Guys im having an issue with my week old s3...my battery power hit 0 percent and phone turned off and now when i plug it in it wont turn on. It will give me the little battery icon for less than a second before shutting off. I am getting no response from the phone and dont know what to do. I tried volume+ up and volume +down to no avail. Im pretty irritated at this point and need some insight. Have tried diffrent chargers and they all give me battery icon before shutting of.
What room are you on?
Have you tried just letting it charge and sit there
When my s3 but zero I plugged it in
Didn't lead power till like 5 min afterwards and it worked fine

Having the exact same problem on my phone as well running FreeGS3 v3.0 and Ktoonz kernel.
This is how I fixed mine.
Plug it in and get it to show the empty battery with a circle in it. Once you see that plug it in and leave it alone for a while at least five minutes, yes the battery sign should only stay for a second. It should just go black screen no charging light.*After five minutes or so unplug it, pull the battery, and put it back in leave the phone unplugged and hold the power button a while. Some times they act weird when they dieThis is how I fixed mine.

When you plug it in, and see the icon, let it go for on charge for about 10s, unplug the usb, then hold the power button and see if it turns on then.
Mine will be in my pocket and won't respond like it is off. I have to hold the power button for 10seconds and it will come back on This is only happening shortly after a full charge. FreeGS3 Rom.
So is this a rom issue?

I made a thread because I was having the exact same problem. Click on the link I attached in my first post. It's from the T-Mobile GS3 because they are having the same issue. The last post said flashing back to stock fixed the problem.
Just ran into this issue yesterday. I threw the battery into a standalone Anker charger for a while to get some juice back, and the phone powered up and charged fine from there.
I'm also on FreeGS3/ktoonsez.

Borrow a friends battery and switch roms

Also had this issue with ktoonz's kernel and freegs3. Went back to stock kernel and it's fine. I ended up using a friend's phone to get battery to charge.

I recently was experiencing my phone auto booting. When i take out the battery and place it back in the phone it automatically restarts without me pressing the power button... this happens also when i use the power button to shut down. The only time it doesnt reboot is when i have the charger plugged in. I have no idea why this is happening, i wiped and reflashed my rom (mexdroidmod, its awesome) and it continued. I then rewiped and flashed osimood and the autobooting was still there... help?

it might have to do with timing. if u take ur battery out and put right back in mine reboots but if i leave it out for more than 5 sec it stays off. idk bout power button.

Sadly i left my battery out for a hour and when i placed it in again it reboots..... this doesnt affect my phones performance i am just terrified that its a sign of worse things to come... (came from the dreaded bell galaxy s with its sd card issues.... never getting samsung again.... )

I have the exact same problem. I just realized yesterday. It's worth investigating.
Sounds like it might be a hardware issue. Power button might be broken. Maybe? Now I've I have read you posts again I'm not sure if it is or not.
I also have this problem, just found it out.
When I power off the phone it will shut down, and then boot automatic.
hmm interesting i thought it was only me and noone else becuase no other person posted this issue ever lol think i should make a poll in the general section for people to try this since many people may have it without knowing...
I am not sure about the power button... it still wakes the phone up no problem.
ill probably make the poll this.
Yes, Rooted

GREAT NEWS!
as posted by edkeys in cm7 nightly thread, drain your battery to 0% and let the device turn itself off completly dead, plug into charger and let it charge ~4 hours or until your light turns green. unplug charger, phone will boot, load up your rom, power down, AND IT STAYS OFF!

It doesn't work, phone turns itself off.
Plug into charger and the phone boots...
It might take a few tries. I had to drain the battery 3 times and then let it fully charge for about 4-6 hours. On the third time trying it, it finally shuts down without auto rebooting.

Just pulled it for the 6th time.
It doesn't seem to work.
Pretty sure it is. From a battery pull, phone will not power up. After pressing the power button the phone will vibrate once after a few seconds, but nothing else. Attempting to boot into the bootloader (power+volume down) does absolutely nothing. Any suggestions?
Pull the battery then plug it into the charger and let it charge for about an hour then try to turn it on.

It's not due to a drained/dead battery. I should have mentioned I already ruled that out. I did just that, plus tested with a spare battery. No change.

I'm happy to report I've successfully unbricked my phone. For those curious about the actions I took, continue reading.
First off, what caused my phone to behave the way it did is beyond me. I had a hunch the phone was powering up and booting though as it was giving me that vibrate.
Here's what I did. Pulled the battery and let it sit for 5 min. Reinserted the battery and connected the phone to my computer. It gave me the charge indicator LED. I pressed the power button and let sit for about another 5 minutes. No indication from the phone that anything was happening mind you.
I ran a RUU to see if it saw the phone. Low and behold it did. The phone still appeared dead. I let the RUU run and do it's thing. After completion my phone successfully rebooted and loaded up just fine.
Although I do not know what caused the anomaly, I suspect firmware corruption/malfunction.
Anyway, all seems to be well now.
*phew*
So, I woke up this morning and I went to go check some messages on my phone, but when I checked, the phone wouldn't turn on. I charged it like I usually did and when I got to it, the blue led light was flashing. Not brightly, but just like it would try to turn on, but it can't so the light slowly fades away. I tried to hold the power + volume buttons (both up and down) but it still wouldn't do anything. Any help before I take it into sprint?

can you charge the battery? is the battery loose? I would take it to sprint and let them check it out.
Yeah. I think I might just take it back to sprint. But it won't charge at all I think.
Pull the battery and leave it out for a few minutes then try again.

I've done that and I actually start seeing the empty battery logo. But It's only for a second. I think there's a problem with the battery or the charger thing

Just kidding. It's charging. Anyone know if I should be worried about anything?
Are you using an after market charger?

Get a brand new quality USB cable. A HUGE amount of issues can be resolved by just doint this, believe me.
I was using the charger cable it came with but connected to my computer
well your computer USB port can only push 500mA out max. sounds like its undercharging your phone. the stock charger pushes 1000mA or 1A.
Running Slim Bean for about a week. Phone just shuts off tonight. Leave it plugged in for about an hour and all I get is a little vibration and battery icon when I press the power button. I've only had the phone for three weeks. I'm going to try and exchange the battery tomorrow but will my phone being rooted be an issue since I can't even boot up to unroot?
I would flash back to stock and verify is actually the battery, just do a nandroid before.
Have you tried booting to recovery, or dl mode

If you're using a USB charger (plugged into your laptop or something), try using a wall charger or possibly a car charger.
Connected to my OEM wall charger. The device won't turn on at all, I'm guessing the battery draine while I was at work.
Have you tried taking out the battery and putting it back in?

Yes. I think its a bad battery but Im at least trying to get it to boot up so I can unroot. Nothing on the screen comes up when I plug it in. If I hold the power button while its plugged in, an empty battery icon will pop up, the phone will vibrate, and the screen will go blank again.
If it's been on your charger for a while, pull the battery out for a full minute. Replace and try to boot.
Did you ever figure this one out? I have ran Slim Bean for a few days and I can't charge my phone now. It completely drained and now it displays the grey battery icon with the spinning "thinking" circle for about half a second and then goes black. I can only reproduce this after taking out the battery for 10 seconds, placing it back in, then plugging it into the OEM wall charger. ATT SGS 3, owned since release.
same here

After 1 hour I unplugged from charger then took battery out put back in , to turn on hold vol up +power+home after it vibrates let go now u should b in recovery. Now wipe cache wipe dalvik, factory reset, now flash a rom that u might have on ur sd and ur done...... worked for me...

Flashed Lifeless last night. Everything was working fine, left the phone charging at 10% then today I wake up to a dead phone. Wont charge, wont boot. Only sign of life is holding the power button down for like 20 sec and the battery LED will turn on for like 20 sec but only if its plugged in. What gives? Anyone have any idea what might be going on?
Plug into a 2 amp charger or do a battery pull.

I can get the red light as well but nothing else. I have pronounced the Phone as DEAD and have already bought a new phone(funds are tight so it was a was crappy situation). If ANYONE has a real working solution to this PLEASE tell us!(I'd greatly appreciate it)

Similar situation
I'm on stock but had the same problem. Phone totally discharged, plugged it into my car charger, phone got hot by camera but did not charge. Got home plugged it into stock charger, same thing. Battery charging on screen, phone hot, then dim light on screen. tried for a day or so, no luck.
Tried holding power button for 20-30 seconds, nothing, Vol up and down + power, nothing. By accident held power and vol up and charging light came on, held it for a minute, and it stayed on, let go, out it went. As a last resort, put two rubber bands around the phone to hold in power and Vol up and bingo! Charging light stayed on! left it overnight and found the phone completely charged in the AM, green light flashing. Been working fine for days, Willnot let it get too low of a charge in the future.
