Question about buying new note 2 - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

Well its more of a question of buying a phone with out the original box, there's a cellphone store near my home they have a few galaxy note 2 for sale, according to them its brand new, but they either have no box or miss matching numbers, my question is how do they get these phones? I already bought the n2 at a tmobile store and I sold my box to that guy for $20.

If no box its a pre owned phone they buy them used
Check it well check how it looks works speakers no marks etc....

Agreed. If I dont break the seal or see it done infront of me thats a used item. If they wont sell it used, take ur money elsewhere.

Have close friends at cell phone stores that hook me up. Cell phone stores with lots of traffic sometimes take the phone out of the box and use the rebates for other customers or whatever reason so that's why they take the box (since it has the serial and necessary items needed for rebate). They usually only do it for long time customers and close friends. Since they have a good amount of traffic and since the Note 2 is also relatively new they have a high chance of people buying the phone without opening/renewing contract. Like others say, inspect the phone thoroughly and bargain since it's open box to make sure that it's a good buy.

AT&T Note ll box

Im pretty pissed off about the way AT&T sent me my pre ordered note 2. Instead of the nice premium samsung box, they sent it in a crappy box. If I pay 650$ for a phone I would like the box that its suppose to come in!

I know, was happy the s3 got the international box, but we got crap here. And no headphones dumb ATT

Why would you even say that? Sounds like you do not have a Note II. I believe its already been documented that AT&T repackaged
their Note II's with their own dinky ugly little box and without the headphones.
Actually, i don't have a note 2. Since i posted above, i found out some phones were shipped that way. I'm going to edit my post as soon as i finish this one.
Fwiw, the refurbs i have purchased on the past were packaged this way. My current phone came in a pretty Samsung box.
Edit:
But all of them came with headphones
Really this is an issue? A box and a crappy headphone? The only time I saw many note 1 box was when I got it and when I sold it...

Just left the local att store and I'm dumbfounded.
What happened to the nice Samsung cloth box and included headphones that were part of the original review??
For 299 on contract or 599 off, this should be the flagship phone from att.
Instead it's packaged and sold like some Walmart special.
Now I'm really reconsidering the upgrade.
You hear that att? (Not like you care) I'm not sure I want to give you 300 + 150/mo for the next two years for our family plan.
If you're listening, that's a potential loss of commitment from me to your company of almost $4000.
Maybe that $2 box and $3 headphone package you cost reduced might have been worth it.

Honestly the last thing I thought of when I bought my phone was the box. As long as it was new, I could have cared less if it came in a shopping bag.

Maybe they should just throw it in a paper bag shake it around a bit ant tell the customer to deal with it.
Where is the futureama picture, shut up and take my money?

Yeah, it was a pretty crappy little box. But honestly I don't care, I was buying a phone not a box.
Headphone would of been nice, but no big dea. l I use Bluetooth.
Would you have preferred to pay 650 no-commitment and gotten a fancy box with a garbage phone inside?
Don't get me wrong - I agree that AT&T played a game with the box and headphones, but it's really not that big of a deal. Sure, AT&T saved $5. However, even $650 is a really good price for the NoteII with LTE. This isn't the typical AT&T downgraded hardware (as the SGS3 was) but the full blown NoteII with LTE.
As far as I've been able to tell so far, this thing is almost hardware identical to the N7105.. which sells for over $150 more than the i317 when purchased from anyone who'll honor the warranty in the US. Trust me that the box and headphones aren't worth that much.
Where do I start...
Box. Sure its just a box. I worked in the manufacturing industry for years. I know about cost savings. Makes me wonder where else the cost savings have been applied.
A box like the one Samsung uses for all their phones costs about $0.30 in mass production.
The headphones probably cost near $2.
So why does ATT feel the need to short change the customer for $3?
Are you OK when you buy a $1000 TV and it doesn't come with a remote or power cord?
This is the best phone ATT offers and the put it in a crappy box with no headphones? But you can buy the S3 and get the factory box and cool headphones for less than half the price.
If you're demanding top dollar for a product, presentation is everything.
Your tv analogy makes no sense mate.
Not even close to a freakin box and a dollar store headphone.
Sent from the Mighty Note International!
If it really bothers you that much:
A: contact Samsung and ask them for the pretty box and headphones
B: get an iPhone.
Does the lack of box really impede the performance of the phone? Do you bronze it and stick it on your mantle, or show the box off to your peers?
Seriously, at the end of the day how much does it really matter?

Earphones are generic; unlike TV remotes, they're not customized for a particular device. And when you buy a new cell phone these days, you're likely replacing a previous one for which you already have earphones or a headset--if indeed you ever use those (many folks don't). If you sell your old phone, the new owner probably doesn't want to use previously-worn earphones. So including a new pair with each phone is wasteful, for reasons that don't carry over to your TV analogy.

I did and got two pair of headphones for free ..People forget its your personal preference, if it was initially suppose to come with it then thats what customers are suppose to get, can you imagine the next iphone coming out without a apple made box and headphones, there will be riots in the street, market crashes, people quitting work, the dead will rise and walk among us..
Just go to at&t and ask politely for your headphones that were advertised as being in the box and you'll get them, as far as the box goes we are sol. .

Broken screen and Best Buy Protection

On November 11, 2012 I bought, at full price, a Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note 2 the day it became available through Best Buy Mobile. I waited for Best Buy to have it specifically for the Geek Squad Protection, which I also paid in full for, and it's reported "superior" service and protection. At 12:30pm I left the store, by 5:30pm the screen was cracked from a short fall from a bench. I took it back to the store the next evening for the GSP claim. I was told they had to send it in to try and repair it (this phone just came onto the market two weeks ago) and it could be up to 12 days before I would get it back. I have followed the tracking number and it went from Michigan to TEXAS and arrived on Thursday morning (15th) at 9:36AM and nothing more has been reported. I have called the 800 numbers and the local store to try and get some kind of update but they see nothing more then what I can by tracing the service order number. I am a Premiere Silver Rewards member since that program began and I always buy the protection plans. This is the first time I have ever waited for a product to be replaced/repaired more then a couple of days.
I am so upset about this that I may return the phone when it finally does come back, and get my old phone back. And I will change back to the Sprint protection. Sure I would have to pay a deductible, but I would have a new phone overnight instead of being without my brand new phone for over a week.
Should I come to my senses and keep the phablet, I will definitely get an Otterbox when they come out!
I hate to
I hate to inform you but because of the phone being so new that even with the Sprint Asurion insurance I still had to wait for almost 2 weeks to get my replacement. The good news was that I recieved a brand new phone because no referb were available. My phone lasted a little longer than yours, mine was about 18 hrs, 12 of which It was in a secured locker because I was at work.
I would tough it out. Im pretty sure they will send you back a new one.
Brad might i ask how much did you pay in total out the door including the insurance an taxs? I want the note 2 real bad but not willinh to pay a huge price when i hear that they break quite easy.

Got the price match to Sprint's $649.99, then did the buy back of my EVO LTE of $350 ( which I paid NOTHING for with rebates in June ) and changed over to the BB 2yr Black Tie Protection instead of the monthly payments. It was $509 out the door, so realistically I paid the $300 just like a normal update. I was happy with the deal...at the time.
Cool ima try an check at walmart where i work if they carry them they also have a 2yr accidental insurance. Thats what i have on my pc an my Nexus7. I realy want this phone
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2
Walmart accidental is one time use not like unlimited with best buy. Bite the bullet and be more careful next time.
Had an interesting chat with my local BBY store manager. She told me that I should have had a phone (either repaired/refurb/new) at 5 business days...period. It was near closing so she told me she will see to it first thing Saturday morning. She took my personal phone number and said she would call me.
BTW, no matter how careful you are, just about EVERYONE drops their phone once in a while. I have had an HTC - Hero, EVO 4G and EVO 4G LTE all of which I've dropped without them EVER breaking. So I sure didn't expect the Samsung to be any more fragile especially after watching the You Tube videos where the AndroidAuthority dropped one from different heights without any breakage. I guess I hit the "Achilles Heel" lower left corner.
Finally, I will be keeping the phone and the Best Buy Protection.
Cool everyone lives this thing waiting for mine on vzw
Final update
Today I went into my local Best Buy and true to her word the store manager called the Mobile manager and had him get me a NEW Note 2. :good:
I have a cheap case and a Clingo neck strap on it until the Otterbox is available.

YAY! thought you would.

T-Mobile REALLY wants your S3 back!

I just went to T-Mobile's trade in program to see what I would get for my GS3. The T999 fetches a pretty penny - 225 bucks. On top of that, the "new" T999L only gets 190 and the Galaxy Note 2 gets 265. A 64GB iPhone 5 is 269.99 for comparison.
Looks like T-Mobile wants to buy back as many T999s as possible, probably anticipating an uptick in exchanges on the heels of the LTE model launching.
Interestingly enough, this is much better than their father's day trade-in deal for the iPhone since it applies to any phone. Something I'm thinking about but I don't have the cash to pay the down payment up front and I'm pretty sure you still have to pay up front if you go to the store as well (although I'm not sure, I haven't called).
Just thought I would post this since this is even more than what HTC was offering on their competitor trade-up offer!

You have to have the down payment as the trade in credit can take weeks to be processed. I was offered 225 as well. But I ended up selling mine while it was still hot for enough to out down for a note 2 for the wife and n4 for me. Got tired of the Samsung game.

Yeah that was my idea too. Seems kind of silly they can't just do a quick in-store inspection and give you your credit. All they have to do is power it up, make sure its not rooted, plug it into a USB charger, and check for damage. Wouldn't take more than 5 minutes total and would dramatically increase sales for T-Mobile if everyone knew they could trade in their phone - T-Mobile still makes a profit, gets new customers and upgrades old ones, and the best part is that it moves them closer to having everyone on LTE so HSPA can be phased out sooner or left for customers that don't care about their network speed.

That's all I saw of your post.
Just looked on eBay at recently sold phones... Average seems to be around 250 but mine is in MINT condition - hell one with a cracked screen sold for 250... The Titanium Grey is selling higher than the others (probably because its the rarest filtering by listing) which is what I happen to have. Prices are all over the place on Craigslist.
I've had eBay for years but never sold anything on there. Too bad my PayPal account got frozen or I'd consider it.
Still wish T-Mobile would just inspect it in the store though, much less of a hassle. lol. I suppose I can call them and see if they can just bill the phone to the account - we've had them for forever.

If I had a regular SIM card I would just use my Samsung Captivate for a little bit while I sold my SGS3 (its really not a bad phone, hell LiquidSmooth 2.6 is even out for that old thing and I'm in a refarmed market to boot so I wouldn't lose 3G) but I don't so yeah.
It doesn't surprise me that people aren't biting on Craigslist. Although here in Denver that's how most people buy and sell things online, hardly anyone I know uses eBay for anything other than super rare stuff so who knows.
I think I'll have to talk to my roommate about billing it to the account if T-Mobile will let us... I don't know though, my S3 still does everything I need it to and I don't have any real issues with it, I just want something new. LMAO.

Any ways T-Mobile dropped that GS4 to $99 who cant afford $99? trade in your phone with tmobile and use it as credit to pay for the phone faster. People on extremely fixed incomes can't afford 99 dollars. I'm fighting disability right now so I get 175 a month from the state of Colorado while I go through the long process with Social Security.
Oh and I fixed my PayPal account... I can't believe all I had to do was call and verify some information with them. If I had known that I would have done that back in October! So now I might just sell my GS3 and get an S4 or One. Torn between the two - don't like non-expandable storage but the One being able to run any ROM from at&t, T-Mo OR International is a HUGE plus to me.

That GS4 is able to run any rom from any carrier in the states and even the international! Go to any carrier s4 forum and you will see... One of the reason I would trade my s3 for the s4 in a heart bit because of it.... And you know samsung is faster than htc in updating phones.. So if a new update comes to the international you can flash it on any carrier us s4.. Witch is pretty cool in my part..

Okay well you just made my decision a ton easier, especially if the 99 down price point is T-Mobile's now standard pricing for the S4. I couldn't really see any other reason to get the One (I really like having an SD card and "Boom Sound" is nice but I found myself covering up the speakers anyway holding the phone in landscape) and with the 7500mAh Zero Lemon battery out for the S4, its kind of a no-brainer especially since it fixes the design flaw with the speaker on the S4 and shoots the sound out the sides.
I wasn't aware that you could flash any carrier ROM to the S4. Apparently that was just in the beginning of the launch then? Sweet!

Yeah people with the s4 are flashing international roms like crazy out of the box... But remember dont flash a rom with the modem witch now days none comes with a modem hehehe.. I played with one today and I really liked it.. I think I may get it and not wait for the note 3.. Really I like the note 2 and that 5'5 screen is big enough.. I Kinda think about it if i want a note 2 but rumors says the that note 3 will be 6'' screen.. I really dont think I will like it that much..
As we on the S3 we can port any carrier rom to ours but not international.. And look how long they been having 4.2.x roms. and we dont have a leak yet.. Flashing roms from international like on the s4 is priceless lol.. I really dont know why XDA had to split these forums.. And not make one. Like on the HTC Sensation.. It was one forum for all Sensations worldwide.
Not to mention that Samsung is MUCH more dev friendly than HTC. Since the One series it just seemed to me that HTC was trying to become too much like the icrap. Plus No expandable storage, no removable battery, locked bootloaders, etc.... any one of these is a deal killer in my book.

it is safe as long as you meet in a public place like a Starbucks or something.

You run the risk of buying a stolen devices or from a person who has been delequent on payments. For this reason, I would personally not buy and always will never buy any cellphones from craigslist. I see too many horror stories. But if you insist on buying Id make sure to ask the right questions before you buy and test the device before paying

When I buy phone off Craig's I meet only at T-mobile store and have store clerks check with T-mobile Customer Service to make sure phone is paid off and not reported stolen, then I ask to notate my account that I am the owner of the phone now and it being paid for.
This way old owner has no legal right to claim it stolen, since he is right there present with me along with store of other witnesses.

Never thought of doing it that away. Smart
Just sold my Note 2 on Craigslist. Went very smooth. Nice young lady. Even made a little extra cash unlocking it for her.

No because even if you go to t mobile the phone is legit the person can later say the phone is stolen n then your phone is messed up

Not If the imei is transferred to a different account. Also, if this is a concern you can get a signed sales record.
Plus AFAIK, they don't blacklist stolen phones anyway. There's been some pressure from government officials to make this happen. But I don't think there's been anything yet.

Why not I bought one for 350 and I'm typing on it now lol

I bought one for 550 and this Tuesday my service went out, when I called they told me my phone was reported lost. I just told the guy, I have it right here. And he unblocked it.
TRUE STORY:
I bought a phone from CL, met at a TMobile location, ask them to transfer the IMEI to my line. so far so good??
No... I used the phone for a few month and one morning, no more network. I try my ATT SIM and it works. I call TMobile, they tell me I need to change the SIM what I do, still nothing. I send the phone to Samsung, they dont see any issue.
Call back to TMo, they tell me the phone was declared stolen and there is NOTHING I can do because I am not the original buyer!! a complete RIP-OFF.
The worst is that they wont take any responsability
At least ATT transfer the number to your account as long as you have the info of the previous owner so the phone really belongs to you while TMobile just say there is nothing they can do.
I first believe this blacklist system would be a great thing to avoid stolen phones, but the way it is implemented is so wrong that the only looser is the guy at the end of the food chain.
If you buy from CL, ALWAYS ask for the original receipt!!!! if they dont have it, it is fishy! and if you can have a bill of sale

Seems like some folks are claiming insurance fraud then selling the phones then the IMEI becomes black listed - very bad ethically and morally.
I personally have sold a few of my old iphones and more recently Galaxy S4 with no paperwork. The person checks it out it works give me cash and then bye bye. I try and prevent giving them my receipts or documents as they contain personal information on them. However I would show them it if asked.
Just curious why would some people sell their note 3 craigs list and not return it under the 14 days? Perhaps they have an upgrade and want to cash it out for a profit?

Yeah, they sell it for cash, but that doesn't make sense at all with T-Mobile now. Since you end up paying $700 for a phone. There is no point in selling it for $500 on craigslist unless you plan to commit fraud or whatever. Now, if it's contract like the other carriers, it makes sense and you can make a little bit of money.
All I can say is meet at the T-Mobile store and verify the phone is paid off. Then if possible (not sure if they would allow this) ask a T-Mo rep to make a note on the seller's account that the phone is being sold to your account and vice versa on your account. If the seller is okay with this, then it should give you a hint that he's a somewhat honest person, but anything can still happen. I say just buy the phone from T-Mobile, authorized retailer, or Newegg/Amazon.

Good points raised. I was going to return mine and get a craigs list used T mobile version, but it ain't worth the 200 dollar or less saving for me. Like you mentioned why would they sell the t mobile one when they can get their money back from store minus 50 perhaps.
Bought mine for 600 yesterday it was still sealed I love this phone so much!

You have to take precautions.
Have something in writing when buying or selling. Include the serial number and IMEI number then both sign it.
I have sold and bought a handful of phones with no problems. Yes I do consider myself lucky because stuff does happen.
Avoid PayPal and high check amount transactions. They are scams.
phones
I didn't know tmo had changed like this... I thought you could just pop in a sim card and be done... so now there like sprint and verizon with a id per phone?
Ya, I've seen several times, someone pays the initial down payment on a phone (or 0 down), sells the phone for full price, then defaults on the payment. The buyer usually doesn't find out for 3 months. Definitely meet at a store.

[Q] Help me with testing a used SGN 3

I'm looking at a used T-Mobile Galaxy Note 3, unlocked, tomorrow.
What should I look out for, so I don't get landed with a problematic unit?
It's had a fall, and the seller had the screen replaced. Front camera is not working.
It's very, very affordable, and I'll never be able to buy one at full price.
I just don't want to find out that a whole bunch of other hidden stuff is not working, after handing over the money.
And the Note 3 is pretty complex, compared to my old Dinc2.
Is there a "test mode", where hardware errors would show up?
The front camera replacement is really cheap, and I'm handy with fixing things, as long as I can find a good guide, so I'm hoping to end up with a fully functioning phone at the fraction of the price.
Of course, there will be no warranty, but at least I won't have to worry about Knox and can root the phone.
The biggest thing I can think of is a blocked IMEI. You should probably have the exchange done at a T-Mobile store and have them check it. Also have them note it in your and the sellers accounts that ownership has changed so he can't call tomorrow and claim the phone stolen and get it blocked b

Thanks! I'll definitely meet outside a T-mobile store!
There are too many dishonest people selling stuff on craigslist, unfortunately.

Also be sure to confirm the seller has paid off the device if they stop making the payment after selling it to you the device will get blacklisted.

Just make sure there is no EIP left on the phone and also have T Mobile transfer the IMEI to your account there and then. Also for the test do type in *#0*#
Meet INSIDE the store please. And make sure its not a fake by verifying the serial number in settings and also back of the battery.
