I tried using barnicle and it gives me an error "wifi:could not set ad hoc mode of wlan0 operation not supported on transport endpoint" all other apps say its working but it's not seen on any wifi enabled device. Is it because jelly beam doesn't support such apps? Can I use the phones built in wifi hotspot if that is the case and will I be forced to add on the wifi hotspot plan? Thanks Happy New Year.
What phone? Barnicle doesn't sound familiar.

Try CM10. Albinoman's RC3 is outdated and has several bugs that have been fixed mainstream by CM or Evervolv.

Ok, gotcha. I thought it was albinoman's because you just said jellybean 4.1.2. The actual ROM you are using is good to know. You only listed the Android version earlier in the post.
It sounds like Barnacle won't work.
No worries. Provisioning for tethering doesn't exist in CyanogenMod. SPG.apk is the provisioning app and also the tethering isn't linked in the device configuration so it won't charge you. My understanding with the provisioning is that it is never automatic. I think it takes you to their sign in page on ROMs without that removed which is only stock on the Inc.
I'm new at this but do you have a rom? I see "tiny4579" listed in my phone. I believe I'm currently using ponsAsinorem. Thanks for your help !

In short, you won't be billed for tethering on this ROM. Verizon won't know you're doing it as that hook doesn't exist in this ROM.
If tethering isnt linked to the device how does it still function unless im misinterpreting what "linked" means. Thanks !
And under about phone under cm version 10-20121120-pons-inc is cm10? And pons is the rom? Thanks so much !!

CM10 is the ROM and ROM version. CM10 is based off Android 4.1.2. Pons built the ROM.
And your other question, when you enable wifi hotspot on this device, other devices will see it as the default SSID of AndroidAP which can be changed if you want. By default it has a password so you need to change it or set it to open which can be a security risk.
Thanks for all your help !! I really appreciate it ! Happy new year

I'm keeping his build up to date yes.
Where in the phone are you looking when you say you're seeing my username in your phone? The about screen wouldn't show two ROMs.
In goomanager under browsing compatible roms along with aokp, invisiblek, miui, ponsAsinorem. That's where I go to change roms I believe.
Oh, yeah, that would have my build. It would be cm10-builddate-TINY-inc.zip.

I rooted my phone and since I'm like everyone else and don't want to pay 30 a month for wifi tethering, I downloaded 2 apps that do that: Barnacle's and the other wifi tethering app. Neither of them work, anyone have any ideas how to get this accomplished? I figured that since we have root now and there are netfilters in the kernel that we shouldn't have a problem.
I can't get Wifi Tethering for Root Users to work either

Try different versoins of wifi tether. I know on the hero side 1.6 was the only one that worked
to clarify, this is with android 2.1 using the userdebug RUU, not stock 2.1 or froyo 2.2, right?
now that you have ADB access, when you open one of the apk files to test it, can you monitor logcat and paste the results/errors it throws back here for us.
those of us w/o an EVO yet, less than 24 hrs, can try our best to help troubleshoot and give recommendations. hopefully it won't be too difficult!

you'll have root access in normal android mode if you flash flipz's STOCK ROM with root from the custom recovery.

sweet. thanks for the report!
I'm sorry to have jumped the gun on that one... I'm only able to get a static IP address on my computer.. and I'm unable to connect
I'm traveling to Italy tomorrow and just want to make sure that by having rooted and flashed an ASOP ROM on it has not affected its ability to connect to the cell network out there. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!
It will depending on the rom you use. I have been using Newt's rom's primarily and i know he has gotten both GSM and CDMA to work on some of his newer versions, you will have to check the changelog to see which ones work though,
Newts newest 3D 2.03 has the world phone capibilities..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1231283
But i cant speak for ASOP, you might want to check the log to see if it is listed as working or not.
I haven't tested Global Mode myself but people are reporting SkyRaider Zeus supports it.
I can give a big thumbs-up to the ROM as a whole. I have been running it for a few weeks and haven't hit a snag yet.

Oh Oh, I appreciate the feedback but is not at all what I was hoping for lol...I just posted this question on the ROMs thread but its too late to do anything about it if it does not have it enabled, $#|T!!!! Best to go with SkyRaider Zeus. Based off the stock shipped ROM, not a port.
Which Aosp rom do you have on your friends phone?
I've read in various places that CM 7 will work globally. Not sure about any of the others though.

i live abroad and the stock firmware works fine with local GSM carriers
you can just flash rmk Rooted rom which is the original firmware after removing bloatware, works exactly like stock ( no bugs at all )
and if needed he added a flashable zip including all removed app.
if you like sense 3 , in the Forum there a sense 3 Patch . i tested that rom myself with the Patch and its fine
there is many sense 3 Roms that Support Global Mode also. but in my opinion that rmk Rom is the safest ( no bugs at all )
## phone codes
+1 for rmk's stock ROM.
Make sure that the ROM you use will allow access to the ## phone codes.
Or at least put a stock based cleaned ROM on the phone and set it up and do a nandroid of it so if he needs to access those codes, he will have a workaround.
I found that the AOSP ROMs don't allow access to those codes.
So if you need to manually change any data settings you have to use a sense based ROM to make those changes, then flash back to the ROM you want.
The data settings should stay between flashes but I found that even with full wipe and flashing the ROM, then the nandroid, I still got a boatload of FCs.
Good luck ....
Yep, just depends on which ROM you download. Some do, some don't.
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks

I have recently upgraded my phone from a Droid Incredible to the Galaxy Nexus. While on the Incredible Conap created a cool app called "Change Carrier Name" V1.3 that automated the process of changing the carrier name. Thread can be found here:

Would it be possible to do the same for the Galaxy Nexus? If the process could be automated it would sure beat editing the framework by hand.
Use Aokp it has what you're looking for.

Was hoping this could be accomplished without replacing the stock ROM with a custom one. Something like unlock and root stock ROM, install APK, run, rename, reboot and PRESTO new custom carrier name.

No. You'd be on the same network and same towers.
You're also on Verizon. So there is no way you're going to be able to use AT&T or T-Mobile's towers. Even if it was possible, it'd be illegal.

Gummies Rom has carrier text change capabilities
Sent from my 4g GUMMY Nexus
zephiK: Took your advice and installed AOKP ROM. Don't foresee going back to stock any time soon. Love AOKP in conjunction with Franco's Kernel. Carrier name change was a breeze. Loving the other features of this ROM as well. I would recommend it to anyone with a Galaxy Nexus.
i have the same question
in miui the carrier.apk will show the carrier in the upper left in statusbar
will that work with aosp crom on the nexus aswell?
i know i can change it in aokp, but its not shown in the statusbar..
Posting about this particular ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1993996 and since there's a crazy rule that prevents me from asking my question in the appropriate place, I'm in this forum instead.
Does the linked ROM support device encryption? My hercules is currently on the CM10.0 release and as the teamchopsticks page says, device encryption is not supported (doh!). Trying to find alternative Jellybean roms that do support encryption.
If nobody knows whether LiquidSmooth supports device encryption, could you repost my question in that dev thread on my behalf?
Any recommendations aside from revert to CM9?
I've been looking for a JB ROM that supports device encryption for a few months now. There does not appear to be one that exists.
I tried AOKP and CM10 and I liked them, but I can't use anything as a daily driver that doesn't have device encryption due to the need to sync work emails and calendar.
It looks like LiquidSmooth is built off of AOSP, so unless they specifically did something special to implement device encryption, I would guess that it is not supported.
Anything new on device encryption on a Jelly Bean ROM? I'm running 9.1 at present, but would prefer a JB ROM.
Also, have CM10.1 or Team Chopsticks or anyone else been working on device encryption for a 4.2.X based ROM?

What kind of ROM are you talking about? Because you won't find any Jelly Bean with FFC and market apps don't work either. Do not waste money or time looking for a FFC. It's not gonna happen. You can find lots of information here about this if you dig a little. There is a search box. Get familiar with that, and you'll learn a lot on your own. It's cool bro. You can ask any questions you want. Don't hesitate. I might not be able to answer them all, but I can help you find an answer. As for finding out which phone model you have, go to settings, then about phone. Look at the model number. If it says PC36100 you have the Evo 4G, otherwise known as the OG. If it's anything else besides PC36100, you'll have to google it to find out what kind of phone you have.

The og (HTC evo 4g, aka supersonic) does have a ffc but it only has drivers for Gingerbread Roms. You have flashed roms from this forum I have tried helping you with some of your mms issues. If you had the lte than your phone would most likely be in sad shape. Flashing things not designed for your phone can cause big issues even brick it ( phone will never work again). As some users have found out the hard way already.
So plainly put you have an Og. Now this should have been the first question you asked before flashing anything.
Also I am working on a couple cricket roms for all the users on here. The first set will be sense based sense 1.0, 3.0, and 3.5. All with confirmed working mms and great battery life. I am also working on cm7, ics, and jelly bean.

I'm becoming more proficant in flashing roms and terms and what to look for in a Rom. A sense cricket Rom would thrill me as editing apns is not working. The only thing I've had work was a mazwoz everything cricket Rom, however as stated before the roms battery usage was 1% a minute, no Bluetooth capability, (which id rather over a ffc) .
With the newest recovery options, (especially including the usb toggle feature) bricking seems like it'd be impossible .

forgive me if I sound stupid, but 4.2 or 4.1 for what? I downloaded the apk in that ROM post of 4.2 copied it over to system apps, the permissions were already set how they should be rebooted and it would force close when I would try and open it .I even used Titanium Backup to try and restore it over it wouldn't restore, and tried using package installer and it would say parsing error or something like that. forgive me if I sound stupid, but 4.2 or 4.1 for what? I downloaded the apk in that ROM post of 4.2 copied it over to system apps, the permissions were already set how they should be rebooted and it would force close when I would try and open it .I even used Titanium Backup to try and restore it over it wouldn't restore, and tried using package installer and it would say parsing error or something like that. I'm currently running the digital karma rom v9.

Android Jellybean 4.1 or 4.2
Those mms.apk's will not work on Gingerbread, Sense or any Android version below 4.1

I figured that's what it was but was under the impression 2.3.5 was the current Android version. I'll look up upgrading to 4.2 tonight n let u know how it goes. Probably explains why I couldn't get dirty unicorn Rom to install thnx again.

Dirty Unicorns is 4.2.2 which is what you will need (I used the 4.2 mms apk on Dirty Unicorns too) and what was the problem with it not loading?

It gave an error upon flashing. Don't recall the exsact error but it didn't even start the installation process ill let you know when I get home a little later. But I made sure to do several wipes on everything before flashing.
Deleted.

I installed DU this morning with no issues whatsoever. Might want to check and make sure you don't have a bad download, and try again.

Is there a ffc fix for this Rom? other roms I've seen got this working.
No FFC for any jellybean or ICS ROMs. Only gingerbread (2.3.5) ROMs will have FFC.
Also you will want to use an amon Ra style recovery. Cwm and twrp are not very good options for this phone. Diablo has a few themed versions you might like.
Here os the link.

So after 2 weeks of trying to figure out MMS much thanks to wambo bomb and the rest of you in this thread for your patience with this newb I got MMS working on the fast and stable, (with Bluetooth) dirty unicorn ROM.(battery is bad which is why its been draining so quickly with other ROMs) I shoulda known the MMS 4.2 stood for androids version. For some weird reason I was thinking it was the mms's version. I find it interesting older versions of android have the FFC working though but not newer ones. Oh well I'd much much rather have MMS than FFC. If I had money to donate to you and the others I definatly would I'm sorry I don't though. As stated before I'm disabled and can't get on disability yet. If I do get on it I'll be happy to donate to all of you for your help. Many thanks again for educating me so I can help others in the future.
