Hello guys ive gotten myself into quite a problem here. Starts of with my daughter breaking off the end of my s pen in the note 2 itself so I had to disassemble so I can retrieve the other half. All went smoothly but then I accidently slipped over the area of the power button and heard a terrifying snap. I tried to power the phone on but it wasnt working. Then I tried to take the battery out and in then plug it into the charger. It would turn on but only where it shows the battery charging. I have ordered a new replacement for the phone but am afraid of the repercussions due to the fact that I am rooted. If anyone can help me with an alternative way to turn the phone on I would greatly appreciate it. I need to unroot it asap! If it works I will love to buy u a couple of drinks! Thanks to all of u!

Ty for ur feed back but what is a sub jig and how can I get one? Sorry for the newbness.
What you're looking for is called a USB JIG - it allows you to power on and boot the device into ODIN mode in the event that you've soft bricked it, or in this case have a broken power button.
More information can be found here: http://www.xda-developers.com/android/need-a-samsung-usb-jig-build-your-own/
Have a great day!

i just bought the tmobile galaxy s 2 and was trying to root it. obviously i did something wrong and now its stuck on a black screen. it will not power on AT ALL and when i plug it into the usb it looks for driver QHSYSB_DLOAD. ive tried everything someone please help. i will pay someone to fix my phone if i have to
You need to get in download mode and odin back to stock. Pull battery and put back in. Go to different computer, win XP works best, download/install drivers on PC then plug phone in to PC and download mode should come up.

Also you may have to hold both volume buttons down. It works both ways with and without volume buttons. Search threads how to get in download mode.

It's bricked. I had the same thing happen a few days ago. Just take it back to the T-mobile you bought it from (assuming you bought in-store) and they'll replace it. Seeing your phone recognized as that "QHSYSB_DLOAD" device seems to be an issue with Qualcomm CPUs and happens mainly to HTC phones for obvious reasons. From the hours of research that I did before returning my phone, no one has ever successfully recovered from that kind of brick.
i bought it used so tmobile wont replace it. BUT i registered the phone on samsungs website and it says its still in warranty with them. do you think samsung could replace it?
Yeah I'd do that. They should be able to help you out as long as you don't say you were trying to root it lol. Yours won't vibrate or anything when you press the power button right?
nope it doesnt vibrate. what do you think of this?

Yup, mine wouldn't vibrate either. The only sign of life was when it was plugged into the PC in an attempt to get into download mode. I read that when you get to the point where the phone can't even get into download mode properly(showing the usual warning about custom OSes, that the jig device won't work, unfortunately. It may be worth a shot though if the price is right.
just shipped out to samsung. hopefully they dont realize why its broken and try to charge me for it
My friend's S2 is having the following issues:
The phone will not turn on (Darkside 3.6 ROM with DarksideX Kernel). The phone will show the Samsung logo, the Darkside X kernel flash and then it would shut off. It will then have a constant vibration ever 2 seconds or so.
I tried going into recovery mode to try and wipe all the caches, but the phone will not let me go into recovery mode at all. It will give me the constant vibration mentioned above.
I'm guessing the issue is being caused by Kernel crash so I tried going into download mode so I could try and flash a new Kernel via Odin, but once I get into the warning screen and I press volume up to go to download mode, the phone go into download mode for a split second before shutting off and go into the constant vibration mode again.
Any idea what's going on? Or did anyone have had these problems in the past?
I flashed her phone a few months ago and it's been working flawlessly until last night. So I know it's not a bad flash. I'm getting frustrated here because I can't keep the phone turned on long enough to re-flash or to ODIN or to do anything.
Any help is appreciated!
Try letting it sit for a couple of minutes, the battery might have drained too much. This happened to me before I hope this helps, every once in a while when it turns off and on try to boot into recovery and just reboot back out to restart the phone to a normal boot.

I've tried letting the phone sit for hours.
I've tried unplugging and then plugging back in and not touching it for hours.
I've tried charging the battery to 100% (with my phone) and then putting it in my friend's phone.
Nothing's working
Sounds like the power button may be stuck, or a hardware failure.

Power button is definitely not stuck.
I'm worried that it's hardware failure, but the phone is still under warranty and if that's the case, I'm trying to get this back to stock so I can claim the warranty.

This happened to a couple people a while ago. One had some lint or corrosion on the battery contacts, they cleaned it, and that fixed it.
skrambled said:
BOOM!!!! I fixed it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I knew it was a battery or battery connection issue. I removed the back plating and noticed that there was some lint on the inside that was bridging the battery connections (I don't know the tech terms, sorry).
Used some air duster and blew it out. Reassembled and it is working like a charm now.
(If Joosty is reading this, I did a factory data reset--including USB storage--immediately so no worries about any personal data you may have had on there.)
EDIT: For anyone trying this fix just thought I'd mention that I used a 1/16 screwdriver to get the screws out and that getting the cover off was a little tricky--I thought I was going to break the plastic when trying to pop it off. Also, the volume rocker button falls right out so make sure to watch for that...

Damn... I guess you should try a jig, that's the only thing I have in mind. Sometimes you need to take everything out such as the sim card, Sdcard etc... let sit for 5 minutes then try to put the battery in to go into download mode. Last time I was getting so frustrated and noticed the USB cable was still in and that was the reason I couldn't get into recovery I was so heated! Haha anyways I hope this helps.

Yeah, I'm ordering a jig and hoping that it would force my phone to download mode and keep it on long enough for me to flash new kernel or stock rom.
But I did try letting the phone sit overnight before attempting anything to it with no results. If the jig doesn't work, I'm just going to send it in for the JTAG service. I e-mailed them and they said they would be able to fix it.
What??

This does not make sense. First, were you able to go into download mode using Vol up+down and USB cable plugged in to computer? If you can, then press vol up to continue and start ODIN on your desktop, flash the stock ROM (download from the Galaxy S2 Android Dev threads) and see if that works.
To me this does not sound like a hardware but more like a corrupt software issue.
I hope you just don't waste your money for nothing here.

As I'd mentioned in my first post, I'm able to go into download mode, but I'm unable to keep the phone turned on for me to do anything with ODIN.
I'm hoping that by using the JIG, it will somehow force my phone to stay in download mode long enough for me to flash.
That happened when my phone's Seidio battery had some liquid spilled on it. It did the same exact thing but I used my stock battery to boot it, let the phone run from the charger and replaced the battery. That fixed it for me. Try using another battery.

Does anyone know a way to go into download mode without using the home button. I am going to unroot the phone and take it to sprint and have them fix it. Also would a water damaged battery mess up the phone? i lost the original battery some how and i took my friends old one. Please can someone help me out i really need this fix.

I have a sprint epic touch (GS2) that had jellybean the newest update from Samsung for the device.
The power button was going out on it and I tried fixing and breaking it off... To small for me to solder back on.
So I ordered a JIG from amazon, works GREAT on my tmobile vibrant and my sprint galaxy s 4, but won't work on my S2.
It's charged to almost full battery, Any ideas to get it to turn on so I can root it? I searched the forum and saw if I rooted it back to older version the jig would work... But the only reason I have a JIG is to power it on, but it didnt work, so other then replacing the power button any ideas? Thanks
Unfortunately with the new bootloader the jig will not boot you up to recovery without pushing the power button. You can Google mobile tech videos. They have a power button repair service. I am also able to replace power buttons as well. It is fixable as long as you didn't break any pads or completely ruin the traces to the pads.

Why is it only on the G2 that the boat loader was changed? My G4 the usb jig works.
I think they might. Not sure. It is really easy to replace the screen. I am not entirely sure... Ever since the official JB release, a jig will not force the phone to power on. I have an idea that it has something to do with preventing people from rooting. I downgraded my bootloader though, so I have no issues.

I thought a straight up battery pull/replace turned the phone on with the new Boot loader. Have you given that a try?
Edit: also, the app nomoarpowah from chainfire keeps the phone in a shutdown state with a scheduled or a "reboot now" button on screen, so that may help with not having a power button. Needs root, but who doesn't have that?

If you don't have insurance coverage and are out of warranty, you can replace the switch yourself. Several eBay sellers offer replacement power switches for the Epic Touch for about ten bucks.
Or, if you don't have mad soldering skills, you can ship it out to get fixed. A few sellers offer mail-in repair service:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Sprint-Epic-4G-Touch-FIX-POWER-SWITCH-Samsung-Button-SERVICE-/151047295293
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Power-Button-Repair-Samsung-Galaxy-S-Galaxy-S-II-Galaxy-NOTE-MORE-/320910836052
Replacing the switch is probably much like replacing a USB port. This shows how to replace your microUSB port without a fancy de-soldering station or hot air pencil. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ao5T9_XcCrU
So I'm not new by any means to xda or fixing electronics of any sort so I'd not be here asking for ALL possibilities of assistance I can get. .. Throw any possible solution you can my way as it can't hurt to try most ideas.
I'm working on my brothers SPRINT model galaxy S3. This thing is in pristine condition never dropped always in his Otterbox.
It will not power on so I cannot get into download mode however I can, if I finagle it enough get glimpses of the screen flashing on so I can see the battery icon for 5 seconds like it wants to power on
He bought a brand new battery direct from Samsung yet when plugged in via Samsung Wall charger nothing. .. No charging light zilch. If I try the USB charger that came with it nothing either.
No lights. No powering on. No way to get into download mode to try to bring it back from literally working before going to bed then he said he woke up and it was like a brick.
Any idea if there is a way to get this working again seeing that I get no power at all?
Thanks

I'd have to agree with @MIKEY309 on this one. It sounds like a power button issue. I would think you'd have at the least a charging light, because even when it's powered off it displays a charging battery on the screen. Jigs are cheap and easy, and good to have on hand, so I say give that a shot, at least, and if that doesn't work, then go the button route. Good luck!

It must likely is the power button, but try pulling the battery out & give it about ten minutes… put the battery back in & try powering it back up. I know it sounds stupid but give it a try, I had something like this happen to me before & this worked for me. Good luck.
Jessooca said:
Thanks guys, I was actually pretty sure it was the ever so infamous failed power switch on the board, which everything I have done and tried suggests so. I just thought perhaps maybe there was a possibility it could be fixable without having to get that power switch replaced.
I can slap it against my leg and voila, it always vibrates and attempts to power on, sometimes It'll stay powered on, I did get it into download mode and used a stock firmware file to Odin it back to stock, my only concern is that darn Custom Binary Trip counter now, I may just find a local shop to see if they'll replace it for less than $50 I am also considering buying a bad esn/ or cracked screen Sprint SIII to swap out the boards with, unless someone has one to donate. For now though I'll be without a phone until I can afford to get it replaced.
Thanks again!
