There seems to be quite a good number of folks here that have not yet received the OTA update.
For those that are tired of checking and waiting or playing the date game. See the last post in link below and be sure to thank reinbeau for hosting the file:
AT&T to release OTA update on Dec. 27 to enable Multi-Window on Note II

Ok, guys, go blow up my Mediafire account. update.zip. I used the /cache method and stock recovery, didn't wipe my phone but did break root; you are welcome to CWM it in Recovery, but it will wipe. Enjoy it while it lasts

Note: There are two ways to apply this update. The method I recommend requires that you be rooted.
Method 1:
Download the update zip file from the link that is referenced in above post. Root your phone and use root explorer to copy to /cache. Once copied; do full unroot, reboot into recovery, flash from cache, then reboot and enjoy 4.1.2.
Another note: Just to clarify, this update file is for stock 4.1.2 that is sent via OTA. Also, I suggest to unroot before installing the update because it will break root. You can root again using the exynos exploit after applying the update. Also, this process does require stock recovery!
Method 2:
If you do not want to root your phone. You can save the update.zip on your external sdcard and apply from there but by doing so I believe it will wipe your device. By updating from cache, I was able to update my wife's phone without it being wiped clean.

Installed this from the cache. Only problem is that kies doesn't recognize this as official firmware. This kinda bothers me a little.

That's because this has not been released to Kies. If you were on stock rom and recovery, your status should show normal and it should show as official when you boot into download mode.
Also, if this was not official, you wont be able to flash this using stock recovery since it checks the signature for the file and it would have failed signature verification.

Great Thread.
Hopefully it I'll end the "I haven't gotten the update yet "
And get people to manually update.

I tried recovery (volume up+home+power). I left buttons pressed and it only shows NOTE II splash screen then blanck then the screen again every 10 or so seconds.. never gets into recovery mode. It boot normally if I just press power button, and it goes into odin if I do VOL down +home+power. Any ideas why recovery is not working?

First of all you need to get into recovery mode, not download mode. To get into recovery you hold Volume up+Home button+Power button. You should only hold this three button combo until the screen flashes with the splash screen then immediately let go.

I was copying the file with root explorer.
I mentioned the "download mode " screen just to give a picture of the phone behavior(what is working vs what was not), did not meant to cause confusion there.
I have a new problem now as mentioned in my last post
I an attempt to get into recovery and clear the cache, I read in a forum that I could get into recovery via GOOMANAGER. I installed it and used "reboot to recovery " and now phone is stuck in ENLESS LOOP of the "samsung NOTE 2" screen.
I cannot make it boot normally now.I think the phone is stuck trynig to get into recovery similar to the manual way described before (when I press UP+HOME+POWER to get into recovery phone only looped samsung screen). HOw can I break the loop ?
The only screen working right now is ODIN (DOWN +HOME+POWER).
Go to sammobile and download the stock rom then flash via odin.

I'm not understanding how to do this. My device is a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Bell version 317 which I understand is the same as AT&T. I have unlocked and rooted my device on 4.1.1 and have Root explorer installed. Downloaded the update link and copied that file into the /cache folder....unrooted via superuser. When I try to get in2 recovery it is successful but I don't know what to do from there.....there's an option to format cache which I'm assuming will delete everything in that folder.
Also, I cannot install the zip via external sd card which the update is also on
Any help?

I try to root my phone samsung SGH-T999V s3 of videotron. I use the method of this post: SGH-T999V Canadian GS3 (CWM + ROOT + CM9).
I had to redo the step with Odin 3 times to finally restart the CMW recovery. I remove the battery and finally I succeeded. I install ClockworkMod touch.
Now the problem is that I am unable to restart CMW Recovery mode. I tried the method of Vol + and Power Menu and the method by writing terminal emulator su, boot recovery and also ROM manager. It does not work.
Each time it is the stock android recovery which starts
I do not know what to do to install CyanogenMod 10.
I have read many post but I do not know if my phone is compatible with the other method.
Can you help me please
Reflash and take the battery out faster. ODIN will say it's succesfull and then the phone will overwrite it so the only way to know for sure is when you go into recovery.
Battery pulls are unnecessary. Delete or rename these.
/system/recovery-from-boot.p
/system/etc/install-recovery.sh
Reinstall recovery with rom or goo manager and reboot recovery.

Installation aborted.
And now i don't know what to do.

Ok, you do need root first to delete those files. Sorry for misunderstanding earlier.
Reflash your recovery with odin like before but make sure you uncheck suto reboot.
After complete, unplug and hold the power button untill it begins restarting. You need to be quick but as soon as the screen goes off, immediately press home and volume up while still holding power. Itll take a few seconds but after the blue text flashes at the top of the screen let go of power but keep holding the other two till you get recovery.
Now flash superSU or superuser and reboot.
Now you should be able to delete those files and reinstall recovery with goo or rom manager.
Im going by memory so you may want to get another opinion first. But I think you should be good.

Today I finally rooted my Tablet 7 with some help from gr8nole here on XDA. Needless to say I was very happy and started downloading any and all apps that required root I was interested in. Unfortunately about an hour into my adventure I downloaded an app called LCD Density. DO NOT DOWNLOAD THIS APP. It soft bricked my device after changing the density from 240 to 160. I am now just trying to get back to square one again and have no idea what to do. I wiped the cache partition and re flashed root. Reboot same thing again. The Samsung screen is vertical not horizontal and doing the infamous glow from blue to white and back to blue and nothing more continuously. I am in CWM now and not really sure what step to take next as I don't want to risk a hard brick. I went to Rom Manager in CWM and no files were there when I went to use the backup feature What should I do?

Why didnt you just change the density back? Open build.prop, or push a stock version of it via adb or (idk if it is possible) via fastboot.
Then yoir problem should be solved. Those tweaks have got nothing to do with cache, or data, or so
Thats also why you need root and also the reason, why it is not so easy, to root some devices
But try brain.exe and everything should work, as it should

It ended up in a loop, rebooting constantly... now I tried to UN-root it to begin from 0 and it keeps rebooting and telling me at the beginning in red: recovery is not seandroid enforcement and then some times if it loads, i says: optimizing apps... and then it says Finishing boot (it stays there for a while) and then the T-Mobil logo appears (it stays there for a while) and it reboot... After that it boots until it says: "process system isn't responding" and I have 2 options, wait or close, none of them work

you will need manually flash most likely the saberkernel green. Once you have it up and running, update your twrp. The older versions of recovery had restore issues.

Once back into the rom, use goomanager from play store. click menu and install recovery scrpit. Once done, it will ask you do you want to install twrp 2.6.3.7. yes you want to do this. Twrp 2.6.3.1 dn has known issues with the Note 3

On here's what you do, as I had the EXACT same problem that you have. I fixed my brickloop by doing the following:
(I would backup your efs partition before doing this, just for completeness sake)*
Installed Stock firmware via Odin,*
Installed TWRP 2.6.3.2 via odin, rebooted to recovery
Did an "adb shell" when phone is in recovery mode to run commands via TWRP
From the ADB shell: Wiped the EFS partition with the following command:
mke2fs /dev/block/mmcblk0p12*
mkdir /efs
mount -t ext4 /dev/block/mmcblk0p12 /efs
(the last two commands probably did nothing, but thats what I did anyway)
Did a Factory Reset*
Then... reboot to system
Afterwards, no more boot looping, the phone successfully registered on the mobile network, and my IMEI is there and correct. Seems like the EFS partition can rebuild itself now I guess...These commands can also be ran from TWRP

Not to sound like a jerk...but this is the reason why companies lock down bootloaders and what not. You can fix this issue that you caused by following a few steps or getting an SDCARD reader for your computer and transfer the files to it that way. They are dirt cheap. It is not Tmobiles fault that you screwed up a flash. Just my 2 cents.
I cant seem to find an updated guide with files to root and install a custome recovery on the sprint note 2 with 4.3 can someone help me find a link or get me the files etc?
Thanks
Recovery
I went to cyanogenmods website and ran the installer as directed. That installed cyanogenmod and rooted the device automatically, then you can download and flash any of the other custom ROMs on this site.
I rooted 4.3 with allinone toolkit clicking older variation and worked fine

My note 2 is blocking the cyanogenmod installer. It says unartherized access to a secured area on your phone without authorization has been blocked.
I'm stumped just got this phone and it is a pain to root

Do this
1. Boot into download/bootloader mode.
2. Connect to pc and use odin to flash twrp. Make sure you uncheck reboot and flash twrp in the pda slot.
3. Once flashed pull battery and disconnect from pc.
4. Press vol+ menu power buttons while inserting battery (yes it is difficult but can be done)
5. Now in recovery perform factory reset.
6. Flash this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=36388145
7. Now reboot it will act/look weird but dont worry this is normal. It will reboot and take a long time to boot.
Now you are on stock mc2 (no knox anymore). Root using cf autoroot http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=33278464
Now use odin once again and flash your recovery again. Now you are rooted and have a custom recovery. Oh and you have a working phone again.

Before I do all of that...I discovered I can boot into TWRP and updated it to the newest version. Then I installed the cyanogen nightly onto the phone. Everything seemed to be working ok except I couldn't get any phone signal but wifi worked. I tried loading the dirty unicornes rom and the same thing happened . I then flashed cm 10.1 and the phone worked for calls but the asop keyboard kept crashing and couldn't login to the wifi network. I tried several installs with factory resets with the same results. If I follow the directions you listed will I be able to install these roms and the phone work for calls or am I missing another piece of the puzzle?

Look for it in the development thread. The op will have a link. Use 6.07.9 version and make sure it has a zip extension not md5.

Okk.
1. Download Superuser zip from following link and copy the zip to internal memory..
http://download.chainfire.eu/396/SuperSU/
2. Download Philz recovery build 3 from following link
https://s.basketbuild.com/devs/rutvikrvr/hl3g/cwm
3. Download odin.
4. Switch off the phone and remove back cover as you will have to pull down battery in next step.
5. Put you phone in download (odin) mode.
6. Flash Philz recovery you just downloaded via odin, after it say Reset in odin and you phone vibrates, quickly pull down the battery.. Do not let the phone switch on.
7. Now go to recovery mode..
8. Flash SuperSu zip which you downloaded and copied in your phone's internal from there.

Nice to know you are rooted..
Download Attached app Root Uninstall to remove system app (So called Blotwares)..
On the Top you will see System App/User App, tap it to switch between System or User Apps.. Then just tap on the apps you want to remove and press Uninstall on the bottom of the app..
There is also an option to backup the apps.
Don't Say, just PRESS Thanks <===============
Thanks yet again!
After Rooting. Android System seems to be eating toouch battery. Almost equal to Screen. See screenshot attached.
Any clue why?

You might have uninstalled important files...This is might be a side effects.
Do not play with root if you do not have enough knowledge what you are doing.
