Certain apps won't install - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

I notice that lately I can't install some apps...AT ALL.
I can copy them to the sysem/apps folder. It's strange that Rom Toolkit can't restore them, but even redownloading them gives an error. I've had this with a few ROMs, including Stock 4.1.1, the multiwindow release.
I'm just seeing if anyone else has this issue, and if anyone has solved it without having to copy to the system/apps folder.
So far the list is:
Amazon Appstore
Yahoo Mail

Re-installing an ADB removed System App

I already Searched, MY ANSWER is not there.
I'm running Caulkin's 1.4, I removed sense (via his .zip).
After everything was up and running I opened ADB and removed a couple applications I didn't want, such as friendstream and rss.
One of the items removed was Mail.apk because I have always used K9 mail instead. I remove the same list of apps every time I install a Rom, never had a problem.
that is until today. For personal reasons I need to use the stock mail app instead of K9, however I cannot figure out, or find a way here to make it install.
If I copy the system apk... Mail.apk to my sd card and try to install, it gives me final message "Could not be installed".
Can anyone help me with some guidance of how I can do this? Or is it possible?
Disregard, Got it!

[Solved] Any way to access an apk file immediately after flashing?

I'm not sure if this is possible as ICS has no built in file manager, but is there anywhere I can put an apk file that it would be accessible without one? Specifically I want to be able to open an apk to install a file manager as the first thing I do after flashing a rom, to avoid needing to go through the market.
I thought maybe I could leave it in sdcard/download but it seems like the downloads program is blind to anything in that folder that wasn't officially "downloaded". (I suppose I could upload one to my dropbox and download it via the browser, if there are no viable options). Also made a few stabs at getting the gallery program to show one but it seems to filter out anything that's not a picture or video.
Any ideas for places to stick an apk and get one of the stock programs to let me open it?
maybe email it to yourself?
but you would have to log into the email app to do that
but there isnt really anyway to access the file without a file explorer
Open your favourite rom zip, add your apk to /system/app, save the zip, push that zip to the phone, flash.

Yeah in general I'm trying to cut out the step of signing into anything and just restoring my apps from a backup before I need to cancel automatic restore functions (which I do want on and running once I do my own initial run of things).

I'm guessing this comes with the consequence of raising any apk added in this manner to system app level? Not that I distrust the apps I'd have in mind for this to do anything malicious themselves, but is there any danger of opening security holes by elevating apps not designed to be system apps?
What I've done many times is just enabling Air Plane as soon as I can after flashing a ROM. That's way I can install any apk I want.
Hope it helps.

Hmm but then what is your method for getting to that apk? If you do it over wifi that seems to defeat the point, no?
Personally I've found that it works just fine to uncheck the boxes for recovery syncing during the setup process, and then just re-enabling them later in settings. (Alternately, not signing into my google account at all until I've performed a backup). That way even if I end up signing into the market to download a recovery app, it doesn't automatically try to re-download everything else on its own.
I'm starting to think that my dropbox solution will be the cleanest, as it'll be a simple step of opening the browser and downloading a single apk every time at the same link.
I bet that the inclusion of a basic file explorer will be one of those headline items in a future android release. A nice basic functionality that the bloggers can rehash to death before anything actually hits.
Download the file manager apk over wifi and install the APK via download manager.
I do it all the time with Chinese android tablets with no market access.
Or Bluetooth it from another device.
Or just use the market

Transfer by USB from my laptop.
Is there a way to do that in which the device will launch the apk you move over? When I copy files over usb, it only ever puts them into whatever directory, and I need a file explorer to interact with them on the phone. And then I'm back to square one, as far as this particular task is concerned (once things are up and running I just use the LAN option in ES file explorer and it's as convenient as could be).
you have the apk in your computer right?
connect the phone to pc, and use adb to install
'adb install <apk_file_name.apk>'
Ah. I haven't used adb since I first unlocked/rooted a few months ago. Guess it probably pays to be a little familiar with those tools; they don't even occur to me when problem solving these days.

mark thread as solved then, if that solved it
Well a completely in-phone solution would still be nice, but I guess if there were any of those they'd have come up by now.
I'll probably use abd if I'm actively working at my computer and a dropbox download otherwise.

[Q] whatsapp picture (and Picasa)

So I recently got my GNex, and I've rooted it and put a new ROM on it (AOKP).
Everything runs smoothly, except for this:
when I try and send a picture to whatsapp messenger through the gallery (or directly within the app) i get an error that says "preview of image failed, please try again"
I get an error when I try and upload a picture to picasa as well (though I don't care so much about that one, as I don't use picasa as often as I do whatsapp).
I can share a picture from the gallery via sms without a problem (I use handcent, is there a better one for ICS?) so I don't think it's the gallery so much..
I'm using the GApps that comes within AOKP from ROM Manager (it's Milestone 4).
Any thoughts?
Thanks
Had this happen to me too. It was a "corrupt" folder or something like that, no idea what caused it. Try deleting the whatsapp folder on your sd card. If you can't delete the folder, you have the same problem. I was only able to delete the folder in the recovery via adb. But after deleting the folder everything went back to normal.

I tried deleting the folder, I could do that with no problem. I uninstalled Whatsapp, then deleted the folder, reinstalled it. Still have the same problem...it's weird.

[Q] Recent-onset problems with SMS/MMS on Galaxy Nexus

Hi all -
I'm running Winner's pre-CM9 ROM (now on latest build) with Franco's milestone 2 kernel. The latest builds of the ROM are 4.0.4-based.
I had no problems on the previous versions, which were 4.0.3-based. A few days after upgrading to the 4.0.4-based versions (yes, I did do a full data/cache wipe first) and the 4.0.4 versions of the Google apps, someone tried to send me an MMS message. I have it set to auto-retrieve, but in this case it didn't. Tried to manually download it, and it failed. This has happened since with messages from other people from different carriers. If I try to SEND a pic via MMS, the app (stock Messaging app) just crashes. I can still receive regular text messages, but trying to delete some message threads causes the app to crash; some delete OK.
I'm assuming that I'm having problems with the database (/data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/mmssms.db). I tried flipping the permission bits with Root Explorer, but that didn't change anything. Short of deleting and somehow recreating it (don't know if just "touching" the file will work) and losing all the data - is there anything else I can do to solve this?
Thanks!
Everything else is working fine.
Finally just deleted the database file (actually, just renamed and moved it) and it's working again, though I "lost" about 400K of data...the database file was somehow corrupted.

Amazon download failed running Jellybean

Anyone having an issue with being able to download from the Amazon App Store. I have tried several different JB 4.1.1 ROMs and have the same issue with all. When trying to download an app from AMazon App store, the download fails. I also get download failures when trying to download a book from Audible which Amazon owns.
It is definitely a permission issue. I believe it from recovering my old data after flashing. It also affects Pocket Casts. I have tried using ClockworkMod and ROM Manger to fix the permissions. I have also uninstalled and re-installed the apps but still the downloads fail. Suggestions or ways to fixed the permissions?
Since the sdcard is virtual and is located under data/media, I uninstalled the apps and delete all information under data/media referring to the apps. reinstalled and everything is working.

I am running BAMF Paradigm and have the same problem. I linked my nexus to the PC with debugging activated. Found and deleted all three Amazon Files (Android/Data/com.amazon.venezia; Download/Amazon_Appstore-rlease.apk; mnt/sdcard/download/Amazon_Appstore-release.apk). Reinstalled app and the same thing (toggle between Download queued and download starting until finally says download failed)
I have also tried deleting all Amazon files and Rebooting, but then the Android/Data/com.amazon.venezia is back on my phone and the same cycle is repeated after I download and install the amazon appstore and try to download an app. Every other app is running great. Appreciate your suggestions.
Fixed Permissions in Recovery...Working Now.
