I've been flashing my HTC ONE V for 2 weeks, Ive flash rom, It worked well, I changed name on device in root explorer so I could use apps not available for htc (changed it for samsung galaxy s) and it worked, today I've tried to change rom and it wont start, I dont know if that device name change is important in that case but Ive tried everything, ive installed different roms, different boot.img, recovery, factory reset, Ive also tried to run RUU.exe and come back to stock but theres error after few minutes. That just drives me crazy, im doing it for 4 hours and its only worse. And I cant even turn that phone off. Anyone know how to help me, please. Its 4a.m., im tired, if I can make that phone work, I'll just quit messing with soft but please, need help.
Can you be more specific...?? Like on which rom and kernel you were and which rom you switched...???and error you got...??

Oh, I forgot that, damn. I want to get back to stock build.prop. I have no errors, just theres no boot.img that works for me after changing product model etc. on build.prop. It shows htc logo and nothing happens.
Don't really get what's not working. If it just a build.prop edit that makes all this mess; why don't you just make a full wipe (data/system/cache) and reinstall the same ROM that is working for you before ?

Did it, still dont works. Gave me an error (on pc while installing) that its wrong version (when I was editing build.prop I saw brand : htc_asia_hk, since im from europe - what does it mean?) I tried this one
RUU_PRIMO_U_ICS_40A_HTC_Europe_2.22.401.1_Radio_20.76.30.0835U_3831.19.00.120_release_273801_signed
and doesnt work
You need to find CID for your device then only you can find the correct RUU.
Your device still can be in bootloader, right ?
In fastboot type this command: fastboot getvar cid
Example:
Code:
D:\HTC\fastboot>fastboot getvar cid
cid: HTC__044
finished. total time: 0.001s

It means that you have a branded One V. The above RUU is not for your device.
Not so sure whether there is one for your device.
Gotta go now... will check later when I'm home say about three hours.
Yea, I know
but I'd like to know - if there's any similiar reason to go back to stock rom (I dont want warranty, just want it to works fine) else than ruu?

Why don't you try to do really full wipe (again) and start with a Sense ROM as Sense ROM is easier to flash (I said this as I don't have experience flashing a CM based ROM) which is a straight forward.
1. Put your device in fastboot mode, flash the boot.img that comes with the ROM or any custom boot.img mentioned on OP of the ROM.
2. Reboot to recovery and make a full wipe/full format (data/system/cache).
3. Mount usb storage and put the ROM.zip on sdcard.
4. Install the ROM.zip
5. Reboot and see how it goes.

Why doesn't any of the custom kernels work with S-on WFS a510e GSM hboot 1.09.099? It is already htcdev unlocked and CWM installed, and custom rom installed and rooted. All stock kernels are working, but the others doesn't boot, stuck at white htc screen.
I flashed CWM and it stays, it doesnt disappear on my phone. And I can always flash anything, i said i flashed custom rom, its flashed and i use it, but modified kernel inside of it doesnt boot and work, and if i flash stock kernel over it, it boots and works flawlessly. I saw so many complaints like this but i've never seen any solution to it, i searched too much but i could find nothing about it. If someone really understood the problem, any help is needed immediately.
You need to unlock the phone, try reading some posts about unlocking and rooting, then you can progress with installing custom roms.

Try reading this, it was posted in another thread in this section of the WFS part of the forum, I have pasted the relevant post further down, here is the link so that you can read the rest for yourself and find the answers to your questions;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1651536
" I have a S-ON, Unlocked Bootloader just like you. There are no way to root after u unlocked bootloader (because u need to update to lastest Hboot in order to UBL). I'd tried all tools i can find on xda and NONE of them can be use to root. There also don't have any clear guide for S-ON with UBL show how to install custom rom and get root.
But after few days digging up the forum, i'd managed to install custom rom + root. I share with you:
After your phone bootloader unlocked via HTCdev, your phone sure will have either HBOOT-1.08.0099 or HBOOT-1.09.0099. You'll need a ClockworkMod recovery image on your computer to install rom + root. And you'll need a working Android SDK with Fastboot to do get ClockworkMod working on ur S-ON phone.
OK let's say now you have fastboot folder alr, and know how to use it.
1. Download lastest clockwork mod .img here: http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager
2. put the file .img just downloaded to the fastboot folder.
3. Turn off phone, then hold volume down + power ---> wait the menu searching for the zip file (of course we ignore this) then press Power again to go to fastboot menu.
4. connect phone to laptop via usb cable.
5. Open fastboot folder, right click choose open command windows here.
5a. If you are on HBOOT-1.08.0099:
Copy this and right click to the command windows, paste then enter, ur phone will automatic restart to CWM menu:
fastboot -c "mtdparts=msm_nand:[email protected](misc),[email protected](recovery),[email protected](boot),[email protected](system),[email protected](cache),[email protected](userdata),[email protected](devlog),[email protected](hboot)" boot recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.8-marvel.img
5b. If you are on HBOOT-1.09.0099:
Copy this and right click to the command windows, paste then enter, ur phone will automatic restart to CWM menu:
fastboot -c "mtdparts=msm_nand:[email protected](misc),[email protected](recovery),[email protected](boot),[email protected](system),[email protected](cache),[email protected](userdata),[email protected](devlog),[email protected](hboot)" boot recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.8-marvel.img
Ok men, now u just download any rom u like, put it to ur memory card and flash rom like normal.
Remember that, everytime u flash new rom, u need to repeat the whole process from step 3 to step 5.

Taco, I always clean all the caches before flashing any rom.
And aef, thanks for your efforts my friend but this is not the answer for my problem I think, cause i flashed CWM and it stays, it doesnt disappear on my phone. could it be to do with overclocking?
i know that some phones are less able to handle overclocking than others, so maybe anything over the standard 600Mhz which stock kernels use is causing the phone to freeze up?
unusual to not even get past white htc with this though :s
you could try custom kernel and maybe change some of the startup parameters so that it boots with standard 600Mhz on demmand cpu settings within custom kernel, then you can boot up, try different settings with nofrills cpu, and see how stable it is then?
personally i keep at 600Mhz now.....i can put upto 768, but even then it will occasionally go nuts and feeeze up....600 is the most stable for my particular phone
Have you tried 600mhz default from here? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21423190

Hey Guys, I recently saw the jelly bean update on a youtube video and I tried doing the same thing on my phone, which didn't work very well.
The video was very detailed and explained everything. I did the whole rooting thing and flashing thing. And the last step which involves unzipping the
cm10 zip file or something, when I did that, the phone said installation aborted. I freaked out didn't know what to do and I pressed factory reset.
Now I think my old and new both systems are removed from the phone. When I turn my phone on, It shows the HTC quality brilliant logo stays
there for few seconds and restarts again to the same HTC screen.
I gave the phone to a guy who said he'll try to fix but couldn't. If you guys have any idea please let me know how to fix it. Recently bought the phone
and don't wanna lose it over stupid update.
Thank you!

Make sure you have clockworkmod 5.8.4.0 or newer, if not, flash it:
fastboot flash recovery cwm-5.8.4.0.img
Then get the boot.img for the ROM you want to install and flash it:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot erase cache
Then, from recovery, go to mounts and storage and mount as USB. Copy the ROM you want to flash to the drive, unmount and then wipe the cache/dalvik cache and then flash the ROM from recovery.
If you get any errors, post them here.

Hey, Thanks for replying.
From recovery, I checked the clockworkMod Recovery version is 5.8.3.1. So it's old.
Now the thing is, Since I did factory reset and data wipe from the options, the zip files I added before, I can't access them.
And I don't know now how to attach my phone to computer so I can transfer those files.
Please let me know how to flash it, if you have any link to step by step procedure that would be great.
I am attaching few images that I am getting right now.
Also, when I press mount Usb from recovery mode, unable to open ums lunfile (No such file or directory).
Your recovery version has usb mounting problems. Upgrade to 5.8.4.0 and you will be able to mount.

Guys look at his bootloader screen, it says EVITA - AKA DUAL CORE VERSION of the One X. @OP, you cannot install international ROMs on your version of the HTC One X. You're extremely lucky installation was aborted because if it proceeded, it could have hard bricked your device.
What I suggest you do is try flash another custom ROM that's meant for the evita or flash a RUU to return to stock

You need to go into the other forum for your model, try a search.
The way you flash a ruu is enter the mode you are in the pictures, then click fastboot, plug it into your computer after the ruu has downloaded. A ruu is a Rom update utility, it just flashes it all to stock.
It's a program you download onto your computer its an .exe if you're on windows then run it through and it will allow your phone to boot like its brand new.
Baring in mind all personal data will be lost.. but least your phone works.
Also I think if your bootloader is unlocked you need to relock it to run s ruu (I think)
Or you could just flash a Rom from your One X forum by following the instructions keep us updated.

Flashing an RUU requires plugging the phone into PC, locking the bootloader and double clicking.

So unfortunately I have to do it by my self.
Now, thanks to you, I have searched as you told me and I found the RUU for my carrier which is rogers.
I have found a video that shows how to do it step by step to take it back to ICS. The only problem is that the RUU I found is a zip file, and when I extract it, there are lots of Img files.
But the video shows the RUU as an .exe file. Now I don't know what to do with the zip file.
Please let me know what should I do next. If I could find the .exe file I would have done everything according to the video but I couldn't.
Thanks!

Get in the recovery, mounts and storage, mount usb storage. Now the computer will open your sd card folder, so just put the rom there and flash it normally. For the kernel, get to the hboot connect the phone to the computer and wait that it says fast boot usb, then put the kernel in the fast boot folder on your computer, run the cmd, get to the fast boot folder and type fastboot flash boot (your kernel).img

do a full wipe from recovery.

Full wipe, then try a different ROM? I liked CM10 but I guess it doesn't like me back
yeah, you also have to install its specific kernel
Okay I got the cdma pacman rom and its specified kernel. It STILL reboots after 30 seconds. Someone in that thread mentioned flashing over a stock rom, but that just confuses me. I just want to be able to make some calls badly
now fool n final do this.>>>
1. download rom and gapps, transfer them to root of SD card
2. extract boot.img(the kernel) from ROM zip and place it in fastboot folder(or use whichever kernel prescribed by the dev)
3. go into bootloader, FIRST flash the boot.img in fastboot(does the screen say FASTBOOT USB when u connect the phone to the PC?)
4. go into recovery, then FULL WIPE-factory reset, erase cache and dalvik cache.
5. then flash the ROM.
6. boot into the rom.then again enter into recovery and then flash gapps.
do the above steps in the same order all over again....

have you tried to flash another recovery? try Philz one (the best version depends on the rom you want to try), connect to pc, mount usb as storage, copy a rom on the phone and flash it if it is bootloop maybe it's a bad kernel flash or a missing kernel flashing process

no, if it's off you can't, but as buttons blink three times, maybe you can enter fastboot and so you can try to update recovery...
sorry, mine are only guesses as i've never faced such a condition, but if you can enter fastboot maybe you can recover the device
now it again turn on in recovery (if it is even recovery, i really dont know ). It shows this screen and i really know what to do, can you write it step by step? or post some link?
it's not recovery, it's fastboot
do this way: try to download again the unlock.bin from htcdev.com if you haven't got it, unlock the bootloader and flash the recovery i told you before, then enter recovery, connect to pc and select mount usb storage... then copy a rom zip on phone, reboot to bootloader and flash rom kernel, enter again recovery, wipe everything to flash a new rom and flash the zip.. you should be fine

p.s. before unlocking the bootloader again, update hboot to at least 1.39.0000

it's not recovery, it's fastboot
do this way: try to download again the unlock.bin from htcdev.com if you haven't got it, unlock the bootloader and flash the recovery i told you before, then enter recovery, connect to pc and select mount usb storage... then copy a rom zip on phone, reboot to bootloader and flash rom kernel, enter again recovery, wipe everything to flash a new rom and flash the zip.. you should be fine
search this threads for guides, there are many and i can't give you all the links

better idea is to keep it locked and get a ruu for him, you only need his main number :
fastboot getvar version-main

you're right Mr Hofs, but i really don't like stock rom and i've never used a RUU, so i fear i would have given wrong infos
anyway your way is the easiest one
Maybe he flashed the recovery as a kernel, so when he installs ROM and reboots it just boots recovery again.

RUU is Rom Update Utility, so a tool that you run on pc with the device connected that restores devices "as new"...
you need to find a ruu that matches the main number you get with the command Mr Hofs posted before

if it is like: in fastboot select getvar select version-main, then i cant do it, as you can see i havent got getvar in my fastboot menu
No, you have to install fastboot on your pc and run the command there... Search a guide about how to setup fastboot on pc...

Okay Im going to try to get the whole story in here, so stick with me.
I bought a used ATT m8, that was converted to GPE. It was unlocked and s-off.
I wanted to go back to stock Rom, but twrp recovery wouldnt flash ANYTHING. I tried a bunch of roms and mod files. I would frequently get Status 7 error. Tried different recoveries, same thing.
I tried using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2733523 this to get back to stock. Changed my CID to 11111111. Still didnt work. ROM would install, but it kept rebooting to recovery. I reflashed stock recovery and factory wiped. Then I installed TWRP again and nothing changed. Something really jacked up when I tried to flash an RUU zip using the ./fastboot oem rebootRUU command to flash a 1.5 gb RUU zip. Obviously I did something wrong, because now all I see is an HTC logo and four triangles at each corner. I can still enter adb commands, but the bootloader and recovery are both gone.
Any assistance would be SO appreciated. Im without a phone right now.
Yall are the best.
UPDATE: used fastboot to flash stock firmware. Now i have bootloader and twrp recovery but no rom to flash or nandroid to restore. I cant move any nandroid TO the device for some reaodn. Ive tried for about a half hour now. And the one rom that I tried to adb sideload failed to install

Did you run a Sense RUU? You'll need to to resize your partitions.
When the previous owner converted to GPE, he ran a GPE RUU that makes the system partition too small for Sense.
You need to run an AT&T RUU to convert back properly.
Here is a link for the official HTC/AT&T RUU download.
The full instructions are there as well for manually updating.
Read them.
The download is at the bottom of the page.
I finally got the phone booted back into gpe FYI.
But yes, I tried two different HTC ruu zip files by using the OEM rebootruu command and then flashing them. They were around 1.5 GB in size and I do recall it failing because the file was too large to complete is there a way to manually change partition size?
Also worth noting I am using a Mac, and can't use the HTC ruu .exe files

This thread has everything you need.
You'll want option 1. When you boot into bootloader, you'll have to select hboot to start the flash. I don't know why he left that out of his instructions.
Just to clarify, there are no prerequisites to doing this? I don't need to bother with firmware or anything? I just put that file on my SD card, rename it, flash hboot, flash file, reboot into sense?

Petty much.
Boot into bootloader, select hboot, press vol up to flash, press power button to reboot after the flash. Done.
You'll get prompts for the volume up and press power button.
No need to do anything but rename it, put it on extSD, and go to hboot.
You're amazing. I've spent countless hours troubleshooting this and never came across this thread. I'll update when finished to confirm it worked for me
Oh, I forgot to add, when you done with the flash make sure you delete the renamed file from your extSD. If you don't, every time you boot to hboot it'll try to update again.
So, everything was looking good until (11) System - FAILED
...at the bottom it had an error message saying something like "Image size too large" or something like that. I took a picture if it would help.
Basically the same thing ive been seeing with every other thing ive tried to do
