Do a full wipe from recovery.
Sent from my HTC One V using xda app-developers app
@ivanrvf I will try re-downloading everything, and start over.
@mihirengg19 I already did that several times, I even cleared dalvik cache.
I just noticed that syncing contacts lasts forever, it just says syncing now... and nothing else happens (I'm connected to wi-fi). I also tried disabling/enabling contacts sync and got the same result. Maybe this is the problem? Last time I was using paranoid rom I also had problems with contacts, and lost any contacts added while the rom was on.
no one faced the same issues until now. so far i never heard of syncing failure or anything like that. make sure you perform/wipe the following in recovery before you install the rom:
Factory Reset (no need for dalvik cache or cache cause this option is doing both);
System;
Flash the rom;
Boot the rom
Reboot the rom to recovery;
Flash the gapps;
Reboot the rom;
Try again.

Thanks I will try in a few moments
Solved the problem. It wasn't paranoid rom, some addon in thunderbird email client duplicated my contacts, and there were 17000 contacts, the phone was having trouble searching through that huge list. Thank you all.

Hello,
I am just starting with all romes and stuff.
I hope i am posting in the right place.
I got my ATT Samsung galaxy s3 a few days ago:
1. I have downloaded CWM6.0.1.2 on it with oding pulled the battery and went to recovery.
2. then installed CM10 stable (cm-10.0.0-d2att).
3.then installed gapps-ics-20120317-signed.
4. today i found this forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1965290&highlight=gapp and installed the Gapps from here according to the post (http://d-h.st/sPL , which is New ZIP by garner (JB-4.2-Gapps-signed.zip) (11/11/2012).
Now I have a problem:
After those steps. when ever I press the home button I receive a message "complete action using" options are LAUNCHER or TREBUCHET and then "always or just once"
If I choose TREBUCHET I receive my phone and my setting as usual.
If I choose LAUNCHER I receive a new phone as if I installed it again with the JB-4.2-Gapps-signed.zip
a few questions:
1. does anybody know what to do and how to resolve this?
2. which Gapp works with CM10?
3.I repeated from above, steps 2 and 4 hoping install ROM and gapps , and the same happens again (I have wiped everything in CWM). how can I whip or delete or format the phone to default so I can repeat the process again? (I think when I wipe in CWM and install the CM10 again some data remains like photos or I had a problem where i did not have camera on my phone i resolved it by installing the gallery2.apk from CM10 zip - that added me camera icon and gallery icon in the phone which i did not have before and now after every re installation of the ROM they are still there) so how can I start the process from beginning so all will be wiped ?
Thank you hope you can help me....

if u install CM10 alias Android 4.1.* than u don't can install that Gapps pack, it is for CM10.1 alias Android 4.2.1.
if u are safe in Android and what normal should be in ur Android /system partition, u can delete all apps from AROMA Filemanager.
but the safest way is u start from begin. go into cwm and do a factory reset. this erase all data. after that use the latest Gapps from goo.im for Android 4.1.*
Can you point me to gapp that is for CM10?
and also where can i find CM10.1 and his Gapps?

I think i can kinda help you
1.
Trebuchet and launcher are just different launchers for your phone, they provide you with different user interfaces. If trebuchet is the one that has all your settings then you can select that and select 'always' so it will autmatically do that when you press the home button. If you want to change it later you can always go to settings>applications>whatever launcher you are using>clear app defaults
2.
I'm not sure, maybe check back on the original cm10 thread and see what that says regarding GAPPS but I think you can also flash this package. Also, i believe CM10 is a jelly bean based rom so you have to flash the jellybean GAPPS package not the ics one
3.
Go to settings>storage>format sd card to wipe your external sd card
Then go to settings then backup and reset and uncheck 'Automatic Restore' and 'Backup my data' This will prevent your previous apps from re-installing. Then press Factory data reset to clear all data. After that go to CWM and wipe cache, dalvik cache, and factory data reset to completely wipe everything on your phone. After that power off and go into download mode and reflash your stock firmware.
Hope all this helps
Additional advice: try flashing a stock based custom rom, those tend to be less buggy than original roms

I did what you suggested in no. 2 still have the problem with the launchers.
maybe some one knows what Gapp to use with the stable CM10 or where to get CM.1 and compatible working Gapss 4.2 for my att s3?

it's not a problem, if Android had more than one launcher installed u had to choose which launcher u want to use.
Sorry for the trouble, I know these questions get asked often here but I've been searching around and it seems like I'm getting conflicting answers everywhere I look. I'm trying to use this kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1844049 with this ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1772897
I'm unsure of exactly what order to do everything in. It seems like this should be correct, no?
full wipe in recovery
flash kernel zip in recovery
flash boot.img in fastboot
flash cm9 in recovery
Am I totally off course? My phone is obviously still functioning...to an extent. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Edit: just tried again with the above steps. Same issue. Boots into CM9 as expected, then about 30-60 seconds later it reboots itself. I know there's something I'm missing, I just can't figure out what :\

If that doesn't work see if you can't find a newer boot.img (helped me on AOKP)
Alright. I just tried that and I'm still encountering the same issue. Maybe I'm just paranoid but now it seems like the reboots are happening faster than before.
edit: tried flashing AOKP just for the hell of it. Even after following these instructions to a T, the same thing is happening:
* Download ROM and GApps
* Make sure you're running the latest version of your recovery
* MAKE A BACKUP
* Wipe cache/dalvik
* Wipe data (only if coming from another JB ROM / ICS) (NOT Needed for updating, but recommended for full effect)
* Flash ROM
* Flash GApps
* Boot into Bootloader
* fastboot flash boot boot.img (The one inside the ROM.zip)
* reboot

Let me guess, Virgin Mobile, and if you check, I'll bet your current radio version ends with .9xx. Flash the original Sprint RUU to go back to the old radio and you'll be good to flash ROMs and kernels.

He is CDMA, why are telling him to flash a primou rom?
Ok so a little background. I bought a new HTC One X back in August 2012. Before I did anything, I did the usual and installed a ViperX ROM (cannot remember which). It had been 18 months with that ROM so a few weeks ago I decided to look into a newer one. I went for ViperX 4.0.7 as I wanted to stay Team Venom. My firmware was still 0.93 so had to lock, update, unlock ect.
Currently it is 1.36, with the latest TWRP recovery (as suggested) and I flashed ViperX 4.0.7.
Everything worked fine and it installed as it should. But there are a few problems which I need to ask about:
1. Very short battery life while hardly using phone. Battery died overnight at one point from 60%. It seems to have settled but only slightly. Should I wipe battery stats?
2. I have uninstalled a few things I did not want using titanium Backup. Every time I restart the phone, the apps reappear in the app draw as in the photo attached. I can 'hold' on the apps and drag them to uninstall, it removes the icon and its fine after that. Just very annoying after every restart! Is there a way to get it so they never reappear after restart?
Im not sure if they are just bugs (if so, should I report them to Team Venom?) or if there is something I can actually do about them.
Any feedback is much appreciated.
Not able to install 4.0.7
I am not able to flash ViperX 4.0.7 on my HOX.
It always reboots my phone when installation reaches 13%.
Did someone else faced the same problem.
I am using the same boot.img as in the zip file provided.
I am able to flash and use 4.0.1 ver of ViperX.
Any help appreciated!

Any other way???
1: Try a custom kernel. I do not have that much of a drain. Did you do a proper manual full wipe before installing the rom.
2: clear the cache/data from HTC sense and they will disappear.
Do I need to be s-off for a custom kernel? I am still s-on. Yes I did a full wipe, then an advanced wipe as I wanted to start with a fresh phone.
I cant seem to find how to clear sense cache, got a quick description?
I have been searching the forums, but as you can see I don't spend much time on here and am struggling to find the answers.
Scratch that! Read a bit more into it. So can you advise the best kernel with 4.0.7?
And as for the wipe, do you mean just the cache wipe in recovery?
A full wipe in the recovery (based on philz touch 5.15) :
Factory reset
Wipe cache partition
Advanced - wipe dalvik cache
Mounts and storage - format cach, data and system
Then install the rom and choose in aroma cache wipe only and a full rom install (apps) and i assume you flashed the boot.img from the rom.zip ?
Best kernel does not exist unfortunately. You have to try some, i am on the latest lyapota and the phone lasts all day with medium use (6:00-23:00)
Wiping sense data :
Settings - apps - all apps - navigate to the app called "sense" or "HTC sense" can't recall it at the minute.....select it and clear the cache/data
and no, you don't need to be S-OFF to flash custom kernel...

Yes, I did exactly that.
Got the App draw problem sorted, thanks!
As for flashing just a kernel, is it a case of just downloading and flashing? No need to install the ROM again is there? Do I flash the kernel in recovery or ADB?

flash the kernel zip via recovery and the boot.img you find inside the zip via fastboot, just like you did for the rom's boot.img
Ok last question - I think!
Should I stick to a kernel alike my ROM? e.g I have a sense ROM, should I pick a sense kernel (or one from the Original Android Development thread)?
Or can they be mixed?
No they can't be mixed. Sense roms needs sense kernels.
If I was to flash a kernel, will it put more settings or another app full of settings on my phone? Or is it all behind the scenes pre built into the kernel? I don't exactly want to start messing around with overclocking, undervolting ect?
My home button doesn't always work as it should. Its intermittent when it wants to switch to home screen. Sometimes it doesn't even vibrate to register I've pressed it. I've looked through venom tweaks, nothing I can see would effect it. Any ideas?
I'm having problems with venom hub. When I first clicked the app and registered, it never sent an email to confirm. Now, every time I go on the app, the log in screen comes up and wont let me log in (because I haven't confirmed registration) or go back to try another email address. How do I get it to send another confirmation email OR reset the app to allow me to try another email?
afaik only lyapota's kernel installs an app to let you mount the sdcard as a diskdrive. The options of the kernel are build in, but you can use some kernel settings via venom tweaks like :
Turning on/off s2w
Turning on/off dt2w
Frequencies
Fastcharge
Schedulers
Or you can change scripts which are explained in his thread.
The venom hub should work. Submit 4 or 5 times, some say that worked. If you have continuing problems logging in you can send Ivicask (team venom dev) a PM with your info so he can check/activate the account.

[Q] [ROM][4.4.2][WIP] CyanogenMod 11.0 [UNOFFICIAL] - "XY aplication has stopped"
Hi all,
I finally made "functioned" KK + gapps (Gapps-KK-4.4.0-Signed-UpdatedWithGtransport.zip) + cronmod (int2ext+) + overclock (806) on my WFS.
..but..I find that "Google play services" and "Hangouts" sometimes get an error about that the specific app stopped working, I also find that sometimes occurs an error with "Exchange services" (first boot + one more time yesterday).
Am I doing something wrong? Is here any fix for this? I find same problem with "Google play services has stopped" also in AOKP after I started using Hangouts (but I am not pretty sure about that this was the reason).
Thanks all for help! I will appreciate it!

The right way to flash gapps would be installing it alongside the rom, but KK is giving errors with setup wizard......so you will have to boot into the rom once and then flash gapps. The problems may also be caused by the overclock, try running the Rom at the normal frequency (600 mhz) and see if the errors stop

I found out that mobile "automaticaly restart" in one moment, than after boot it gives me some error about "sim card" and that the restart is needed.. so I again restarted, now I am booted and no error (..yet).
So you think that the problem is with overclock? And if I want to try flash suggested gapps above, is it really necessary to wipe and reflash rom? Can't I just go to recovery and flash (install) new gapps over actul gapps?
Thanks all again!

I believe the automatic reboots are caused by the overclock.
It would be better to just wipe the rom before flashing the other Gapps package, flash them when you have booted into the rom atleast once after wiping

So suggested method is:
1. Go to recovery
2. Data wipe (format)
3. Cache wipe
4. Advanced -> Dalvik Cache wipe
5. Boot rom (no need to flash again rom and patcher?)
6. Go to recovery
7. Install gapps
Am I right?
Btw. what gapps do you use? Because I start thinking that the problem was overlock
Btw2. is it normal that after first boot "Exchange.........." stopped? It appears only one again from yesterday

Btw. what gapps do you use? Because I start thinking that the problem was overlock
Btw2. is it normal that after first boot "Exchange.........." stopped? It appears only one again from yesterday

Correct
About the "Exchange services" error, I experienced it as well on CM11, currently running OmniROM which doesn't show this.

No you won't have to do that IMO
It seems like the problem was overclock, how is it posible? (almost second day without errors)

Pushing anything over it's normal limits can cause problems. This especially holds in the case of processors, overclocking can cause heating and possibly malfunction due to "more-than-normal" clock speeds. It's would be kinda be like not sleeping for two days straight, your brain goes haywire and in extreme cases might shut itself down

Probably you installed it badly.
"Correct way" to install CM 11:
1. Install (flash) ROM + patcher (because of function camera)
2. Normally boot
3. Boot to recovery and install (flash) GAPPS
4. Normally reboot
..and no setup wizard will apear maybe only "Exchange services has stopped.." error, but its probably "normal"..

You flashed Gapps before? You will have to format system before flashing the ROM. As unlike other roms the updater-script of this rom does not format system, so the gapps remain.
Hah figured it out with yhe original thread. Thank you people

Hi all,
I finally made "functioned" KK + gapps (Gapps-KK-4.4.0-Signed-UpdatedWithGtransport.zip) + cronmod (int2ext+) + overclock (806) on my WFS.
..but..I find that "Google play services" and "Hangouts" sometimes get an error about that the specific app stopped working, I also find that sometimes occurs an error with "Exchange services" (first boot + one more time yesterday).
Am I doing something wrong? Is here any fix for this? I find same problem with "Google play services has stopped" also in AOKP after I started using Hangouts (but I am not pretty sure about that this was the reason).
Thanks all for help! I will appreciate it!

Ignore the exchange services quote and your issues might be due to improper clean up of prev. Rom.. how did you clean it up?

Hi everyone,
Today I installed the new CM12 nightlies, after rebooting my HTC one m8 it showed me a popup message that google play services stopped working. I also couldnt launch particular apps. So after looking for a solution I tried reinstalling Gapps hoping this would solve the problem.
I downloaded the minimal Gapps ZIP file and flashed it using TWRP recovery, after I wiped the cache and dalvik cache. Once rebooted I started to get the anoying pop up notifications '' Gmail stopped working'' and ''youtube stopped working''. These two messages won't go away and makes my phone unusable. I think the reason why these messages keep popping up is because i flashed the minimal version of Gapps so I downloaded the normal version of Gapps on my computer since my phone isnt accesable because of the pop-up notifications that won't go away. What I did next was plug in my phone to my computer and moved Gapps L-3-14-15.zip to my SD card and installed it again. I also wiped the cache and dalvik cache. after I did a reboot and everything seemed fine for the first 20 seconds... It didnt last long. Im still having the same problem as before Gmail and youtube has stopped working. Do any of you know how to fix this without doing a system recovery?
Thanks in advance

TWRP
S-on (don't know if this is relevant)

To me it sounds like you installed a gapps 5.0 package not a 5.1 package. With the CM Nightly you need to make sure you're using an updated gapps package designed for android 5.1+.
I always use a minimal gapps package but usually CM has a link available on their page. Double check that you're installing a gapps 5.1 package. I am currently running the 5.1 nightlies and they're great thus far... 4/20 and 4/19 are both confirmable as working on my end. Good luck.
To correct Wipe /data /system /cache and dalvik reinstall the nightly and flash a 5.1 gapps package.

I guess the minimal Gapps package that I first installed wasnt for 5.1
In order to get rid of the pop up notifications I started my phone in safe mode. This worked and I saw there was a new update for cm12.1 after the update finished and I booted up my phone the pop up notification werent there anymore but google play services was also uninstalled. What I did next was installing the newest google play services pack. After it was done I installed the 5.1 Gapps version on my phone and now everything seems working fine again. I did get some notifications that an app such as chrome stopped working but a simple reinstal of the app fixed the problem. Somehow the apps that I moved to my external SD card arent here anymore but im glad I didnt have to do a factory reset.
Thanks for your help

every time i update my cm12 nightlies it has its own recovery (cyanogen recovery) but my zip files are not working with that recovery. (ex. cmzip.gapps, and kernels). for my device it works on PhilZ touch recovery. so the tendency is i have to flash fastboot boot.img(philz touch)again and again.
using Thunderzap kernel 4.15 im stock on bootloop.
running cm12.1 nightlies (4/20/15)
also gapps not compatible.

I use twrp and I've not had any issues with a cm recovery replacing twrp. On the 420 nightly I don't even see a recovery.img in the cm zip so I'm assuming you're updating via cm itself. I think there's a setting in there to choose to update cm recovery or not.
To flash Phillz recovery you're syntax would be "fastboot flash recovery recoveryimgname.img" the boot.img is your kernel. I'm not sure how many aosp 5.1 kernels the m8 has but I've not really been able to find any so I just use the cm one.
To correct your issues I would flash twrp 2.8.6 via fastboot flash recovery. Wipe everything from recovery (cache data dalvik system) and reinstall. If it was me I'd update cm via zip from now on if it was causing me these issues. Good luck

Everything seemed working fine again until 30 min. ago...
I got the notification chrome has stopped working. (Haven't had this message all the morning and chrome worked just fine.)
I restarted my phone and the first thing I noticed was that some of my apps have disapeared from my home screen, they are still in the app tray tho. Also my keyboard input mode has been set back to AOSP while normaly I use Swiftkey keyboard as my standard input. Chrome was still pushing me not working notification so I reinstalled chrome and now it works fine again. Not sure for how many time...
Its kinda anoying but maybe tonights nightlies will solve the problem somehow. If not, do you have any sugestions how to fix this?

Yeah I mean nightlys merge with code that it's being worked on and may break or fix certain things. Nightly builds may be perfect or they may not even boot. You kind of have to just flash them and see. Cm is very generic coding and depending on your carrier may not have the non open source vendor blobs necessary to make, say, your speakers work properly. It really depends. I don't believe Verizon had released their kernel source for lollipop so sometimes downgrading firmware to known source (ie 4.4.4) may help alleviate connectivity issues with Wi-Fi and things of that sort. Team UBs build and lollipop dream 5.0.2 have been my go tos as of late. The lollipop dream build is the smoothest running cm build I've ever used even on nexus devices. Very well made.
