i rooted my tmobile galaxy s3 about a week before the update came out
i have version 4.0.4 now.
and today got tired of clicking the postphone message every day for last month or so.
first time i accidentally clicked update and it failed obviously its rooted
then i selected unroot from superSU and tried that way because i red some people had sucess that way but again triangle dead droid
today i RErooted the phone again and installed triangle away and cleared the count.
tried to update and same dead droid triangle
at this point im kinda lost as to what needs to be done i dont want to brick my phone and not sure if unroot option in super SU will work or not.
i would like to keep a stock rom i had enough headaches with HD2 custom roms and prefer to stay with stock right now.
btw which update is the phone trying to install is it the jelly bean?
and also every time i click update the phone starts over downloading 330mb file. is there a way to save it?
u need to odin back stock recovery.

If you want to have rooted stock jelly bean then just download the stock root66 in the development section and flash that via Odin. It will leave you with a stock recovery but you will be prerooted. Download goo manager or Rom manager which ever you prefer to install the recovery of your choice. Then flash away. I'll get the link to the thread.

ok I got a real good deal on a GNEX on CL and the guy said it wasn't rooted and smart me believed him. Well from what I can tell the bootloader is unlocked, and it is rooted because I ran root checker and it has superuser and wifi tether. It does not seem to have a custom rom on it The problem I see is that it seems to have stock recovery but when I go from the bootloader screen to recovery it reboots the phone most of the time after sitting on the image of the android guy with a red triangle over him. I plan on doing the JB OTA update when it comes out . At this state I am just not sure what I should do to make my phone not mess up in the long run. I was thinking unrooting and locking the bootloadder and re flashing stock recovery would be a good idea kind of starting from scratch. Please let me know what yall think and thanks for your time oh and I am on Sprint
Yeah just Odin back to stock you should be fine. Also you'll be waiting a long time for an OTA of jelly bean at least on sprint. We already have a port of the preview OTA that the gsm version got. Only thing doesnt work is MMS for obvious reasons.

U can come back to stock recovery without any problem u can use gnex toolkit u ll be fine i guess , However JB rom available now are also awesome it works great without any problem ,except some apps yet to be updated for JB update
Stay away from toolkits. You can Fastboot flash the .img for the stock recovery boot and rom it self.

No, Odin only works on windows.
There is no need for the SDK, all you need are the fastboot and adb files for Mac.
Look at the "flash" link in my signature. It has all the instructions on how to revert you device to stock. Mac-specific instructions are linked to a little further down.

I was using Ics on galaxy s3, I rooted the phone and it was working fine. Today I update from ICS to Official Jelly Bean 4.1. I then went ahead and use the S3 tool kit to root the phone, now when phone reboot I can hear the sound but all I can see is blank screen. I can go to download mode, CWM recovery and that is it. Any idea?
I have the original odin file that I can use to reinstall the ICS.
I want to install official JB and want to root that. Any help out ther will be appreciated.

First get your phone out of boot loop, use one of the stock files posted in the dev section (use the JB one since that's what you want to be on). Then use Odin to flash a custom recovery, boot into the recovery and flash the team epic root zip. Go to qbking77.com for a how to vid on the root process and links for the files you need. Its very simple.

I have already installed official JB successfully. Just need to root it now. Thanks for the help.

Well now you cant run an update with a custom recovery on board and since you started it there is prolly a file or the OTA server thinks you have it installed and is not offering it again.
Best thing to do on phones where you have custom recovery? Look here on the boards for the Stock ROIM of the version you want. If you wanted it un-rooted [no super user] then look in the returning to stock thread, if you want supersu (have your phone rooted) then look for a ROM of your choice based on the Android Version of your choice they range from hardly any changes [the ones that say only busybox and rooted are usually just stock ROM with just those 2 additions].
You want to use JB which Samsung has not even upgraded the T989 to yet [completely stable and I have been using it as my Daily Driver for month ].
First download ROM Manager from Market and have it flash CWM Recovery
Go to development section here and find the ParanoidAndroid thread and download the Nov 18 dated file and Gapps and flash those
Now you will have Android 4.1.2 - Jellybean! Enjoy
I have stock rooted 4.0.4 and it asked me to update. Do you think T-Mobile is releasing an update? Anyone else getting it?
I'd like to keep my wifi calling so i havent moved to a 4.1.2 rom.

I've been receiving an update as well. Problem is every time I go to update since my phone is rooted but running the stock rom, after i reboots to start the update it sends me to Clockwork Recovery...which actually brings me to ask my question here instead of starting a new thread. I really don't want to un-root since I make use of the cracked Google Play for a couple of my apps Do I really have to un-root just to receive T-Mobiles update?
I'm on 4.1.2 but with the mk7 basband.. is there a flashable file so I can put it back to stock so I can do the official 4.3 update? I think I rather have that even tho I can't go back to any 4.1.x.. having too many issues with 4.3 roms without the updated bootloader, kernels are even.messing up camera etc. So I'm figuring do the update so I don't need a custom kernel.. or is there a flashable STOCK kernel I can flash so I can use Triangle Away and then just do the OTA update.. just frustrated as hell trying to troubleshoot everything.. I respect and thank all the devs I'm sure its either user error or my misunderstanding and knowledge. Never had this type of struggling with any devices from my HTC HD2, SGS2, SGS3, .. I'm just gonna chunk it up to being remedial or something and acknowledge defeat on this Device

If you are interested, I have debloated the Stock 4.3 ROM, rooted it and packed it with TMBBMD1 bootloader.
This ROM has the stock kernel, I have been running it for a while so far no issues. I am planning on uploading it on XDA.
If not, the easiest option would be to
1) Flash MrRobinsons, stock rooted TMBBMD1 ROM
2) Run triangle away to reset counter.
3) Uninstall SuperSU, this can be done from the application itself.
4) Perform a factory reset
Now your phone will be on stock 4.1.2 and if you check for updates you will get the 4.3 OTA.

I'm probably missing the obvious here, but for the life of me I can't find a thread that tells me exactly how to flash stock recovery for my 4.3 rom.
Need to get back to stock to use triangle away to reset the flash counter to send off for repair.
It doesn't help that every time I've tried to search xda today I get a "search not available" error.
You have to flash a stock rom through odin AFAIK to get stock recovery You will then have to root it to use triangle away then unroot through super user to get back to complete stock. Not 100% sure triangle away has been updated for 4.3 though

Thanks, after several hours of reading I eventually reached the conclusion that a stock rom through Odin was going to have to be the way to go. Bit of a pain because the download of the full rom from sammobile took over a day! (on my 20mb connection) but got there in the end.
I was hoping there'd be a way of flashing just the stock recovery, but it seems not.

Hi I was wondering if you had tried to use triangle away before flashing the stock recovery? I'm trying to understand if thats the actual reason that mine doesn't work
