I've had my phone in its Otterbox since July. Now, the case is worn. I have no reason why, but the edges have loosned a lot. The phone now falls out of the rubber grip.
So, I need a new case. However, I was also wanting to pick up an extended battery. Problem is, they all require a different back cover. I do want a protective case, but I also want to pick up an extended battery. Any battery/case recommendations?

If you're going to get the official Samsung Extended Battery, I'm not aware of anything that is specifically made for that yet. However, you can get both a case and extended battery from Seidio (http://www.seidioonline.com/samsung-galaxy-s-iii-s/8156.htm).
This question might be better asked in the Accessories forum. The accessories forum has all 4 Galaxy S 3 forums in it (Sprint, Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile), so it's a bigger audience to find it for you.

Just got an extended battery for my Captivate, does anyone have suggestions for a phone case?
I've used one of the silicone cases all along, but now it doesn't fit.
Thanks!
Cut up the silicone case. Make it fit.
Just got back from a cell store, I may have to hack up the gel case. Its gonna be hard to find something else.

to be honest with you i got the otterbox defender series comes with a screen protector and holster im the type of person who rarely drops there phone but that didnt stop my friend from dropping it down the 15 set of stairs man nothing was wrong no scratches but picturing it doing that without the otterbox case is like watching a non stop disney marathon for 12 hours (which is bad btw considering you hate disney)

LOL Fask!!!
Seriously tho, the phone w/extended batt fits in the otterbox without cutting up the back part of the case??? Got any pics???
I haven't found anything that is custom fit yet, I ordered a 2 piece snap together case that I'll have to do surgery on.... but at least it will have some protection.

So far, the battery is awesome! I get approx 2 days of usage... I say approx because I haven't let it totally drain yet, I guess I still obsess some about running out of juice when at work! LOL!
Anyway, you can see the battery here:

I have an extended battery on the way, and have been trying to decide on what to do about the case. I have the Otterbox Commuter and really like it. I had been debating on this same mod, but if I do it, I will probably try to not cut the silicone inner lining. I think I will be able to only cut the outer shell and the inner lining would still provide some protection. My fear is that dropping the phone on the battery with no protection at all would kill it.
I just got a silicone case and cut the back so the battery can stick out lol.

The otterbox can be modified plus may give you a better look ehh versus hindering its defense against Dust and dropping it I would consider the silicon case with the back cut off but personally me I got the otterbox and got cm7.and tweaked it my battery last 29 hours plus I have a year warranty case backing it up

There is now a case available for the captivate with extended battery. Search for "Custom TPU protective case for Samsung Captivate" on ebay. It does not fit the seido 3000mah battery since it has the stupidly oversized battery door (and is stupidly expensive anyway), but fits the common size extended battery door which is included for all the other extended batteries from 2100 -3500mah I have seen. It is a slightly harder material than the body glove case so not rubbery (a plus for me since I don't like the soft rubber on some Otterboxes).
On another note, if you don't like the oversize extended battery, there is now a stock size 1800mah battery for the captivate. Search ebay for "anker captivate battery." I use roms with good battery life (dlev 4.2 and Svii are the best I have found), plus tune my phone to remove unnecessary processes, so 1800mah is plenty to get me through a day of heavy normal use. But with a big extended battery I can make it through a day of heavy abnormal use, using GPS as much as I want, tethering through most of the day, and playing intense games or watching videos for hours.
More extended battery notes.
If you want to get your phone as close to stock size with a large extended battery, the solution also comes from ebay. Search for "mesh captivate case." It is a rubber coated plastic very light shell for the captivate. And it comes in colors if you want to jazz up your phone. Long shipping time from china, but only $3 with free shipping. It is the best case I have found for mods since it is semi-rigid so holds its shape and easy to cut with a dremel cutting wheel. It can be cut to accommodate the door of an extended battery, but an even better solution is to use it without a battery door at all. This will get you as close to stock size as possible with a large extended battery.
Cut a square in the shell to fit the battery itself without the battery door. You don't really need the battery door since once you slide the slider up, it holds the battery in without it. You have the shiny battery protruding through the case only a couple of mm and only in the 2x2" section instead of the much larger section you have to cut out if it had a door. You can paint over the battery with black paint so it is not noticeable, and when you hold it in your hand no one can even see it's a frankenphone.
An unmodified mesh case is also useful for me to not have to use the metal battery door with a stock size battery. You can put a small piece of sticky velcro (or whatever) on the battery as a spacer and put the mesh case on the phone without a battery door. With the 1800 stock size anker battery and the mesh case, it is lighter and thinner than any stock phone with a case plus has 20% or more battery life, better GPS, and better ventilation.
I don't like to use the stock captivate metal door since it degrades the GPS on my phone. When the metal door is installed, I cannot use the GPS on my phone while it is charging since it is so inaccurate. When using the mesh case or the extended battery with plastic door, the GPS works much better and works fine while charging.
The downside to using the mesh case without a battery cover is that the internals are more exposed to dirt, dust, and water. Since I don't use my phone in dirty or wet environments or drop it much, this is not a concern to me but could be for some people.

For all of us who tried to do the right thing... get the Galaxy Nexus and protect such a beast with the Otterbox case that Verizon is selling:
I was worried after I saw how bad the standard battery performs and went through all the steps; customizing the menu, getting apps that control cpu and functions, and calibrating the battery...etc.
At the same time, I ordered the extended battery, assuming the Otterbox would be substituted by some gel case and that I would just need to deal with a bulkier phone (not that the GN is bad at all).
Battery came with extended battery case and it totally fits in the Otterbox, without removing the back Otterbox plastic cover or doing any odd alterations. It just fits so the size is the same, a little more weight but it's nothing.
Gonna calibrate the battery now...
I read somewhere that this was the "right" feeling phone and that Google designed this! And that Verizon in the slim-battery, slim-phone wars set this in motion. Why the negative press about Google flagship is "worth it" to a VZ exec I dont know... but all these phones should have come with the "extended" battery as standard. And extended should realy do that... extend the battery life and not make us feel that the phone is underperforming with the "standard" (included) battery it ships with.
Booya!
Hope I'm happier with this once I finish charging the new battery.
I have the extended battery and just got my Otterbox Commuter case and it fits perfectly. Very very happy with both !!!!

Good to know.. waiting for one that has a kickstand also for the extended battery gnex.

Yes. Defender! It is defending well.
I can confirm the otterbox commuter fits with the extended battery. 2 of the corners have a slight gap, the other 2 corners fit just fine. Case still works perfectly though.

I got the kickstand case at verizon (it was free, long story) and it fits fine with the extended battery as long as you dont put the battery cover on... the rear is completely protected so you're not leaving anything exposed (though i guess it could be more vulnerable to light water damage where it would not if you had the back on) but overall i'm pretty happy with the kickstand case... wish it had corner protection though.

How do you like your Commuter? I have mine, but I have no GNex yet!
How much thinner is the Commuter versus the Defender? I have the defender but the included screen protector is garbage. I might pick up the commuter if it's thinner than the defender.
i have used goobegone to remove the defender screen protector from the top bezel of my nexus one. and then installed an aftermarket protector directly to the screen. It was a perfect combo too. Is this how the defender screen protector is too? Removable by peeling off and removing the adhesive?

Does anyone know from experience if the VZW extended battery and cover will work with the case listed in the link above
Thanks
Look in the accessories forum. There is a case wiki thread that lists several.

Probably not. Those hard shell cases are usually a tight fit anyway. You can however use the standard battery cover with the extended battery (although a tight fit) it will make some cases fit better but you normally will still have a gap at the bottom (small).
You can also run without a back battery cover. This typically will allow most standard cases to fit perfectly. So you have some options, but I doubt it will work with the extended battery + extended door.
It will work without the back cover, I think I read that on one of the reviews for the case on VZ's site.
Will this fit the samsung extend battery?
http://www.case-mate.com//Samsung-G...ate-Samsung-Galaxy-S-II-Pop-Cases-w-Stand.asp
It's such a tight fit that the phone is prone to pop out of it and if you drop it face down then it might not offer any protection. My case still stuck out over the glass a little bit but if it had been dropped it probably would have just fallen out of the case and the glass would still hit concrete - also what little was left sticking out would have made the smallest pebble hit the screen as well. I got the case you have free with the phone but couldn't keep using it because of those two things;
- That it didn't offer appropriate drop protection (which was awesome with that particular case prior.
- That it might just come out of the case too easily even if it did offer appropriate protection.
I went to a guy that had a pretty sizable mobile phone accessory stand in a shopping mall and he had a case for the normal gs2 battery that happens to fit the extendable battery. I'd go and ask people until you find someone that states having one that works and then trying it on. The first one I tried fit, but it was clear and I wanted black. He had the same one in black but when I tried it on at the shop it didn't line up properly like the clear one regardless of being the same case in a different colour; so that's my advise, is to find someone that will let you try a case at the shop, but be up front that you have the extendable battery. If they don't know what you're talking about when you tell them that, and that your phone is bigger as a result, then go elsewhere until you find something appropriate from someone who knows what they're getting into when they try it on your phone before buying.
it will fit if u dont use the back cover that is supplied with the 2000 mah battery
and it fits very thight so u dont have alot of trouble with dust comming into the battery compartment
its just a bit wierd if u show people that u dont have a back cover but iam using the case now for i think 4 months with the 2000 mah battery and having no troubles with it only thing that i dont like is that the case makes the phone fat but thats not because of the battery cos with the normal battery it feels the same
I'm using this case without any issues. Fits good.

there are multiple discussions going on, and this is what i know so far:
It fits very tightly in some situations.
It fits if you remove the back cover of your phone (so your battery is against the case)
Im getting the battery for my birthday soon so i hope it will fit my casemate tough case as i like it alot

I'm deciding whether to order this stock 2000mAh battery and back cover: http://www.expansys-usa.com/samsung-extended-battery-and-cover-for-gsm-galaxy-nexus-226962/
For those who has it, I would like to know:

-Would the regular 1750mAh battery rattle inside the new back cover?
Thanks.
I dont have that battery, but for your last question you could just put a soft "dice" or what I should call it between the battery and your casing.

I have this battery and the cases i've tried, which are all tpu cases, work well. I'm not so sure with hard cases though as there is no flex.
I have ordered this from Expansys thinking I would get it faster (ie. from USA) Not! When ordering it says "usually ships in 5 days".... checking status later it was 8 days, and now 11. I could row a boat from Korea faster. As for the OP, the reason I went with this OEM battery was I read in several places you could still use the original battery cover. This was important to me, because the Otterbox Commuter won't fit the extended cover without cutting.
