Aside from the two "bloat" apps I am pretty sure the root and unlock process are similar .. p3droid didn't have any complaints about his Verizon gnex

I have zero bloat on my phone. I got mine about 2 weeks ago it is a development version and has the development menu in settings. I unlocked my botloader and rooted using super boot v2 and installed the GSM clockwork, yes GSM clockwork works fully you just need to delete the recovery from boot.p file from system. If you dont every time you want to enter cwm you have to re install it with rom manager. I moved it to the cwm folder in SD card. Now cwm works flawlessly and I was able to make a full nandroid. I gave mike my boot image and system image he is working on building a rom now for LTE models since that's what I have. I will be testing the LTE version for him when he pms it to me.
If you have any other questions feel free to ask I don't mind.

Thanks so much for the info, I was a little worried about VZW being the carrier and controlling updates but looks like it still is a pure google experience, Glad you were able to provide the dump so devs can go to work early! that way when i finally get my device on verizon ill have something to flash.
Yesss. A pure Google phone on the Big Red. Finally! Thanks for this little dump.

Even if vzw locks the boot loader mine will remain unlocked so people should be able to figure out how to unlock it

Which build is this one? I'm stuck on IFL10B and have noticed a few bugs. Was wondering if your build version might fix them.
4.0 I don't have the build as I am no longer on it. Try flashing adroid revolution hd lte version if you have lte devoce. it is built off my system and boot image

yes I have confirmed that as well. make sure you delete recovery-from-boot.p file in system
..
Thanks for all the input last week guys. My new phone will be arriving tomorrow night! I plan on rooting immediately, what method is the best? Automated? Have there been any Samsung updates that break this method?
As far as modems goes, which one should I flash for the least amount of LoS issues? I've been hearing about two lately.
I plan on flashing cm7, dual booting if that is ready yet (I need gps sometimes). I understand there is a lot if drama recently but I just love cm and hope that he's got dual booting finished.
Lastly, what are these Odin counts that I have read about? Do they keep track of flashes for screwing you out of your warranty should something go wrong? Is there a way to reverse this?
What other roms would you recommend? I understand ics is a ways out.... That will be disappointing because I am rocking a very solid build on my Evo Shift....
I can't wait for tomorrow night!!!
Thanks again

Use sfhub's autoroot for quick and easy rooting. The EK02 OTA update and the EL13 leak have both helped people a lot with LOS issue. Many/most of the custom ROMs are now based off of EL13. All of the custom ROMs are pretty much fine tuned now with most of the good mods. The only thing you may need to add is 4g Hotspots hack

^ sfhub's method.
I wouldn't worry about cm too much. Rumor has it that darchstar is working on cm9 official for us. I owe him a lot got his hero work which got us cm on the Eris.

Oh wow that is good to hear! I used his hero rom back in the day... Also believe he was the first to get Gingerbread running. Had that running for a couple weeks until I "upgraded" to my Shift and was stuck with freakin sense and no permanent root for a few months...
Now that I have ics on my Shift I'll be temporarily stuck on gingerbread... This is truly great news! Darchstar is the man!

Try it stock for a few days just so you can get a feel for it.
This way if you Root it and something doesnt work you will at least know it worked on Stock.
GPS, WiFi, Los are examples.
I am on a stock ROM and my device is working great. No issues.
I got mine a few days before Christmas, and I am loving it. I am coming from the original HTC Evo 4G that I had since it came out. I ran CM on that for nearly the entire time I had that, so I was a little sad to see the E4GT did not have CM support. That being said, I am actually glad it did not have CM support because I have had to learn more about other ROMs, kernels, etc than I had to with CM.
I rooted right out of the box using the auto root method (stickied in the development thread).
I flashed the EL13 modem next and have had no issues.
I am now running Strongsteve's Odexed Blue ROM with the Rogue Desperado kernel v1.3.0.
I would post links, but I am not allowed to yet since my post count is so low.
To me, the phone is a lot snappier than my Evo 4G, and I have been generally pleased with it so far.
Awesome thanks for the info. I plan to run stock for a few days... It should be arriving over the next couple of hours. None of the Samsung updates break root right? I want to update it asap but don't want to lose access to root

I've been out of the android game for awhile and now I'm rusty. What's the easiest way to root this thing? I have the cdma version on 4.0.2. Can I do it from the phone itself? Also it seems this phone does some awesome things others couldn't. Anyone wanna point out a few of the highlights? And how do you edit colors in a kernal? This phone is mind boggling compared to my incredible

You can root using that or do it the old fashion style,
1. Get drivers
2. fastboot oem unlock
3. fastboot flash clockwork recovery
4. flash a ROM
5. flash a kernel
6. reboot
7. play.
Thanks any suggestions on a kernal? I haven't found a from I quite love yet. I'm thinking about trying aosp but I'm kinda liking the phone for now.

Hi. I enjoyed using Boot Manager on my Evo 3d, so I decided to try it on my Nexus. All I can say is wow! So much faster then on the Evo, I'm guessing its do to the speed of the internal storage. Anybody else using it?

I tried it but it FCs when I open it.
I installed it and it didn't FC on me. I have yet to use any of the functions though.
I have aokp, cm9, miui, and paranoid android installed with it and love it so much.....

Been using Boot Manager for some time now and it is by far the best money I have ever spent on an app. It is the crackflashers dream come true. I had an Evo 3D as well and yes it is faster on the GNex and yes it is because of the internal storage. Roms in Boot Manager slots will be just as fast as your Phone Rom and slot Roms can be used as your primary Rom. I moved to VZW when they got the GNex and not Sprint and when I first got it Boot Manager didn't support the GNex. Needless to say, I was excited when they added it to the supported devices list.

This app is SICK!!! You can have as many ROM's as your 32GB phone can hold. I've heard of boot manager back when I had my EVO 3D but I had never tried it. Wow I was missing out.

You can have it restore to a slot from a Android or you can just instal a rom to a a slot just like you would to your phone.

You just install a zip to the slot and hit the "boot rom" button and it'll boot to that slot. You can have like 10 roms in 10 slots and boot to any one of them...without wiping your primary rom.

It is awesome. I use liquid 1.3 as my phone ROM and paranoid Android in the first slot. Paid for the app to test other ROMS. Apparently it does have an issue with Franco kernel in a SD ROM.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
Used it on my Thunderbolt as well as my Gnex.
Currently I have stock as my phone rom. One of my slots is CM9 with just a few apps in order to minimize battery drain while on vacation. I play with other rooms as well.
In the past I had a from with nothing but games, and another with the other stuff. It was nice to not have other apps and notifications messing up gaming (and who cares about work email on the weekend anyway!)
Also nice to have a sandbox to mess with anything new/questionable.

Has anyone figured out how to solve some roms not having access to the SD partition? I really want to have AOKP installed, but if the virtual SD doesn't work its kind of useless.

I've noticed this as well. I can access the SD partition using Redemption ROM, but not on Liquid Smooth or Paranoid Android. Could it be an issue with the Franco kernel?
Hello,
I am due for an phone upgrade in a few weeks. I currently have a Sprint Samsung Epic 4G Touch with a data/charge port that does not work. I am considering not upgrading to a new phone, but instead tether wirelessly to an android tablet which I may purchase. I have not any success with any tethering applications with the SGS2. As much as I would the newest phone Samsung Galaxy Note 3, I imagine it would not be rooted for a while and I would rather have a phone that can be rooted without too much trouble. I plan to tether an android tablet to it.
Any recommendations or suggestions?
Thank you in advance.

The post above you already said enough. Epic 4G never had an official update beyond FC09/19. If you have GCxx then you are an Epic 4G Touch - separate forum available elsewhere.
