My ATT Note 2 took a turn for the worst when I went to charge it tonight. I installed the Jedi-x rom about a month ago and had a couple issues every now and then getting it to charge, but nothing a reboot would not fix.
Now I can not get it to charge at all or connect to my computer.
My fiance has a note 2 as well, her cable/battery/and everything will not charge it either.
I have flashed Blackout
I have flahed the stock i317 kernal
i have reset battery cache in recovery
The device does detect when in download mode. Also with the phone off, when plugging in the power cable, the little red light does flash faintly. What would I have to flash to get back to 100% stock or fix this issues with not charging?
Update: Did a full Odin Firmware reset and still was not able to get a charge or any activity computer wise besides in Download/Odin mode.
Have you tried re-installing Samsung Drivers?
Also does your GF have the same issue with her Note 2 not charging on your PC?
When you plug your Note into another PC, does it charge?
If not, then it might be your charging port (on your Note 2)

Sorry, it's late when I was typing this, her's DOES charge. I used her phone to test my cable and battery, and it does work. What gets me is download mode works. I don't know if it's a separate thing for charging, but it worked fine the other day.
No other PC charges
No other wall place charges
No other cable charges
No other battery charges
Sounds like the charging port, a known issue with the first note. I would be taking it back to where you bought it.

Yeah seems like a defective charging port.
Or make sure the Micro USB port on your device is clean. You can try some compressed air to make sure there’s no dust in there blocking the connection. If it doesnt help, then return your device to the Place of purchase for a possible replacement.
If it's the charging port then you should be able to test it by moving the cord up & down and back and forth and it should hook up at some point.

Did what all of you suggested, and ended up sending it back. Then last night, I was like "eh I'll try it again" plugged it in, and it instantly started charging. So, whatever, I sent it back anyway. Thanks for the ideas guys.

Silly question: did you try using another cable?
I had the same problem, sent it to warranty, replaced the faulty usb cable with a new one...
Temporary fix: try pushing the cable upwards when connected...

hi,
my galaxy nexus doesnt charge, one night i put the charger in, as i do every day, and the next morning the battery was 20%, as i noticed that, i put the charger in again, but it didnt recognise(didnt start charging), so i tried another charger - didnt work as well, tried to connect it to the computer - no go... and so i got to the point that the battery came to the end. Ive been charging the phone for a whole day and when i start the phone, it doesnt start (as if the battery was empty).
The phone is rooted, running 4.0.4
what to do ?
USB or AC??
Details please.

both doesnt work
Well if both don't work it sounds like a hardware problem.
Make sure the pins inside the micro USB port aren't touching the metal casing.
Can't think of anything else.
Hi,
Yesterday my new (~2 months old) Note2 stopped charging. tried 2 different chargers, 2 different cables connected to PC. No reaction (no beeps, no led, battery icon not changed to flash).
Tried removing and putting the battery back in. No change.
On the other hand, when connected to the PC, the PC identified the connection and allowed file transfer. Later the battery died completly. I succeeded in booting to download mode, and again PC identified the USB device.
Switching the phone on with no battery gave no results either (would not turn on).
This leads me to a conclusion that the USB port is probably OK. Could it just be a dead battery? (according to its label, the battery was made on Nov 29th, 2012).
I will be able to switch battery tomorrow with another Note 2. Anything else I can try till then?
Using custom recovery and stock rom.
Thanks in advance,
Idan

Yeah, with or without battery... no reaction from the phone.
Have you tried a lower powered device to see if that works? Some usb ports don't have full power output, as some laptops portray.

I've tried 2 USB ports on a desktop PC. didn't work.
I've connected it without the SIM and SD to an old nokia charger (0.7ma), no sign of a change but after ~ 1 hour I noticed the red led turned on - turning the device on showed 44% charged.
Now I am too puzzled. any ideas?
This is exactly what happened to me. .. it was the motherboard. I brought an external battery charger, charged the battery full so I could use the phone. Then used triangle away and odin to flash stock rom, and sent it in for warranty service. This seems to be becoming a common fault with the note 2 now....ive seen a few thread recently.

Hey there, my sgn2 n7100 had the same problem before, I tried everything, even disassembled the phone apart, but it was still won't turn on or charge, won't be recognized by pc or Mac. One day when I repaired my mom's iPhone 4 touch screen, I found out that the USB port was so dusty. I thought may be it's all because the USB port was dusty then I picked up my sgn2 and used a soft tooth brush with a little pure alcohol to clean every corner of the USB port. Guess what? After 15 minutes I connected my phone with the USB wall charger, my sgn2 just started to charge again. Trust me guys, try to use a soft brush to clean the USB port before you give your phone to the repair store or somewhere else. Good luck!! Hope it helps.
Same here, i manage to purchase note 2 for 300 euros! And when I put it to charge nothing!I went to download mode and then turn it on normal and its charging! Also happend the same with my s3 so eighter its a charging problems or seems to be one software issues
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
@scufutz I could guarantee the symptoms described by the OP is NOT software issue, as I have an N7100 with same problem and I managed to flash new kernel and still it does not charge even powered off. Download mode connects perfect.
I'll check if this cleaning method, or if its a circuit prob.
Alright, I'll try to be as brief but detailed as I can.
I just got my note II 3 days ago. I used what little charge it had out of the box until it died, and plugged it into my computer to charge it overnight.
I woke up and it was fully charged. I used all of the battery and plugged it in to charge the next night as well. only this time, I woke up to find it hadn't charged a bit.
I tried to plug it in to a different charger, and I saw no charging icon. I rebooted the phone, and I got the charging logo. it only charged for about 10 minutes before it stopped charging. I tried to reboot it again and got the same issue. so I spent a while trying different chargers and cables until it was totally dead.
Now, when I plug it in I get a gray battery icon with a loading circle in the middle, and then it goes away. I tried leaving it for several hours like that, but it didn't charge at all.
I read on several sites, including this one I think, that it might be a software issue. I tried flashing to a stock recovery rom with Odin but that didn't do any good.
the weird thing is, I can get into the recovery menu, and let it sit there for hours, so the phone IS receiving power from the charger. it just wont charge!
I took apart the phone to check out the solder on the connector, everything looks perfect. I even sprayed it out with electronics cleaner spray.
I'm not sure what else I can do besides get a new battery, but I mean, this one is brand freakin' new!
What exactly does this battery icon mean? I can't find any info on it or anything.
btw, I still can boot into android, but it instantly dies.
thanks for any help!
I had the same issue about a month after I got my note II. I ended up having to take it back to the sprint store. They ordered a new one for me and I swapped it out once it arrived. It didn't cost a thing and I had a backup phone to use while my phone was dead. Check with your local store and see what they can do for you.
I bought my phone from ebay (new) so I dont think that will work : (
some updated info though, I charged the batter using a friends note 2, and it charged fine. I stuck it in my note 2 and plugged in the charger.
it says its charging on my phone. I get the charging symbol and everything, but it just doesn't charge. I'm really starting to think this IS a software issue. maybe I should try a custom rom.
Factory reset could help.

I tired that but it didn't help. : (
Charging the phone on the usb from the computer is not the best as the battery is a beast..... there is a reason the stock wsll chsrger is 2 amps .... most computer usb are maybe 1/4 that so that is probably your issue....
Thanks

Like I said, I have tried many chargers. my Asus motherboard has a header for a 2 amp usb port for charging devices. that doesnt work either.
I have tried my friends note 2 charger and that doesn't work. my battery charges fine in his phone.
my port is working fine for data transfer. my phone shows up in odin as well.

Note that at stock the phone kernel is not written to make actual use of a 2A Usb line. IIRC stock kernel limits to sub 1A.

I have exactly the same problem: phone starts loading..I see a grey battery icon with a loading circle, then just for 2-3 seconds the green icon
and finally it stops. I have tried everything..differents charger, computer, and have seen posts with people with that problem but noone says how it finally was solved. Any help?
Same here
I have Gummy ROM 4.4.4 installed everything works fine except charging the phone while powered off results in the grey battery icon freeze
The other day I noticed my S3 was not charging correctly.
When I plugged it in it would make all the correct noises and signs, but the battery was dropping.
Changed out the charger, still the same thing.
Changed out the cable...still no go.
Finally I turned it off, removed the cover and battery, placed it back and and it charged just fine when powered down.
Proceed to the next day and it's still doing the same thing.
So once again I power it down, plug it and let it charge.
I get up this morning and notice that it did not charge, no red led or charging screen was active either.
So now I have nothing.
It will not turn on. The only thing it does is show me a red led when I plug it in, but goes no further.
Nothing major has been done recently.
I do have a stock rom that's been rooted and flashed onto it via Odin, but I did that months ago when JB came out for TMo.
Any ideas or am I SOL?
I think I'm also out of luck with the warranty as it's rooted, and it once took a drop and hit a corner (the one time I took it out of the case!)
I would try another battery.

I should have access to one in a few hours.
Anyone know if S3 batteries are known for going bad?

Okay so luckily my S3 isn't dead or bricked.
However, it will no longer charge batteries.
It reports that it's plugged in and charging, but if anything it's actually discharging quicker.
I swapped out batteries and it turns back on, but will not charge.
Other S3 will charge my battery no issue though, so that's not it.
I have tried 4 different chargers and 5 different cables.
All produce the same result.
I don't know if the S3 is compatible with them, but I've tried two current monitors.
One reports no amperage going into the phone, the other will show a -5mah load when charging.
I cleaned out the bottom connector with some contact cleaner, still no go.
Since the phone will also die while off, I feel it's not an Android issue.

So I flashed the latest 4.1.2 JB with Odin (stock but already rooted via root66 rom)
Still nothing, battery does not charge when plugged in.
When I was booting into download mode, it would keep restarting when it was plugged in.
I had to boot into download mode, then plug in the usb (to my laptop)
This really sucks. I've really had no issues with this phone but this incident is leaving a bad taste in my mouth Samsung. :crying:

Just so you know, when it is plugged in, it will not power on into system, recovery or download mode. That is normal. As for it not charging, All I can guess is either a shorted or broken pin inside the phones usb port. If this is the case, and you dont have insurance for it, you may need to get a spare battery. Ive seen some that come with a desktop charger where you plug the battery into the charger itself.

I just found it odd I could boot up to the point and it would shut back down, so figured it was worth mentioning.
The outer port is not the issue from what I can see.
For now I ended up buying external batteries I have to swap out,
Really sucks having to swap out a couple a day. My next phone has to have a wireless charger at this point.

You could have gotten a wireless charger for the S3, I had one but ended up selling it because I never really used it.
Sounds like it's the S3 itself. You could order the part online and watch a step by step tutorial on YouTube if you feel confident enough to do it yourself.

If you want wireless charging, there a receiver tag on Amazon that allows you to have QI standard wireless charging.
