I have a red light constantly on even when phone is asleep. I believe it could a proximity light. Is it a malfunction as it was there before. I don't have amart stay on or anything like that and even rebooted the phone

If it is to the right of earpiece then its proximity sensor. If it is to the left of it, its led indicator. Red generally means low battery

Just got my i747m s3 and I was wondering if the LED notification is working properly when charging.
LED notification when charging:
flashes red intermittently when charging
flashes green intermittently when fully charged
Is this normal?
I thought it would be solid colours during charging/charged, instead of flashing intermittently.
- stock rooted telus rom
I'm pretty sure it is not supposed to flash

thanks buddy.
just figured it out. light flow is causing it to flash intermittently, even when it is disabled
Take it back to the store. For what you paid you deserve a device properly working lol!

He doesn't need to do that, his SIII works fine. Light Flow is an app that allows you to control the LED light. Even when disabled it sometimes does stuff in the background.
I disabled the charging LED in the options, myself. In my dark room it was enough light to keep me awake, so it had to go.

Never had this issue with my stock s3. Using an app to solve this can be okay but, usually, when I pay good money for a device, I want it top notch!

The phone works fine. Its the 3rd party app that's not working properly.
Basically the same form me

It's called Led

No I know that.. its the third visible hole starting from right first. The sensor.. (right side of speaker) it was glowing red and my phone was disconected from the charger with LED light off. Closest thing I can relate the color too was like the red of a burning metal. For some reason I cabt upload pics.

I love the led notification, nothing like waking up in the middle of the night and looking over and knowing you don't have any notifications because the light isn't going off... but when I don't need a flashlight BECAUSE it's going off it gets annoying... I wanna be able to go to sleep if I'm ignoring it; yet have it there to know I have things to look at.
(first world problem I know)

and spare me the obvious put something on top. I want something permanent that won't subtract from the look of my phone

Just turn it off???
Sure its nice to know if you have a message from afar but really? One of the first things I did when I got my GS3 and Note 2 was go into settings/display/LED Indicator/and unselect all boxes.
i don't think you can lower the intensity, but you can turn off the notifications and us an app called NoLED. it puts a notification on your screen instead. since OLED only lights up the active pixels the drain should be any more than the notification light. i use it with my sammy droid charge that has no notification lights.
Why not just go into settings and turn on Blocking Mode?
You can set the time frame it's active. It can keep led off, notifications, phone calls etc. You can change the settings for it.

Yep it worked. is there anyway to get rid of the blocking notification?
From what I know, it remains in the notification panel, as long as Blocking is turned on.

I'm stock rooted. I've noticed that my red charge light randomly gets dimmer until I wake the phone. I put it back to sleep and it's normal. Has anyone else seen this.

If your in a bright area the led will be brighter and vice versa, I believe it uses 1 of the sensors to detect how bright it is.

I guess I thought it was a problem with my phone, but I shined a flash light on and off at the light sensor and the charge light changed with it. Thanks for the input.
At the top right of the phone there are 2 sensors and the camera to the right the 2 sensors to the left the one right next to the ear speaker grill sometimes lights up red it does not affect the phone at all. I just fine it lit up at random times after I restart the phone it goes out and does not come back on for maybe days but why does it come on and what is that sensor for?
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda app-developers app
Is the proximity sensor. There are things like quick view that uses it. Sometimes mine gets stuck on and I notice my battery drains faster. Reboot fixes it. It turns off the screen when you hold it up to your ear.
