Dear all,
I could not post this thread directly into twa_priv thread on ROM-JB 4 .2.1. I installed 4.2.1 since the first ROM was released. Beside the volume slider & Tablet UI which is not available now and the deep sleep (fixed recently), it is seem that everything run smoothly. But my PC & laptop would not recognize the Fire since 4.2.1 & I have to download the new ROM from the Fire itself. I reinstalled ADB, showed in Device manager but when connect to PC, nothing happen in the Fire (instead of show the USB storage mode in all 4.1.1 & 4.1.2 ROM. I do not want to go back to 4.1.2. Anyone have similar problem?
I'm noticing the same thing.
Under Settings, go to System then User Interface. Check the box with the USB notification

I guess that this actually doesn't work. Sorry.

I figured it out! I hope this helps.
First, you must go to Settings, then at the bottom under About, tap the build number about seven times. Then follow these instructions:

I tried that. It didn't work. When I plug the usb cable in a notification with an alien head shows up that says "Android debugging enabled. Select to disable debugging." If I select the notification, it takes me to settings.
In case it matters:
Computer: OpenSuse 12.2
Tablet: Kindle Fire CM10.1 1/17/2013
Any ideas? Thanks,

It's different this time around. There is no "USB detected. Select to transfer files" or whatever it says. What you have is correct. Just let it sit. You don't need to do anything. After about 5-10 sec you should receive a notification on your computer that you have a mass storage device. That is your kindle.
So what you have is correct.

Hello, guys,
I recently rooted my Fire (6.2.2) with Kindle Fire Utility (0.9.3). Kindle is working but my PC (Win7 32) can't recognize it when i'm connecting kindle to PC. And Kindle Fire Utility can't connect to device since then (statusffline).
Maybe I forgotten to switch to normal mode?
How can I fix this?
Thanks.

With your Kindle plugged in and with KFU (even if it says it is offline), press 1 for Bootmode Menu and select Normal.

I tried to do this. Got the message "kindle told to reload in normal mode". Kindle reloaded but the problem left.
Sounds like you may have to reload your drivers. Is the computer recognizing the Kindle at all. I had the problem when trying to load files to the SD card that it would not show up as a storage device. I unchecked USB debugging and it showed up. If you are trying to establish an ADB connection you may want to check your ADB setup.
Try cd C:\kindleadb
adb devices
This will tell you if your ADB connection is working.
Maybe this video will help.

Gives empty output. I'm using adb bundled with Kindle Fire Utility
The same thing happened to me and I just deleted all the files that were associated with the ADB and KFU and reloaded everything. Before you do that you can go into device manager and pull up the properties for unknown device(kindle) go into update drivers and point to the file you downloaded when installing KFU.
I used this video to root mine and the part on installing the drivers works. Make sure you download the driver files attached to the video. Look under "show more" --Links in the video description.
Hope this is helping and not making you more confused.

The problem solved. It was Windows drivers problem. I've got a USB-stick in another slot during all operations. When I removed it everything worked normally. My motherboard is Asus P5G41T-M.

I attempted to root my kindle fire and halfway through the rooting processes somehow the Kindle Fire got disconnected. I am now stuck at the splash screen that displays the white and orange Kindle Fire logo and it will not get past this screen. Nothing else happens its just the static logo. I went online and ordered a fast boot cable and attempted to fix it that way but it still will not work and remains on the static splash screen. The computer does not even seem to recognize that it's plugged in nor is it listed in the device manager. I have scoured countless forums trying to find a solution to unbrick my Kindle Fire. Any suggestions on how to get it back and working? I've even searched this forum countless times and cannot find anything that will work! Please help!

Yes, it was using the Kindle Fire Utility. Any way just to reinstall 6.3 and have it back to unrooted normalness?
If you broke the bootoader it just will not be that simple you will need firekit http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1430038 .

As long as your laptop can detect..you are save... do the following and try:
1. Reboot your kindle and insert usb cable.
2. Start KFU on your PC
3. Once the Kindle Fire logo appear, at your laptop KFU, quickly hit "1" for Boot Menu, and then hit "1" again for Normal Boot.
Let me know if it works...

I faced the same issue and I precisely had done what ataraxist has suggested.
On your laptop, you might also need to install the drivers which come along with KFU.
That is precisely what works unless something is broken.
Thanks to all that replied! I will be trying this tonight and will let you know if I am able to get it to work! Thanks again!

Try it again, only this time when you get "waiting for device", hold the power button until it shuts off and start it up again. You may have to repeat the process until you have a custom bootloader installed.

Yeah, Windows 8 won't work. Boot a Linux LiveUSB and run SoupKit to eliminate Windows driver issues altogether.

Thanks to all that replied! The Soupkit worked! Loaded Ubuntu 12.10 onto a flashdrive, downloaded Soupkit ran it, it took a few reboots but then it finally ran TWRP and I was able to wipe and install the 6.3.1 upload and all is working now! Thanks a ton once again!

First off, did you use KFU?
OK, either way, make s sure the drivers from that are installed.
Probably restart your computer after you install drivers.
If that doesn't work, reboot your kindle, go into TWRP, mount your sd partition with it connected to your computer.
Hopefully one of these work.

Did you try different USB cables? Is ADB Debugging enabled under Developer options? If so, you might try disabling it and then plugging your KF in. That may fix your recognition issue.

Go into Settings -> Storage and select "USB computer connection" (may have to tap on the settings button in the top right to get this option, depending on what build you are using). Make sure you have Mass storage checked.
I've found some of the earlier CM builds had USB issues, but the newest ones work just fine (CM10.1/SG7 definitely works, as does Smooth ROM 1.5+). If all else fails, go into TWRP and mount your SD card from there instead.
nice catch, @zerbey. I didn't even think of this. personally, MTP works for me and mass storage doesn't work. experiment with both to see which works.

My thread title pretty much explains what happened after I tried uninstalling some pre-installed apps (using Clean Master) in my Kindle Fire HD 8.9.
My question to XDA kindle owners... is the potential fix for my device just a 10 dollar factory cable away? Can my device be restored in factory setting once I get in to fastboot and find the Android equivalent of Windows system restore?
Sidenote:
1) 2 days ago I succeeded rooting my Kindle Fire HD 8.9 with no issues. In that same day I installed setCPU to keep my device running at 1.5 Ghz. I admit... the only crazy thing I did with my device was attempting to uninstall pre-installed applications that came with my Kindle.
2) my desktop computer knows the Kindle Fire HD 8.9 is being connected to USB... but a few seconds later it refuses.
Fastboot cables don't work on 8.9" models, you need to install the drivers when the device briefly is detected with the ones in my signature if it doesn't have them installed already. If/when they are installed you just need to so only turn the kindle off and unplug the cable and run "fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product" and when it says waiting for device plug the kindle in, it should then go into fastboot. From there you can restore it with kffa.

That's what it is supposed to do on the 8.9” model, you have to try to install the driver while it briefly appears. If you can't kffa might have something that will help, if not you can always do this from a Ubuntu live CD, which is easy because the drivers are built in, only thing you have to do is install the fastboot command from the repos, but that's easy as long as you use the 13.10 live CD.

Ah that's cause your on windows 8, you have to disable windows driver signature enforcement, look it up on Google, then try again. Also no offense but could you just tell me what the error is next time, I use the xda app on my kindle for the most part and I can't select those as links without opening it to my browser then copying and pasting it.

You need to disable the signature enforcement that both Windows 7 X64 and Windows 8 users have to deal with. This post covers it better than I can type it. http://www.fotoclubinc.com/blog/how...on-of-windows-7-printer-drivers-on-windows-8/
My status so far...
1. Install stunt513's driver with windows driver signature disabled..... check
2. run fastboot in command prompt ..... check (but "fastboot mode" logo on the screen is just there... not moving)
3. run KFFA 4.1.100 (RunMe.bat) ..... check
4. attempted to run 1. Device Diagnostics (Safe) >>> 1. Ready to Test ADB Communication
result...
* daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037
* daemon started successfully
No changes happening and kindle fire is still in "fastboot mode" logo.
I'm not sure if I should take the next step in attempting to restore the kindle fire (option 4 in KFFA 4.1.100) because I might hardware brick it for real this time.
When using kffa I believed there is a option or question it asks you about putting it into fastboot mode for you or something, you need to tell it not to because it sounds like its just hanging on a adb command that cant execute because its in fastboot mode already.

I having ever used it before, I assumed as long as you had java installed it was pretty straight forward as running the run me.bat as admin, I would assume the stuff in red means if have the android SDK to take it out of your paths temporarily.

You are supposed to open the device manager, find the device with a triangle next to it, usually will say jem unless its not an 8.9" device, then it would say something like otter2, or Tate, right click it and hit update driver and point it to where you extracted it, then it should install.

It shows as jem, but on power-up it appears so briefly that I cannot install the driver for it. From power-on to device appearing to disappearing takes 1-2 seconds.
Yea you have to be fast, this is why I stick to Linux... Kffa might have a driver install option that installs to the driver cache on windows so it would auto install the driver when detected, at least after you hit skip obtaining from Microsoft update. Not sure about that though as I have never used kffa.
