Request Note 2 keyboard for N7 - Nexus 7 Themes and Apps

The best keyboard I have used (and I've tried a few) is the one from from the Samsung Note 2. I use it on the S3. Has anyone managed (or capable) of migrating this to the N7. I've seen the N7 keyboard with numbers on top but I can't get this to work. Thanks in advance.

I will try it, if you provide me a link to it.

No clue on the Note KB, but this is what I did to get the "PC kb" with numbers on top:
Go to Settings/Language & input and then touch the settings Sliders next to ‘Android keyboard.’ Next, touch ‘Advanced settings’ and touch ‘Custom input styles.’ It will say Deutsch and Francais, but you can ignore that. Touch ‘Add Style’ near the upper right. Then select your language and change the layout from QWERTY to ‘PC’ or one of the other styles. Now touch ‘Add’ and you’ll see your new style appear in the list. Touch ‘Enable’ and use the back key to go back to the Language & input screen. Now touch ‘Input languages’ near the top and uncheck ‘Use system language.’ Lastly, touch ‘English (US) (PC)’ and you’re done. [Thanks to the guys at AndroidPIT for providing this tip.]

Apologies to AndroidBoss who I've already pm'd but for the benefit of a wider audience I wondered if anyone has done this yet?
I have intermittant problems with the flex cable and have found a replacement with keyboard membrane on ebay. I've replaced the screen before so know how to open the phone up but like the threadstarter I cant find anything on taking the keyboard apart.
Is it messy and is it easy to put back together?

[REQ] 4.2 keyboard with number long-press

Does anyone know of a keyboard/mod that combines the swipe of 4.2 with the long press options (numbers above the top row, etc.) of 4.1?
I'm not talking about 3rd party apps like swype, because I want to maintain the functionality, dictionary, accuracy, and look of the stock keyboard.

If you change the dpi to a higher one, it shows the number, so i'm guessing its a simple edit in the xml file..

found it! sort of...
In ratcav's cm10 kang it has swipe+longpress numbers. It looks like it might be in the latest gapps on goo. Not sure how to get it on "any ROM" but its a start!
I know Swift Key has the long press numbers and they just recently launched Sift Key Flow. I haven't read a single word about it but it sure sounds like Swype competitor.

Yeah, swype works great too, but the whole point of this thread is the stock keyboard look, feel, and dictionary, with both swipe and long press functionality.
There's all sorts of third party apps for keyboards, but that just don't cut the mustard . Thanks though!
Try TouchPal V5, it's free and works great!

I'm currently on the latest CM10.1 nightly, as they say, it comes correct!
I guess it has more to do with the ROM and the dpi than the gapps.

[Q] Ipad sold, Note 8.0 bought - now some questions

Hi All,
I'm a long time member of xda-devs since the original xda phone back in the early 00's. I had a second gen galaxy tab but ditched it for an ipad 3 as it wasn't quite the experience I was after. Now I've ditched the lead weight that is the ipad and am absolutely loving the Note.
I have a few questions...
1. Are there any gestures (e.g. multi finger swipes) that can be used to cycle through the open apps, or am I limited to a long press on the home button then a tap?
2. Are there any other gestures that are possible to streamline use?
3. When typing a number or symbol, is there any way of configuring it to go back to the letter keys once the number/symbol has been typed, rather than having to tap the ABC button?
4. Is there any way of displaying the email or gmail widgets on the lock screen?
I'm sure there'll be more questions as I explore further.
Thanks for any guidance.

Very happy that you made the switch, but given that the note 8 is new just be patient. If I were you I would install an AOSP rom and install nova which supports a ton of gestures. Spend some time playing with mods and you will find that you can customize your Os to your liking. Something that is very difficult to do with even a jailbroken iPad. Good luck and I hope you enjoy your investment.

1. GMD GestureControl works pretty good for multi finger swipes, just not as good as iPad. There is a lite version on playstore. You can give it a tr there but for me I'm using LMT launcher which is also good too, can find it here or just google it.
2. I'm not sure.
3. I think you need to tap ABC button for that.
4. There will be on 4.2 but for now you may need to try aosp or cm10.1 for that which is not available for our note yet? Or maybe not stable yet.
Check Nova launcher for 1 and 2. For example, I use a double tap on the screen to open up recent apps. There is also some built in spen gestures under settings, spen, and Samsung gestures under settings, motion. The spen settings allow youto add your own spen gestures too.
3. In the built in Samsung keyboard you have access to numbers and letters simultaneously, can use swipe instead of tap, or write letters with the spen that are converted to text. In other keyboards, long pressing a letter on the top row usually equals a number, so you can avoid going back and forth the number and letter sets.
4. This is possible with Daydream add ons but we'd have to wait for Samsung to update the Note 8 to the current Android OS, 4.2.2, then install Daydream widget clock plus. Maybe there are other apps that can be used in the meantime or launchers with that feature. (I turned off lock screen on my device, I find it annoying, I would rather open the cover and be in the app where I left off immediately. )

I was just like you with an ipad 3 and this was the first thing I was after as well. I found gmd gesture control and I'm so very grateful. Just be careful because one of those apps (pen control or gesture control not sure which one since I have both) have issues when I use my spen and lay my hand on the screen. I blacklisted handwriting apps but when I use the pop-up note I can't blacklist anything since it hovers on the home screen.

I'd download either:
SwiftKey - Best for rapid typing with great auto correct
Swype Keyboard - Great for those who enjoy using the swype/flow features in Android (not having to lift finger off to type)
Kii Keyboard (Has multipurpose keys and has a number pad which I liked) above the keyboard [BEST FOR TABLETS]
They are my 3 favorite, in that order.
Bro chill... My keyboard does to... It says ViperX+ cuz that's the Rom I'm running but its nothing

Handwriting recognition

Are there any good handwriting recognition (handwriting to text) applications that run on the 1NotePro 2.2? I haven't been able to find one that works.

Not sure what kind of app you are looking for. Keyboard? Notepad?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.visionobjects.notesmobile does an excellent job with handwriting to text in a notepad. Pricey, but it does exactly what it says it will do. They also make a great free handwriting keyboard so you can test out how well it reads your handwriting.

Looking for something I can use to take handwritten notes during meetings and have it convert them to text on my NotePro 12.2. Your suggested app looks like it might work. Wish there were a trial version. I'm tired of buying apps that sound good but don't do what I want them to.

This feature is already built in, as far as I can tell...I mean when I'm in a note taking app (any of them) or an office app, and I use the SPen instead of the keyboard, it opens a beige writing bar thing to write on. When I write, it converts that to text. Works like a charm...I take notes this way in SNote all the time.

You have two options. 1. Select the text input option so your keyboard come up. Then pull out your spen. If the keyboard doesnt become a writing pad the press the option key next to the spacebar and hold it until you can select a settings icon. This will take you to the keyboard settings. Then you can set the keybaord to detect the spen. From then on any time you remove the pen the keyboard will switch automatically. 2. Write normally with the pen in snote. Then select the lasso tool and surround the text you wrote and select the option that says transform. Then select text and it will convert it.

People say sNote works what if you happen to use the OEM keyboard?
I can not use the OEM keyboard it is way too big and ugly on the other hand Swiftkey with a floating tiny keyboard is perfect.
Seems like MyScript Notes Mobile does exactly want pull out the stylus notes automatically converted to text.
$10 app maybe worth it.

Use MyScript Stylus Beta
If you are looking for a good "writing text" and conversion of this text, you need to try MyScript Stylus Beta (same creators of MyScript Calculator and MyScript Notes Mobile).
They point with this "keyboard" (replace the keyboard for a line where you write) is really one of the best (or the best) to d othis job and on top is free (ok ok Beta version but really in a excellent mature level)
When I tried to stock one, there was a pause during recognition. Which app is the best in terms of conversion speed and accuracy?
