Are you saying that CM already does this, or they will incorporate this feature? To my knowledge this is a brand new feature introduced with this modded kernel.
Though I use a N1 which has a trackball, this would still be pretty sweet.
I'm assuming this feature is very much possible, but it would be a battery hog since the sensors would have to be on at all times versus only coming on once you wake the phone with the power button.

Yeh I can see where the battery life comes into play.
But hey it could be an option, say for someone who's power button is broken (N1 users know what I mean by this).

I was an N1 user so I know exactly what you mean. The other option that Team Kang offers is VOLUME ROCKER wake. You can use the Volume Rockers to wake the phone.

Hi all,
I am using CM-KangBang V3.0 for my one V. I like this rom on this rom. And on this rom i can slide 3 or 2 induction button to lock, unlock screen. But i don't know how this feature called. I tried orther rom, but with them, i can't do that. Can someone tell me how this feature called? Is there a app with this feature. Thanks!
It is a feature of the kernel, its called sweep2wake.there are plenty of apps that can lock/unlock the phone without using the power button. eg,smart screen on which unlocks/ locks with a sweep over the proximity sensor.

Hi guys!
I am missing a feature I used to have on my old Galaxy I9000: It is called "touchwake" and allows the screen to be switched on, if it gets touched.
Very handy feature and I think TWRP already has it (maybe it's a sensor thing, though). Has anybody an idea? Is this a kernel feature?

yes it is a kernel feature. GM used to add it to siyah all the time....bad luck for us he's not interested in a note 2 :/
Yeah but that would mean a wakelock won't it?

i've seen great versions of it...it does mean a wakelock for sure but in most cases was developped with a 10 second timer...10 seconds after the screen is of it would stop working reducing battery drain
Then how is it helpful?

It's an awesome feature, really. That would be even better than "quick glance" which keeps me actually on stock-based ROMs... I think I will ask in the Perseus kernel thread

You don't have to reach for the power/home button when your screen times out (and this happens to me quite often if I'm reading something)

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the stock standard feature cater for that (SmartStay)?
Monitors your eyes and prevents the screen from switching off if you are looking at it.
Why dont you just download screen on toggler from the play store. That way, you can just quickly pull the menu down, press a button and your screen will never time out. Press it again and it switches back to your original time out setting.
Comes in handy when its too dark for smart stay to work.

There is a confusion on this function. This kind of feature allow you to turn on the screen without pressing any physical button. You can take the phone out from your pocket and swipe or touch the screen and the device will wake up.

Obvious solution: increase your time-out setting.
I have it at 2 min (hate the absurdly short time-out many people seem to use) and it never times out when I am reading.
Plus, as already mentioned, if for whatever reason that I can't imagine you want to keep a short time-out setting, you can always use SmartStay which works surprisingly well and can be very easily and quickly turned on and off with its toggle in the notification shade.
Guys, this isn't about SmartStay or the likes. I am already using it, also QuickGlance. TouchWake means turning ON the display by merely touching it (2 seconds for example). I was asking for this feature in the Perseus kernel thread, if you like the idea, just vote up my request.
PS: I also tried "proximity screen off" from playstore. It's nice but still not what I was looking for. A fast double tap for screen on would be nice for example.

I fell in love with this feature seeing it on a BB10 device (and that's just about the ONLY thing that I like about the BB10 BTW :laugh.
It would be awesome and would enable us to get rid of the physical home button (which wastes space and is a durability worry but it's still needed to wake the phone up as it's way more comfortable to use than the power button).
As I've seen on your comments you really don't know what it is.

DerTeufel ( the guy working on dual boot ) just released a kernel with touchwake.... here
Reminds me of MeeGo. This would be an awesome feature, given that the physical buttons don't seem to last well over time...
Yeah! Big thanks to DerTeufel! Good job for what I can say so far. Will test some more days
Has anyone checked out this app?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...edium=organic&utm_term=experience+pro+android
Its called eXperience pro and it's supposed to give stock users a lot of customization that can only be achieved by flashing another kernel.

Glad to see this app getting some attention. Its seriously good, means that you can over clock phone regardless of kernel.
Personally, my favourite is the music controls tweak, the only reason I would have wanted to move away from stock

So, does the touch wake works good? Its only touch not swipe right? What if it's in your pockets, it doesn't wake?

Touchwake on calls
Potential buyer here just for the touchwake feature, quick question for anyone that uses it.
Does it work when on a call (speakerphone or bluetooth)? My issue is that I use the Power button to end call feature and when I am on speakerphone or bluetooth if the screen goes to sleep I can no longer access my phone.
The touch wake module seems to give me massive battery drain by holding a wake lock, irrespective of whether I have wake lock on. Just a warning.

I actually bought it to test it out. It does wake the screen when on a call (YAY!) but it also hangs up the call as if I pressed the power button anyway (NAY )
Oh well.
I was hoping to find the ask any question without folks laughing but here goes.
I am wondering if there is a tap screen to wake setting, or kernel that will make this possible on the sgh-i747. My reason for asking is that I remember there being a box for tap to wake back when I had my nexus 7. It was running a clean rom and the elemental X kernel. So, I figure this is probably a kernel setting. Now if I let TWPR sit idle for a bit and the screen goes black, it does wake after tapping so I know the S3 is capable of this.
point me in the right direction if you can please.
this is for 4.4 that I am wondering.
thank you
I haven't messed with it much but Tap Tap App does basically this but with the proximity sensor instead of the screen

ill give it a shot once I set up quantum v3.21
and I am honored to issue you your first thanks!!
I only looked at ROMs for the longest time on here and never ventured much into the question threads until now. I have a lot of free time at work and enjoy a good search when I have the chance so I hope to become a lot more involved now to help out when I can.
Tap to wake isn't something I had thought about until I saw this and its a very interesting idea so i just did a quick search. I'll probably end up looking around tomorrow for more options if I get bored at work.
