I just got an Anker Astro 3E that should be able to charge our tablet up to full. The issue is that apparently Samsung devices check for Samsung approved chargers using pin voltages. This battery does not have those specific voltages so instead of charging I get a red X on my battery. Samsung Tab 10.1 users have a flashing solution from what I have read. Is there an application to disable the check or can a dev look into bypassing that?

The kernel was built by a Tab 10.1 dev known as Pershoot. I am in the process of contacting him and hopefully we can bring USB charging functionality to the Note 10.1 soon.

The adapters to enable charging fro many source have been available for a long time and at low cost.
I know the rated current N8000 needs to get from any adapter must be not less than 2000 mA. I don't think your charging adaptor or device offers such a feature: there are very few adaptors passing the Samsung muster. They must be specifically designed for Galaxy Tab; check yours out.
That's why a desktop PC can't charge your N8000, if you plug it to an USB port, the red X pops up right away.

My battery is rated for 3A of current. Samsung's proprietary voltage check doesn't allow it to work.

Exactly. Whatever Amperage it provides, unless it is made specifically for Samsung tablet, it will not charge it without the adapter I am talking about. Links to those have been posted multiple times, do a search on eBay.
I use one of these with its own Samsung adaptor plug and it charges the tablet and gives the correct battery icon - http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000P13V1E

Looking at the same battery pack. Did you get it to work then and if so did you need a special cable? Not finding this voltage adapter that is referenced higher. Thanks!

Thanks, unfortunately I'd need a EU seller.
I found the PWR+ usb filter on eBay but shipping costs to where I live quadruple the price and I'm not desperate enough to pay 15 euro for a usb plug wth two resistors... yet. Someone posted a Pisen adapter in another thread that does the same, looking for this one now.

I opted for the 3E anyway because it's more compact and lightweight. With one of these usb filter plug things it should work no problem. But thanks for pointing this out!

Nope. And ive looked. Too many fakes anyway and low quality chargers. I use my moto, n1 and an atnt charger for my a/c chargers. And a dual port sony a/c usb charger.
...
I bought one from Amazon just last week. It matches 100%.
The picture on the amazon link shows the micro end of the usb to be off center. The cable I received is identical to the one from Samsung, down to the texture of the cable.

The output is 1.5A which charges very fast. I'm satisfied with it!
I just bought this one but haven't received it yet. It looks identical, though apparently it's for the Galaxy Note. Same voltage/amperage though, so I bet its exactly the same thing.

Actually, I've tried one of my micro USB charger with 2A output.
GN just wont charge on this charger.
But GN charges well with my Nokia 1.2A and Sony 1.5A charger.

They'll just charge at different rates, and no standardized charger will be too much amperage for your phone.

All USB charges @ 5Vdc
Amp only dictate how much current can be pushed to the device. I believe ours max @ 1000ma or 1a. Anything more and the phone will just not utilize the extra current. As your phone gets closer to being fully charged, it draws less current anyway.

I was looking for a charging stand so I can watch my Slingbox while my Note charges and found the Myrin Sync & Charge Dock on Ebay. It folds for portability and can be used either to charge or just support the Note. Because it has no sides, it can work with any Sammy Tab that has the 30 pin connector (nice as I have 3 around the house) and I don't have to remove the case to charge.
Nice find.

It comes with a USB cable but not the charging block. You could use your original cable as well it just slots into the base as shown in the photo.

No external battery pack will work unless it is dedicated for Samsung tablets because of the different pin configuration.
Just buy the adapter that enables any device to charge the tablet ($2) and buy any external battery apck you like.

Hold up. Does this mean that normal USB ports won't charge samsung devices?
I've been wondering if my generic travel 4port usb hub/charger is underpowered with 2A. But is it actually the pun configuration?
If it is the output, how many Amps does the note 10.1 require? I can only find 2.1A power packs.
But apparently you guys are succesfully using 2A and 2.1A packs?

5V 2A. From the original adapter/ charger
Regular USB = 5V 0.5A i.e. the USB carries about 1/4 the current as teh genuine adapter.
Give this adapter a try. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2088369
I'm also using the New Trent 11k battery packs and they work great with the adapter.
I got this for Christmas (black friday week deal for like $35). Add the Samsung cord, plug it into the 2A port and charge away. Works very well so far.

IIRC the stock wall charger is rated at 1.8Ah. But, what is the phone's actual draw? Does it ever get up there near 1.8mAh?
I'm just trying to figure out if a car charger with "only 1000mA" will be sufficient. I'm guessing that the OEM wall charger is rated well above whatever the phone might ask for, but as to how much, I don't know.
I'm actually looking at these two right now as they both seem to give a pretty high output for both Android and Apple devices.

My experience with other phones is that the phone draws exactly what the stock charger gives it. I'd imagine it's the same with this one. 3140mah is a lot of battery to charge.

I'd agree. I charged it the first couple days using the OGP wall charger and USB cable from my Nexus 4. It took all night. Switched the cable with the one in the box, and it charges in like an hour!
I have a 2.1a car charger, and the OGPro charges in exactly the same amount of time as the stock wall charger.
Oddly, it charges slower from my 2a Note II charger.

Im looking at all of the chargers from Anker on Amazon. It seems they have the best positive reviews of anything I've seen. Although the 3.6 watt (white unit with either 2 usb ports or one port and a micro usb cable) unit is newer than the 3.1 (black heavy duty), the black unit can give the full 3.1 watts to either port or split it amongst the two ports. And according to Anker, either port will work for Apple or android. They suggested i get the newer (white) unit, but i want to have the full 3.1 watts available to a single port for future h higher powered devices.
I'll have to check those out. I've been looking at this one, which has good reviews on it.

My concern with that one is that it gives a total of 2.1A. So if you charge your OGP using one usb port, there's only 0.3A left for the other port. The disclaimer at the end of the description says that if you are charging an iPad to not use the second port. I'm guessing that warning would also apply too us with the high draw OGP. It also states that the blue light gets even brighter in the dark. You might need to cover the led if it's too bright, but that's a personal taste thing, and it might not actually be that intrusive. Lastly, do you have enough room in your vehicle to rest both your phone, and the head of the charging device? I have a dual outlet 12v supplier in my car, but i bought one that has no cord. The two outlets are rigidly mounted right at the end of the cigarette lighter plug.
I bought a Griffin Powerjolt single USB at Walmart. It only charges at full speed using the OGPro's stock cable. Any other cable is slower, and the cable from my old S2 gives me a "Slow Charging" notification.
Anyway, this charger is just a stop-gap. I'm going to be hard wiring two USB plugs into my truck's 12v system (with some 5v regulators and an Add-a-Circuit).
I was looking at the 3.6A charger, here's the link on amazon.
As I expected, one port is for Apple and one for Android. This is very irritating because I need to charge my OGP while my fiance charges her OG at the same time on trips.
Can our OGP charge at full speed on the Apple port?
Edit: I just read that the kernal in Android 4.2 fixes this issue so we can charge in any USB charger, including apple chargers. I'm guessing LG devices still on 4.1 won't benefit from this update.
Shouldn't going to Settings > PC Connection > USB Connection Type and then setting it to "Charge only" force the device to see any cable as a charge only cable thus making it charge faster?

As per Anker, the Apple port will charge Android at full speed. I have not verified this myself as I have not gotten mine yet, but that's what I'm told, and expect. I'm waiting for their wall charger to come back in stock as the shipping will be free if l order both.
