spark/LTE to work on a stock rom. I fixed this issue by using ##3282# (Hidden settings) and disabling band 41. The phone will then reboot. I then had LTE. I then used ##3282# again and went in and re-enabled band 41. The phone rebooted and my Spark AND Lte was working again. Please NOTE that you must be on a stock rom and you will need to have your MSL. Go HERE to get them. BIG thanks to chris0160 for posting them!

Thanks man! Just a little hobby rom...:good:
Same issue here. Flashes fine but no data or WiFi. I see the radio and prl are right. I am guessing an APN issue since we are not able to update profile..?
Fast and smooth!

Just wanted to say the this rom flashed flawlessly. Lte, and wifi both work great. Very smooth and fast. I did run into some problems with the gallery not finding my existing pictures, and a few google apps not responding. Very very smooth rom though. Thank you!

I just wanted to say that I flashed the zva radio and the rom worked fine for wifi and data, super fast thank you and sorry for the confusion.
I myself don't use gapps either. What else would I remove besides play store on you're rom

Thanks for the rom. I appreciate your hard work. How do I get my contacts to stick? And screen comes back on immediately after going dark(kit kat launcher) whether I use Power button or tap.
I don't know what happened, but now my contacts are sticking.

Discontinued

this rom is no more. No update to LP, no more support for KK. Im out.
SCREENSHOTS:
coming tonight. Sorry for the inconvenience. However, it is not themed in any way and looks like stock touchwiz.
BUGS:
Flashing ael kernel on top of this rom causes massive force closes. This is being addressed as we speak
Other NOTES:
This rom comes preloaded with the STOCK KERNEL! You can obviously use whichever kernel you'd like, however I am using the stock kernel, so any benchmarks and user experiences will vary. If you do choose to stick with the stock kernel, i recommend using the interactive governor for best results.

I downloaded and attempted to flash v1.1 - on reboot I get a ton of FC's - WFC error (wahtever that is) and abunch of others -
totally unsuable - not sure if I had a bad download but not willing to try it again unless someone confirms they flashed sucessfully and if so - what steps they used? I tried with and without a custom kernel - no go each time.
Suggestions?

This happened when I flashed AEL kernel. But straight up download and install with a wipe of data and cache should be working
Edit: I know what the problem is and am patching it rn. However there still should be 0 problem flashing this rom. The problem lies in flashing certain kernels over this rom, like ael. Bioshock works.
Edit2: bioshock is confirmed working. It's only flashing ael, which I'll fix tonight.
Sent from my SM-N910T using XDA Free mobile app
yep - I was using AEL Kernel - never thought it would be a problem - I will try again with Bio Shock - thanks for the headsup
So my testing stint on CM12 is over and I am headed back over to Touchwiz. I'm grabbing this now to see your work and I'll let you know how it is. I'm going to stick with the stock kernel for the time being because I don't really have a need to undervolt/clock at the moment. I find stability to be most important and with the stock kernel people are getting between 6 and 7 hours of screen on time. Thank you for putting this out for us, I'll let you know if I run into any issues :good:
Edit: do you mind including an MD5 for your stable releases? Just for verifying download integrity over mobile connection.
For v1.1 Final I have: 226391fbc7c0eabfd8fc94b5f0b74873
Always great to see more available work on our forum. Thanks for posting and sharing with the community, very commendable to request donations go towards charity.
Good luck my man
Downloaded and installed. No problems so far

Stock Kernel works well, as does Bioshock. AEL isn't playing nice with a script in my rom, so i am releasing a patch which will fix this issue.
How about the Nadia kernel?
Heres the patch to make AEL kernel work for this rom: http://jdkoreclipse.net/downloads/Note4Tmo/AEL_KERNEL_FIX.zip
******THIS IS NOT NEEDED FOR BIOSHOCK KERNEL! IT IS UNTESTED WITH STARKISSED.*******
Make sure to flash this BEFORE flashing AEL kernel.
Also, v1.2 is in the works and will probably be posted within the night. Stay tuned
EDIT: i saw a question about MD5's...my website should generate the md5 of the file for you if you click the "i" to the far right of the file name
BUMP!
Sorry for the double post, but v1.2 was ready quicker than expected.
Changes:
Added Montblanc Spen app
Enabled lockscreen rotation
Enabled 360 degree rotation
Sped up animations some more
Removed Software update tab in about
show time Sms/mms was sent
enabled copy to dialer
enabled camera during call
