[Q] [HELP] Titanium backup cannot access backup location! - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Hello I've been using AOSP rom for while and after flashing into stock based rom. The TB backup is not working the error message it keeps saying is "The Current backup location ("/storage/extSdCard/download/titaniumbackup") cannot be accessed.
Can anyone help about how to solve this problem ?

/storage/extsdcard is the filepath stock uses. for aosp you need tibackup to look in /storage/sdcard1
edit: i misread your post, sorry. it does seem like it's going to storage/extsdcard/download though, is that where you normally store your titanium backups? that may be your problem
sent from my I747

Have you tried having tb search for the backup location from within preferences?

Just open tibu, hit the menu button, Preferences, backup folder location, hit the back button until you see storage, find ext card (or whatever the name is where your backups are located), scroll down until you find the titanium backup folder, hit use current. Done...

This did not work for me...once back in the main tb window I get the same error "location cannot be accessed"
I tried getting TB to detect the backup which it did fine...but going back to the main window it shows a big red cross on "backup folder" and also the "location" error
I'm using hellybean 4.2 with cwm touch 6.0.2
I'm having the same issue restoring a nandroid backup
I've just run a backup to test...cwm reports it stored on /sdcard
but total commander reports it at being at /data/media and no sign of it at /scard, /sdcard/0 or /storage/emulated/0?????
I have posted a thread in Q+A here if anyone can help I'd be very grateful

I found this thread through Google search, since I was having the same problem on my Sprint GN2. I rebooted into recovery, fixed permissions, and the problem went away.
My apologies if this info is available elsewhere - I just figured other people might find this thread the same way I did, and would like a possible solution without having to comb through fifty threads to find it.

Thanks, bud. You saved me. I was freaking out on my Sprint GS4. Popped into TWRP, did as you said, and bam! Thank you!

I'm searching everywhere. I was promoted by a message telling me my SU may not be working well with 4.3 so upgrade. I installed chainfire and it promoted an updated and booted to recovery a flashed something that made it work now./

If you can't see fix permissions in philz recovery, you can try an app which you can find on play store named "fix permissions". it did the same thing as the option on recovery. If this not help, try to go on option "mounts and storage" in recovery, and mount sdcard1. This will surely help (hopefully) !!

This didn't work for me anyone else have any ideas? I'm running Verizon galaxy note II i605 with 4.4.2 stock ROM rooted. tested the rooting, all good there, fixed permissions in TWRP and still have the red x and backup directory not available when I go into Menu/Preferences/back up folder location to change the location no matter what location I pick it says This folder is not writable?

Uninstall titanium, then reinstall from the play store.
This is a new kk security feature. If i remember right, apps can now only write to folders they create. Im guessing you're apps and folders were installed while on 4.3 and thus they did not claim the folders they need the way they must now do on kk. Thats my basic understanding of it anyway. I hope this helps.

Yes its a bug, see here for fix http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2572354

FYI:
If you have your midroUSB connected to your computer while launching and working with Titanium Backup, you will get the "cannot access" backup dir error.
Simply unplug from the microUSB and try again.

I have to bump this thread as I am encountering this problem.
Running a new clean install of AICP rom, Titanium Backup is the only thing I've installed from Play Store.
When I go into Preferences, detect the backup location, and then select it, Titanium Backup FCs.
Tried fixing permissions from recovery as suggested and it still didn't work, still FCs.
Has this happened to anyone recently?

maybe try a re-install from DL folder ? has happened to me when restoring apps from tibu. and re-install and works for me. just an idea. ¿
"all i can really do is stay out of my own way and let the will of heaven be done"

I could not get any of the above solutions to work for me. I am running DOK2 5.1.1 lollipop.
What worked for me is going into TB> menu> preferences>backup folder location.
Above the " DETECT!" button is a Storage Provider hyperlink-- select it.
Select the appropriate file management system and voila!
Hopefully it works for you all.

Can't use Titanium Backup anymore...

Hi, I am sorry I have to open another thread but I am very desperate!
I used "One Click Root" to root my SGS and worked great!
After I installed Titanium Backup to removed some default apps. So far so good.
The problem comes when i installed Clockwork Recovery to backup my Rom before removing the apps. I followed the guide, the phone rebooted but didn't go to the new recovery screen (yes, I had the update.zip in the right place). After rebooting the Titanium Backup said I didn't have a rooted rom.
I runned "One Click Root and Unroot" many times and wiped my phone to stock. After rooting the Titanium Backup keeps telling me the same.
How can I fix this? I am afraid this is not my only problem since my phone can't connect anymore to my AP (it can't get an ip address).
Please help me!
What version of firmware, plus any custom rom packages and/or kernel mods, were you using? It's hard to help without knowing some really basic info like that.

I have stock rom JF5 with update-1. All other apps seem to see my root priviledges. But the titanium can't! And I cant find to fix My AP connection problem. Is tere a way to REALLY clean my SGS or to fix this? All I did was the steps I said before...
Maybe you need latest busybox installed. Do a search on forums for version 1.17. Also email the developer as titanium backup has has lots of problems on age for me with restores and only the 3.3. 5.2 only kinda works for me

Will do. Now i will go to bed (it's 5 a.m. in Portugal) and tomorrow i'll give you feedback. hope it works. I should have removed the apps before... now I have to endure with them still and worst with no way to remove them... Thanks for you help!

No I didn't because I could't store my stock rom. Would an upgrade to Froyo (the official one) fix this? I can't connect to any wi-fi network (can't seem to fix an IP address...).
By using a terminal emulator can I reconfigure my wi-fi configuration or IP aquisition? How could I do this?

Those were the stpes I followed the first time and it worked great. After trying Clock Recovery then Titanium stoped working. I managed to fix my WLAN problem (so so). I can use Wi-Fi if I connect with a static IP but for that i need to connect to the network first with a computer so I can get the DNS IP. It's more trouble but at least my Wi-Fi works again!
Still no go on Titanium....

[Q] Can someone tell me the correct way to use Titanium Backup?(

I tried on my own and after running it on new rom I get a "Parse error" type of message.
First I nandroid backup/swipe.
Then install the new rom(SPrint lovers 3.7)
Then I went right to the marketplace and downloaded TB again.
It tells me to go to settings/applications and check the install "Unknown apps install" button. so I do that.
Then I open TB again and go to batch, then I selected the restore all apps options and it gives me a error.
I read somewhere it says you have to install them one by one?
I read somewhere something about you have to mount a few programs or something?
I know I was able to do then in batch but try one by one it might work.

I see, well can you list the steps you would take to RESTORE the saved apps because I don't know if I did it the correct way or just forgot to install a side app.
well i figured it out from the link posted above, thanks. so i'll give it one more try.
I would recommend on buying the full version. Make sure you tap on PROBLEMS and then download BusyBox. Afterwards you can hit MENU-BATCH and BACKUP USER APPS. I'd recommend not messing with any of the other options. If you flash different ROM's a lot it's better to just backup the apps ONLY.
If you were to do for example BACKUP USER APPS and SYSTEM DATA that could potentially bring a whole bunch of errors on your new ROM's and tons of Force Closes.
What I prefer to do is to manually download all my apps between ROM swaps and then using Titanium Backup to restore the data. An example of what I'm talking about is if you have a game that you regularly play, you'd want to restore your data so you don't have to go through the game again. Hope that's simple enough to understand.
You said when you try to download it from the market it says check install unknown applications? Its not suppose to do that... You must have downloaded it and tried installing through a app like astro. If so download another version and try.

[Fix]Unknown error code during application install: "-24"

I don't know the cause. I have noticed that it has happened on different devices, there have been assumptions if it's because of a specific kernel or rom, although it may be, I beg to differ. I feel it is happening during the Android Upgrading Apps # of # process.
I noticed that this error pops up on most of the apps that I had installed, but are not there after my update. So far with me, it happened only to my paid apps, but not all of them.
When the app disappears, android thinks it's missing, but some files think it is still installed.
Regularly when you install an app over itself, there is a notice telling you that the application info will remain. That's where the problem lies once an app mysteriously disappears. Because part of it is still installed.
Go to
/data/data/
and search for your
com.application-address.whatever-it-may-be
Some of them you can tell what they are just by the names, the others, google-em.
If you wish to keep the information that it contains for the app, I recommend making a copy of it first.:good:
Delete it
Install the application, it'll work, trust me. :fingers-crossed:
Now replace it with your copy.
Done.
Stop factoring resetting if you don't want to. Of course, if you have a lot missing, it might be better. :crying:
If someone can automate this process by making something check the com.address to installed apps, that would be awesome. :highfive:
This totally worked. Thanks bro!
I was setting up my Nexus 4, and this was Tune In Radio Pro was the last app and wouldn't install, I kept getting that stupid -24 error.
Saved me from doing a factory reset!
Works!

I'm also stuck. I was able to go to sdcard/data, but there is no second /data folder.
I have this issue with Swiftkey and there is no 'data/data/' folder, checked both root and sdcard and hidden files are shown ...
Edit: Configured ES File Explorer to mount partition as writable and gave root access -> files were there now and deleting the one with Swiftkey solved my problem.
Thx

Anyone one you know anything about android..!?!?!?!
U need to root first...!!!
Worked for me as well.
You need to use something like ES File Browser with Root access to get to /Data/Data
I'm running into this issue with a bunch of apps that got lost when flashing a newer CM10.1 nightly. I can't access those folders in data/data since ES File Manager is one of the apps that gets this error!
Is there any other way to fix this? I can't install anything, not even Chrome :crying:
It's worked for me, too!
Someone maybe didn't understand the meaning of the thread creater. You must have the root access. Then, open Root Explore and go to "data/data" NOT "sdcard/data/data"

In case it might help someone else I thought I'd pass along what I just did to fix the problem. I booted into recovery and found the com.speed.... file for root explorer that way and deleted it and then rebooted. I then was able to load and install root explorer from the play store and now I can sit back and delete all the rest of the apps that won't install correctly...
I guess I could have done it from recovery also but I forgot to write them all down before I rebooted!

Worked Like a Charm Thank you for you help

At My Wits End

ok so heres what has happened. I dropped and broke my Sprint Gs3 scrren + digitizer. Luckily i was on someone elses plan at the time, so i simply created a new plan in my name and got a replacement Gs3 that way. (since the plan i was on had no insurance).
The problem im having is with only 1 app in particular. Its a game called Guilty Dragon, and its only in Japanese. i didnt know until i broke the first phone, that all my character data is stored in 'data/app' folder. the game itself lets you backup you character via logging into twitter, which is supposed to make it easy to migrate your character in situations like this one. Problem is, every time i try to use that twitter function to restore my character data to my new phone, the app crashes. I've already contacted Namco Bandai in Japanese, still no response from them about this. I was hoping there would be some way to get the data/app folder backed up from the original, now broken digitizer, phone, since it is still recognized on my pc with a usb cable. I've tried APK Batch Installer tool v1.5, but it did not back up the data like it said it did, instead it put an empty data folder in the backup directory. Any help, thoughts or suggestions would be much appreciated, im on a SPH-L710 with JellyBombRom v13.0.0 , i tried updating to v 15 at first but it was doing the same thing with this app so i thought maybe it was the cause, downgraded to what i had before and still the same problem. I dont think its a problem with the rom though since i even just basic rooted and tried the game before flashing roms and it still also did the same thing.
Is the broken phone rooted? If not, then there's no way you can access the broken phones /data/app directory.
You could potentially try doing an adb backup (Google it) and it may or may not back that up
It your phone is rooted you could also initiate a recovery backup onto the ext sdcard (yes, while the phone is still booted up) and then just advanced restore the data

yes the old phone is rooted, they are both basically the same TWRP recovery with JellyBomb v13.0.0. how am i supposed to do a recovery backup (I'm guessing you mean nandroid) when TWRP needs you to touch it to do so, and my digitizer is broken?

That, or online nandroid dude
Maybe i should point out that the nandroid is not going to help. I already had a nandroid backup of the old phone, when i restored it on the new phone, data/app was not carried over or not backed up by the nandroid. the app itself works on bluestacks, using the Twitter account migration method, but it just keeps force closing on the phone.

Then you didn't make a proper nandroid or select the right options. A nandroid essentially copies your entire rom and put its in a folder on your sdcard. Either you did something wrong, or the nandroid didn't go right.

Could it also be that the game data is linked to the Android ID (also known as ) of the phone? I know for some games, even if I restored my TiBu backups it wouldn't work because the Android ID changed. I know with TiBu Pro you can change it. I don't think that'd cause the FCs on the app... most likely shoddy programing caused that.

hmm, might be worth buying TiBu pro if i can change it and try that. how would i be able to find my old id though with a broken Digitizer? Only other thing i can think of is that , there were some reports of the twitter backup not working for a few users on the version before last, i Migrated to bluestacks after my first phone broke, using v2.1 of the game, once i got my new phone there was a new apk release for v2.2 of the game, might be causing the twitter migration option to not work again. With TWRP its pretty damn fool proof to make a nandroid, just hit backup, then swipe, and system data boot and recovery are selected choices by default. could it be that The Android ID is conflicting with the nandroid also? i have like 10 nandroid backups i can try from, only tried 2 so far, maybe ill try a few more.

Open your backup and go to /data/data/package-name-of-game-here/ and check to see if that directory even exists and if there are files there.

Remove Bloatware from T-Mobile Note 2

I searched many various sites including this one to try and find the best and safest way to uninstall bloatware. I tried Titanium Pro and when I tried to Backup/Restore and selected an app to delete it then rebooted my Note 2. I looked back into B/R and found the item was still there. There was a message indicating that it may take 2 or 3 reboots to complete the uninstall.
I am looking for an app that will run and unistall all bloatware that is safe to use or gives you the option to select apps to unistall. I did download one which looked very good and even listed the apps it would uninstall. It was SuperNote2 DeBloatware which was a zip file. It would not unzip and I could not get it to unzip after numerous downloads.
Anyone have a suggestion? Thanks in advance.

Sorry I didn't post that. Yes, it is rooted. I did that a coupple of days ago using Kingo Android Root. Very quick (less than 3 minutes) and simple.
Thanks for your reply and help.

I did find that posting yesterday and downloaded mrRobinson_Note_II_De_Bloater.v1.00.zip to my PC. When I unzipped this file I saw folders:
apps
assets
meta-inf
These folders dated back to 2/28/2008. So, I was very unsure to use this.
When I opened:
apps it contained: GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk
Assets contained; common, fonts, icons, langs and themes.
Meta-inf contained: Com, Cert, Cert and manifest.
This just did not look right for what this was suppose to do. So, I left it.
Your opinion?

You are using a custom recovery, aren't you? CWM or TWRP ... Just follow the instructions in the 1st post. Boot into recovery and select that file and click custom and either run the program or just look through the files that you can remove and exit if you don't want to use the program.
Or, you could just install a custom ROM and not have to worry about this?

That thread is quite old and if you noticed, somewhat inactive with some issues reported. I always use Titanium Backup to "freeze" apps - this usually removes them from being active (and thus saving CPU and battery) but they still remain should you want them. It's a simple and painless process as you are not really deleting them and they do not use much memory anyway.
Here's a great list for the Samsung Galaxy line of devices from Android Forums: http://androidforums.com/metropcs-cdma-galaxy-s3-all-things-root/695070-safe-apps-remove.html

I honestly suggest using a custom rom instead... there are lists out there of apps to remove but it is more based on whats safe to remove vs not safe... ultimately its all user dependant (ie what apps do you use vs what someone else uses)... for me, I love to just install either CM (as reliable and "bare" as any of the roms come) or Jedi roms via aroma (if you still want to hang on to the TouchWiz side of things)... Aroma installs allow you to choose the bloatware you want to have and disregard the ones you dont want... there are tons of tutorials online that take you step by step... make sure you follow the directions (completely) and happy flashing!!

Thank you all for all your suggestions and help. I will try your suggestions and report back on what I did. Thanks again!!!
Started looking at the various ROMs. What is the easiest to flash and your recommendations?
Thanks!

Dont know if you are still in need of help trying to figure out how to flash roms but, you would first need to install a custom recovery. The two major recoveries are TWRP and CWM. They're on par. I used CWM for years but switched to TWRP. From there you first want to make a backup of your original rom and flash as many roms you want to try out. If you dont like the rom, just restore. I dont know how familiar you are with flashing roms but it takes like one try and you pretty much do the same thing over and over.

Thanks for your advise and help. Just got through uninstalling all recommended bloatware via TBpro. Will look at your recommendations. Thanks again!
MTP USB Device?
I thought I was doing great after uninstalling bloatware. However, when I tried to connect my Note 2 to my PC via USB I received the error that MTP USB Device driver could not be loaded. Apparently I must have uninstalled something on my Note 2 that is not allowing me to connect to the PC via USB. I have been searching all day, downloading various Driver apps to no avail. I even downloaded and installed Samsung Drivers which also did not work.
It never ends. Fix one thing and then another pops up. LOL
What else can I say except - H-E-L-P.
I still can use my USB plug from NOTE 2 to my Flash Drive to get stuff transfered to/from Note2/PC.

can you reflash? I hope so! There is sitll a way to reflash from sd card thought and install stock f/w or if you could remember or figure out which apk is responsible for that function. ...
That latter option is why I started this

ps this is why its so important to make a backup in twrp or cwm....google it or find it here! they also call it a nandroid backup...VERY IMPORTANT for issues like this. As previsouly stated you should be able to put the stock rom (check out sammobile's web page for official f.w) on the sd card and from there you can boot into recovery mode and install it from there. I believe. If that don't work look into mobile odin which I have never used. sorry for he typos lazy!
