I got the phone straight out the box and used the toolkit to root, it did it succesfully and now my phone boots and says galaxy s 3 and makes the noise but the screen stays black and the led light is blue, i've booted cwm through toolkit and did a factory reset and everything nothing shows up. Like I said its like my screen doesn't work but the battery signals shows up when the phones off and the white gs3 shows up at boot then nothing.
You can put your phone into download mod, get one of the ROM from here --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1949687, and odin
Or
follow these steps:
1. Vol Up + Home + Power (Let go the power button when the phone vibrate)
2. Factory Reset
Good luck

Not sure what to do.

I updated my OP as I got things to connect. Now after seeing your reply I can get into CWM and i factory reset but the phone still sits on black screen after boot.
Then, choose the first option, which is to put your phone in download mod and odin your phone with one of the ROM on my previous post link.

Just tried the stock JB file given in that link, in odin I can't add the tar file I extracted. it says its invalid.
Is the file you downloaded from the first section root66 - PreRooted Firmware (for use with Odin)?
After you selected the file to load into the PDA, wait for a few minutes for the ODIN to extract the file.

I downloaded that then extracted it myself then tried to add it to odin
I don't remember that I have to extract the file myself. Can you see the file without extrating it?
Edit: if you extracted that file, make sure not change the file name.

It's simple as this put your phone in download mode by first holding volume down home and power all at same time.
Download the stock ics or jb tar file for the t999 galaxy s3 JUST GOOGLE IT YOU WILL FIND IT.
And simply place FILE right on desktop
Open odin and Uncheck auto reboot and reset In the Odin tool all 3 should be unchecked. Now Select pda find and choose the tar file on desktop before selecting it rename and delete the .Md5 it should just end with
. Tar
Then select it and click start it will show reset and pass its done then manually pull battery and restart phone.

I would suggest flashing a pre rooted Odin stock firmware. Especially if you are a new user. Read the threads about flashing carefully especially md5 checking and what to do if something goes wrong.
Noob here, please be patient.
Samsung SGH-T989D was running CM 9. Did a factory reset as I was planing to sell the phone, but once I did that the phone was stuck in a loop at the boot logo.
Tried upgrading via recovery mode to the new CM 10, but was still stuck in boot loop.
Tried clearing cache, etc...but nothing would work.
So I downloaded the newest stock Telus ROM, put the phone into download mode and used Odin to flash - however Odin failed.
Now the phone won't start and I immediately get the following message: "Firmware upgrade encounted an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again".
I tried Kies recovery mode but it does not see my phone. Odin still sees it, but wont flash it.
I found this thread for the S2 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1457458.
But I have not been able to find one for the S2x.. Where would I find the bootloader and kernel to flash as it explains in the above guide...
Or maybe someone has other advice?
Thanks for your help!!

Lots of stuff the t989 there. Just be sure you actually have the t989 or t989d.
Or look through our dev section for probably more up to date stuff.

All u need to do is download Odin 1.85 to ur PC, then go to http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/hercules and download the twrp 2.6.6.0.tar.md5 to ur PC, power ur phone on in download mode, the same screen will come up "firmware...issue", kids will do nothing for this and u will need to make sure kids is NOT RUNNING. Odin will not see the device if kies is running at all, now open the Odin program and connect the phone to PC using OEM factory USB cable, on Odin it should say "added", now click the box PDA, find the twrp file u downloaded b4, click on that file and then hit start in Odin, DO NOT CHECK ANYTHING ELSE... Let Odin do its thing and u will be fine, Odin will reboot the phone and u will now have twrp recovery, boot to recovery to finish rooting process

I wasnt going to use the files from the other thread, I just assumed I could try this procedure once I got the correct files for the SGH-T989D:
Recovering a soft bricked phone
1) Grab the Recovery Package, and you'll see a bunch of .tar files. Take a look at the names. You'll see CODE, MODEM, CSC and .PIT. Put each one in its place.
2) Turn off your phone. Enter Download mode by presing Volume Down + Home + Power button.
3) Plug in your phone. It will show you, in a yellow box in ODIN, ID:COMx (x being the number displayed, sometimes displays 7, sometimes displays 9)
Now here, take a breath
First try flashing WITHOUT the .PIT and re-partition. And only if it DOESN'T WORK OR FIX then you flash with the .PIT and Re-Partition ticked.
4) Once ready and done all your prayers, press Start. Wait patiently. It usually takes 5 minutes to flash.
Have you done everything correctly until now? Then...
Congratulations on recovering your phone!
You deserve some cake afterwards, and some rest
Now, if your problem is the NAND rw coruption, and wasn't fixed by the above fix, then follow these steps :
5) Download the Kernel. Flash it in PDA. Without ticking Re-Partitioning
6) Successful? Nice, hope is still present.
7) Flash the recovery package, following steps 1-4 This should fix your issue. If it does not, then :
WARNING : FLASHING A BOOTLOADER IS DANGEROUS. FLASH WITH EXTREME CAUTION.
8) Download the Bootloader. Flash it as PDA or Bootloader in ODIN. Without ticking Re-Partitioning
9) Flash the Kernel, as in step 5
10) Flash the recovery package, like in steps 1-4 And that will fix any of your issues
11) After you have recovered your phone, I advise you to have your phone completely up to date by browsing and downloading the firmware for your version through SamMobile!

I did another stupid thing and the twrp doesnt work anymore. How do I check my bootloader?
Let's get your phoneup and running for now.
Do you have an external SD card? If you do, copy the latest CM11 for the d2lte to the card.
Use Odin to install the most recent tar version of Philz Touch for the d2lte from here: https://goo.im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_Advanced_Edition/d2lte/ . Do no check anything except F.Reset.Time in Odin.
Once you see Reset in the Odin's status window, disconnect the USB cable, pull the battery.
Insert the SD card into your phone. Insert the battery, boot into recovery, and flash CM11, reboot the phone.
Tried installing with Odin but it keeps failing. It says "Unsupported dev_type"
Odin is giving that error message?
Make sure you are flashing the correct tar.md5 file. It goes in the PDA box of Odin.

My phone is giving that message. The file I downloaded was zip. When I tried renaming it, it wouldnt let me
Unzip it. Odin only flashes .tar and .tar.md5

Hello!
I am very new to tinkering with phones. I had a Galaxy S3 sitting idle and thought I'd put Cynaogynmod on it, which is where this all started.
This phone has 4.4.2 installed. Modem = I747MVLUFNK2
I made the mistake of installing I747MUMUEND3 modem. Now my wifi won't turn on. I've done fair amount of searching and couldn't find original modem for 4.4.2. Help please!
Easiest way to fix the issue would be to re-flash the nf2 firmware from sammobile.com. Alternatively, you could download the firmware from sammbile.com, extract the modem, and flash just the modem.

Thank you.
I have downloaded the firmware from sammobile.com. It is 910MB in size. I was going to put it on phone's memory card and load it via recovery. However, even though I have deleted absolutely everything from the card, Windows is telling me it only has 768MB of 968MB free. I'm not sure what's going on with this. Any ideas?
I really only need the modem firmware, how do I extract just that from the entire thing?
Edit: Okay, so I was able to open the .tar.md5 using 7zip (It complained but opened it). I see a bunch of files in there (see screenshot), which one would correspond to the modem?
The NON-HLOS.bin file is the modem.
I have the whole NK2 firmware (TELUS) on my PC, do you want a download link?

Thank you. I was able to download the entire firmware from sammobile. If you take a look at post#3, it explains why I am not able to put it on the phone's memory card.
As an alternative, you could re-flash the entire ROM using Odin. The file gets transferred to your phone from your PC with the USB cable.
Before flashing anything, you should confirm the bootloader on your phone. You can do this by donwloading the Samsung Phone Info app from the Play Store. Flashing the wrong file can brick your phone.
I can certainly give that a shot. However, right now the problem is I can't access the internet as phone's wifi will _not_ turn on. So there's no way for me to download something off Play store.
Edit: I am learning how to sideload, seems pretty straight forward. Since I already have the correct firmware from sammobile, should be able to side load it. Although, audit13 has now scared me a little I must say.

Thanks for that. As per the app, bootloader version is I747MVLUFNK2.
Now, I do have the whole firmware downloaded. I would love to simply install it by copying it onto my sd card and installing via recovery. However, the filesize is 910MB. My sd card is 968MB, I have deleted everything on it and still Windows tells me I only have 764MB free. How can that be?!

I flashed Philz recovery (philz_touch_5.15.0-i9300.tar.md5) via Odin and now phone wont boot into recovery. I had Auto Reboot checked in Odin but phone booted into Android after. I did eventually get a PASS from Odin.
I can put the phone in Download mode just fine.
If I press Volume UP + Home + Power button, I do see Samsung logo with blue text on top left. Then screen goes blank and then phone boots to Android (seems like it reboots). I had tinkered with rooting the phone before, so I don't have stock recovery software atm. That might be the reason it won't boot into recovery. I would like to go back to stock recovery and give flashing philz recovery a shot again. How do I go back to stock?

Hi there. A friend of mine gave me a bricked L900 stuck in the black "Galaxy Note II" screen. The first thing I did was to enter stock recovery, but a bunch of red error messages appeared (as pictured). Wiping data/factory reset didn't do anything. Entered Download mode without a problem and then tried to flash every single Odin firmware for the L900 found on the whole internet, but no matter what I flash, Odin ALWAYS fails. Also noticed that after an unsuccessful flash, still in download mode you can read in red: "sw rev check fail device 3 binary 2". Also, it is not recognized by Kies.
The previous owner said the phone bricked while receiving an OTA update. I have spent a whole week trying to fix this thing! I decided to ask for some help here before smashing it with a hammer.
Any help is much appreciated!

You will need to extract the files and use the flash tab. Don't remember if a pit files is included in the tar.md5 package (fyi you might have to remove the .md5 to extract the files) bit if you need one let me know.
On the flash tab select your pit file then add a partition, then select the corresponding file. You will need to do this for every partition you want to flash. Once setup click on the start button.

Thank you. I have extracted the files but Heimdall doesn't recognize them. It doesn't recognize any .tar or .md5 file. Thanks again.
You give up on this yet domenicostorino? Looks like according to your images, you just need to odin with an included pit file. Lemme know, I have a pit that works for this device, had to fix one last week. Your images are showing no such directory, so that should fix you.
Edit: Grab the pit from here Use it with stock tar and flash via odin. That is the one I grabbed.
Hey! My Note has been collecting dust on the corner of my desk but I haven't given up on it yet! I would really apprecite if you can share that pit file and some steps. So far, EVERYTHING I've flashed with Odin just fails. Maybe that pit file is all I'm missing! Please help me bring that phone back to life!!

Just grab that pit file I edited with, select it in the pit section of odin, it should check mark the repartion as well. At the same time grab the stock firmware tar. You are going to be doing everything just like you have been, just using a pit file and repartitioning at the same time. Good luck, just holler, I will be around most of today. I used this firmware with that pit. Firmware
If it doesn't boot, don't worry, enter recovery and see if it fixed the can not mount, I don't know which baseband you currenlty have, so that could keep it from booting. If that happens and mounts are fixed, then just grab the last firmware and flash it without the pit file. Here is the latest FIRMWARE.
Remember you flashing tar files, all three of them need to be extracted.
Thank you. I did everything exactly as you said but the pit file didn't do the trick. It failed right away again. Of couse when I enter recovery the same can't mount messages in red appear again.

Assuming you extracted the t0lte.zip to read t0lte.pit and placed in pit section of Odin with repartition checked, and extracted the rom to a .tar and place in the AP section then hit start. Should have worked or did for me anyway. Have you tried different usb cable as well as a different port on pc? <that can cause odin to fail. Also which Odin version are you using? I use 3.09 Odin. Wife's phone went on the blink last week because of a battery failure, nothing would mount after replacing battery. What I described is all I did, she is back up and running with latest stock and rooted now.
After looking at this again, according to the images on first post, you have the latest stock build NE2. I extracted the pit file from the wife's phone and compared to the other. They are the same. At this point I would just try one more time with the pit and the latest stock firmware. If that doesn't work then maybe it is just a bad eMMC.
Here is the extracted pit from wife's phone if you want to try it. View attachment L900_NE2.7z
I did try again many times using the pit file and latest NE2 firmware. I guess the eMMC is faulty. Thanks for your help anyway!

I'm having a similar issue. Phone was charging in the truck, came out to the Galaxy Note 2 boot screen with the green light on, once I unplugged it though, it just died, Any attempts after that and the screen goes fuzzy on me. I can only boot into downloader mode, but everything I've tried to flash via two different ODIN's so far fails almost immediately. http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-2-sprint/help/odd-semi-brick-t3082102 I'd really love some help sorting this out.
