2G mode and 3G mode only

I've noticed in the menu options, there is an option to keep the phone in 2G mode only. On the other hand, is there any way to keep the phone in 3G / 3.5 / 4G mode? Any software that can do this?

The phone will only switch to 2G if faster speeds are not available. The 2G mode option allows you to prevent the phone from switching to faster (and more battery consuming) data connections....
From the dialer, you can type in *#*#4636#*#* to bring up some "secret" settings. From there you can configure your phone to only use 3G.

How about if I don't want 2G at all and want it to stay 3G only, even if there is no signal? I remember this option on the SGS 2..

Doesn't stick all the time for some reason. Same with atrix. And other phones.

Go into phone info. From there if you scroll down a bit you will see a text that says something like "GSM/CDMA auto". Press that and you should get a drop down menu. Change the setting to "CDMA only". That should work.

Not sure how that disables 2G (1xRTT). Unless I'm mistaken, both 1xRTT (2G) and EVDO (3G) run on top of CDMA.
Also, you can get to this from settings->wireless & networks->More...->Mobile Networks->Network Mode
There you can select LTE/CDMA or CDMA.
And it always sticks

Is there a network mode to toggle 2G/4G on T-Mobile?

Wondering if there is a way in the network settings to force 2G ONLY or 4G?
WDCMA Preferred
GSM Only
Something like that?
Only way is dialing *#*#4636#*#*
And selecting it there.

This app is much faster than dialing:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=myc.phone.PhoneInfo
I use it all the time to quickly change from HSPA to EDGE.
You're welcome.

[Q] Is there any way to force HSPA/turn off LTE?

I get horrible LTE reception at work, and I know that my battery is paying a heavy price. HSPA on the other hand is great (4-5 bars usually).
On my Galaxy S4 I'd open *#*#4636#*#* and open up the device info and change the Network Type. But, the Nexus 7 doesn't have a dialer. Is there any other way to force HSPA on the nexus 7?
You can install ICS Dialer for example, enter your service code and get into the service menu. I tried, it works.
Yup, that worked perfectly. Thank you!

You can actually do this without having to install anything, though the app might make switching to and from a bit easier:
1. Go to Settings
2. Connections (tab)
3. More Networks
4. Mobile Networks
5. Network Mode
6. Change the network mode between LTE/WCDMA/GSM (for LTE) and WCDMA/GSM (for non-LTE)

Think you have to be rooted. Install the app Advanced Signal Status and under "additional info", then "device info" you can choose for different options.

when I am using my galaxy note 3, I input *#2263# to go to a menu where I can force LTE/WCMA my device and mostly it connects to only LTE.
in the Galaxy tab S , the code works but the option for LTE only is missing. so now I continuously connect to a slow 3g network.. bummer...
*UPDATE:
apparently you have to deselect all GSM bands and just select all LTE and WCMA bands.. you wont be able to use GSM bands but your device will lock on to LTE connections if avaialbe, 3g will apply if LTE is unavailable. hope this helps

Go to Settings - More - Mobile Network - Preferred network type
BTW you can't choose a 4g only network.

what do you mean no?
GSM only = 2G
WCDMA = 3G/ 3.5G
there should be options for your to choose...
like LTE/WCDMA/GSM Auto
WCDMA/GSM auto
WCDMA only
GSM only
and then there's also the quick toggle to enable/ disable 4G.
i believe what khiladi means is that the only thing you cannot do is select 4G/ LTE only. as per options mentioned above, 4G basically covers all and is AUTO. so when you select that, it can switch between the available signals and try to connect to the "best.
