My Note II keeps remounting SD Card - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
Sometimes when I turn on the screen I notice the SD Card symbol is "ON" in the notification bar. Is it because my Note II keeps remounting the SD Card and thus rescanning the SD Card?
Why does it keep doing this?
I have my songs all stored on the SD Card and because it keeps remounting it, the songs do not stay in the playlist!
How do I keep the SD Card permanently mounted?
My Note II is running stock ROM.

Nope... plugged and unplugged by SD Card a number of times and still the SD card gets rescanned.
Can't keep my songs on SD Card in my playlists.
Does any one else experience this at all? Am I the only one experiencing this?

I have the same issue. Till now, not able to find a solution. Planning to send it back for warranty claim!

This is a warning that your sd card may soon be destroyed. It afflicts s3 and note 2. just backup your data. For more info search the thread- "s3 the sd card destroyer"

I had a 32gig scandisk class 10 and it kept re mounting every so often... also sometimes my pictures wouldn't show up in gallery. Tonight I bought a Samsung 32 gig class 6 and all is well.
I believe it was the stupid scandisk that didn't want work properly. Hope this helps!!!

Had the same problem, my supplier gave me a new card, problem solved

the same with a 32gb sandisk class10, after ~2 moths of use without a problem.
Amazon gave me back the money and my old 4gb card is working fine.

I had encountered the same issue with my n7000 and my s3. Your SD card is on the way out. Try to format it first but it that doesn't work your best course of action is to replace.

Guess what? My 32GB Class 4 SanDisk went all flaky a couple of days ago. I got an error message saying that the SD cannot be read and to reformat it.
Absolutely not! All my new pictures and songs are all being stored on the SD card!
I rebooted my phone and it could read the ca4d again but it's no longer stable.
Sigh
Why do we have this problem with the Note II?
Sent from my GT-N7105 using xda app-developers app

The memory cards have been a problem.
It was sexy for a couple of weeks but when I was to go for a holiday, it messed up bad.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app

I've experienced the same issue once on my Note 2 with a Sandisk 32Gb card.

My 32GB class 4 Sandisk microSD card that I thought was working well finally died. I tried reformatting it and it worked for a little while more but finally died and could not even be reformated.
What can we do about the Note II propensity to kill microSD cards?
Sent from my GT-N7105 using xda app-developers app

Damn, I really hope it's not the Note 2 that's killing cards. I just sent back my 64gb SanDisk card which died after about 4 months of use. So while I'm waiting for a replacement, I have a 32gb cards in the way.
In over ten years of using removable flash storage I've never had a card die in me and I've had at least 15 different CF, SD and micro sd cards. Why does this "high end" sandisk card have so many issues on modern devices?
Sent from my Galaxy Note 2 using Tapatalk 2

My 8gb class 4 Kingston card also died while being used on my Note 2. Was previously using the same card on s2 and s3 too. I'm hoping with all these reported cases of sd cards dying, correlation doesn't equal causation! I'll nevertheless get a Samsung sd card for replacement. Hoping samsung cards should theoretically work better on samsung phones. Haha

I have got same problem on my 32 GB class 10 memory card and got it replaced.though I got a brand new sd card but still confused o using it.... wheyher I shuld use it or get it change with samsung 32gb class.any advice would be great

Mediascanner wakelocks driving me nuts

Anytime an SD card is inserted into the phone, I start getting Mediascanner partial wakelocks that are hurting battery life. If I eject the SD card, time awake = screen-on time almost perfectly. I deleted all the files from the card and reformatted and still get the same scanner wakelocks. Seems like this has to be an error in the OS? Card is a 32gb Sandisk Ultra.
I had this issue. Eventually I found out it was a corrupt file. So I took everything off, formatted and started from scratch.

As I mentioned above, wakelocks continued when only a blank newly formatted sd card was inserted into the phone.

Do you have another sd card lying around to try and see if it your sd card?
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda premium
I am testing it now with a blank reformatted 16G Samsung SD card I had from my Epic 4G.
Interesting. So far the problem does not seem to be occurring with the Samsung SD card (at least with no files on it). I will monitor it for a while today and add a few files to see what happens.
I loaded a couple of movies to the 16G Samsung card and still no problem.
For some reason, the phone does not like the 32G Sandisk Ultra.

are both cards formatted to the same file system?
The samsung is fat32. I tried the Sandisk on both fat32 and efat with the same result. The phone has some issue with the sandisk.

Glad you found the issue. Stinks the issue was with the card.

From doing some more searching, it seems like others might be3 having issues with the Sandisk 32g as well.

Battery life is much better now that phone is sleeping again.
Sent from my Galaxy Note 2 using Tapatalk.
There is an app in the playstore that runns a script that disables the media scan after the first one It is called media rescan root
Since the issue seems to be the card, I wilo just stick with the samsung card for now. Thanks thought.

Why you are buying such crap like 'Patriots' cards?
Buy SanDisk cards.
I have 32GB SanDisk micro SDHC ultra card and have no problem at all.

+1 SanDisk ultra disk. ..32 gb... not even a flicker of issue
scribbled from my note 2 (N7100)
backup all data from memory card via previous phone.
then format it twice.
Thanks guy for the advice, 32GB san disk is what I bought

Try to leave the card in the phone and use a cable instead. The more you handle the card the greater the risk of ruining it. It's not Note2 specific... the same goes for all phones.

Class 10 sd card unexpectedly removed error

I have been getting an error saying sd card unexpectedly has been removed and it only started after the ota installed?? Any ideas? Dont really wanna factory reset but I have tried alot of things and it still comes back ??? And its 32g fyi
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 2
Try moving everything to a pc, reformat, and move everything back. Card may be going bad. Update could be a coincidence.
Brand new card actually tried two new cards and same issue but class 4 worked fine? I dont knkw what is going on darn it ive had so many phones and never had this issue? I googled it and looks like t mobile nkte 2 users and gs3 users have same issue ??
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 2
That's a strange one. Is the class 4 formatted differently than the 10's?
I actually just pop them in my phone when I get them but im going home at lunch and am going to reformat this 32gig one ! Any suggestions?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 2
Tried reformatting many times still same error?? Maybe factory reset?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 2
Any new apps that could be causing it? A factory reset's a good idea if you don't mind setting everything back up again. You could also try restoring a backup of another ROM or stock if you have one. See if the problem follows.
Yea when I get home I will factory reset and see samsung told me to clean the sd slot out with compressed air

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 2
This happened to me today on a Verizon Note 2. Started giving me the "unexpectedly removed..." message two days ago. My card tonight was all of a sudden wiped & not recognizable in the phone & pc. I had it in a GS3 before. Only had the Note 2 for 3 days. The sd card is only 35 days old.
Apparently this is affecting other carriers http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2031009
Yea I know thank god you said something !!! These cards I have are like two weeks old and work fine in gs3 and galaxy note one? Im thinking software?

I am having similar issues with my new class 10 32gb Sandisk microSD card.
I also formated the card again, but that didn't help. My Note 2 was fine before the OTA update, but it could be coincidence.

Mine came with 4.1.1.
I unlocked, rooted, & installed CleanROM the second day I had it. I think I got the first message before I unlocked it. Can't remember. My current version is 4.1.2, But I think it is all carriers & versions.

Mine is also a Class 10 Sandisk. I put my other class 10 from my TF300T in the GN2 when I got home tonight. So far so good. I am taking the microSD back to Costco tomorrow. Hopefully they will just swap it. Luckily I had everything important backed up.

I had similar issues with a PNY 32GB Class 10 card. The card was going offline everyday. I ended up exchanging the card for a new Sandisk Ultra 32GB Class 10 card, and since then, no issues. This was mid November when I first got the Note 2. We'll see how long the Sandisk lasts, and if it fails, maybe I'll get the Samsung micro SD card next.

Does anybody has the same experience with the Sandisk 32gb Class10 UHS1 unexpectedly unmounts by itself on our Galaxy Note2?
I had this memory card 4 mnths ago.. just days ago it starts to unmount by itself and phone keeps scanning which results to fast battery drain.
I first notice the battery drainibg faster until I saw in the battery usage graph that media scanning is juicing more than the screen. And that leads to the conclusion that my sd card unexpectedly unmounts by itself.
What will be the problem.. is it my phone or the card.. I inserted the card to my friend's galaxy s advance for a day and not a problem found.
Please help
