[Guide] Install custom ROM into Stock Slot for Razr M.. - Droid RAZR M General

Safetrap 3.05 is awesome and hashcode will release a new version 3.1 with flashing to Stock ROM soon for Razr M, this is a very important update since the complicity of Additional slot and Image files would eat up space for apps, most the apps will be installed into Image drive, but some of them, ( like games, heavy apps which requires additional data ) are not able to be installed since doesn't have enough space in Image as well as outside. So this is my trick to Flash Custom ROM directly to Stock slot. even CM10, BHD, and so on...
Step 1: Use stock ROM to install Safetrap as normal.
Step 2: Go to safestrap, create 1Gb drive and install your favourite ROM, and flash all additional package you like (Beat, Dolby, GAPP etc... )
Step 3: Boot into that ROM and make changes as you want
Step 4: Make a backup of that ROM
Step 5: Change Boot option to Stock
Step 6: RESTORE ( not Install since Install function was not invented yet on Safetrap 3.05) and restore your backup directly to stock ROM
Step 7: Install Safetrap again
Step 8: PROFIT
I haven't neither tested with all ROM nor running through a day, but it's works for now with BHD ROM. This can be awesome method before new Safetrap released.
Hope u enjoy it.
Dave

Thanks much !! Confirmed on BDH v2

Help please
So I've installed Safestrap 3.0, have downloaded simplex rom. I created a ROM slot 2GB slot. When I go to install the ROM it merely opens the folder rather than prompting the install. Any idea as to what is going wrong?

I would use the exact version as OP.
Did you use 3.0.5 ?

yes. 3.05 ... Running so good with outstanding battery life now..

So u flashed Slot 2 with Custom rom, made a back up of it.
Then Restored Slot 1 with back up of Slot 2.
Making the phone run Custom Rom in Slot 1
The question is Is slot 2 still there ?
And how do you get it back to stock if messing up ? Do you just RSD it back to Stock ?

No you delete slot 2 before restore ( u already have the backup in the sd card ) .. if you messing up, you can always use fastboot RSD to reinstall stock rom. Easy.

this is really helpful for people that install a lot of apps.

I used RSD Lite to flash the stock ROM (Jellybean); however, after the phone rebooted, it has been stuck at the glowing red eye screen. I will try fastbooting and flashing the ICS stock ROM instead, and then updating the OS, but does anyone know why this occurs? I did try to fastboot and re-flash the JB 2x with the same result.

I know I'm 2 1/2 months late to this party, but I've had the same issue. Trying to restore CM10 to my stock slot from slot 1, and I get to the red eye and it hangs.
To restore to working order, had to go into quick boot and flash ICS stock and then JB stock (going straight to JB stock left it hanging at red eye again). Then restored my backup to slot 1 to get back to where I started.
Anybody know how to get around this? Thanks.

If I restore CM10 on stock slot, then activate stock slot, it loops on the safe strap screen.
Also note that you cannot get into recovery (or boot into any other slot) until you RSD back to stock.

HOWTO: Flash back to GB after ICS Update on the Captivate Glide

Howto: Flash back to GB after ICS Update on the Captivate Glide
Needed Files:
Clockworkmod Recovery (CWMR): ---TOUCH--- or ---NON-TOUCH---
Odin: ---DOWNLOAD HERE---
CWMR Flashable GB Rom: ---INCEPTION ROM---
Samsung Stock Rom: ---I927UCKL1--- or ---I927UCKI3---
NOTE: If you just want to go back to GB and are happy with just the Inception rom, only download cwmr, odin, and the inception rom, otherwise, download all files.
INSTALL CWMR
first you will need to install CWMR onto your phone. to do this you need to connect your phone into download mode (power on + hold volume up, and follow prompts) via usb, start up odin, make sure only reboot is checked (uncheck F. Reset Time) and click PDA. select the unzipped cwmr (.md5 file) file you downloaded and then click start.
Congratulations, your phone now has clockwork mod recovery installed!!!
INSTALL INCEPTION ROM
the next step in the downgrade process is to install the inception rom. to do this, copy over the inception rom zip you your phones internal memory (not the external microsd) and boot into recovery (power on + hold volume down). as a precaution make a backup then do a wipe/factory reset, wipe cache, go to mounts and storage and format system (for good measure). then go back to the main menu, then install zip from sdcard, then find the zip you put on your sdcard. scroll down to yes and let the magic happen.
Congratulations, you now have the inception rom installed on your phone.
Now you can stop here, but if you want to go back to pure stock so that you can get the OTA/KIES updates again go on to the next step.
INSTALL STOCK ROM
the final and optional step is to install the stock rom back onto the phone. to do this put your phone back into download mode, fire up odin, make sure only reboot is checked. then select PDA and select the stock firmware (unzipped), this will be a .md5 file. click start in odin, and let it do its thing. it will wipe and load the stock rom back on your phone and you will be back to pure ATT stock rom goodness...
Hope this helps those out that are having trouble going to back to gingerbread

whats the difference between:
I927UCKL1 and I927UCKI3 ?
I put on I927UCKI3 and send the phone to my mom, when she put in her SIM card the voice and text work fine, but she is not seeing data.
Is this the software or maybe she needs a new SIM card or hopefully the phone isnt busted. Any ideas?
I927UCKI3 = 2.3.5
I927UCKL1 = 2.3.6
is you mother on AT&T? if not, you would have to enter the correct APN info...
I see, thanks for that!
I sent her into the ATT store and all they had to do was "turn on" the 3G for her and everything is fine now. She doesn't know the first thing about gingerbread or ICS so I just wanted to get her off the problematic ICS build and back onto gingerbread where she can do her simple emailing and web browsing. Should I upgrade her to 2.3.6 or do you think 2.3.5 is perfectly fine and stable for "non-power users"? Thanks again for all the help!

the main reason to have 2.3.6 is if you want to have video chat with google talk or google+ hangouts. 2.3.5 doesnt let you from what i remember.
thanks a lot for this downgrade guide, didn't know downgrading needs GB kernel..
But does anybody know where we can get "real" stock rom? Mine is i927R unlocked. I downloaded GB stock from sammobile but it turns out to be rooted & has some Rogers apps preinstalled. Same thing I got with AT&T version.
Before upgrading to ICS, my stock was really clean, well just Rogers logo at start up, but the rest is just standard samsung's android thing..
Is this some kind of differences between locked & unlocked i927R?
Unlocked Captivate Glide ICS
if i am unloked i can still do this?? or my phone will be locked again?
I did this exactly, but when trying to flash back to stock, my phone still fails when trying to mount /preload (trying to update application)
Same here. I used inception rom couple of days, after that i tried downgrade to stock and it fails when trying to mount /preload (trying to update application). How to resolve it?
Sorry to bump an old thread, but whats the difference between the Inception ROM and the stock 2.3.6 ROM? I had 2.3.6 for about a year and I loved it before someone broke my phone. I bought a new Glide but it came with 4.0.4, and I hate it more every day. I'd like to downgrade but I'm concerned with the guys above me who said they had problems loading the stock 2.3.6 ROM. What are the main differences in case it doesnt work, or is there a way to fix it?
Please, any help would be appreciated. Much thanks

Yes. You can use any CWM flashable rom to revert back to GB and then fash Odin to get to stock. If you don't, you will hang at the boot screen.
Kudos for searching!
If you have issues getting your hands on a GB rom sent me a PM i can google drive it to you.
many thanks: with the custom and stock roms I have problems. and when I don't have problems they drain the battery

[Q] How to go from 4.0.3 Jedi Mind Trick to Cyanogenmod 10.0.0 Stable Release

Hello all just bought a new Samsung Galaxy SII from craigslist already rooted with 4.0.3 Jedi Mind Trick. After reading for what seems 4-5 hours i have been trying to put together how to properly without bricking switching it to 10.0.0 Stable as i use to use Cyanogenmod 2-3 years ago on my devices. Seem alot of things have changed and there is a cluster**** of stuff out there now. If you could direct me to a how to or show me how to do it i would greatly appreciate it!
Thanks all!
Assuming you have nothing personal to back up that you can't just download from google play or your google account again: download cyanogen 10 and it's gapps. reboot into recovery mode. factory reset, wipe data, wipe system, wipe cache, wipe dalvik. pick the install zip from sd card or so option, browse to cyanogen, then install gapps the same way. wipe dalvik again and reboot.
I was thinking of doing this myself JMT to CM10. I didn't think there was anything special to do same as flashing from any other ROM to CM10. If there is a special requirement I would think they'd post in in with the ROM post information.

honestly - i backed up everything to my external and then formatted the internal when i went from TW to AOSP for the last time. well worth it. nice folder clean up and then you can just manually take all the stuff you want back.
and you should just be able to odin on cwm or twrp - then flash the rom of your choice.

If you get stuck at the boot logo, it's called a soft brick. You don't have to use ODIN or go back to ICS. Just make sure the ROM zip you downloaded isn't corrupt (check the size/m5d if possible), wipe everything, and reboot into recovery to try installing again.

You won't fail. Follow the guidelines step by step. Print it out, make notes. Anything. Read. The step by step guide works... that'll get you with cwm. Then, you can flash the zip you will put on your phone... either a SU zip or just a rooted ROM. Follow flashing instructions.
Just realized - you'll be way better off if, once you have cwm on, just format the internal ONCE YOU HAVE A ROM ON AN EXTERNAL SD CARD. then flash CM10. THEN you'll have a fresh AOSP install.

Update your recovery to twrp or cwm 6+ and don't use dark side scripts
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989 using Tapatalk 2
Please excuse my harshness but this is not as hard as many make it seem. I would say if it takes you more than a couple attempts maybe it is just not for you. I only say this because I would hate to see you mess up your phone. Now if you think a bootloop is a brick then we need to do things at a slower pace with you.
If you already have your phone rooted then
1.download goomanager from the playstore and then
2.open it up and allow it to grant permission from CM
3.hit menu button while goo manager is open
4.click on install OpenRecoveryScript
5.let it do its thing
6.reboot into your new TWRP recovery
7.Wipe/Data Factory Reset
8.Flash Rom
9.Flash Gapps
10.Reboot
You can throw in a backup of files somewhere in there if you like.... Your choice

I had a bootloop when using CWM v6.0.1.5. So a friend of mine told me he had success with CWM v6.0.1.5 Touch. So I switched to the touch recovery and... SUCCESS.
Here's the link to CWM touch and non-touch:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1893464
A boot loop could mean a bad download or bad flash but it is most definitely NOT a bricked device. All you needed to do was get a fresh download and move it to your SD card by mounting it in recovery. Then, wipe EVERYTHING but the SD. EVERYTHING. Then flash the ROM, Gapps and whatever radio. I go from CM to AOKP to other random TW roms all the time and never have issues.
The 2 best recoveries are twrp or my favorite because I'm used to it is cwm 6.0.1.5. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1844637
Also if your phone boot loops don't freak out' just either reboot to see if that works out first and if not reboot into recovery. Also with these new recoveries do not use dark side scripts.
Factory reset
Format system
Format cache
Format data
Flash ROM
Flash gapps
Reboot and enjoy

Sorry for the necro on the thread, but I didn't want it to be stated I didn't look around some either.
I am going from JMT to CM and want to make sure it's as seamless as possible. I use CWM and usually usually use darkside complete wipes, but I read in a previous post not to use darkside. Is there a reason for this? I can't see why this wouldn't work as it's just a wipe.
Also I use Titanium Backup. Is it possible to backup my apps and data and restore them since its not TW any longer? I want to be able to restore as much of my data as possible and make sure I don't lose it.
P.S. - If thread necroing is not appreciated, I apologize.

What happened?! Help please

I was installing a 4.2 build along with 4.2 gapps.. Something was funky so I wanted to re-do it. When I went to flash the zip from internal sd card, it wasn't there. Nothing is there. All my backups are gone as well. I tried to restore, and it says it can't find any files. I can get into recovery mode, but I have no clue what to do from here?!
Please help!
Thanks

if i remember right 4.2 moved all your files to 0 because of multi-user support thats where all your files are if you can move them back you should be able to get to your backup

not sure exactly have not used 4.2 yet just read up on it do a search in the thread you got the rom in and you will find a answer
I'll try looking. Because I have to restore. None of my stuff from Titanium Backup is there anymore. All my stuff is gone, except pictures, those stayed.
alright good luck

[Q] Not able to De-ROOT S3.

Hey guys, i decided to finally root my s3 today and install a custom OS. All was going fin until i had to install GApps. I installed the wrong version of GApss for my firmware (4.1.2) and got a constant loop of errors such as "the com.google blah blah failed to respond", upon clicking OK on this, i just got the error "Sorry, the setup wizard has crashed" OVER AND OVER again in an infinite loop, making my phone unusable.
I am now currently unsure of how to reset my phone back to factory settings because every guide to do that requires you to actually be able to use the phone, pretty silly IMO in an event like this.I can still access team win recovery.... But thats not really helping me at all.... I tried wiping everything out of pure frustration and i think i just made my situation worse. And no, im a retard and did not create any backups (MFW )
So my phones unaccessable, and wont go past the boot logo for Siyahs kernal? So it is not even showing up as a device on my computer, meaning i cant even put any zips to install though team win recovery.....
Any help is appreciated.

Put it into download mode and flash a stock tar.
But you could easily fix this by wiping everything and reflashing your rom, no need to go back to stock.

If you still have the Rom you flashed, boot into recovery, wipe system and flash your Rom just like you did before... don't flash any gapps, just boot after flashing the Rom... then use the browser that comes with the Rom and download the correct gapps, boot back into recovery and flash correct gapps, problem solved...

I used goo manager to install paranoid android... so i dont have the rom... And like i said i formatted literally everything, including the internal SD card. So how do i go about this through ODIN so i dont have to go buy an SD card...lol. That is what i tried to make clear in my first post..... there is no OS installed anymore. Nothing.
Every "rom" i have downloaded has been a .zip, not .tar.
I am very confused.
bump :S
It's late and I'm already in bed, so I won't be able to post my typical tutorial, but what you'll have to do is download a Rom to your pc, boot your phone into download mode and use adb to push the zip to your internal memory. Then you can flash the Rom zip in recovery mode. That'd be the best way if you want to avoid buying/borrowing a memory card.

[Q] HELP! Can't get out of Custom Recovery

Not sure what happened, but this is what's going' on. I'm working with SM-T210R / updated to the 4.4.2 - Did not like the issues with Custom Recoveries, so I got into TWRP - Restored my stock rom backup and everything restored fine and as expected. I went to Root the device, using RootJunky's TWRP recovery and root on YouTube (which I've done many times and never had an issue - I'm not a noob, but, still have a lot to learn) Anyways - when you go swipe to reboot the system, TWRP asks you about installing Supersu for Root access, and of course, you go with it. Well, since that swipe - it keeps rebooting into TWRP - I cant get to the system. I used Odin to install Philz and same thing, kept rebooting into Philz. I've tried re-restoring my back up and now it wont .... it acts like it is, but then it keeps throwing me back into the custom recovery being used ... any ideas or help is greatly appreciated!
PS - Thank you to gr8nole and RootJunky - I'm always using your guys' methods and suggestions.

If you reboot to recovery using any method other than the three button reboot, you'll be stuck in recovery.

Well, yeah, that's the reason,
According to gr8nole, bootloader is responsible for this, the updated version of bootloader have this problem

That's IF you are using the Stock 4.4.2 ... I restored my Stock 4.1.2 before all this started happening ... Regardless, thank you guys for your suggestions, but its all good now. After work I came home and decided to give it one more try, using Odin to put Philz on and go from there, and this time it took. Once I got Philz on, I was able to (again) restore my 4.1.2 stock backup (fix the flickering screen of course) and the get back to Nolekat v1.9 - thank GOD!

It will happen if you ever updated the firmware once, no matter if you revert back to previous version later

Good to know ... GREAT, so since I updated that ONE time, from now on I can NEVER boot into recovery via software? It'll always be the 3B method .... that sucks! lol

I've been trying to find a way to downgrade back to 4.1.2 after finding out about kitkat's flaws. After I installed it, I noticed three things:
- NO extSD card permission
- FASTER battery drainage (it takes a whole day to charge it back from 0)
- Games like Temple Run can no longer be played cause tilt sensor malfunctions - accelerometer issues)
The first two are a major let down. If I had known about this prior the upgrade, I would have kept JB 4.1.2.
Now I'm looking for ways to safely downgrade back to Jelly Bean. From what I'd read, people are getting stuck in custom recovery because the kitkat bootloader or whatever is not compatible (or something like that)? Also, those who have successfully managed to get back to JB now have the issue of not being able to charge their sm-t210R unless it's turned ON. So if we fix one issue, we still got the other.
@jonstowe78, are you having any issues with charging while your device is turned off?
I read about flashing Philz custom recovery for sm-t20R, and after a (failed) attempt to root my tab 3 (which put me off from rooting), I know a bit about the 3B method to reboot. I flashed a custom 4.1.2 JB stock rom using Odin and that's how I got rid of the messed up screen that happened after I rooted.
I would LIKE to root to NoleKat, but like I said, one bad experience with rooting, forever leery of it. Unless someone can help me, please?

Ditto that. I got the firmware from sammobile.com & flashed (AP mode in Odin 3.09) and I was no longer stuck. At that point, I had stock 4.4.2. I then flashed phil via Odin 3.09 (AP) - the gr8nole version (check the nolekat thread) and was able to install any ROM I wanted.
Good luck

Thank you for your feedback!
The truth is, after I made that post, I did a lot of reading on custom recovery like TWRP, Philz Touch, and CWM, and then I read some more about NoleKat v2.0, and how it basically is like KK but it gives you root access and sd card rights back, so now I've decided to not downgrade. I've learned a lot from when I first tried to root (which ended in failure and a dim screen with flickering colors), so I'm more confident in how the process goes.
I was wondering though. If I install custom recovery (from any of those three), will they wipe my data? I know you can back up your data using the custom recovery, but which one do you think is the least likely to have issues with KK bootloader (assuming the custom recovs have all been updated to 'play nicely' with the KK so people won't get stuck in custom recov bootloop?)

Gr8nole have updated the recovery for SM-T210 to not stuck in recovery bootloop(it used to happen only and only if you use any software method to enter in to recovery mode) download cwm for SM-T210 and you are good to go,
And none of the recovery will wipe your data, even if you select factory wipe from custom recovery, it will only delete all the installed applications,
And of you flash(install) a recovery, it won't delete any data/app

@gr8nole Please prepare two PARAM image from JB and KitKat firmware. Try both PARAM on your device, maybe one of it is the solution of this recovery bootloop issue.
To create Odin flashable param:
Code:
tar -H ustar -c param.bin > param.tar
md5sum -t param.tar >> param.tar
mv param.tar param.tar.md5

Thanks again for your feedback!
Wait, you mean the installed apps that came pre-installed with KK? Because that's what it sounds like if you say that the recovery will not wipe my data like game progress, rss feeds, recordings, etc?
So if that's true, should I still create a backup through the custom recovery?
Would that be called a dirty flash? Or a full wipe?
I've spent nearly this whole day reading through the NoleKat thread from v0.1 to v.2. I can see it's come a long way. Gr8nole is truly an amazing developer! I've seen issues like charging offline, recovery bootloop, boot animation issues fixed as each new update gets better and better.

No, not the pre-installed apps, but the apps you installed will be uninstalled is you perform a wipe operation from recovery(custom)
It's just a apps wipe, it will leave only personal data like photos, songs, etc.

Hmm, I guess I'm just going to have to do a dirty flash then, mainly because I have this one game app, and even though it stores my game info in a folder, if I delete the app, I lose my account, and it's huge hassle to get it back.
So just to be clear, dirty flashing is basically no factory wipe/reset at all, right? Then what does the davlik or wiping cache do? I think we're still suppose to do that after flashing custom rom.

You can flash it without any risk of anything being deleted, flashing recovery won't delete anything (neither any app)
Cache memory stores dynamic things which helps apps to run smoothly, if you wipe that, your apps will have to make that memory again(when it runs for the first time/first time after you clear cache) to run smoothly in future, but Delvik cache helps android to run smoothly, every rom need different things to run smoothly, so we need to clear previous rom's Delvik cache in order to allow new rom to create is own Delvik cache of its own, this is the reason the first boot takes a bit longer time to compleat because it takes time to write is own Delvik cache, sometimes, different roms' Delvik cache conflicts, so it can be like you get stuck on boot screen, just clear Delvik cache to fix it
Hope it is clear, I might be wrong, but this is what I think it is!
