Hey hey hey yuyuyuyu1 why not thank cricketAC he gave you the same answer as LoopDogg... that aint right! His answer is 100% correct only thing he did not do is hold your hand with a link. No disrespect to LoopDogg at all.
A little research and reading and in any recovery thread would of given you the answer and too me its so much more gratifying when you figure stuff out for yourself and honestly going from one recovery to another is as simple if not simpler than flashing a rom. Remember though you can not restore from another recovery...

I'm planning to replace CWR with TWRP and ROM Manager with GooManager. After I install GooManager and TWRP, will I need to manually delete the backups made by CWR (blobs etc.)?

Yes, if you want space on your internal storage (or wherever you're storing them). Better off deleting them because they're not compatible anyways.
Just delete the clockwork folder in your internal storage or SD card.

So is Twrp actually the better recovery to use as apposed to cwm?

I've personally found TWRP to be more consistent than CWM's touch interface... (use it on ~ 3 devices a this point... T989, T999, and hp touchpad..)
Works pretty well...

It's all up to preference honestly. I haven't had any issues with all the available recoveries but I prefer CWM 5.0.2.7 because of the Darkside scripts. (They were made specifically for CWM 5.0.2.7, but also work with TWRP last time I checked.) Never had an issue with the recovery and all the ROMs I've flashed have all worked perfectly well.

Good advice re: deleting CWM
I tried to flash a CWM recovery (not realizing it was a CWM recovery) with TWRP, and it was a mess.
I agree re: figuring it out for yourself. (I de-bricked my KF2 yesterday, thanks to a Xubuntu - Adb tutorial.)
You guys are lifesavers for Noobs like me.

[Q] clockwork mod recovery to amonRa recovery??

I clockwork mod recovery on my phone now. I have heard amon Ra works better. Is it possible to replace clockwork with amon? How would I go about doing this and is it worth it. Any help would be appreciated. I am still new at this.

FYI questions should go in the questions forum, development are for developers. If you have a question on the developers thread, post in there.
As for AmonRA vs Clockwork Mod. They are about the same. I have heard people have issues with ClockworkMod not wiping the dalvik/cache completely but I have heard that it does from other people.
One advantage of Clockwork Mod is you can use extra Rom Manager functions.

This shouldn't be in Dev, but I will answer this anyway. Easiest way to do this is via ROM Manager. Download it from the Market and when you go into the app, go to the bottom and it will say "Flash Alternate Recovery" (which would be Amon_RA) and you're set.
Sorry for posting in wrong spot. I didnt know. Thanks for the answers. That don't sound too hard. Thanks again.

Do after 1 flashes them amon from bottom of rom manager.. Can 1 reflash to clockwork by clicking all clockwork recoverys and clicking the latest (without occurring any odd quirks or back up issues?)

I would first try it the Rom Manager way. Its the easiest way but for some reason mine doesnt take. If yours doesnt then do the flash_recovery method through ADB.

Maybe you need to enable Advanced Mode in the settings first? Hopefully, that isn't a paid feature.
For the EVO, I think the only option that's a premium feature is flashing the CM nightlies. Everything else should be accessable after enabling advanced mode in settings.
The amon recovery image has to be on the root of your sdcard for rom manager to find it. I have flashed back and forth through rom manager and i dont recall if i have advanced settings enabled. I use amon to wipe stuff and clockwork to flash. I do this because amon does not do file browsing but clockwork does.
You can definitely flash back and forth. And Rom Manager can download either recoveries before flashing. That's how I updated to the current amonRa. But you have to have Clockwork flashed in order to fully use Rom Manager.
Thanks I flashed to AR with the paid version of ROM Manager and it only too a minute. Thanks for the advice because I was wondering this question also.

!!!!!!******Please Read Before You Flash Another Rom******!!!!!! Cw 3.0.0.6

Over the last few weeks many of you have had problems with boot looping roms and not being able to restore a nandroid. 9 times out of 10 the problem comes down to being cw 3.0.0.5.
Our Q & A forum has been flooded with questions about problems that could have been avoided if people would simply take a few minuets to update their recovery. This is NOT something that is mandatory, but please save yourself as well as the people that take the time to fix everyones problems a headache! There are two simple ways to flash the recovery listed below. Thank you all for adhering to this request, it will be appreciated!
Option94, Zinx and Koush have taken the time out of their lives to put this new recovery together for all of us. So please remember to thank them!
I have attached a copy of the recovery to this thread. For those of you who have the eng SPL (0.85.2007) place the file in your AndroidSDK\tools\ folder and the run this script from fastboot
Fastboot flash recovery c:\AndroidSDK\tools\recovery.img
If you don't have the eng spl or if you are unfamiliar with ADB you can use TrueBlue_Drew meathod below.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=944681
You can also try flashing this version from your recovery.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=555930&d=1301465416
You can find the original cw 3.0.0.6 thread from option94 below
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=952433
mod maybe u could sticky this for a few weeks
You're right that this gets asked a lot. It should be stickied!
You might want to add that you must have the engineering SPL (0.85.2007) to use the fastboot method. I can imagine people trying that and not being able to, and not knowing why.
There's already a similar sticky in the Q&A section.
Yep, thanks.
Rom manager will only flash version 3.0.0.5. This is version 3.0.0.6. This is still the needed recovery for the 2 different file systems.
Ok. Perhaps we do still need this. Maybe I haven't flashed enough ext3 ROMs...lol
nice of you to post this even tho 3.0.0.6 has been out for awhile now. been using for couple months

Yeah it has, and that's the whole point. Despite 3.0.0.6 being out for so long, people still aren't using it and have no idea why their ROM won't boot.
yeah, but its THEIR fault for not researching and reading thru the forum

I agree! However, THEM not researching leads to the same question being asked over and over, which means WE end up answering it over and over. So it's to everyone's benefit to be informed, and hopefully threads like this will help in that matter.
totally agree
I may have a better solution. Need to see if I can get a hold of koush though.
I wonder why ROM Manager doesn't have it yet. (I've been circumventing ROM Manager anyway and just flashing through fastboot.)

Because 3.0.0.6 was not created by Koush and is therefore not an "official" build of CWM. It was created by option94 and distributed on XDA.

HELP!!
I tried to flash the overclocked kernel and now Im stuck in a bootloop and can't load recovery or be recognized in fastboot usb. It seems like I may have bricked my phone any suggestions. PLEASE HELP
update - I fixed it lol almost thought my dinc 2 was a brick
I may be in the same situation and would like to know how you solved your problem.
I rooted successfully and was running the Gingersense rom with the stock kernel. I wanted to OC a kernel so I downloaded one that I think was intended to run with MIUI. I made a backup so I figured if the kernel didn't work I could always go back.
After installing the new kernel I went into a boot loop. I pulled the battery, got into recovery and tried to restore a backup, but now I freeze on the HTC screen. I've tried three different backups and none of them work -- all freeze on the HTC screen.
I am becoming desperate. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Have you tried wiping everything (including /system under "mounts and storage") before restoring the backup? Or tried flashing a different rom? Probably happened because the kernels for AOSP roms and sense roms aren't interchangeable. I would think that restoring a backup would rewrite the boot partition though, which should fix it..
I wiped everything (did data wipe/factory resets as well as wiping everything individually, several times) and could never get any of my backups to work.
I finally copied CM7.1 beta onto the SD card and flashed that (after first having to scrounge to find a card reader and computer that would read an SDHC card) and that worked.
I tried restoring one of my previous backups over CM7.1 (with and without wiping) and went back to freezing on the HTC screen again on each one of them. Don't understand that, since everything was working fine when those backups were made.
Anyway, now I'm using CM7.1 and have a working phone again.
Thanks for your work on this. Much appreciated for helping to realize my dream of a fully-rooted Inc2.
/bow
Ihave the same issues with backup not restoring and getting the white screen. Might need a new SD card.

[Q] Installing Clockworkmod Recovery Help!!!

I picked up a GSII from Sprint yesterday so of course the first thing I'm going to do is root it. I've got root access with Superuser installed but I can't seem to install a custom recovery. I've been looking everywhere for a file to install via Odin 1.85 but it seems EVERY download link I've found has been broken! I'm on EL29 (White GSII) and am extremely frustrated that I can't figure this out. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Great, I now have CWM recovery and rogue recovery, but no matter which one I use when I try to da a backup (the reasaon I needed recovery) I gat an "can't mount backup path" message and goes back to menu..
Ok new development, I did a backup from CWM to internal sdcard and that works,, so rogue backup won't work,,
Rogue should work to backup to external SD card; it's where it puts it by default unless you choose to mount the internal card - I did it dozens and dozens of times on GB. Saves the file to a folder called sdcard or something. Try again with out any extra steps of mounting or anything.:
In recovery choose backup, then advanced backup toggle down to backup with all saying yes. [Also you might want to make sure that the first time you go into recovery that you press the volume up and down buttons a few times all the way through to make sure you enable the power button/select. See Qbking77's videos for descriptions of that too.]

N1 CM Version - Root/O-Click issues

Hey there. Recently ordered myself an N1. Love it. got the CM Edition as I was going to use CM anyway, but a couple of issues have arisen.
Firstly, O-Click doesn't seem to work with CM, is that known and is there a fix?
And secondly, I have purchased a few root apps on the play store, but I can't seem to root the N1 with the APK Exploit that was posted here. Is there any known way to root the device?
Also, is it safe to flash CM11 on the CM recovery?
Cheers for any help!

Are you talking about PhilZ?
I haven't tried it, and I doubt that I will. I know that TWRP runs very well on just about everything that I've thrown at it with the N1 so far. If you try that recovery out, please post your findings in that thread so others know what to expect.

No, i don't mean PhilZ. I ordered the CM limited Edition version of the N1, which came with a CyanogenMod recovery rather than Oppo's recovery. (Use volume buttons to navigate) It's not a touch recovery. Which is the main reason I wish to install TWRP, but I understand you need to root for that?
As for the o-click, is there any fix? Yes CM may have fixed it but not on the OTA update :/
Edit: I accidentally selected 'Reboot into Bootloader' rather than the recovery, and now my device is stuck on the "###fastboot..." screen. (Replace ### with 3 Chinese letters that I don't know ) I have no idea what to do. No buttons seem to do anything. :/
Edit2: Fixed by holding VolUp + Power
You can fastboot flash twrp, then flash supersu.zip for root. If it still doesn't work you need to go into cm settings and turn off the cm root preference so it accepts the supersu app

I tried flashing supersu with the CM recovery but it failed to flash. It's it due to the recovery or something else? Also, is there a tutorial of how to flash with fast boot somewhere? Cheers for the help guys! Really appreciate it!
