Anybody know any good aluminum bumpers for I9100? My casemate is falling apart.

Dont you mean "Aluminium"
I thought only the Yanks spelt it like that?
I thought I'd actually be helpful and not post a pointless response

I have a red sweet armor and i have no complaints about it. I can access the battery. The sides are raised.
Though i have recently thought of getting a leather case.
Thanks for the help, you two^. rawr.itservin, have you noticed any impact on signal for GPS, WiFi, 3G on your phone?
I know aluminium is a fairly light metal but doesn't this just add unnecessary weight?
Not no really. Everything seems to be fine. There is a small "hole" on the left side for the antenna. I've only heard that the Aluminum battery covers had problems with GPS.
Here is how mine looks like.

That looks really nice, I'm using a castmate barley there at the moment but I do like the look of that. Would you recommend it? and how easy is it to put on?
Yes i have no regrets in buying the bumper. The only complaint i have is my jack that i have in my home stereo is too big for the hole on top for earphones. Sorry i couldn't find the correct terms.
But everything else is great. There is cushions inside so in case you drop it, it absorbs some shock. The power and volume controls are easily accesed.
In terms of taking it off and putting it back on, It will take awhile since it's being held by 4 screws.
This is the thread you're looking for.
thinking about getting a metal bumper cuz it cheap, but will there be a sign on signal drop. like noticeable drop. Seller say that case is made out of aircraft grade anodized aluminium, so it should be super good with advance technology

I stay away from metal bumper or back cover. NFC don't work and drop of signals ...
I have that bumper in blue. It's not super-high-quality and I have to disagree with whatever you mean by "should be good with advance technology" - there's really nothing that would suggest that that I can tell.
Haven't really noticed any signal drop.
Couldn't get Google Wallet to work today, but going to trouble-shoot to see if it's somehow the bumpers (they only cover the sides, so not sure why it would be them) or something else. A metal back will certainly block NFC. I'm not really sure how just bumpers would if the NFC is in the battery - maybe there's something else to it, I'll have to find out.
I have one and nfc works with it and signal is noticeably worse. Its one signal bar lower with the case on, or no signal at all in low signal areas. I do not recommend it, I am returning my charcoal one and ordered a spigen rubber one.
Thats just muly experience with it though. Wifi is also affected.

Got NFC to work today, must have been doing something wrong at check-out yesterday.
I don't notice loss of signal, at least my usage and experience is unchanged

I have an aluminum battery back cover and I've done speed test with it. Speeds are normal and NFC works.
Type R-blood
Do not mention Draco or any other ridiculously priced bumper please. $80 is way too much for a case.
With that said are there any good aluminum bumpers out for this phone yet? I haven't been able to find any

I would definitely love one. Wouldn't mind paying 80 bucks just don't want a ridiculous design like the Draco one.

I feel an aluminum bumper on this phone will preserve the look and feel of thr all aluminum phone while still adding some protection
How is the reception with the bumper on? Is it made out of actual metal? Isn't the whole point of the plastic sides are for reception issues since aluminum causes reception issues?

Thread cleaned
I deleted about 15 posts about that draco bumper and other things as off-topic.
Seriously guys, the OP asked explicitely to NOT discuss that bumper. And also he didn't ask for pouches.
So either ask his question or stay off this thread. The next one not keeping to this rule will face consequences.
Cheers
Is anyone with an aluminum bumper experiencing heat issues? The one already gets a little warm just curious if this exasperates the issue? Did I spell that right

Bad experiences for me
I've not tried an aluminum casing on the One but from previous experience, putting an aluminum bumper on my cell phone turned the GPS completely useless. I could never use Navigon while my gorgeous aluminum case was on the thing (granted, it was an iPhone ).

Ive always had issues with aluminim bumpers and reception as well.. this phone might change that though seeing as how the phone is aluminium to begin with. I think it might work really well.
Also..thank you for the cleanup

Well, don't forget the plastic strips on side and back. One reason for them being there is avoiding reception problems a full aluminium body would provide. So with alu bumpers you could probably close that "reception gaps" and therefore get in reception trouble. But that's a guess on my side.
Doh!!!

You are absolutely correct. The fact that the HTC One is all aluminum completely went over my head! :silly:
So yeah, I guess an aluminum case might not be so bad on the One. I'll be interested in finding out.
Also, I tried to give you a "thanks" instead of this reply but I was told that I'm limited to 8 thanks a day (WTH!?).
Well the thread says to not mention the Draco case, but I will as I can confirm the aluminum does not hinder cell or GPS reception to an unusable state. Other aluminum bumpers in the future will most likely show similar effects.
At work (deep inside office building, connected to LTE; Scottsdale) --
W/o: -88 to -92 dbm
With: -90 to -95 dbm
I wish someone would start to make them
Bumper or regular aluminium case would be awesome I wish some company would do make one

Thank you... responses like this are perfectly acceptable as they pertain to aluminium bumpers in general.. you just so happened to test that with a case that costs almost as much as the insurance deductible.

Off topic!!!! Talking about iPhones....lets ban this dude. lol Jk.
I think having an aluminum bumper would help dissipate heat, like a heat sink or something.
Whoops responded to a wrong quote.
Although I don't think it would affect GPS.

Hi,
I found an aluminium case here:
http://item.mobileweb.ebay.com/viewitem?itemId=171032934102
It is not a bumper though.
I dream of an aluminium bumper for 30 bucks but it probably never gonna happen.
I don't know if i should get the draco design bumper in black or red
I know it's blasphemy but all three of these cases would be great. I for one would love to see a nice screw together machined aluminum case.
And, before you call and ask the company who makes the case I posted back and front pictures of..... it is over 200 dollars. It is called Black Ops. It does look cool though.
I think the issue with aluminum cases for the HTC one would be difficult because all the edges are slanted towards the screen. If you look at the poetic atmosphere case for an example, in order to be able to press the buttons, they made the case slant towards the screen as well. With aluminum, getting the perfect matching slant could be a problem. I guess an aluminum case that was straight without any slants towards the screen but inside had padding to match the slant could be achieve but that would alter the original ergonomic design of the HTC One's slanted edges concept. Just my 2 cents
Got my silver aluminum bumper from AliExpress today and it looks great for the price. When I came back from lunch with my boss, this thing was waiting for me in my mail box. It was extremely well packaged from China and you can tell the package was beat up in it's week's journey. Shipping to me in TX from China only took a week and that is extremely fast for me. I was expecting a two week delivery time.
To the case: To quell any questions on call quality; I have placed one call with the bumper on since I installed it. And it works. No noticeable drops that I can initially tell. I'll update if anything changes.
My bumper came with a generic N5 screen protector, which I will not use, because I already have a spigen one installed. I proceeded in taking the included bag which had a philips type of screw driver and upon further inspection, the bag also have a few spare screws, which is always welcomed IMO.
I removed my tpu bumper and slapped this one on immediately. I first came across the bumper looking like it may not fit due to my dbrand cf skin. Being a bit thick, I was a bit worried. But with a little more wrapping the case closer to the outer bezel, the screw openings aligned up better than before. The reason is because of the little foam pads on the interior. Once you work it down a bit, you should be able to screw in the teeeny tiny screws with the included screwdriver.
Will it work on my orb charger? Yes! It holds up as I thought it would.
Does the little screw tab that reminds me of Florida really bad looking? No, when looking at the phone at its entirety, I honestly can say, I like it.
Does it protect the back camera? Uhhhh that's a no. There are ridges on the bottom of the micro USB port and where the headphone port is, but it is not enough to keep the camera lens to sit on the table. This will detract quite a few people. But keep in mind, this is a MINIMALIST case, not a Seidio or Otterbox or whatever bomb proof case that's out there now lol. All the openings are nice and big, except for the headphone port. If you have anything like a Shure E215 plug, you will need to use an adapter to extend the port or use another headset/headphone all together. Another issue, I kinda dislike is the opening for the power button. You have to really search for the button because of it being a cut out compared to buttons on top. I just got to get used to that feeling.
However saying that, I am 100% comfortable placing my phone flat down because I have a dbrand carbon fiber skin on my Nexus 5 backside.
Another bonus is that this aluminum bumper fits in my Seidio Dilex Holster for the Nexus 5 without any issue. The little tab on the bottom plays nice and I am one happy camper. :highfive:
Do I recommend this? For now I say yes aesthetic wise. Everything seems to work thus far so I really don't have anything too bad to say about it.
Pros:
It's thin
Aluminum color is sleek and sexy with my cf white dbrands skin
Ok with wireless charging orb (will test out Tylt Vu later on as well as the Nexus Wireless charger in my truck)
Cons:
It's thin
This bumper will not protect the camera lens when laying it on it's backside.
The lil "Florida" tab where the screws are. Even though not a dealbreaker for me, it's still a slight 'con' in my book.
Pics below. Please let me know if you have any questions. I'll field them if I am not working
Thanks for the review, I will probably buy one. Does it seem like the metal would be able to scratch the screen where or makes contact?

Have you used it on the Nexus Wireless Charger yet? I currently have a TPU case but just bought the new charger but noticed the case was too thick for the magnets so I'm looking at getting a bumper like this.
wow that looks awesome
Could you take a photo of the hole for the headphone jack when the case is on the Nexus 5 or measure the diameter of the hole?

No it doesn't seem to scratch or do anything to the screen. I have a Spigen protector on it and the bumper did not peel it up. I was more worried about the dbrand backing.

Yes I have used the Nexus wireless charger. I have it installed in my truck in conjunction of a Kenu Airframe that mounts to the vents. It clears Kenu Airframe so that the magnets can catch without much issue. And bumpy Texas roads and highways are no match thus far. But don't go off roading lol.

Not too good with measurements with that size, I'll try lol. To me and my ruler, it looks like 6mm? I'll attach a pic.
Reporting on a half day of full use of the Aluminum bumper. I really do like the look of it and fits in my Seidio Dilex holster securely. However, I have to report in that if one has a dbrands back like me, I have a white carbon fiber back, it may bubble up a bit depending on how you put on your back and if you used a blow dryer on the edges like dbrand suggested. I did do that, but I did find a slight bubble/rise on the corner where the screws go in. Also, you can see that the bumper does not fully wrap around like a tpu would because, this is really not that flexible. I'll post some pics and hopefully you can see what my OCD eyes can see. As for the lil bubble, I'll need to do a follow up blow dryer event when I go home for lunch and see if that makes it go away or not. Not really all concerned with the bubble, I can hardly see it and I can learn to live with it if it doesn't go away lol.

I agree, but I am ok with it. I mean if it was naked it would have the same issue. However the dbrand back is protecting it from scratches so I am ok with that.Drop protection, I don't know, even though the box does mention drop protection on corners lol.
Can you comment on your cellular connection with it on.
Have you done any speed tests with and without it.
I mentioned in another thread that I had one on an iPhone and it did not do well, but the iPhone antenna is around the device, different than the Nex 5.

No I haven't done speedtests on it. But I am getting full bars LTE right outside my office, which is pretty much on par with what I normally get. I have to admit, I do think it affects the antenna slightly, but not to the point of dropped calls. However, I do not have anything to back up this theory.
I'll report back later on to see if my wife said she called me and I didn't answer or what have you.

Because you asked and I don't feel like working on my next project right now lol...
Without the bumper on, the phone went to lowest LTE at -112dBm
With bumper on, the phone went to H and jumps here and there, but didn't stick and settled on 3g (or UMTS) at -101dBm.
So my initial feelings are correct that it does hinder reception but I am still connected. Well in the office anyway. But I used my phone at lunch with co workers without issue. I was getting emails and notifications while I was out.
unfortunately, I barely get signal in my office so I can't really get this :/ I wish there was a good looking bumper that has same look/feel as this one but made of a different material that would not jeopardize the signal quality.

No not so much, but after my first Seidio Holster broke, I have been running it naked and got used to its slim design. This was minimal bulk that still showed off the back dbrand skin goodness and also helps with any corner bumps. Which I have to say it did do its job the other day when I knocked it off my charger in my truck.

I have to add, which I didn't in the OP, is that I did add a bit more for a tracking number. I think the extra shipping cost less than 3 bucks.
I took the case 23 days to reach me from Hong Kong to Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia. When I finally receive it, it came with defect. The buttons are all not align, the speaker output too.
I can't press the back button.
Luckily I paid using paypal (dispute ticket open), wish otterbox would create a case for MI 3 any soon.

Some badly designed metal covers does cause poor signal and call drops. I used a cheap metal case and I experienced it.
I returned the case and switched to nillikin frosted cover. Looks great, protects well (sec mic covered though).

The only part of this case that is aluminum is the outer edge and on the bottom a couple inch's by the camera, the rest is rubber, plastic and glass. Besides it don't matter what case you use the signal loss will not have any significant effect or you would lose signal every time you went into a building (cement enclosures are an exception as they are very thick). Your loss of signal is due to the poor quality radios in these phones and your carriers cheap tower output. I have had 3 of these cases all of them worked just fine if you didn't mind it bulking your phone up a quarter inch all the way around its borders. I have had my phone out of this case for 3 months now and the signal has remained the same 2 to 3 bars sometimes no signal sometimes 4 to 5 bars but on average 2 & 3 bars of reception.
Just be sure you order the right case for your phone as the buttons in the case are different for the mi3w vs the mi4w and this is probably why petiole are having button issues. I love the extremely thick glass in them though I think it's just tempered glass and not true gorilla glass as it is not really all that scratch resistant but when you can pick them up for under $15 shipped who cares.

As far as waterproof goes no it's not waterproof as that is virtually impossible to do with a case and I believe is just poor translation. Highly water resistant is more correct. It stops water really well from your dangerous areas (charging port and headset jack) which could cause a bad short but it will slowly seep into both your speakers. I through mine into a mud puddle for a few minutes and it came out playing music but started freaking out for a few hours while trying to use it (mostly functions on the bottom of the device such as the home, back buttons, the 2 apps next to the app drawer and trying to hit return and send button on the keyboard or messenger was impossible). The second time it got wet from getting soaked by a downpour of rain and it started freaking out I tried simply removing the phone from the case and it worked fine it was just condensation under the glass. They are cheap cases and do break down after a few months losing their adhesive that keeps the buttons and screen sealed to the aluminum frame. I give the case a 7 out of 10 as it does a great job protecting it from daily water problems such as you accidentally drop it into a toilet or pitcher of beer or a puddle of water and retrieve it quickly because the cloth used over the speakers dramatically slows water seepage to a slow drip. It does a great job at protecting your phone as my first case proved when it fell onto the concrete from my coat pocket which was a 5 or more foot drop as I was climbing down from a railcar. Plus you can get them on eBay cheap if your not picky on color. I paid $13 shipped for my last one
The reason I docked it 3 points is because
1. The so called gorilla glass 3 is a flat out lie (it is an insanely thick piece of glass though that made me like it) that scratched easily over time but wasn't unbearable like film screen protectors get plus it not being truly waterproof.
2. The screws are easy to over tighten and strips the threading on the aluminum case if your not careful plus if you don't use locktight can vibrate themselves free and fall out on you if you have a job say as a forklift driver where your phone has constant vibrations.
3. The sealant which seals the glass and buttons eventually breaks down and allows condensation to build up from humidity in the air which will make your phone spaz out kind of like but not as extreme as if you just got it wet until you let it dry out or take it out of the case and wipe down the screen after a period of 6-12 months.

Well in my case, with the metal case on, I used to get 1 bar, but when I removed the case it increased to 3 bars (at the same location). As I mentioned, mine was a cheap, badly designed with case covering the antenna part. Bad design or not, metal cases will have some effect on network strength, here are some articles:

Must have been 1 crappy case. I never experienced any less signal with this case than without it. The radios in these phones are junk. I can sit my phone on the table without a case and watch it drop from 4 bars to 2 bars and go back to 3 or 4 bars hours later.
