That was the speeds I was getting while on Virgin Mobile (sprint). Switched to straight talk and my speeds are like 10 times faster.
Sprint is awful. I don't know how they can still be in such business. I can only assume they do well in large metro areas. Im in central ohio and 3g was awful all the time. I switched to verizon. I initially went with sprint because of their unlimited plans, but what good is unlimited data if you cant even get to it. I have a 4gb data plan now and avg 1.5-2gb per month. couldnt be happier. definitely worth the extra money. their lte is the best. i broke my sprint contract with 7 months left and was not charged a termination fee. good luck with your data struggles!
You might be able to sue over that contract if they had charged you, if you go to court and basically say Sprint service is ****, if I remember correctly they generally buy that, because Sprint isn't providing you with reasonable service (aka holding up their end of the contract).
But yes, how are they still in business? Most of the time my friends can't even get on the Play Store, the connection times out. I'd rather have capped data.

That's terrible ping, did you check under results to make sure it read evdo rev a? Sometimes looks can be decieving, but ymmv from location. I get garbage speeds where I live, but over 1mbps on virgin mobile in speedtests when I go over to the wealthy side of town.

How about this one?
Sprint sucks!!! I also went to them for unlimited data, but the data was pretty much unusable. Went to Verizon and love dependable 4g almost everywhere. And prices are pretty much the same, I might b capped now but its data I can use. it is still about the same in the monthly bill, and no I never worry about using too much data.

Couldn't agree more. I only pay 5 dollars more a month with Verizon. I'm so glad I don't have sprint. I live in San Diego and I was roaming internationally in my apt. I live 35miles away from the border didn't make sense to me. Now I have 4g everywhere I go and its so dependable.

Straight talk is great. There are a few dead spots around the area but most days my speeds are great.

I've been wanting to make the switch to straight talk for quite awhile myself honestly, the only thing holding me back is efforts to continue supporting people that follow my guide.
This is my different speeds with sprint.
Speeds where I live ^ although I do live in between two cities, so its understandable on how lame it is.
And these are the speeds I get in the rich people side. Lol

No way ur paying only $5 a month more for a comparable plan on Verizon, unless u were getting ripped on Sprint and not getting the 25% discount. I'm not happy with Sprint either, but no way am I gonna let Verizon butt rape me. I'll go prepaid when my contract expires. The easiest solution to this problem is roaming onto Verizon 3g via:

[PRL] Verizon / Corporate PRL on your Sprint Galaxy Nexus !!!
I'll tell u though, Verizon's 3g speeds are not that much better than Sprints where I'm at (Santa Clarita, Ca), usable, but not nearly as good as HSPA. CDMA revA will be obsolete eventually.

Its like unlimited dial up.
me and my girl both left, both now on pre paid and loving it, i got the tmo thirty dollar plan and its been fantastic, she is on straight talk with [email protected] service, def better service on both ends. also now combined bills are the same as one sprint plan. We also had a discount on our sprint plan and could have cared less
Also battery life has been improved to, due to our sprint phones having to fight to get data from the tower. Sprint would be better if they weren't the back for virgin and boost
I had speeds just like that, then back in February I paid the prorated ETF ($50) and went to verizon. Now I'm usually 12mbps and up, because they have 4g pretty much everywhere. At least in my area of SC

I C. Yeah I was pissed too when Sprint raised my rates. How can they raise rates first and fix the crappy network later? Makes sense since you're only getting 4gbs of data. These contract companies like Sprint and Verizon will have to fight to keep customers at these prices in the coming years cuz prepaid is growing fast.
You should show me how to do that!

As much as I love my Epic Touch 4G, I won't miss Sprint's crappy data speeds one bit. I've never gotten even to 1mbit download speeds in any state I've travelled to. I work in Los Angeles (Downtown, Culver City, Marina Del Rey, Pacific Palisades, Century City, Brentwood, Westwood, Malibu, Gardena...) and I've never got one full mbit of download speeds any place I've travelled to in California, Connecticut, Texas, Nevada... So I don't think it is just once city that I'm paying for bad service but every place I need service.
I'm looking forward to breaking my contract with Sprint by forcing a Verizon PRL on my phone. I won't feel in the least bit guilty as in my opinion Sprint is throttling my data speeds every place I go and they claim they are delivering 4G but my phone can't ever stay connected with 4G. When it does actually stay connected to 4G for a couple of minutes I've never gotten more than 600k. I've tested other ET4Gs - all get the same speed where I need them to get good speed.
This video got me stoked (not because I want to replace my phone, just my crappy provider).
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ySymqERaHEA&feature=player_embedded#t=21s
I've never even downloaded 1 GB in a month of data so a 2GB plan with unlimited minutes will give me more minutes and much faster download speeds for the same price as I've given Sprint for so many years.
The Galaxy Nexus is a nice phone from what I can tell but it isn't the phone that makes me want to switch carriers, it is just Sprint that is driving me away.
Your so cool.
You know about PRL and how to do fancy stuff to your phone....wow
I wish I was like you.
Actually I wouldn't know how to force the PRL but for the HELPFUL people on this forum who post tips on things like this.
So again, I'd like to thank the people on this forum who help me get the most out of my phone!

No that is why I'd switch my PRL so they cancel my contract. Otherwise I'd just cancel my contract outright if the ETF was the same.
Lets be honest though, data isn't really up to par with T-Mobile or Verizon maybe. But they offer unlimited data and thats the only reason I'm still on it. 5gb cap from T-Mobile was not enough for me. Also don't we get charged for roaming?

I certainly understand people sticking with Sprint if they get good service.
In my area it is barely usable and I'd rather be offered a 50 gallon drum of water for a month than get all the water I can carry home as long as I only take it home one teaspoonful at a time. I average about .35mbit download speeds in all the areas I visit (some a little higher, some a little lower) and I've yet to lock onto strong 4G signal. One of the few times I locked was at LAX where I got about .8mbit download. I'll torrent on my cable where I get about 30mbit down so I don't exactly need that much data on my phone.
No charge for roaming on my contract. And I only average about 500-1000 megs per month so Verizon's 2Gbyte plan will leave me with PLENTY of headroom (I realize they have larger plans but 2 will be save me money and give me plenty of headroom).
Awsome another "Im leaving sprint" announcement thread. How many of these have I seen already? You forgot to say at the end how android sucks and your getting an iPhone.
T-mobile has the sgs2, I'd grab that one or the sensation XL.
Im debating doing the same thing, but I'll end up paying more for less incentives in the end.
if you were more of a data monger i would suggest you to wait it out for sprint to upgrade all its towers and switch to LTE because i believe we can be grandfathered into unlimited data. fortunately i recently got a tower upgrade in my area. i honestly used to get score btwn ~23kb to 200kb, but now im getting ~1mb down which is insane (lol) and all i ever need to perform the daily routine
check this out. you can search the cities you are in and see if they have any plans to upgrade towers near you
https://network.sprint.com/search/los+angelos,+Ca/
also, have you tried contacting Sprint about this? being a long-term customer they usually bend to your will if you call and complain to a manager, just threaten to cancel. they might let you off your contract hassle-free or at least give you some cash money towards ur bills until you drop them or something. i would give it a shot being that youre determined to leave anyway
hope this helps! and best of luck with whatever you decide to do

Thanks. Sprint has been telling me for years that either they are upgrading towers in my area so that is why it is slow, they are having a problem with a tower in my area so that is why it is slow or just wait a month or so as they will be upgrading towers in my area. "I ain't fallin for no banana in my tailpipe again".
I agree, I will ask to leave nicely but I doubt Sprint will let me off just because they have crappy data service.
It is my fault for sticking with Sprint for so long, I have no one to blame but myself. I'll miss this phone as it is a great phone but in the 20 cities I've tried it in (switched it once so far) none of them gave me good speed. I had the 3D before this and while it got slightly better speed it still sucked compared to what other carriers are delivering.
there is absolutely no reason i got better service 3 yrs ago with my iphone 3g, 2 years ago with my nexus one, and this past year with my fascinate and nexus S on cricket, than this crap ass slow sprint 3g internet. I get over 8 mbs close to here on 4g, but not at home, nor anywhere in my hood. so i'm bout to roam the **** out of them and dip ... i cant stand slow 3g, this was the reason i got a nexus one in the first place, tired of slow edge speeds with iphone on tmobile... i might as well have a iphone on sprint since they get all the 3g bandwidth i hear... terrible terrible shame, because i absolutely love the device and a galaxy nexus with CRAP OMAP is not appealing, i'm basically just going to flash it to boost or cricket if they can't do any better with the 3g. its retarded slow ... like 69 kb on sprint tower, 300-500 on vzw
EDIT: and on cricket I was getting 800 down consistently 1mb some other places and this was including at home. So why does cricket have better towers in this area? who cares... they do.

I sincerely hope that by the time you do that, Sprint changes their policies and charges you for every abusage KB you use.

If Sprint is not providing the service that is written in the contract then be an adult and have the ETF waived.
Either way, grow up.
So after almost 20 years on ATT, have never changed providers, multiple models and makes of phones on ATT and never had a signal issue, outages yes, due to storms but once service back, no complaints
Made the switch for the 1st time over to Sprint, Samsung Galaxy S3 16GB (for some reason the automated system recognizes phones as 32GB).
After 48 hours on Sprint, horrible horrible horrible voice quality issues (ATT has quad band coverage in area, both 3G and 4G) and despite phone being a 4G, can only see 3G icon lit, anywhere within 50 miles of home. I am paying a surcharge of 10.00 extra for 4G for multiple phones, have yet to see the service. Yes, Sprint promised it would work.
Purchased legitimate (yes I know I can root using qbking videos and Team Epic files) wifi hotspot to tether, keeps dropping connection every few minutes where ATT tether was flawless.
Sprint says "we are working on new towers, service will improve, you have 14 days to return phones are we will refund or replace..."

Yes, the $10 fee was originally for wimax 4G, but after people complained Sprint reworded it as "premium data". Now Even smart phones that only have 3G get this charge.
Add far as voice service, yes Sprint is in the middle of their network vision improvements so ymmv, I have great voice service.
Seems you didn't do enough research before you switched to Sprint and went off the sales pitch the person gave you. Sales people in general will say just about anything to make the sale and get the commission.

My question is, do you even know what you are doing? Did you read ANYTHING about the phone or how it works, did you research the service quality in your area before switching?
Where are you located? I can understand your frustration, it's hard for me to believe that you are saying that ATT voice is clearer than Sprints
I mean I guess if you're roaming and on another tower not owned by Sprint
I'm going to guess your location is your major problem, do you live in a rural area? Sprint works really well in Metro areas, not so much in the rural areas although they are broadening their coverage to these type of areas.
In my opinion, CDMA technology has sharper voice than GSM
Too bad you are experiencing this type of issue.

If it saves you a year of misery, Sprint's stated *GOAL* for network vision is a pathetic 6 mbps. Compare that *goal* to what people you know are getting with AT&T, Verizon, and even T-mobile *today*, and decide for yourself whether Sprint is even worth bothering with.
Frankly, I'm through with Sprint. If it weren't for the Galaxy Note 2 tantalizing me on or before 10/15, I'd have probably gone to the AT&T store today and bought a GS3 instead. In fact, if they announce a release date after that, I'll just get the S3, becase I hate my unflashable Photon with a passion, and can't replace it with a Sprint S3 because *then* I'd have no usable data service (wimax works ok here, but no LTE yet, and EVDO here has been 6 to ~80kbps down lately. Exactly. It's just about stable enough in Dallas that I have ditched my AT&T Note and strictly carry my Sprint phone. Att and Verizon speeds are comparable. Voice quality in this market is unmatched. Sprint wins hands down. whoopdy doo...Tmobile now has unlimited...and is garbage here in big D.
The only one here in the market that may have a competitive edge is Metro with voice over LTE...though their unlImIted data, speeds are capped at 5mbps
I'm not even going to get into the whole grandfathered data on Att being throttled and the new share plans pricing structure being absurd.

I seriously dont understand how people complain about sprint. Its probably 25-35% cheaper compared to every other contract carrier...and was one of the first contract carriers to offer unlimited data, not sure if it still is. I get many discounts off my bill simply because I have state farm insurance and other various memberships. I had verizon for YEARS, switched to sprint, could hardly tell the difference. 90% of the time its all in your head.

And because sometimes people are honest? If everyone just stole it, Sprint would be much more likely to figure out a way to block it. If you're going to actually use it regularly I think people should pay for it.

I was under the impression that 6mbps was their goal for their average speeds. People with Sprint LTE right now are posting 30 mbps speeds. When I had Verizon I would get 5 mbps on LTE at home, where I had low signal, and 25 to 30 at work, where I had excellent signal. There's a huge difference when talking between peak and average speeds.
I have sprint right now and basically it sucks at work. At home I get 4g some times and at work I get 3g or just no data. I'm thinking ing about switching to tmobile or a prepaid carrier. I use about 100 mins a month in talk but I use like 5-7 gb in data a month because i'm on netflix and pandora all day at work. I have a job where i'm at a desk so i'm just sitting 6am to 7pm monday through wednesday. anyone know if any carriers?
I heard simple mobile is ok but I also heard they throttle or just cancel people
Heard straight talk cancels after 2gb.
I'm in the Baltimore MD area.
Well I have simple mobile and I have not had any problems with them at all. But based in your number of minutes, ill suggest t mobile unlimited 4g text and 100 minutes for 30 bucks a month. Check that plan out. And I believe you will have the Wi-Fi calling benefit at well. Having simple mobile, Wi-Fi calling and descent support is what I don't have, oh and insurance, but I'm not complaining for 50 bucks a month

Yes but you cant buy JUST a SIM card at walmart. So that doesnt help the OP since they already have a phone.
But OP, if you go over 5gigs. 2g is okay for streaming pandora just gotta give it a good while before it starts playing. Also, browsing the xda app or tapatalk is possible as well as mobile facebook website (not sure about the facebook app) it was alright for what i used it for but once i got my s2 i started using a lot more data with netflix and youtube and streaming anime on xScope pro browser. And going over 5gigs is really easy pltctytc.
yeah thats where i'm at. i'm thinking about trying different carriers to see which one won't just block me or cut me off when I use there service. I have a S3 from sprint trying to get out of the contract now. but was going to sell it to get a used S3 on tmobile but might have to flash it to boost if I can't find a carrier prepaid that will do 5-9 gb of data.
You are not gonna get a prepaid that will give you 5-9 gb a month.
Don't know why you would go to Boost. They are the prepaid network of Sprint.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
because its will give me the 5-9gb. and I atleast get 3g which sucks.

Boost explicitly "reserves the right" to throttle you past 2.5 Gb and has in their terms that they can cancel you if they deem you to be in violation of reasonable use.
T-Mobile states that they will throttle you to 50kb/s >5Gb.
At work, can you possibly use wifi instead of mobile data ? Instead of streaming movies/music, put them on an external SD card ? I guess it comes down to how badly you need to stream over mobile networks and how much you're willing to pay.
You can get 10Gb from Verizon for $140/month total. I mean, it exists even if you probably have no interest in signing up for it. It would cost $70/month to hook a compatible tablet up with 10Gb/month - so I guess if they get much better coverage in your area, you could switch to them and use a cheap pre-paid phone for voice calling if calling over data work-arounds are not reliable enough for you - since it's not like you'd be paying any more.
Just ideas. I don't think you're going to find what you're looking for when it comes to a pre-paid that will let you go over 5Gb/mo so you'll either have to deal with Sprint's limitations or make some kind of compromise (paying more, data-only tablet, using an SD card instead of streaming, et cetera), or perhaps look at other post-paid.
I had boost before I signed up for sprint. And i had a flashed epic 4g on it and was doing Netflix all day and was never canceled. Went to sprint to get the s3 and they said 4g lte was in my area which it wasn't.

I say go to Tmobile, I was with Sprint for 12 yrs and had all of their top smartphones for the most part. This recent LTE fail in an LTE city (DFW) made me switch to Tmobile which is saving me $40 per month now after Sprint went up $13 per month for each 4G line and I get up to 25Mbps down compared to the horrible 3G I was getting in the summer while in the DFW and DC area. You can get on their unlimited 4G plan with no throttle or the 5GB with hotspot and throttle. Get a GS3 on Tmobile for a low contract price and then sell the Sprint one for $300+ on ebay to pay the ETF. I sold my EvoLTE, and 2 Evos to pay what was left on my ETFs. I have great coverage on the East Coast and DFW.

I used to be on Boost but switched to T-Mobile because not only has Sprint not rolled out LTE yet in my city (Birmingham), they never even rolled out WiMax here.
The unlimited 4G is a great value -- Boost was cheaper, of course, but the data was sooooo slow.

I lived in the DC-Bmore area for 11 yrs so I am familiar with all of those places. My friends in Bowie, Upper Marlboro, and DC with their Sprint LTE devices are still waiting for the LTE to be turned on. Baltimore was supposed to have it by now from what I have read. Everytime I read stories like these, it makes me feel even better about my decision to move all of my lines to TMO.

It's 70$ with a plan thru Sprint. Sprint would offer unlimited data with no caps and unlimited texting for about 70 or 80 bucks a month.
So my question is(if you've gotten one thru this method)...
How is Sprint?
Is there a catch?

Im currently on sprint unlimited plan $70 the only thing is they only give you 400min land line and everything else unlimited but I really dont care about land line I dont really call out, so your bill would be $85 every month.

Yeah Ups delivered mine on Tuesday from Amazon. I absolutely love this thing. It was an upgrade from my epic touch so it cost me $199 which is still not bad considering Sprint sells them for $299. Well worth it. It's so awesome compared to what I'm used to in a phone. My e4gt was nice but you just can't compare the two at all really. Been with Sprint for 15 yrs too and no complaints.

The phone is great. Sprint on the other hand, maybe not so much. Sprint is known to be slow. HORRIBLY Slow 3G. If you aren't in a LTE area, I would weight this heavily.
If you have access to a lot of WIFI points where you normally go around, its not bad. Im in NYC. Speeds are horribly slow sometimes. Othertimes, they are manageable. By horribly slow, I mean less than 500kbps. Its more like 1X than 3G.
When you go to network vision areas (upgraded 3G / LTE areas) you do see a speed boost, somewhere around 800 kbps to about 1.3 mbps. Still probably slow or just reaching Verizon 3G speeds.
The only perk is unlimited data no throttling or caps (except roaming).
Keep in mind, Best Buy price matches Amazon. I bought my GN2 with Add a line price from Amazon Wireless. Walked out the same day, I hate to wait.

I agree with everything he said. The phone is phenomenal but Sprint's service is lackluster at best. I'm in NYC as well and I am sometimes shocked by how bad the data service is. I'm hoping that is because they are still upgrading to LTE or something like that but I'm not holding my breath on that assumption.
I live in a suburb in the San Francisco Bay Area (1 hour from SF) and even in my town, I get LTE. I was at my parent's house visiting, and Sprint has LTE where they live. In fact, LTE was faster (~12 Mbps) than connecting to their home WIFI which connected to slow AT&T DSL (~1.5 Mbps).
If you live in an LTE area, it is amazing.

Love Sprint. My 3G is faster on my Note than it was on my Evo. It matches the 3G from VZW in my area, so I have no complaints. And no, I don't Data Roam.

I almost switched to tmobile but after starting to pick up 4g in alot of places even though it's not announced yet I'm giving Sprint another chance. All I know is that 4g lte rocks. I got it today and 2 times it had a speed of only about 2 to 3mbps but then I connected again in another area and I got pretty good speeds like the one below.

Has sprint improved any the last 2 years and what speeds are you getting on your note 4. On Verizon in Lubbock Tx I get 16 down and 5 up on data.

You take your last bill from verizon or att and they give you the same service for half price. You have to turn in a Verizon phone.
Look on sprints web site and it gives all the details. Starts Friday.
In lubbock sprint is 1.5 up and down on what they call 4g. Not very good

Well since AT&T nor Verizon offer unlimited (data) plans...the deal probably won't be for unlimited plans. Right? You would most likely pay the same as a current subscriber for unlimited.
If you are in a Spark market and connected to a band 41 (2500 mhz) tower you can get over 40mb downloads. On the other lte bands typical download speeds are between 5 and 10 mb. That is assuming the market is fully launched. Those are the speeds I get in Denver.

First thing to do is do some homework and see what LTE/Spark services are like in your area where you will be using your phone most. I can say one thing for sure, and that is that Sprint has been doing a lot of upgrades lately and has done a lot since you left two years ago. Service is great in some places and so so in others. For example I live on the edge of tower range and I barely get decent data connection in my house BUT it does work well when i'm in the corner room of my house that's closest to that tower. I get pretty good data speeds and I have a metal roof!!!
Second thing to take into consideration is which is most important to you right now... price/value or known good service with a higher price tag and not unlimited. It's your decision. just do a little research on Sprint coverage in your area and make a choice. I feel like Sprint will stop offering unlimited data for smartphones soon. I'm not getting rid of my unlimited service/plan because from what I've seen and experienced with Sprint since 2008 is night and day difference. Last thing you need to take into account is the new Sprint Spark devices in favor of a regular LTE non Spark device. The data service will be better for a Spark device. So when getting opinions and testimonies and Speed tests from users, find out which device they have along with their location. Good luck.
Yes, 1/2 off on new members from Verizon or AT&T. All you have to do is take in your phone bill to the nearest Sprint dealer. Sprint has there new TDD-LTE with current download speeds at 60mbps. The same network tested in China and Japan at 150+ mbps. However, the new TDD-LTE network is now in the top 100 markets within the USA. But, I'm not sure if it's in your area yet. However, if you go here: s4gru(dot)com you will be able to determine if the TDD is within area.
But the way Sprint is going, I foresee them setting up a partnership with China mobile and the Network in Japan. This way they might have free roaming within those areas because those networks use a TDD Advanced chip set. Also the thing you might want to think about is the price per share with the top telecoms. Verizon price per share is around $45 and AT&T's price per share is around $35 give or take a dime. If Sprint current price per share is around $4.75 is putting in superior network, odds are really good that Sprint's price per share will go up to at least $25 to $30 in line with the others. But that's just my humble opinion.

Thanks for the info but I disagree on Sprint being a $30 stock anytime soon. They made a very stupid purchase of nextel and the wimax rollout was a disaster. They cannot get long term customers because service and phone access to data and voice is worse than ATT and Verizon. No customers, no upgrade money available. Maybe since the Japanese became investors they can survive. I left them 2 years ago after 10+ years of sub par but cheap service. The new plan would save me $75 per month but I am still not sure it is worth it.
Test done just now...
I'm going to the Sprint store tomorrow with my AT&T bill and see what they can do for me. Currently I'm with AT&T and have 2 phones in my plan. I've got an unlimited data plan with my phone and my wife has a 2gb plan with her phone. My contract is up so I can go with any carrier I want. The Sprint coverage looks good both at my job location and at home. I'm sure I've have some issues when I take trips up to Vermont.
However, this deal does seem a little too good to be true. Currently I'm paying around $155 for both phones a month. If they can beat that then I'll go with Sprint.

Not saying Sprint is a pos... But you may be disappointed if you get rid of your unlimited att.
Sprint is good in certain markets. I'm in nyc and for the most part it's ok. The other carriers have faster data speeds. I've been with Sprint for almost 10 years and I can say it's been a good ride.
