Hello,
I just go myself a Tmobile S3 this Christmas. I was planning to root it and try a custom rom but can someone tell me if I can root and install a custom rom with the phone being network locked on T mobile? Dont want to end up with a paper weight with no rom!!
Also can you suggest a fast samsung based custom rom with a good battery life, which has the features of smart stay, motion features etc in it. Since those features are the main reason of not porting to AOSP based roms.
Thank you in advance.
P.S: I did use the search feature and go through many threads but am confused as I did find some contradicting information.
Yes you can just make sure you follow direction for T-Mobile phone and only use T-Mobile ROMs you should fine all you need in development forum under stickies

I am new to android and i want to Root my S3. I know there are many Stock rom options available but do not know which one to prefer.
Can any one help me rooting this device and getting a stock rom on it. The existing AT&T version has bloatware that eats up my battery and performance.
Thanks
Once you are rooted, use something like titanium backup to freeze anything you don't want.

What's the point of rooting and installing recovery if you want to use a stock ROM? They are the worst possible ROM's available for this phone. Do yourself a huge favor and install either an AOKP ROM or CM10. Both are MUCH better than stock ROM's and give you much more customizability.
I am running rooted stock nothing wrong with it.
You will have to read through the ROMs listed in development to decide which is right for you.
No one can make that decision for you
All ROMs are the best for the users running them.
Thanks

Hey guys, i am finally back on XDA developers, it has been 3 years as i upgraded to an Iphone but have returned to try out android again in the hopes it is no longer a piece of crap os like it was a few years ago and so far i am linking!.
I just bought the Galaxy note 2 and want to root it.
More specifically when i had my HTC Touch Pro with windows mobile 6, i downloaded Roms with lots of apps pre loaded such as wifi tethering, games tweaks and feature re-enabling.
Now i have a Note 2, i want a ROM with the most tweaks and software installed on it, i do not care for the UI as i can learn however i liked the windowed UI of one of the roms on here which is more like a desktop computer.
So please could you recommend me a Rom with lots of extras and explain how i would root the phone as i have a very vague idea and would want confirmation.
As far as i know, you download the rom, save it to a SD card, then reboot the phone in recovery mode and this is where i get stuck as to what i would do next.
Also, if in the future i want to return to the stock rom, how would i go about doing this?
I live in the uk and have a unlocked GT-N7100 so none of this sprint, verizon , at&t ,T-mobile crap your guys suffer with in America.
Do search for note 2 toolkit.. Root and install cwm or twrp recovery mods through it..
Press power volume up and menu together to boot to cwm and then install your rom .. U can also use cwm to backup your stock rom...
I recommend omega rom myself along with perseus kernel..
Hope it helps and please read the forum.. It hasTONS of info about the same question...
Cheers

theres lots of great CusROM... for example:
1. you can try ARHD for the most TouchWiz look-aliked
2. Omega cause theres lots of user who supports this ROM
3. Phoneix for the lots of tweaks and mods on the package
4. And many others things...
For me, its Alliance.. may differ for every user... you need to try it on your own.. :good:
For rooting and rom installation I wrecommend to read dr.ketan's excellent thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=31801134.
Omega is a touch wizard based rom, so you do not lose the S-pen functionality, and it has lots of customizable functions, mods. I also suggest to install simplistic framework, with further modding capabilities.
Hi all,
my first post is nothing but questions, sorry for that.
I'm using a Vodafone (German) N7105 with stock ROM, rooted and CWM recovery
Android 4.1.2, N7105BUDLL4, 3.0.31-679347
I'm quite happy with this ROM but I'm missing some details. Therefore I'm thinking about a custom ROM.
So far I could find the common roms with all their features but finally I'm not sure which one I should take for my requirements:
- Multi Window with all apps
- Customizable top bar icon colors (LTE, antenna bar, battery etc.)
- Better EQ/sound (if not possible I can stay with Neutron)
- More detailed settings
- If possible, keep Samsung Touchwiz (nothing to complain)
- Keep MHL/HDMI output
- Fast and reliable build, no unstable daily release
- No carrier bloatware if possible
- Full Google sync has to work properly
Is there any specific you can recommend for my needs?
Thanks for your help.
Nils

Hey metoo3. From your post it looks like it has to be Samsung based ROM. Check out Omega or for example Android Revolution. I tried them and both are fine. But almost always you will miss some features, just to need decide whats most important for you.
If your using n7105 do not flash anything that is not for n7105 or you will lose ability to make calls. There are only a few custom roms in the n7105 section both deadmans and hashchecks have just about everything you want

Hello Xda People.
I have recently got myself an Xperia S.
Before this I've owned an xpera x8 I loved playing around with roms on that thing yet I never really unlocked the bootloader or anything fancy
So now I have a few questions. What is the smart thing to do?
Unlock the bootloader?
Root the phone and only uninstall unneeded things?
Install a rom without unlocked bootloader
or Instal a rom with unlocked bootloader
The things I would really like are:
A little bit more battery life
The same option the phone has with official rom (xsound/ bravia engine in particular)
Pre-rooted rom
Could anyone here help me make a choice and guide me through the steps I need to take?
Yup u can start by rooting your phone there is lots of threds here after that u can install custom recovey where u dont need to unlock your bootloader after that flash a Rom with a good battry life (like miui) there us few roms compatible with locked bootloader.
I do not recommend to unlock or root ur phone now bcz after few weeks we ll have official jb 4.1.2 after that if ur still board thn u can unlock ur phone and start messing around
Hit thanks if I helped

Lock/Unlock Bootloader depends on what ROM you choose to install. There are plenty ROMs available in the development section. Read the ROM threads, Features, User reviews and decide your self which ROM suits you best.
Based on that You can decide whether to go for Unlock Bootloader or Stay on Locked bootloader.
If you like to stay on Stock then just root it and remove bloatwares and install few tweaks. It should be fine. Detail info regarding this can be found in General Section. So search there.
And last but not the least, XDA Doesn't allow discussions about "which ROM is best" or "which ROM suits me most"? Thus the easy way is to head over to the development section and find out by yourself.
OP please read the Post above mine...Thanks.
please give me a link for the best roms for my note 3 t mobile.many thanks

FIrst you need to tell us what are the features you are looking for and stock base dosent support.
In my opinion its way better to stay stock even unrooted (yes I said it!) for a while since everything seems to be in order on latest stock firmware.
When i was lurking around looking myself for some other custom alternative I was not impressed.Unreliable configs (bad ram managment and poor battery life),bad support, weekly changes, lack of NFC and unreliable camera(on nonTMO-base).This is mostly due to "developer" which are still learning basics to android development and lack of Samusng sources.
In concluison if you are still derermined to swich or just to try out I would suggest you to try either Dominion or for nonTW official cyanogemod rom.
Cheers and sorry for any spell errors.

Thanks for this useful source and idea..i have only note 3 n900t stock rom.rooted already not yet customize rom....coz im looking for the best for my t mobile note 3....i will try soon dominion and cyanogen mod..thanks a lot...
What version of android is your stock rom? The latest is FOL1. I havent seen much of a difference between FOL1 and FOB6 to be honest but since FOB6 im not impressed. I tried to hold out as long as i could with DNF9 running a stock deodexed rom with xposed and a few other visual mods and never had any problems. I might just roll back to it.
