[Q] Install from ExternalSD - Samsung Galaxy W I8150

Guys, is there any difference if I flash a Rom from the ExternalSD instead of flashing it from Internal SD?
Thanks

Shouldn't be any.

I ALWAYS flash from external SD and have NEVER had any issues. Lol, I have a folder that I created on my ext SD that contains 3 or 4 different ROMs so that I can easily change my OS whenever I want....

Just ROMs? Pah, amateur...
I have a folderful of ROMs, and another folderful of kernels.
(That said, most of them just lie there undisturbed ever since I settled on CM9b4 and CITK)

Well, my kernel addiction began when people started making me envious of 'longer battery life thanks to undervolting'
(Plus, I'm just addicted to SmartAssV2 -- that's *not* the title of a porn movie, mind you -- and the kernel that comes with CM9 just doesn't have it).
Annndd... considering there are many new kernels flying about, I might even be a kernel junkie *heh

When I first started me too. But in my case, I use hadi's v1.3 hadiconfig. I settled on lulzactive though, swapping with smartassv2 sometime. Using zen instead of sio. I never really can tell the difference between zen and sio though...

Eh? I also have two folder full of roms and kernel on my sd card
Now I'm trying RemICS JB, but the battery drain too fast.
Anyone have a solution or suggestion?

If you wanna go to JB, SlimBean is a good choice. Else ICS, stick with Arco's stock.
I'm not a fan of JB yet, not until it stops random rebooting everytime i wake my device.
I had once the most crazy battery life once, experimented with wifi, minor whatsapping, 30%left in 4 days. But once I go back to common usage, the phone crashes easily and kept rebooting by random.
Hadi's and castagnal IT 's kernel are awesome, but depending on need you need to experiment on which setting suits you best though.

Jelly bean kernel?

So I've seen a few sigs talking about custom kernels on there et4g while running some version of aosp jellybean. Just wondering if anyone had info on this

If i am not mistaken, there are no custom JB kernels yet. Unless someone has gotten a good source recently.

Follow these instructions. You have to flash the specific kernel. Forget the ICS version, it only works right with cm9.

If you are talking about this post... this is about Mutliboot (Allows you to temporarily reboot into a completely stock TW Rom to update PRL, Profile, and things like that) Once you reboot, it will restore your original rom. (Quite the handy tool)
If there is a true JB kernel developed, I stand corrected. But to my knowledge as of this morning, there isn't. (Devs feel free to chime in on this if you will)
No other JB kernels except for sbrissens, which technically is a custom kernel since there isn't a stock kernel for the et4g his had to be written from scratch on top of the ICS source

No worse than any aosp ICS build honestly. The builds take a few days to stabilize and if u calibrate your battery they easily get u through a day

Not in my experience. It's not absolutely awful on the JB ROMs, but it's not equal to CM9 in my opinion. Also, there is no battery calibration on this phone, other than using it and letting the fuel gauge converge to accuracy.

Meh, battery life isn't really an issue... I have my phone tethered directly to a motorcycle battery in my backpack.. I can get atleast an hour and a half screen on time before it dies running JB.... But honestly, i'm always trying them to see how things go. But I use the typical conservation methods.. (Juice Defender(Data on screen on), Screen dim, 15 sec timeout, and all the other goodies to help make the juice last), If all else fails.. I do internet support for a cable company, i'm sitting at a computer all day so i've got power to recharge if needed LOL..

Its the kernel included in every JB build available for out phone. Its the only JB kernel available right now because there are no leaked JB kernels and no source so sbrissen had to rewrite the ICS kernel to run JB for us

By calibrate, I think he means charging to full and deleting battery stats.
Can be done in recovery (under advanced) or with an app from the store.

I agree with this, I can't go all day with normal use and no charging on jb but its no issue on various ics roms. The jb roms are all very nice though and definitely stable enough for daily use.

Which Rom is your DailyDriver and why?

I've tried almost every rom out there but just keep coming back to Blazer or Kyan for my daily satisfactions without frustrations
ATT GS3
White Hot! GS3.
Tried several, AOKP e.g. but none had the full functionality of Diet ICS where literally everything works. It has been my DD for months now, practically the longest I've ever had a rom. Though I'm still waiting for a truly stable JB.

I personally love nottach's ROM Ariel after being on kyan, blazers, paranoid, year of dragon, and now my favorite Ariel.
Its fast, smooth, everything is working, great mods, and stable.
Plus I get to pick what's in the ROM with the aroma installer.

Was running blazer rom bit switched to Ariel as dev is on hold for a bit. Then after 2.09 Ariel I went stock and rooted. I tried AOKP and a dozen other roms but none were super stable or offered the functionality that stock did. So waiting it out for official jb and hoping for something better. I really wish we had a team perfection rom like I had on the note. That was my dd

looks good to me
Has anyone tried wanam vs Ariel ? Which is more stable and smooth ?
What : AOKP 10-13-3012 paired with ktoonez KT747 kernel
Why : smooth as silk, nothing i've tried to do hasn't not worked (yes thats a double negative, thats how awesome it is) and paired with the undervolting capabilities of KT747 the battery life is amazing
What more could you ask for in a rom/kernel combo.....other than maybe a sammich
I've used PA, CM10 and AOKP, but im on SlimBean for now. Use to use CM10 as DD but its been very buggy lately. Tried PA for a few weeks but hybrid mode is nothing special, and AOKP had bad battery life for me. SlimBean is ok, not the best but good enough to be a DD. Battery Life is decent. Never tried Baked rom yet but it looks interesting...
I don't really feel like I have a DD just yet. I'm still going thru the searching process for one. For a while, I was using Blazer, then I switched to a couple different JB leaks. I ran a couple different versions of Drew Garen's JB Roms: Milestones 2, 3 & 3.5. They weren't stable enough for me to use daily because of too many force closes and random re-boots. Then I switched to Graffixnyc's BlackJelly: Versions 0.6, 0.7 & 0.8.
I like the theming done in BlackJelly. But lately in V0.8, I've been getting random re-boots. I'm going to test drive Serinity next (probably flash it later today).
I'm really just hopping around sampling everyone elses theming until the official JB is released, then I will probably flock to the one I liked best with a stable ROM. By the way, I don't use any touchwiz, I prefer to use Nova Launcher.
I haven't tried any CM10 or AOKP yet. I'll probably do that when it moves away from nightlies (not that the JB leaks are more stable by any means).
I use liquid rc5, tried switching to pa 2.21, and aokp build 4, but nothing seems to work as well as liquid. New play store installed and working, and as well as jb flash player. Battery is good, but and i never had strong 4G where I'm at, and but I get 5 bars consistently here with liquid. I love it as a daily.

[Q] Best Custom ICS rom

Hi guys, i was hoping u can tell me wich one is the best custom ICS rom for my iconia a-100.
I know there are several types of "best"... mine is the one most compatible and stable... im not looking for overclocking roms or else...
i've been trying cyanogenmod10... was a great rom, but have several problems with apps...
so guy... if u can recomend one ICS rom for me (compatible and stable) ill be super grateful =)
Thnx
You should stay on cm10. Cm9 /ics has waaayyyy more app compatibility issues than cm10.
But if you want ics flex repear is your best bet. And its awful.lol just because it is ics.

I would go with relix or green ICS. Both are on the first page of the dev section. There is also ZN custom v1.2, that is pretty stock looking, with tweaks and Acer ring, on the second page. Try them out.
ICS was always stable for me. Its all app dependent.

I don't have a running list, because I normally just find an alternative. But the ones I still use that are glitchy are dolphin, HDR camera, and my bank app. But its pretty hard to determine if any app issues are OS/rom related or app/app update related. Unless you want to load to roms several times and several app revisions. But I do recall, not having these apps cause me any problems before cm10. But the geek in me wants the newest and fastest customizations out. We know how that is.

[Q] The FASTEST ROM ever for Galaxy W

I've installed SlimBean, CM10 A3, InDroid V6, Paranoid Android ICS, PAC-MAN JB ROM and currently, XperiaICE v3.1...
Problem is, its rather slow than i thought, I play ShadowGun Deadzone and wow it lagged ... The XperiaICE v3.1 is one of the best ROM so far with its Cow With Gun OC kernel that can overclock my CPU to 2GhZ... :victory:
But still, are there any ROM that is super fast...? I don't really care about the nice homescreen etc etc... All i want is speed... So is there any? Whichever the cost, i don't care what android version if its GB, ICS, JB or even Cupcake.. This may be the last thread i will post.. Again, is there any?
try installing stock cm9 then use hadi bigmem kernel, tweak the governer to wt u like and also the io scheduler, install seeder if u want, apply sm mods like adrenaline or v6 supercharge

Not sure if Pepoluan gets paid to promote seeders or not. Its at least the 5th time I seen seeders got promoted.
But nonetheless, get Seeders. Use the zip version, works like a BAMF. Zenonia 5 doesn't lag no more.(was crying when I played in SlimBean)

I must be the only one who can't find the instructions on how to flash his ROM.
I tried to do it the normal way of flashing:
nandroid
data/factory reset
format system
wipe both caches
flash rom
flash kernel
flash gaaps
wipe caches again for good measure
reboot
but then I had a boot loop... so I rebooted back into recovery and ended up having a different recovery.
I then redid all the steps above and it came through. (quite quickly)
I was very surprised at the speed and smoothness. I thought I would fall in love but started having problems when I started to use the phone.
First my calls were strangely muffled/staticy.. I've never had that happen. Then when I went to use google voice for texting, it force closed and I couldn't use my keyboard. I don't know why, but I have this issue on the other 4.2 ROM I've tried (Tasks) I wanted to look into it, but there wasn't a FAQ or Instructions from what I could see. I read somewhere that sometimes you can get a bad download when downloading straight from your phone, so I'll report back once I redownload it. It probably it just a bad download, or bad flash method... How did you flash it?
First, most Google force close issues are resulting from not update Google search even with flashing gapps, first thing is to open play store and you will see an update will be immediately available. No more problems after that.
NOW, this ROM- just for reference I have flashed and extensively ran Task, Illusion, Jellybam, CM10.1, Root box and more. This is the smoothest, non problematic, dependable, end user friendly, option loaded, perfect running ROM personally for me. There simply are no ands, ifs or butts. I have the at&t variant S3, I too run the Task/Ktoonez kernel in conjunction. McHammer said it best *Can't touch dis* this should be one of thee most commonly popular used ROM on the market. Not really sure how someone being a "jerk" would effect the quality of the development. I hope that some of you that get emotional over this kinda stuff will at some point focus on the development rather then feed into some emotional attachment to words that are said. You need to focus on what this site is for. Development. So whether or not someone is a "meanie" or whatever you want to call it doesn't/shouldn't matter considering that this site is for developers and development. Its not your personal "make my phone cool" site. Its to progress and further android so that people can have cool things in the end.

If you are just using the phone as normal, leave it. If for some reason you experience a lot of random reboots you want to lower the top end. But on Tasks Kernel, I don't ever have reboot problems and I leave everything at his defaults. Butter.....

Yep. that's how i built that kernel. It can basically be run at any setting and achieve good performance and battery life most of the time depending on the users apps and use. I've actually just updated it again and it's looking pretty nice. better than ever actually.
Screenies for now

No need to be sorry. I wasn't at all sure who you were talking about. I was actually sticking up for you and anyone here on XDA that shares work. Just want people to focus more on the development rather than the character, cool factor, ect... Of the developers that put in tons of hours on these projects.

Yeah... I was just trying to be ironic I guess... Total failure! But glad you guys are enjoying these builds because I really enjoy doing it. I'll keep building these as long as you guys keep using them!
And hey task650 do you happen to have a kernel for tmo? I've built kernel's in the past but only stock cm stuff... I'm scared to death to modify them in any way

Modifying kernels can lead to damaging devices. The kernel is like the engine to the OS so it's kind of a big deal. My kernel is compatible with tmo devices.

Oh yeah... I know how important they are. I actually built one for my ubuntu box and screwed something up. It worked, just killed my 3d graphics... But, I digress and shouldn't be filling this thread with idiocy. I definitely will be trying out your kernel! Thanks bro!

One undeniable thing about task's kernel is my phone runs physically cooler than with other kernels that heat it up badly! Something I have noticed.
