anyone come up with a list to enable/disable to improve battery?
I think the battery is already pretty phenomenal.

Stop using the light and orientation sensors. So turn off auto-rotate and don't use auto-screen brightness. Also use wifi when possible; 3g will consume more power if your signal is weak.

It is not good for me either. I am loosing about 15% a hour with the screen off and not even using it. If I use the phone i can just watch it fall about 1% every 5 min. I don't get it. the only thing i have in the background running is weather, twitter and gmail. That is it nothing else. The Android OS sits about 86% use in the batter use screen. I have no idea what is causing this. Any help would be great.

Run the phone down completely, to the point where it shuts off. Then charge until the led turns blue(fully charged), then turn it on. I'll screenshot my battery status tonight.

Yes it is always posted that high. I have also already tried the suggestion of completely draining the battery and charging to 100% twice now. Doesn't seem to help. This is not my first android phone so I have tried all the typical turn stuff off. I started with the hero and then went to the evo. Then jumped to verizon for thunderbold and now back on sprint for this phone obviously. So far this is the worst battery life I have had yet. Seeing what you guys are getting though gives me hope.
I have tried using spareparts to get more battery information but get a force close when trying to do that.
Man I know that battery results range pretty wildly, but I'm averaging 10% loss per 2 hours.
On launch day I was on it from about 3:30pm until about 10pm and only lost about 40%. And when I say on it, I bet the screen on time was 95% of that time.
So far, the battery life is one of my favorite things about this phone. First time I've felt comfortable enough to run a live wallpaper.

You are lucky then, If i use the phone I will loose 40% in about 2 hours no problem. Also if you are loosing about 5% an hour that will only give you about 20 hours total before your dead. I see people reporting they are getting over a day. Just don't see how. Are they just not using their phone at all.
What does everyone have there screen brightness to if not set to auto brightness? Also what is everyone's screen mode set to?

I have mine at manual and just under the A. I have the mode at standard.
What I do is look at my active app widget to make sure I have no apps running. It is nice being there. Messaging sometimes hangs, I have noticed that.

You SHOULD always when you get a new battery fully Drain it and then fully charge the battery with the device OFF. Thats what I did with my phone. I kept using it once I got it, it lasted around 5 hours before the phone shut off during a phone call. then when I plugged it in to charge, I plugged it in and did not turn it on and waited till it fully charged with the Blue Light. I dont know about the normal thing now adays with lithium ion batteries but you were always warned in the packaging to let your battery fully cyle its first cycle with no use at all. The cells in the batteries have a memory type of design and if you dont fully charge the battery you can prevent it from knowing its full capacity.
Now I dont know if this is true anymore with the new battery production of the manufacturers now may power cycle the batteries before they seal the whole package so the customers dont have to do it. Maybe why when you get your device the battery is around 50% now like mine came. I remember older devices you could not use your device until you fully charged the battery the first time.
About Screen Brightness, I learned from a Epic user that the best way to conserve battry usage was to always keep your Screen Brightness at 10% (Gotta love the Touchwiz Brightness Changing with the Top Notification bar, this device will not show the slider bar like Touchwiz 3.0 on the Epic but IT STILL WORKS!!!!). I have noticed that at the lowest brightness setting I can still see everything vividly enough to work with it and im getting over 24 hours with moderate normal usage (like only 1-3 5-10 minute phone calls, surfing the net, surfing for new apps) This is my first android phone. I also have had 4G turned off and Wifi off all this time as I have no way to access those right now. I also have GPS turned off because I havent needed to use it yet. I pretty much have everything but Basic needs turned on besides all the Factory default presets. I also Turned my screen mode to DYNAMIC, which seems to show more vivid colors like I use on my Samsung TV for my computer usage.
Now I turned off Live wallpaper and im using one of the preinstall basic Grey ones (the one with the asfault looking spot light) (I have been trying to hit the crazy benchmarks people are getting trying to find out why I am not getting the 93+mflops mine keeps hitting 80's) So I dont know what heavy usage is doing to my phone.
but then again this is only under 48 hours of ownage. My first full night off the charger was 1 day and 3hours before it said I was 5% battery life and I plugged it in.
Anyone able to get better than two hours of screen on time with a single charge? That's where I cap out no matter the ROM/kernel and the phone is basically completely dead at that point. As a note I use the Samsung extended battery.
Sent from my tin can using a string.
I'm on the ext battery too and rarely get more than 2 hours screen time, and if I do its not much more.
I get 2.5-3 hours
Do you guys have auto sync on, GPS, data, etc?
I get two hours screen on time minimum.
Auto sync off, GPS off unless I need it, Bluetooth off, 3G always on.
I'm at 49% currently and a hour and 45 min screen time, that's using the phone for all that time straight, a 10 min phone call during it, texting, 3G on all the time and auto brightness.
Liquid 1.5 and Franco N180.
Stock battery.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
I can also squeeze 2.5-3hrs max.
Auto-Sync On, GPS on, Screen brightness 60% 3G at home/4G when I go out. Setcpu performance 1200 with screen off set to 700/300 ondemand. Stock kernel. I always go into settings and force close maps and other programs when stuff like Play Store autostarts them.
I'm still practically capped at two hours screen on time, even with just auto brightness and 3g, no synch. I find it strange that there are such mixed results across Verizon users.
Sent from my tin can using a string.
I usually get around 2.5 to maybe 3 hours of screen time. That is with a standard battery. Mostly on WIFI, 4g off, 35% screen brightness.
Those numbers were from when I was running stock ICS 4.0.4.
To early to tell about JB battery performance, only been on it a few days.
I am on VZW by the way.

What sort of battery life are you all seeing with this years note? come from the ipad 3 where i usually saw 10-11 hours screen time and 2-3d standby, today is the first time ive had it from 100% and i only lasted 6 hours screentime with 7 hours overall on time, i still havent run it down completely yet but surely i should be getting more than this?
Its such a shame because i love it so much, but i cant deal with this short battery life
It's much better than that. I found it better after a couple of charges. I rooted mine and deleted or froze b.oatware and I get 13 hours heavy use

I came from an ipad 3 as well and had the same problem until I disabled several apps, turned off GPS, etc and over the long weekend I was getting ~12 hours of web surfing.
I haven't rooted yet so that should be a number that can improve. I'm sorta trying to wait for a root that doesn't trip knox. I don't want a custom rom so no reason to install a bootloader and lose my warranty if I can be patient. Tried Cydia Impactor but I had already upgraded to MK1. I'm wondering if the shipping rom (P600XXUAMIE) might have the 4.3 vulnerabilities unpatched.

I thought it was more, but looking at the list.. go to settings, General, Application Manager, select the prinstalled apps you don't want running all the time and click Turn Off. I've turned off BlurbCheckout, Businessweek+, NYTimes, Polaris Office, Screen Saver and Twitter. I think more important was turning off GPS, Screen Rotation, Bluetooth, Reading Mode, Smart Stay, Smart Pause, Smart Scroll, Auto Brightness then adjusting the screen brightness to something a bit less retina searing than the default.

I've had mine since Saturday soooo, 5 days now. I get easily 10-11 hours of screen time. I loose about 1% per 8-9 hours in stand by and i loose about 9% per hour of video streaming from either my Netflix, HBO GO, or Slingbox account and that's with brightness about or just above 50%. I'm also NOT rooted yet. Totally stock with just certain apps turned off and i restrict a lot of the background data on individual apps that i don't need running background data
Have you guys try using this damn thing at 100% while indoors? It hurts the eyes with a white screen.

Hmm, I think I misspoke about the background data on this tablet. I do that religious with my phones (Bionic, GS4) but I went to look at what i did and there is no option to turn off background data. I would normally go to settings>data usage and tap whatever app and the check "restrict background data". I must have thought I did that on this tablet but obviously not.
i think the battery life is great on my tablet - i dont game with it - today it has been running for 13 hours 48 minutes with 5 hours and 48 minutes of screen on time and battery is at 52% - not rooted yet - i have everything i dont use turned off ( ie. smart stay/scroll, air view ) and running nova laucher prime and dont use power savings mode
Face it - it's nowhere near ipads. That's my biggest concern.
It lasts the day, charge it at night, what's the problem, as long as it lasts all day there's nothing to worry about

I dunno, doing pretty good over here. Rooted, but have no froze anything. Only rooted to get gameCIH installed screen is between 25% and 50% brightness depending on what im doing or where i am. I mostly just use it for playing a few games here and there, taking notes during lectures.. etc. This is about typical, sometimes I get a little less, screen brightness seems to play a huge role in battery drain (obviously) but ive never run it dead during the day.. ever. I start every day with 100% charge and dont usually plug it in till I go to bed. If I have a charger around and im not doing anything ill plug it in (I mean.. why not) but I don't ever have to "worry" about it going dead on me.
I'm currently on 9 hours of battery time, probably at least 4-5 hours of that is screen on time reading comics or doing sketchbook pro pictures.
Battery is on 46%.
So yeh, battery is fine. Brightness is about 30%.

Right... It's better then an IPad. I doubt the IPads beat 11-12 hours of screen time at roughly 50% brightness and an IPad has a smaller screen and less pixels to power.

Hi all, I just bought this tablet, I have not turn it on yet...
Do I have to charge the device fully before turning on like some cell phones are?! or I can just start using it right away?!
and what kind of battery it does?! how's the charging process?! should I wait for it to be fully discharged, and then charge it to 100 percent?! or should I keep it between 40 to 80 percent to save the battery life...
in a nut shell, if you have any forum or link or information that could help, please share

Dude, just turn it on and use it. The days of cycling a batter (let it drain and then charge to full) were over in the 90's with Ni-Cad batteries.. these do not develop a memory. From dead, the tab will take 5-6 hours to charge with supplied charger and in the wall. Using it while charging will still cause it to lose battery but a a much slower rate.
My battery is draining so fast and I have no idea why I got this pho e yesterday and have let it go s
Flat and charged it full and for a bit it was ok but as soon as it hits 99 percent it takes a matter of hours before draining completely anyone have a solution for this ? I don't really wanna use summit like greening as I tho k that takes away the goodness of having a high end phone any settings I can change I'm on art and nothing had changed
If anyone can help that would be great thanks!

Whats "eating" all the battery, can you check the list and see whats doing it?
Are you a heavy user, whats your screen on time?
Thanks for the reply I am currently at work and do not have sufficient internet and no WiFi to upload any pictures I will be able to do later but for now my on screen time is just over two hours and I have 60% remaining after a charge and just over 3hours left it says I will upload some screenshots later
Sent from my LG-D855 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Screen time of two hours and 60% remaining is pretty good I think? That means you should get 5 hours of screen time with the same usage.
I used to get 4-4.5 with my G2 and my unrooted G3 with sync on and brightness from 0-50% depending on the time of day. I just rooted my G3 and installed Greenify so I'm curious what I'll get.
Maybe you should go back from ART to Dalvik until Android L is released. When I tried ART my phone got very hot, rebooted randomly, and the battery life was very short indeed.

I do not know how people can 5h screentime. I have the brightness at 50%, I'm using grenify app, leave it on 2G. Only thing is I leave Wifi enabled and got at most 3h 20min.
I love this device, but the battery drain is much worse after the update IMHO. I have reset the phone quite a few times because of it.
Following my last reset to faftory, I accidentally did NOT set brightness to auto and have had it around 50%. Low and behold, my battery life has shot up from 10 hours to 18 hours. I could be wrong and will report back in a mother few days as to whether this has done it.
Of course , I am still suffering from the GPS issue, but the battery life was going to make me switch to a g4. Maybe now i wont.

All the Samsung phones I've had (the note 4 is 4th) have all had horible battery drain if I used auto-brightness. On the Note 4, I get almost 8 hours of screen-on time on a charge that lasts almost a day and a half.
I thought it was common knowledge to turn off auto-brightness to save battery.

I use auto brightness with no problems to my battery life since a factory reset after LP.. you can also disable enhanced LTE to get more life.
but yes even though I always keep it on, auto brightness doesn't have the greatest detection
all personal experience
I've always used auto brightness and on KitKat I used to always get around 6 hours of screen on time. With lollipop its between 3-4. I even tried a factory reset and it still didn't fix the issue.

Auto brightness is going to affect any phone on any os. It's just another sensor that consumes battery. If you think about it it's always on and always monitoring lighting conditions and making calculations. So disabling it will help with battery life regardless of the device. Good rule of thumb for decent battery life is disable auto brightness, location, Bluetooth, nfc and Wi-Fi when not in use.

When not in use
My screen is only on for an average of 1.5-2hrs a day. Most of my battery drain occurs during sleep. Phone does deep sleep though, but wakes up every now and then.
I've disable everything I can (including enhanced lte), and even set up a Tasker profile that keeps Sync off at all times, but enables it for 2 mins 4x a day (24hrs).
So I'm going to ask these questions even though I'm pretty sure I already know the answers.
Will turning off auto brightness affect standby battery.
And will it make any dramatic difference during the 2 or so hours that the screen is actually on?

Rather lose a little battery than eat up background mobile data instead of wifi though. Just my opinion.

I actually wasn't asking "what's killing my battery?"
I was basically just trying to ask if auto brightness will affect standby time or not. I was thinking the answer would be that with Auto on, it wouldn't affect standby battery at all since during standby, the screen isn't on, so the phone wouldn't be using battery to try and auto adjust itself.
But today I'm running my phone with Auto brightness off and so far I'm pleasantly surprised by the results. Though, today is my day off from work, so my phone is also getting atypical usage with it being on wifi all day and not being under fluorescent lighting and more standby than usual.
Edit: also, SOT has been so low today that it isn't even showing under the battery consumption list. So yeah, today has been very atypical. Lol.
I'm going to spend this week using my phone like normal, but having auto brightness on one day and off another. I'll report back here with what I notice, as well as some screenshots of battery usage.
I'm curious to see if there really is any change in battery consumption.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using Tapatalk
I don't think it's the sensor, it's how high the brightness goes. The sensor is just a small lumen counter. However, Samsung cranks the brightness really high to keep the user experience positive. It's Samsung's brightness that kills the battery, and has nothing to do with Lollipop or KK.
okay, i did something else and actually help me a lot:
Settings--->General--->Security--->Trust Agents--->Smart Lock (Goole)--->Off
And did what you guys talking about the brigthness and now i have 21 hours left!
You can bring any Samsung device to any BestBuy and they can help out by reflashing the phone and calibrating the battery. They also can help with any consumer, enterprise, and prosumer related problems. Most techs are awesome but there is the off chance you may get a bad one though. They are there to troubleshoot issues and work directly for Samsung and not best buy so they are supposed to know the phone and tablets by heart.
