So I was trying to play with kitchen and flashed a ROM I made with it to my phone. To say I was unsuccessful would be an understatement. After much tinkering I am finally able to boot the phone up and get it running in both Recovery and Download modes also. The problem now is that I lost most of the contents of my EFS folder so it shows no IMEI or baseband. I have tried flashing modems and restored to stock with ODIN with no luck. Is there a way to get a copy of someone elses /EFS and edit it with my information? Thanks for any help!
I could send you a copy of mine. But idthink it works like that. If someone can confirm all efs are same on every phone would gladly help
You do understand that he can inject your imei by doing thay

In the GS3 sections there are tutorials for how to restore your imei. Some of the dialing codes are probably different but you should be able to use that to restore your imei. Would be worth a try

I suggest you try to repartition with Odin, and inject your IMEI info, if retrievable, into a donor EFS. No clue if it'd work, though.

You cannot flash via Odin or via recovery? Is the device rooted (check for supersu in the app-drawer)?
You can always flash via Odin IMHO with your computer. There are also prerooted firmwares available here. Just check the forum.
I can flash via Odin and recovery and all proces is ok but when phone booting I dont have network and I check with some app from play store phone unlocked?
You must have broken efs
Anyway root your device and make efs backup. (read post #4 in first line on my signature)
It will be better if you make nandroid backup too on ext sd card.
Then you can flash any stock rom, in case you get issue then restore efs Or nandroid.
PS : such issue happens once in while, nothing to worry, just keep efs backup always and flash rom, once you are on xda, you can't keep yourself away from flashing )

Hey all,
I know this has been covered a lot of times before so please don't slate me for this post.
I had a generic IMEI 0049 after flashing a rom recently, after days of trying to fix it I got it sorted and back to the original IMEI I had when I bought the phone (factory image installed and a bit of teminal work on permissions.).
The only thing now is any time I flash any rom again the generic 0049 IMEI comes back again and using the fix I applied originally does not work anymore. Does anyone know why? I never thought that flashing a rom could change the IMEI.
Anyway I know the legalities of IMEI and XDA's policy on changing IMEI numbers etc but all I did was restore the IMEI that somehow got corrupted recently on my purchased Galaxy Nexus.
Basically if anyone has any views on why the IMEI changes each time I flash a rom it would be good to hear from you.
Thanks,
J

No just a GSM Europe one. Such a weird problem. I ended up just going back to stock, rooting and then applying the change again so my IMEI is the one it is supposed to be. I am sick because I have been flashing roms for years without issues.
The only thing I did do recently and I think this is where my IMEI problems started was installing a developer preview of Ubuntu OS. I ran it for an hour or two then installed Liquidsmooth rom.
For now I have to just stay rooted with stock because I will need the IMEI to be correct.
Does the imei number change if you just install twrp if it doesn't backup or stock uncorrupted efs and then restore it after flashing a new ROM

Hey thanks for that. I am awaiting an S4 and my GNEX is going to the missus so I am just going to leave it fully stock with the correct IMEI so I can use the NAC given to me by Vodafone. Thanks for your responses anyway
Hey everybody, my supervisor was installing a custom ROM (IIRC cyanogenmod) when something happend and he lost his IMEI and IMEI SV number making the phone unsuable.
I believe he didn't backup the EFS folder and lost the contents which included the IMEI.
Is there any way I can fix this phone and get it back up and running?
I've found another thread which refered to re-programming the IMEI with some expensive device.

U could JTAG it, or try hemidell, u might be able to rewrite a new imei number, if not idk, how did he lose that? Flashing a ROM shouldn't have erased his imei ?

What he flashed to/what he did etc...I have no idea. I have the phone with me and I'm trying to start fresh and get it to work. I have no idea what he did so I'm just trying to start at the begining and learn myself to see if I can correct the problem.
All I know is that when I check the IMEI on the phone info, it says 0 and IMEI SV says 0 also
so there is successfully a ROM installed right now correct ? go into about phone and check what it is running and what kernel what baseband the whole nine bro gimme something else to work with other than being blind trying to help bro lol . are you familiar with any rooting or odin flashing at all ?

It currently has a ROM installed, the phone functions but has no IMEI at all listed in the ABOUT PHONE section. I will get that info later today after work, thank you very much!
I myself have a Galaxy Nexus which I flashed from ICS to Jelly bean and used the ICS radio file rather then the JB one. I can follow instructions but I am new to android. I'm a Blackberry guy from the past and work with blackberries in a corporate enviroment
lol i know it has a ROM installed but when you go into about phone it tells you what your running ?? and no problem man
Honestly, the only way I could think of where he lost the IMEI of the device is if a nandroid backup was created lacking the EFS partition and was restored or the ROM didn't create an EFS while flashing. I've heard of some ROMs, mere flashing of updates or a clean install, mess with the radio/baseband and leave the phone without one, rendering it unusable when it comes to connecting to a cellular network until you flash a radio but not something like this where the IMEI is borked and lost.

i want to go back to stock so bed but i cant trying everyday LOL
help if you know how to do it...
Only way to go back is to have previously backed up your efs partition, while you were on your stock rom. Then once you downgrade to older version modem/rom simply restore your efs.

Indeed flashing older modem (and so ROM) causing this.
I replied on other thread(my prerooted)
Flashing latest ME6/MF2/MG1 should solve this.
OR simply you can flash modem, you can find modem on my All in one thread(look my signature) post #6
And don't flash 4.1.1 , it can brick device.

Please stop creating duplicate threads for the same issue. In any case, changing your IMEI is a banned topic on XDA as its illegal in most countries,
You should have taken a backup of your efs partition before you started messing around (this is in all the guides). If you didn't then that's your fault and your loss.

Had the same problem as you did, I always made backups and indeed a tar.gz backup, Unpack the backup and copy it to the efs folder(Root), also make a backup of the current efs folder so you can't sink further. You'll need root explorer for this with read/write.
I tried..still the same..
I used root explorer and copy to the efs folder and then restart..
Latest version of omega rom? Did you update modem or Flash a kernel?
Please post screenshots of your "about device" page.
Most likely you simply have a kernel/modem combination which is incompatible. Should be easy enough to fix if we can get you back to a matching configuration.

Heres one solution to the imei problem on n7100. When you flash a new rom your efs containing imei wifi bluetooth etc gets corrupted/repartitioned this is apparently a fix by flashing the modem posted and a compatible kernel. I will warn you though another guy had the same problem and every guude tutorials we followed did not work and his n7100 was left a brick. In the end he used triangle away flashed a stock rom and unrooted and it had to be sent back to service centre..

You need to flash the modem in the link via odin.. im not sure if you then manually need to extract your backup of efs back to root. You also need an upto date kernel. Im not sure which but it needs to be a recent one..

You need to do things in this order:
1. Flash a stock firmware older than DME6
2. Root again using cf-autoroot or similar
3. Use an app such as root Explorer to copy from your efs backup into the /efs folder on your phone.
I've done this at least 3 times now as I often test new roms and the imei is always messed up until after I restore the efs backup I've had in dropbox since the very day I purchased this phone.
I broke my s3 by failing to back up efs and I'd never make that mistake again.
