Did my APN get screwed up? Getting 2g only - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

So long story short I flashed a theme that wasn't compatiable with Wicked V5 rom so I dirty flashed wicked back and noticed I wasn't getting 4G signal anymore. So I thought it was a dirty flash issue so I clean flashed to another rom & now I'm still getting only Edge signal. My data plan is 2GB before I get booted to EDGE & im currently at 1.7gb so Tmobile hasn't shut off my cap. I even called T-mobile tech support which was useless cuz they made me do a bunch of stupid stuff like restart phone, check my mobile network etc & they refreshed my line but that hasn't done squat. So currently they said my area is fine signal wise but I'm thinking maybe my APN is screwed up? idk

Check ur imei number I had the same problem after a bad flash..if its on 0 or a generic imei let me know and I'll walk you though getting it back. Imei is in settings-aboit phone - phone status.

I did exactly what http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_AlQmfMJBK0&list=FLtKzl9OBgslau4mpj3kYj9Q&feature=mh_lolz this video said . Working on restoring the 4g now

I did everything the thread said about backing up / restoring but I'm still on Edge in the end -____-

ok i lied it somewhat works but. I have set network mode to WCDMA only to even see the 4g logo but once I do that my cell signal becomes very unstable & dips back to 0-1 bars. But if I go to LTE/GSM/WCDMA aka auto i go back to edge -____- so overall I'm still on edge. I've tried it 3 times, triple checked to make sure I did nothing wrong & same result still
From the 2nd link you said me the only thing I didn't do was "Inject your IMEI back into your phone" because there was no need to since the 1st link u sent me told me how to get IMEI back & I didn't "If you still have slow connections after that consider flashing stock again through Odin and then pushing the generated file onto the phone."

I'm not an expert but I can tell you exactly how u did it... Evil1art said that his ROM backs up bur efs folder. I love flashing ROMS.
It's been a very poor experience with samsung devices though.
Only reason I switched ROM was because it was shutting off when I took pictures with the DarkSide rom.
Then only my DATA worked and then no network whatsoever
I already tried swapping my SIM into another phone and my sim is fine
I even tried someone else's sim to my phone and it still doesnt read it.
Right now i am about to try going back to factory settings using this method
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/16727-howto-restore-stock-rom-recover-bad-flashes/
so it sounds like it is a common problem . however now it reads the sim but i get the error "your sim does not allow connection to this network." keep in mind it was working earlier today. any other suggestions before i pull this turd on ebay?
Just saying that I had no data Connection switching to Tuesday. Ended up wipeing cache, dalvik, and fixing permissions once more solved the issue.
Sent from a badass galaxy.
Sounds like u need to reflash your radio and flash your rom again...
But b4 that, do a factory reset
Your phone is STOCK now. The ROM, KERNEL, MODEM and BOOT LOADER are all replaced with this method and ROOT access is removed. Your personal data and apps are still on the phone though. You will probably want to clean this up before returning the phone.
The ODIN restore i did says i should be completely back to stock. still not working.
such a damn shame, i kinda liked this phone. im porbably out $80 on this garbage.
1. did you wipe all your ****? and fix permissions?
2. is this a CL or ebay phone?

When you do flash just make sure that your MMS settings are unchanged. I have found that when flashing GB and ICS roms that MMS settings change back to default - at least for me it did.
Thank you all very much

Sent from my "Other Phone" using Tapatalk Premium Application.
You should be fine flashing between ROMS.
Worse case, you will loose MMS, but thats a simple fix.
Download "MSL Reader" in the playstore
Dial the usual ##DATA#, select edit and enter your MSL, and tap Advanced, then scroll down to "MMSC URL" and tap it.
Enter:http:// followed by mm.myboostmobile.com, click OK and your MMS is done.
If you happen to wipe out your network settings, just do a profile update, and you should be good to go.
And always remember to do a backup before changing anything.

You can port it over before leaving sprint. But if you cut off your sprint account prior to porting the number its almost impossible to get it again.... Just sign up a phone on Boost and tell Boost that you want to port your existing number and they will know exactly what you mean. Then cutoff your Sprint account...
And yes, there is a guide in this section on how to flash your phone over to Boost mobile. You will need to purchase a "donor" phone to do it. Read the thread for more details.

So boost picked up the e4gt? Will there be some kinda flashable zip? Or do we have to go through that cdma software. Copy this, push that
I switched from Sprint to Boost. Bought my donor phone off ebay but really didn't need to since the local store I went to when I flashed had plenty of donor's. Once your e4gt is flashed you can load any rom and your settings will stick, except mms as noted in posts above. As always, be careful of what and how you wipe to avoid emmc brick. You can find a modded no data wipe that will preserve your data when moving from rom to rom. Right now I'm rocking the ICS build FG31 from manu. Solid everything and made for Boost. The great thing is you can play around and see which one fits your tastes. Enjoy!

Sounds dumb but verify that your imei came back and is the same as behind the battery.
Check to make sure your APN settings are set up correctly.

[Q] d2usc - 4G issues

Hey all, I'm at my wits end trying to figure out what's going on with my phone/service. First off I hope this is the correct forum since none of them officially address the US Cellular version of the S3.
So what is happening is that my device seems to only want to connect to 3G. I am running the latest nightly for CM 10.1. It all started last week while I was in the twin cities on data roaming for a few days. On my drive back to Wisconsin I notice I would go in and out of 4G service.. by the time I hit home I was on solid 3G service. This was last Friday. I knew there was some work going on the towers in the area as my brothers 4G service started working on Sprint. I just assumed it was something to do with that.
By Sunday and still on 3G, I called tech and they did everything under the sun to try to get me back on 4G to no avail. They ended up sending me a new phone. When the new phone arrived on Tuesday I did a factory reset on the old phone just to clear everything before sending it to them and I noticed it went back on to 4G. This was on the stock ROM, rooted still.
So I switched the phone over to the new one and sure as hell, comes up in 4G. I replaced the recovery and restored a backup I had.. phone pops up.. 3G. :crying:
I did a factory reset a few times and nothing.. still would only come up in 3G mode. I then restored a backup I had for the stock ROM and what do you know.. 4G. Flashed a fresh download of the stable 4 snapshot.. 3G.. then I did a factory reset and what do you know .. 4G.. reboot the phone.. back on 3G.. Tried AOKP.. 3G..factory reset.. 3G.. Back to CM 10.1 nightly.. 3G.. factory reset.. 4G.. reboot.. 3G.
I cannot figure out what the hell is going on.. it clearly isn't hardware as it's now happened on two phones. I thought it might have had to do with being on data roaming for a few days so I waited until the data billing cycle finished (the 6th) but no luck.
I'm at wits end.. I will try anything at this point to get it working again with CM/AOKP.. doesn't matter.. just want my 4G back!
Your phone does not have 4G, It has HPSA.
On AOSP/AOKP, your connection will show up as 3G until it's being used. Let's see some speedtests.
Don't go by what it says in the ststus bar. What does it say inder Settings > About Device > Mobile Network type?
Now go start a large download, like a rom or something. While its downloading check again and post what you see.

Speeds
Thanks for the quick responses guys..
First thing was my status bar was showing 4G for about a year.. it was just recently I started having the issue. I used to get about 20Mb/sec down and now I'm getting about 800Kb-1.5Mb. It's clearly much slower than it was.
And the network type is CDMA - EvDo rev A:6
Try going under Settings, More Settings, Mobile Networks, and try a different network mode.
Sent from my SGH-T999L using xda premium
Its selected as LTE/CDMA/EvDo. The only other option is CDMA/EvDO. I think it's set correctly.
What about Network Operators? Have you tried checking or trying a different one?

Not sure what you mean by network operators but the CDMA subscription is set to RUIM/SIM (which it should be) and the System Select is on Automatic and not Home Only.
Model is SCH-R530U
Under mobile networks you can manually search for and then select an operator.
Judging by your model number, you will likely find more and better help and probably others with your phone in the Verizon forum. (Possibly Sprints, but most likely Verizon)

Everything I've read involves going back to stock, factory reset, and reflashing. Is there any way to resolve this without reverting to stock? Or is that the only way? - Does it need to be unrooted? And also, one thing I was curious about, I have a stock backup, would flashing that, and then reflashing to a current CM backup do anything, or does it need to be a clean flash?
I would go totally back to stock and start over. It wouldn't even take more than an hour to do everything.

Yup, if you're having problems, taking shortcuts often result in more problems and more time involved than just starting over clean.

I'm sure this question has been answered b4 and I'm sorry. So just hear me out. I've had problems over the past week with getting my phone to receive SMS and calls. I can make calls but I'm not able to receive them. I was on the phone with the sprint the other night and they were doing all these things to try and fix it. They had me do dial pad codes and my phone did not respond to those. They had me send some SMS messages to myself the text went through but didn't go back to my phone. And when I reflashed the modem and rom on Sunday afternoon I lost 3g I used to get almost 5-6 bars in my house on 3g and now I barely get 1 bar. As for which phone to get...there is no way for me to answer that man...But i'll tell you this. When i get my next phone it will be the water/dust resistent S4..But i dont see a new phone helping the signal..
You could change you're prl to a roaming one..there are guides here and there online..But this only works for sprint not boost..If you're on sprint..a custom prl would be my move..

Signal isn't the problem. I have 2 sprint towers in my area closest one is 1/4-1/2 mile down the road from my house.

well..then before you go flashing a custom prl and having sprint freak if you use to much roaming data..lol
I would odin a one-click back to stock rooted ics...you might have something left over from rom flashes messing with you're signal. Make sure you back everything up on you're pc...because you need to use the wipe data one-click..i think its called ''no data''. I'll look to make sure.
edit..nope. Its full restore...not nodata..im a dummy..

Ya know I'm not trying to annoy you dude. But screw it I'll just use a different app for SMS for now. I'm just gonna save up for a new phone. And get a job at the sprint store right by my highschool lol. Employees get new phones for free.

Sorry..i seen you have signal now..ive been jumping around and helping others in about 3 different forums. If you're problem is just sms or mms. I would wipe the cache for the sms app in app manager. Then boot to recovery and wipe cache and dalvik cache.Reboot. If it is still wonky..try checking you're apn settings..if they are wrong.change them and reboot.
Should I just look online to see if they're wrong.
