[Q] Unlocked TMobile Samsung Note II no data on ATT Wireless

Hello All,
I am having an issue where I am unable to get any data on my Unlocked TMobile Samsung Note II. I am currently using a ATT One X+ and get full bars of LTE service in my area, while I understand I will not be able to get LTE service on the device, I cannot get any data. The default APN on the phone was Cingular 410, I've also attempted to create a new APN mirroring the exact settings on my HTC One X+. I've reflashed the stock OS and bootloader and issue persists.
I've done some searching and found one similar issue, I am currently using a NANO LTE slim from my ATT iPhone 5 with a nano to micro converter. The post I found said the user had some issue doing this as well and went to ATT for a LTE Micro SIM and his issue was solved. I'm not sure how this would make a difference since the Nano to Micro works just fine in my ATT One X+.
I was under the impression from what I read online I would just need to pop in my ATT LTE sim into the Unlocked TMobile Note II and be on my way with any data lower than LTE. I have also verified I am successfully able to make calls with the ATT sim inserted into the Unlocked TMobile Note II
Any insight would be beneficial? Thanks!

Turns out I thing I got scammed, thanks craigslist. I think the modem is blown out on this phone, My phone will not even register a SIM is inserted in it anymore, even when using a TMobile SIM.
Is there anything I can do, go to TMobile or reach out to Samsung for support?

Would you mind sharing what happened and what's wrong with the modem? When you bought the phone, didn't you put your sim in and test it?

You need to do some work, but im pretty sure everything can be back up and running, another user was able to restore the blown efs/nv/modem on a messed up GNII, once he had that working, even injected a Behold imei onto the phone and get full service...
Search the forum for the thread, ill try to find it and post it here for ya
Edit: here is what the guy did... the links he refers you to should show you all the steps you need to do... hopefully this helps....

what i did was backed up my new notes efs/ nv files and used them in my other note.. now i have 2 notes with same serial number and imei i gave one to my wife and both are working like new.. but having 2 phones on same family plan with same ime/sderial numberi just wont cut it. so i decided to change the imei and foud this....

the old imei is bad and wont work so i need a different one.. lucky i had a old samsung behold2 laying around the house .. turned it *#06# a new imei!! yay now i dont have a clone phone but more of Frankenstein monster.. cool huh when i log in to my tmo account it says samsung behold on the other line,,

Can't get straight talk to work on my unlocked device

Friday I bought an unlocked Att galaxy note 2 from craigslist. I took it hope and ported my att straight talk number from the normal sd card to the Att mini sd. I waited until my number ported, put my card into the phone. I turned on my phone and had 4g serivce all day. Next morning I had nothing. I would flux between 4g, edge and nothing. As of today, i don't get 4g at all. I'm lucky to hit 1 bar of edge. Now when I don't have serive, I get nearly full bars of emergency calling. I tried the tmobile sim from straight talk and my fiancee's tmobile pay as you go card. Same deal. I tried every apn setting I could dig up. I also checked to see that the IMEI wasn't blocked. Any help would be nice. this is would be one heck of an expensive 5" tablet considering I have a nexus 7.

Custom ROM, unlocked? You ordered the micro SIM from straight talk? Have you tried an att SIM card? you said you got the same thing from your GF's t-mobile SIM, could it be that straight talk registered your SIM with only t-mobile towers?

They person said they unlocked throug att. It was unrooted w/ stock rom. Ordered, no but my micro sd was from a kit I bought when I started straight talk. It was the att straight talk micro sim. It didn't come with a micro tmobile sim so I had my normal sim cut. I tried both of those and my gf's tmobile sim. All three had the same results. I'd get service for maybe an hour then it mostly stay in emergency. I unlocked the aws bands and I got service for a bit but then back to not able to find. Under network operators it can usually only find ATT. I rooted and flashed a stock tmobile rom (read it might help) and nothing. I did notice that sometimes when I restart the phone it will say Att, like its trying to connect. I'm starting to think that the people I got it from maybe didn't unlock the phone. It seems to want to connect only to att but I'm not getting any kind of message saying my sim is invalid or anything. I checked the IMEI number and it says it's not blacklisted.

Ok if your placing a different carrier SIM in your phone, and your not getting any kind of SIM pop up! Then the phone should b unlocked!! As far as the signal not sticking might just ba modem thing. So if you haven't tried changing the radio/modem then that would b your next option. One other thing is to check your APN setting also! That may also help you out. I made a list if you need them!

Nope, never got any kind of sim pop up other than the one at start up that says prepairing.
The modem/radio thing, is that when you hit *#7284# and change it to the second one from the bottom? Or is it more of something I need to download and flash? Like I said, I did the aws enable thing.
More detail on my signal change is, I'll be at 4g after a factory reset. I'll get 4g with near full bars. After a short time it will either drop to edge with maybe 1-2 bars or just get emergency signal. Mostly it sits on emergency. I've only seen it try to connect to att with a tmobile sim a few times last night while working on it. I was questioning the antenna being broken but I usually get near full bars of emerency.

#1 you do have a TMO GN2 right?
#2 are you still on stock Rom?
#3 the*#7284 menu, don't know who told you to go in there but that's not how you change your modem at ALL!!
You flash your new modem in recovery as you do any other zip file!
#4 did you try changing your APN setting, or setting up a new 1??
I'm my buddies TMO GN2. He has a TMO modem, with att apn setting.
So if it's an actual TMO GN2 then add I said b4, your ok flashing a TMO modem/radio. Whatever you want to call it!!!
Do me a favor take a screen shot of your about phone. And I'll b able to c what you have!

I'll get screen shots when I get home from work. I don't the phone with me.
1. I have an Att unlocked GN2
2. I'm on stock rom, but I'm rooted with CWM recovery.
3. I unlocked the aws settings to open up the tmobile abilites this phone as built in (according to the instuctions and such from galaxynote2root.com). That answer is also why i dialed the funky *# number.
4. I did not try the settings from your link. My GF has the phone during the day since she doesnt need to have solid service. Thats why I'm using her tmobile account. eventually I'll be popping in my straight talk sim if I can get this to be something more than an expensive 5" tablet.

That's the kind of things that Happen when imei is blocked.. But as you said you checked maybe call again to see.

I guess I can check again. I've check a couple times. Its just wierd that when I flash a rom or factory reset or sometimes it only takes a restart but I'll get like 5-13 m/bs downloads on 4g for anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour. Then It will just pass between edge and emergency. I wish I had a true att card to test it on to see if it works for them. I'm going to try my new att straight talk sim tonight and if that doesn't, I think I'm done messing with it. Just going to sell it as is and pick up a nexus 4 or GSIII.

Hopefully it works and it doesn't end up blocked cause thats some messed up people that do that I bought my first note 2 on Craigslist and it had a screen protector on it after I got home took it off some many scratches on it . Guy said it was brand new . He also changed his number when i tried calling him . My brother also got scammed with a blocked imei I dont understand how people do that

Yeah. This guy has remained n contact and stuff. It was sold as "like new" but there were a few scratches on it. Good thing is zagg covered them up. Bad thing is, I spent $45 on a nice case and zagg for a phone that I can't seem to use. I did find someone at my work willing to pop their att sim in tomorrow and see how that goes. This is the nicest phone I've used. I like pretty much everything about it. It's a big upgrade from my google nexus.

I understand what you mean! But there are those type of people out there always trying to get over. Or make a quick buck$!! Which is SAD. Guess that's why I always buy my phones from the AT&T Store. Never any problems!
Side note: Always over inspect something your buying from someone online!!! Especially electronics...

Ok that's good your going to check it with a actual AT&T SIM. Cause then you'll know if it's the phone or the other SIM card you have?? If it still acts up with the AT&T SIM. Then it's the phone!!:banghead:

QUESTION?? I went back thru the post and noticed you said you had, a micro sim kit? Is it something to make a micro out of a regular SIM? If that's the case then I hope that's not causing your problems. Or even started them!

One other thing you can try is to put the stock firmware back on the phone and see if that restores everything back to normal for you. Just a taught... because maybe,, that guy had flashed a Rom on there. But just put back what he taught was a stock Rom. Like one of the stock releases from here..

I bought a straightalk kit from walmart. It comes with a 1 month card for service and 3 sims. 1 normal att st sim, 1 micro att sim and 1 normal tmobile st sim. The problem is once you activate an att card and then switch to another one, that card is dead. Att is trying to get out of st.
I did root at one point but then return it to stock after. I recently rooted and flashed again to try out a tmobile rom.
This is a lesson for me. I didn't know about IMEI on a phone so I didn't know it was easy to screw someone. I paid 350 for the phone. I guess that was too good to be true. As much as I like this phone, I think I should have just bought the nexus 4.

Ok so you think the imie# blocked, messed up some how?? Just as Brazil said is the unblocked or unblocked on AT&T??
And yes I know AT&T is trying to get away from ST! But shouldn't be problem for you to use ST from TMO or AT&T. Which they both share.. FYI

Thanx for the info! Actually if his imie# is blocked then it wouldn't work on TMO either. Because TMO& AT&T share there blocked imie# list!! So wondering why his is giving so much problems?? IDK

Reason I thought it was blocked was because my brother got scammed with a blocked imei and he would put the sim in it will work then signal will just drop then he will restart it and it work then always keep droping.

That is kind of what is happening to me. I have done several IMEI checkers and they all come back valid. I just checked again and it's still marked as valid. I'm porting my st number from regular sim to micro now. Its been about 2 hours so hopefully it activates soon. I'm hoping it works.

I have, hopefully, a simple problem. I recently upgraded to a galaxy s4 from the s3. the s3 is a year old as my corporate contract allows me to upgrade my phone every year. so I am with bell, and my wife is with telus. she wanted my s3 since she has the iphone 4 and is sick of it. I updated the software on the s3 about 3 weeks ago so some of the threads on here wouldn't work for unlocking it. I went to the cell unlocker website and paid for a code. I still have the email they sent with all the codes, unlock, freeze etc, and it worked. I put her sim card in and could text and call out. the phone says telus where it said bell before. however the data will not work. Wi-Fi does but mobile data will not. we went to a telus store, they upgraded her sim card but to no avail. I tried searching for threads here but didn't come up with something like this. the phone is stock, no mods or anything, I even reset it back to factory settings, sim still works just no mobile data. I tried to get bell to unlock it before but they said they couldn't cuz it was tied to a contract.
I hope someone has seen this before and can help because i'm at a loss.

Have you looked into the APN settings? I have them around here somewhere. I can locate them and forward them to you if you'd like. You can also find them right on the Telus website. I'm thinking that's a good place to start.

that would be awesome, thanks. I know the rep for the telus kiosk at Devonshire mall went in to look at a few things, but he wasn't sure and google what was happening but he said it was all at&t stuff, then gave me back my phone. but yeah I would appreciate the info. not sure if my email shows or not but it is [email protected]. I will try that out and post back as to what is happening.

Not registered on network

I have flashed back to stock rom, got a new sim, pulled battery...
I have no idea what to do.
I even updated with kies.
It works for about a minute then drops call. Then it continues with nit regustered on network.
Currently, I am a AT&T Customer but im unlocked.
I contacted tmibile, and at&t and the phone is noy blacklisted.
The imei is the same in settings as on the back.
Ideas?

Same happend to me this minday and I restored back up n worked ok next day same issue.my note 2 was blacklisted after having it for a year.i bought mine on craigs befor xmas guess I was lucky it wasnt blacklisted sooner.any way in a bind I just picked up another note 2 from tmo 50.down but yea full signal cant register on network imei in tackt looks bad.good luck .the check esn website takes a while to update.tgey claim that blacklisted phones only work outside the u.s now

I went to both AT&T and T-Mobile and the phone isn't blacklisted.
So. Far I have figured out this much, if I set it at 2g, I have full bars. I have full service right now and I set my network to AT&T my searching available networks. The I changed 2g, to 2g/3g/4g.
Will it stay I dont know, its driving me nuts.
Is it possible to be unlocked. But not totally? Should I try flashing back to 4.1..1 then doing the unlock and then flash a updated stock rom.
Or flash a AT&T modem since I want to use their service?
When I went back to stock, It did a OTA update. Could of that messed with my connection? Maybe when I did the factory reset, it set it back to T-mobile?
Sorry such a noob!
I just typed this whole thing and still shiw 4g and 3 bars. So probably a few minutes which is better than before.

Black listed note 3

So i bought my tmobile note 3 on CL. Bad idea yes i know. Well the phone was working super awesome for 3 weeks and now its reported lost/stolen. So no LTE or service. I tried calling Tmobile and there was nothing they could do. I tried calling the seller and no answer. Ive tried region lock away no help there. Anyone know how to fix this?

Work with T-mobile to get the phone back to the owner.

Nothing you can do. Install Google voice/groove up and call with wifi

RegionLock Away has worked for a lot of people (including myself). Are you sure you can't get it unlocked using that? There's a thread that has a lot of troubleshooting tips somewhere in this section for Chainfire's app (things like using a non-T-mobile SIM, not allowing the app to reboot (i.e. rebooting manually and changing SIM card) and inputting the correct APN settings).

Well the thing with region lock away is i want to use my phone through tmobile. My note 3 is a tmobile phone

I'm sorry to tell you this, but if it's blocked by T-Mobile, there's really nothing to be done. T-Mobile just won't budge (although I have read posts where people basically lied and got T-Mobile to unblock the device, but I am dubious about those claims). Your only options are to unlock to another carrier, or sell the device. If you sell it on Ebay to an international buyer, that would be the best way to recoup most of your money. Neither option is ideal, of course.

Yep, I almost got burned buying a s3 for my mom. Luckily we met at a tmobile store and verified the esn. Turns out it was reported lost/stolen. Chalk it up as a learning experience.

Like was said a couple of posts prior:
With a BLACKLISTED - N900T - you can:
1) Root, and Use Region Lock Away, it may possibly unlock the sim slot - so you can use an At&t based Sim Card. (Or, you may still need to get an unlock code from someone.)
2) Or - Sell for what its worth on Ebay.- Cut your losses, and find another Handset.
I have bought more than a few from people here locally (different models), seems Craigslist is running rampant (or rather the criminals) with those who are buying a phone, selling for cash on cl, and then reporting lost / stolen for an insurance claim. Then the buyer is stuck holding the bag, and has a tablet. (Or, bends and changes carriers possibly). Its sad but the only true way to be sure the device will be able to be used, is to go with the seller to (Tmo, Vzw, Att etc.) and get the rep to note the account. I have tried to do so via the 800 number, and had mixed results.
