Stock dialer wont search contacts - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi.
I come from HTC desire hd and i love my note 2. The only thing i dont like is how the stock dialer behaves. When i thpe to search it only searches the first name rather than the entire contact. In my desire hd the dialer would search all the feilds rather than just the first feild. It is annoying to go to contacts first, search and then dial.
I am not interested in using third party dialers. Can this be achieved on the stock dialer?
Cheers!!

I'm using the stock dialler and i had this issue with a few of my contacts, it turned out that the contacts that i imported from my sim rather than my Google account didn't have their names separated into first and last name fields. after fixing the fields it worked without a hitch

My contacts are fine when it comes to field seperation. All synced with google. If i search in the contacts tab, it searches fine. Its just when i use the dialer to search, the results are not shown. I am sure this problem is universal and not just limited to my device. I have used other dialers from the play store and they search fine, but i want to use the stock dialer only.

HTC Sense, link "phone" button to contacts

Hi guys,
I really hate this T9 dailer thing what you get when you click on the phone shortcut in Sense. Is it possible to link this to contacts or even replace the whole dialer with the Android stock one?
Some of you may ask yourself why I hate it.
Reason 1: you dial people by mistake like all the time
Reason 2: you are unable to hide Facebook contacts
Reason 3: the call list is integrated and I normally need longer to find a contact I called before because he's not where you look for him.

Dialer question

My contact names do not appear when I initially navigate to the dialer. After pressing a few numbers and deleting, my contacts appear. Anyone else experience this? It is kind of annoying.

I just got the Inc2 yesterday, and noticed this same problem. rather annoying. I, too, am looking for a solution to this, other than just going through contacts.
I had an Eris before this and kept the sense dialer because I liked it so much. It is very easy to find contacts, just wished they hadn't changed it in the fact that you now have to dial a number and press delete in order for names to begin to appear? I am not quite sure how this doesn't annoy absolutely everyone!?!?

My contacts are there as soon as I open the dialer... However I have noticed that if I don't add the area code first it doesn't register as the contacts number and that is annoying
I am having the same issue as the OP.
I like the stock dialer and really don't want to switch.
Anybody made a call or sent an email to VZ or HTC?

Anyway to erase frequently called/contacted from phone/people apps

Haven't found a way to remove frequently called or contacted from the phone or people app. Kinda sux seeing my ex's info right there every single time. Temps me to text or call. And yes drunk texts apply here so it'd b nice to be able to remove these on demand lol
Anyone know how?

Press the menu button and then clear call log.
Not the call log. The frequently contacted. Its the last column in each app, phone app and people app. designated with a star icon at the top of the people app

Oh sorry. I misunderstood you. You could try clearing data in the contacts app. Not contact storage.
I haven't tried it so I can't confirm. That's my only educated guess.

Hold down on contacted and then hit the 3 dot thing and tap remove from log. To remove favorites you gotta log in and click on contact and then find the find the setting to remove starred contacts but it didnt update on phone. I dont know how to proceed with that part.

Clearing data in contacts storage works on mine, and it must on yours as well.
Only thing I can think of if that doesn't work, is if you store your contacts on phone or sim. But can't understand why you would do that.

How can this data be cleared? I have been trying to find a way to clear the frequently called list for weeks since ICS came out!!
Anyone thought about checking in their Gmail account online to see if Google has said contact(s) flagged as frequently contacted?

Sadly that clears even the call log. I want to clear the frequently called list or some specific numbers from that list but maintain my history.
I don't mind the frequently called list to be hidden since I can manually clear the history. Frequently called list however does not allow deleting some numbers.

This really is annoying.
you could just install exdialer from the market. you can delete individually calls from call history (incoming/outgoing/missed). and you get T9 dialing with it as well as a bunch of other useful stuff missing from the stock dialer.
doesn't consume much resources, very fast, and you can have it look almost exactly like stock dialer with its ICS theme.
If you want to have the same stock dialer icon you can use desktop visualizer (free) and link it to the stock dialer icon.

JB facebook sync workaround

Okay this isnt a complete solution for jb but if you use Facebook for alot of your numbers then this will work for you. Unfortunately for now haxsync doesn't sync numbers just pics, statuses, etc etc so what i did was use an app called super backup: sms and contacts and backup contacts in an ics rom that supports fb sync then flash the jb rom and restore contacts with the same app. You should have them all and it actually makes them into regular contacts so you dont have to use fb anymore for them. If you want hq pics then use haxsync or any of the other fb picture sync apps

Np and hey you can just backup your current setup and then flash an ics rom that has fb sync and go back to the backup. Itll take maybe 30mins max but its worth it if you need the contacts like i do

I might just use my old sgs2. Sync the contacts there and copy over to my nexus

Another workaround:
I was going to start a new thread on this, but since it's my first post I feared getting flamed..
So, here's the best workaround that I've come across for phone number syncing for Facebook on Jelly Bean..
1. Go ahead and sync your facebook contacts by clearing the Facebook app cache and adding your Facebook account to your phone. It will ask you to sign in, and then it will sync contacts without phone numbers.
2. As you try to dial someone's number and you realize that it's on Facebook instead of Google, open up the Facebook app and search for that contact by clicking the "three horizontal line" icon on the top left.
3. The contact will have a phone icon next to their name if they have their phone number stored on Facebook. Go ahead and click the phone and it will bring their number up in the dialer.
4. On the bottom right of your dialer, click the "three dot" icon and select "add to contacts". You know what to do from there.
It's not the best solution, but it's the best i've seen so far. You won't have all of your contacts at once, but you can search for the ones that you know right off the bat, and then search for them as needed later on.
Thats a really long process lol i have over 300 friends so that would take forever. My process saves you alot of time and has the added benefit of turning the fb contacts into regular Google contacts.
Also haxsunc doesn't sync numbers so alone it was useless to me lol

All of your facebook contacts can be dialed directly from Facebook. So just keep them on the facebook app until you need to dial a specific Facebook contact, and then take the extra 2 seconds and save it to Google contacts before you dial it.
Plus, I'm sure everyone doesn't need that weird kid from science class from the 7th grade's phone number. This way you can pick and choose who to add as you need it.
Even if there is eventually a way to sync every facebook contact, i much prefer this method.
Thank you for the tip

Adding Appointments Using S-Voice

I need your help! Can someone please try to add a new appointment using s-voice.
My device is not allowing me to schedule new appointments using s-voice? I can edit or delete appointments, create tasks, set alarms, open applications, answer or decline incoming calls or even call & text contacts. I really like s-voice and use it regularly. However, the only command it won't perform is to add new appointments to the calendar. What I've done so far:
Changed and adjusted calendar settings and compared mine to other users/friends were the application does work.
Contacted Samsung who had me perform a soft reset by removing the battery and restarting the phone
Contacted Samsung who had me perform a hard reset and swipe the phone clean and start from scratch
Contacted Sprint who had me do another soft and hard reset.
Contacted Sprint who sent me a brand new replacement device
Contacted Sprint who had me again do a soft and hard reset.
Contacted Sprint who asked me to take the device into a corporate store tomorrow hoping someone there can diagnose the problem
None of these options have worked, and I still cannot add new appointments using s-voice.
Here is screen shot with the message I get when trying to add an appointment. Please help!

Thank you for responding. Do you use Google Now to add appointments? Can you screen shot this for me to see how you're doing so. I use Google Now for voice search of Internet information, but adding, editing, or deleting calendar items I was not aware Google Now had this capability?

Well, after spending up to 45 minutes at the Sprint store today I went away with a device that is still incapable of adding appointments to the calendar using s voice
However, once again Sprint didn't disappoint and agreed to send me now my third device. I should get it in two or three days and hopefully this one is the charm. Thank you to everyone who has responded, and done your best to assist me.
The issue has everyone at Sprint and Samsung puzzled, but other than the minor inconvenience of taking the old device to the post office to ship back, I'll keep pushing until I get a device that works.

With a special thanks to a new friend over at Android Central the problem has been found and corrected.
I had to create a new primary gmail account, and just like that I can now save appointments to the calendar. It appears the gmail account I always used as my primary account must have been corrupted in some way (I'm not sure how). Therefore, no matter how many phones Sprint sent me the result would be the same, because I always would use that Gmail address to set up the phone.
I am now using the new gmail account I created as my primary account, and the other one as the secondary.
Since all my applications, YouTube, and everything else is associated with the old account I now need to go through the really laborious task of redownloading my apps under the new account.
I feel bad about having Sprint send me another phone so I will contact them and cancel the replacement. Now I understand why the issue was unique to me, and followed me no matter which phone I used. Thank you all for your help! A special thanks to my new friend

What I've experienced and read is that S-Voice will save the appointment only to your local "my calendar." Google Now will save to your default Google calendar

Hey guys I've been following a few forums on this. It just doesnt make sense.
Anyways, I don't have a solution but I've discovered something that might help solve this from another angle.
S-planner seems to use the last calendar you created an event for. S-voice follows suit... so I'm able to get it to work with my primary personal gmail calendar and my primary google business apps calendar by temp creating an event in s-planner for one of them.
My problem is that I created an secondary calendar with my personal gmail account and share it with my wife as the family calendar. If I do the same in s-planner then try a new event with s-voice it fails.
I hope that gives you a new angle and maybe you can help me bc id really like the family calendar as the default..
Cheers!
