I'm guessing it crashes when it detects a face? It's an issue :/

Hey guys,
With the recent spring up of roms I thought I would include a camera fixer if you are having problems connecting to the sgs3 camera.
Simply flash the following file in CWM.
Thanks to id10terrordfw for the fix
Nice! Thanks a lot

Camera will still freeze on click to focus after 3 times of auto focusing quickly... When I force close the camera it can be not reconnect to camera until reboot.
This is true after installing this patch as well

Yes, this will happen even with the fix.

So what exactly does this fix... my camera worked the same way before as it did after the fix... Try to push to focus 3 times and it freezes... camera fc's then i can't connect to it till reboot. this is exact scenario as before the fix...
Just curious...

(Unless on task's AOKP) It allows the camera to even function. CM9 and 10 do not work without this at all. You get the "Can't connect to Camera" error upon opening it. Until a permanent fix is found, this at least lets you use the cameras on the GS3 on AOSP derived ROM's. I believe task650 incorporated this into his later builds.

got it... thanks
Maybe this only works for one of the camera types (I heard there are a few) cuz I'm running cm-10-20120718-UNOFFICIAL-d2att rom, and I still get the cannot connect after installing this in CWM. It seemed to install fine...
Anyone else having this problem?
I tried flashing this on the cm9 rom for my lg optimus net which has same problem of camera not connecting. But it was no use! Any suggedtions on how to fix it??

Turns out this is a cwm issue, not this mod.

I have updated to the latest release of CM10 (7-20) after confirming that the ROM flash did not have a working camera, and it did not (Could not connect to gallery after first two pics taken) rebooted, cleared data and cached (not that I needed to after a clean flash...but just to rule out any missing variables) got it to work again then started messing with the settings and locked up the camera. Then the next time I opened the camera I got the could not connect error. So I flashed the CWM fix and same issue, after 2-3 pics could not connect error. So I pulled the files and manually placed the in the System>Camera data folder replacing the other files with Root Explorer and set permissions. So far no green screen or problems seen thus far.
edit edit: looks like pressing too much autofocus derped it again aww man .. lol
I opened the camera app when suddenly the screen turned black .. then I tried to open it again when it said: can't connect to camera ... Then I tried to use the mirror app and it still didn't work .. I tried to restart too, but its still the same .. help please? And thanxx

Try clearing the data of the camera. Or if you are on custom rom then you might screw something in installation.

U must try factory reset.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
@farh_an I had this with in the first month of owning my hox. I tried wiping cameras app. Cache etc, different camera apps and all it did was close straight away, I even did a factory reset and the camera worked for 10 mins then back to the same issue. I ended up taking it back to my carrier were they tried everything I did in store but still no go. So they sent it of for repair it come back and never done it again touch wood and my carrier never said what they did. Send it for repair

I have the same problem.
Neither the front camera is working nor the main camera.
I must admit that I don´t use any cases and that my HOX fell many times.
Maybe the cables are loose and you have to fix just that. I don´t think that the mainboard is broken because your whole device wouldn´t work in that case.
If I had the right tools I would open my HOX again and have a deeper look but I don´t have them and can´t risk a broken device since the other parts of my HOX are working flawless.
Maybe somebody else had the same problem and was able to fix that by himself or somebody who let his device get repaired and send back with some kind of report card
Flash a new ROM. Problem solved.
Fyi the problem doesn´t need to be software based.
I already flashed stock rom, Viperx 3.7.4/3.7.5 and back to stock. I even tried to set the phone back to the factory settings but the cameras still force close.
i have this problem now too...i open the camera app ...it is 5 s opened but not able to choose front or back cam and neither the settings in camera app are working...so it's a hardware problem...maybe i have to disassambly the phone too...already openend phone cam seems to be rock solid but i think flex cable is damaged or not really on the mainboard...
Solution?
Not sure we are having the same issue. But I hope I can help.
I have had this issue with two HOX phones (one rooted and one not rooted): green-pink lines and snow flakes on front camera.
Did everything... even changed cameras cleaned in/out played with settings- NOTHING HELPED except this:
1. Downloaded/installed "miror" application.
2. updated my phones.
3. Disabled fastboot settings.
4. Powered down my phone.
5. Pressed together up and down buttons and power key for 20 seconds and rebooted.
6. Opened Mirror app... and guess what? Mirror... mirror-I can eventually see my self without green/pink lines!
7. Opened camera and tried frontage camera and it works too like a magic!
I am clueless for what may have caused the issue, but I am certain that the update it self (and it was camera update included) did NOT solve the issue, because the camera still gave green/pink lines after update.
The mirror application would not even start!
Same with powering down/restart
It may be a combination of the above 3 and DISABLING FAST REBOOT which may have solved the issue.

If warranty period is over why dont you consider flashing a custom rom and see if it solves the issue.
can you check if your g-sensor is working or not? has the camera been working fine with AOSP ROMs?

have you fixed it yet? i have the same problem with my HTC one X.... please message me if you have seen this thank you very much!! ))))
Hi Everyone , my GF's hox gave her the same problem last week , after intensive googleFU and trying all the solutions listed (even a crazy ass one) i decided to open the damn thing and voila! there's a small square connector located above the top left side of the battery , somehow (yeah "somehow" as my gf swear she did not droped it...¬¬) it became loose , so i just presed on it , checked the camera and YESSSSS!!! it was working again, so no app problem , no gsensor problem, just a small connector .
So thats it , it worked for me , so if you re still doing factory resets , changing roms , heating the phone , etc etc , you might want to open it and check that connector .
check the picture , remember , the flat square metal looking connector above the top left side of the battery.

What firmware are you using? I suggest you to flash new firmware first and check if it works then, otherwise it sounds hardware problem...
B111
i did the factory reset. Still the same.
I updated the stock 4.3 gallery app. Still nothing. Rear camera was ok.
When i wanted to shift...bumm...
Can i rooted the b114 just like i did with eroot?
is there any service menu to check the hardware?

hi, I am back. so after a while I flashed the B125 and factory reset as well and the problem is still the same.
Sometimes (very very rarely) I can see my face on the screen but most of the time I got the same message:
Gallery has stopped...
Does anyone has any kind of / sort of / kinda Idea?
maybe it is hardware problem but I do not want to give it back to the shop and miss my phone for 2 weeks... :S
Any Idea would be appreciated so much!

Camera error cannot connect to camera
I previously had the latest stable CM 10.1 build on my HTC One X (International, Tegra 3) and had no problems at all. I decided to give another ROM a go and found the PAC-MAN ROM, so i flashed the appropriate endeavoru nightly build, did the wipes and flashed ROM/gapps/boot.img and everything was fine.
After signing into my Google account the phonebook/dialer stopped working and kept coming up with FC errors and my wi-fi and signal dropped out. I reflashed, re-wiped etc and tried again, and decided not to log into my google account before doing anything. Calls and signals were all fine and everything works, until signing into my Google account on the phone, where it decides to cut signals out and not make/receive calls.
Is there any sort of answer to this or will i just have to use my nandroid backup to go back to CM10.1 to make my phone work again?
Seems that all the great features of the ROM mean nothing if you can't even use your phone for what it's meant to be used for... :silly:
use the 28th build as that is the one i have been using for a week without any problem(except front camera not working in stock camera app)
