[Q] My LG Nitro HD AT&T with ICS turn off and gets really hot!!! - LG Nitro HD

Hi, i have a Lg Nitro HD p930 AT&T with ICS.
I only have the phone for a few days i bought it used on mint condition on ebay.
The problem is that my phone turn off itself and the only way i can turn it on is taking off the battery and then put it back again, also i notice that the battery discharge really fast when i do that, for example if that happens with 90% of the battery when i do the process to turn the phone on, the battery is in 73%.
Another thing is that my phone sometimes gets extremely hot.
Obviously im not an expert but i think maybe its the battery because i only get 4-6 hours with simple use, just chat a little in whatsapp and view a few post on facebook.
I hope you can help me, thanks in advance.

Random reset is an issue on official ics
U can hold power button for 10sec or takeout the battery.
This phone battery usage is high and I think its because of the ips screen.
If you wanna check your battery ,turn off wifi and data and leave your phone for about 5 hours and check battery percentage it should not be more than 5%.but it depend on signal strength of your 3G/4G network
when I play high graphic games or browsing web for long time with high brightness phone gets hot in up sides and its normal
If your phone gets very hot it might be a problem
Sent from my LG-P930 using Tapatalk 2

Yeah, common issue with this phone and ICS and there is no easy fix. You will also sometimes see a red halo on the screen if it turns off by itself and gets hot.
Try to root it and install HoNo's Full Throttle. I heard it doesn't have that issue.

Afriend told me something similar happen to him a he download from de market the App Wake Lock, i download it and the phone hasnt reset since i install it but steal get hot when i use the GPS or chat in multiples APPs and the battery sucks even instaling juice defender.
i just finish rooting my phone a few minutes ago, i would like to instal cyanogen 10, im going to research how to cuz im new i never had install a ROM BUY maybe it work better

can someone send me the link or a tutorial of how to intall a ROM i had my NITRO rooted but i never install a ROM.
wich ROM YOU RECOMMEND i would like a rom that as stable as an official version and dont get my phone hot
thanks

Did you try doing a factory reset? (Hold volume down + power when turning the phone on)

i brick my phone

Yes, you can unbrick if you're using official ICS; in fact, that's the only way you'd be able to install a custom ROM in the 1st place coming from official ICS. If you just want stock ICS you can use the LG Mobile Update software to restore your device to the stock LG firmware; but if you want a custom ROM you will need to follow one of the 3 unbrick guides located here in the general forum.

There is no conceivable way to brick an unmodified phone by doing a factory reset, but given the other symptoms that you are describing it might suggest that your phone has a hardware problem. Did you get a warranty with it? It has been my experience that people that have stability issues with this phone and it is 100% stock ICS points to one of two possibilities: software, that a factory reset would resolve or hardware. Good luck.

You did root your phone on stock ics but bootloader is locked , so you can't flash any rom via cwm and your phone is bricked.
The only way to unlock bootloader is following unbrick method instructions and back to android 2.3 which has unlocked boot loader and then install rom manager and cwm, then you can flash your favarite rom
If you wana flash stock ics ,use HoNo at&t official ics cmw flashable nor flash what ever you like

My phone keep on for 1day and 19 with some internet and games. Its 1% battery for about 2 hours, but it still working) no reboot and no problems without wake lock))) Its sleep like a calm baby almost all night long)

What the hell is wrong with my phone

Can someone tell me if this is a software or hardware issue. I've been rooted for quite a while btw, not a noob. Since last night the phone will randomly reboots itself after a few minutes of turning on. I can't get it to stay on for an extended period of time without rebooting. Also, if I turn it off, it turns itself back on. During the moments it is on, if I press the lock button nothing happens. The screen doesn't turn off. The only way I keep it off is by pulling the battery. You'd think itd have to do with the ROM, but I've been on the 7/13 build of AOKP since it came out, so almost a month now. This issue didn't arise until yesterday, also I'm not underclocking/undervolting. It's using the default TWRP recovery that came with it. So, is it a hardware issue? Should I take it in for replacement??
Hmmm If I was you I'd definitely try another rom or something . Maybe back up what you have and try a simple One click sfhub package to see if the problem still exists... Weird stuff happens some times
And if it happens on another rom/one click, then yeah its safe to say to take it in to Sprint

I've had that sort of thing happen when I flashed a new ROM and the download was corrupted... flashed it again and the same thing happened.. I had to re-download the file and then flash and all was good. I'd guess it was a software issue.. I'd wipe everything, download a new ROM (check the md5) and flash all new stuff..
I had the same issue on milestone 6. Went stock for a few days, then to another build and I have been OK.Remember all that glitters isn't gold.Sometimes "unofficial" builds me just that. Not 100% ready.
That's a Rom issue not hardware, oh that's right your on ics, no wonder. Gingerbread will fix that in a jiffy.

I've been on the ROM for almost a month now and this issue didn't surface until today? I don't think it has to do with the ROM per se. Luckily for whatever reason it stopped, but I'm still curious as to what caused it in the first place should it ever happen again.
Turning itself on sounds like your button is stuck. I know of no ROM that can boot your phone when powered off.
Aokp aosp builds are extremely different that TW based roms.I'm way to sick and tired to fully explain. Please know that yes bugs and issues can still arise after some time.Mainly from the complex nature of coding and modifying. Be happy your phone is still working. Customizing a build with all those feature is nice but sometimes it's not worth it

ics 4.0.4

Hey guys how can i update my att nitro hd without root to official ics 4.0.4.I dont want the leaked one only the official one.Is it worth to update to ics,is it faster, has it better benchmark score, is it smoother in the browser and is it better in video playback because some mp4s lag on my nitro hd on gingerbread. And is there anyway that i would brick my device or have any issues with it?Will i be able to go back to GB after update?Thank you very much for the help.Sorry if theese are noob questions.
Hey whats up. All you need to do is go to lg web site and dl the mobile tool.
Dont worry about drivers the tool has a tab feature to do this. Make sure youdo have the drivers installed.
Run the tool ...voila ics
I decided to wait for an official release root method. Too many times leaks have instsbility and issues.
I can wait for root im sure itll happen though i may resort tobtrying manual root. Which is not too big a deal.
Ics is ....awesome! Love it .
Do want root though .
Note: one clicks DO NOT work on the lg ics release.
If you want to go back to gb i believe this is possible via the unbrick method.

Thanks alot i just have a question what would happen if my computer would turn off or internet would stop what would happen with the process?
Worst case scenario, you have to go through the unbricking guide. LG's update tool won't touch the download mode, so you'll be able to recover your phone if the worst happens.

Not much i guesse depends where your at and whats been or hasnt been flashed?
This was common for my g2x version 3(3rd one)while flashing and sometimes powering up phone would just shut down.
Gosh i miss my little toaster with a screen...
Just pull the battery restart the software on the pc and start over.
Should really wait for a more difinitive answer as i am a newb with the nitro.

The official update process is not too complicated. Follow these instructions: http://www.lg.com/us/mobile-phones/ATT_Update/index.jsp
After you're finished, make sure that you turn the phone completely off, hold down the volume down and power buttons for about 5-10 seconds. Let go when the text appears that asks if you want to perform a factory reset. Then press the power button twice to confirm the factory reset. This will solve LOTS of problems that people have with the official ICS.
After that you should be good to go.

I don't know how long it takes since I've never installed it. But the update file is about 400MB so it'll take quite a while to download for you.
Dude.
All you need to do is get the lg tool.
Click the link drumist posted or go to lg.com and navigate to the download page for the mobil update tool.
Download and install tool
Update or install drivers
Turn your phone on to pc mode
Plug in phone
Lg tool will prompt to click your device: p930 or whatever the nitro hd is.
You DO NOT need to factory reset as these kinds of updates do that for you.
So if you are on a stock rom just activate tool and go.
Yes it cant hurt to factory reset from recovery but unecesary imo for you.
The whole process is up to 15 min but it took me only 7 min total.
Shouldnt be more than ten.
Hope this clarifies.

You'd think LG would be smart enough to do that, but the tool actually DOES NOT clear your data partition. Many people have reported this. You will still have apps installed from before you did the update, even though you came from a different version of Android.
You definitely have to do a factory reset yourself if you want to avoid having problems.
It may be the case that the tool is supposed to clear the data partition but fails in some circumstances. I don't know.
Did it clear your data partition when you installed it?
would it work the same way after update?
meaning factory wipe after update installed?
Im sure you're right about that, wouldnt surprise me at all with lg.

As far as I know.
I'm basing this just on what everyone's been saying on this forum. I never installed the ICS update on my phone and don't intend to since I want CWM.
Do I have to do a factory reset after the update or before the update?

[Q] My phone randomly shuts itself off?

After trying a few custom ROMs, I've decided to revert back to the old stock ROM, and unroot because I still had my warranty left. So I downloaded the latest ROM available in the Stock ROMs thread, to be specific I8150DXLM3 Malaysia. :victory:
And after flashing via odin, at random times it would shut itself off, which is rather annoying. There was a phone call from a VIP and I couldn't answer it due to the sudden disappearance. HELP. Grr! I hate the stock ROM now. The only reason I used it I really like the Touchwiz. (Don't really care that much for the warranty) Is there any custom ROM that has Touchwiz that doesn't have all the Samsung bloatware?

Before going back to stock, go pristine using CWM 1st. Format data, system and everything you can see. Then reboot into download mode and flash Stock ROM back.
Odds are unless your phone breaks in hardware stage, the SSC will still know its been rooted before. But then in Malaysia they're all lazy asses so you'd wanna find the one that looks the laziest. **malaysian here

The OTA update that HTC tries to get you to install will fix the problem with the battery indicator. Unless you run this OTA, it will not be accurate no matter what ROM you are running. Beware though, installing this OTA update has been known to cause issues if you plan to install a custom ROM afterward.

not entirely true anymore, you can use the updated radio with newer kernels and not have reboot issues (so if you haven't, i'd reccomend doing so if you're using CFX or something, i did, none of the reboot issues)
I'm pretty sure I have the update, but is there any way to do it from CFX? Or would i need to go back to stock to do it?

[Q] I think my S4 got bricked

Hi all,
from a big smile to sad face... that is how it's been for the past 24 hours
I rooted the phone then went to back up the stock rom after that wiped data, cache, dalvik then went on trying to instal Omega 4.0 and suddenly i got this message my external sd is unreadable. rebooted the phone and noticed that it takes me directly to the downloader screen. i tried to fix the phone by bringing it back to it's stock condition but no luck. I used Odin and so far it's the only thing the phone responds to but no luck with fixing it... I am trying to download the official stock fw hint this link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2267895
but it stops and never finishes the whole amount of data... this seems the only way for me revive my phone back to life!
any suggestions what should I do now? it stopped showing the downloader screen now since I flashed the kernel drive for the S4 through Odin and now shows the black screen with the "Samsung Galaxy S4" writing.
by the way it keeps telling me that my phone isn't rooted but I did root it! am using twrp recovery.
I just got the phone from t-mobile 2 days ago and am debating on returning the phone back to them as the phone is still bootable to the recovery and that might revoke my warranty "i guess?"
Is it possible just to walk in to t-mobile store and swap the phone with another one since it didn't pass the 2 weeks returning window? I also got the phone insurance for it.
Please help, I sure need my phone back in working condition...
Omega 4 is for the octa core so thats why your phone bricked. If you can grt into download mode odin the stock files. If you can get into recovery try flashing a rom made for the phone. Dont freak out just read read read and youll be fine.

your bricked, im pretty sure flashing stock wont help you (hasnt from my past experience) but doesnt hurt to give it a try.
i dont think will just give you another one, even though its in the two week window, because its your fault and not the result of hardware failure. the age old "oh i updated and not it wont turn on" probably wont wort because there are little to none reports of that happening. plus (and this is me assuming, correct me if im wrong) but when in download mode it probably shows custom status, which auto voids any warranty. but once again, doesnt hurt to try.

Yeah go ahead and root again just be careful with the rom you flash make sure its for m919. I stayed with stock because no rom has the options that came with the phone such as motions and gestures and the camera.

I just did the motochopper method and as I am reading now about the possibility of loosing your root access by future OTAs so am planning to flash that file that keeps your root safe even from future updates "SetUID Restriction" I will prolly keep my basic rom and wait for something better in future.
Thanks

would you suggest me instal the CM? I am debating over here and for sure I will make a good use with the space that can free if I do... hint I have a 64gb msd installed on the phone
the motochopper root didn't go through by the way so I used odin and patched twrp plus did the SetUID restriction thing.
thnx

Well if you want to flash CyanogenMod, make sure its for the m919. I'm kinda lost though, did you still want all the features that Touchwiz has like air gesture, motions etc? Or you don't care for those?

am not really decided about that, does it really matter? all i care about is the blazing speed, low battery consumption and for sure the freedom of moving all the apps to the extSD ... I think all these new features are gimmick and it may take another generation for it to get the best of it. I picked S4 over the HTC one just because the 1080p feature and the funny thing is that I missed on there is no HDMI port on this phone! lol no biggie
tell me more about the touchwiz kernel, is it worth it? I don't see many CRs out there at the moment

Well right now I don't think CM is as stable compared to a TW ROM. FYI there are a lot or ROMS as of now. You have Wicked, Infamous, Darth Stalker, Deathstar. There is also faux and ktoonez kernal available for TW. As for the extsd, you will need to format the card to fat32 for the phone to read it properly.
