change keyboard settings - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

Every time I open the keyboard it automatically loads to handwriting with s pen. How do I change this to default load a keyboard with keys.
I looked in language and input but couldn't find any relevant settings.
Thanks for all help

are you trying to do the keyboard with the s pen out? If so it defaults to handwriting

Yes, thanks. Is there a way to turn that off?

I actually just found out how. When keyboard is displayed tap and hold the key between Sym and the space bar. There's a small info pane for the keyboard and on the bottom right is the settings. From there you can turn off default hand writing with s pen.

Setting T9 instead of XT9

On my Kaiser I always set word correction to be T9 (pop up list of suggestions) rather than XT9.
I did the change using advanced config utility. The advanced config utility I have for the TP2 does not have this feature.
Who know how to adjust the registry to enable T9 instead of XT9?
Not sure if this is what you're looking for but here goes...
Go to "Settings" tab in TF3D
Tap "All Settings"
Go to "Personal" tab
Tap "Input"
With "Touch Input" selected, tap "Options..."
Go to "XT9 Settings" tab
Uncheck "Auto-Substitution"

Thanks for the reply but that's not it.
In XT9 the default, word suggestions appear in a row across the screen.
In T9 the word suggestions appear in a pop up block on the screen.

Has anyone figured out how to enable T9 instead of XT9 on the TP2?
I think the answer to your question is found in the thread:

I'm not very sure as I don't know what the T9 is supposed to look like...

T9 is a text predictive input method found mostly on mobile phones, where you use numeric keys to enter letters (hence the letters on each key) and the software predicts the word by the sequence in which you press the keys. This input method is present on my Dopod D810.
The word completion function being discussed is not a part of T9, but a Pocket PC/Windows Mobile feature that has always been present on PPC devices (way before these PDA convergence phones) but has been replaced by HTC to give a different behaviour and appearance.
I think I have the problem figured.
Once you do the reg tweaks T9 pop up word suggestion works great until you try and do a new contact.
When you move from a text field to a number field the keypad automatically changes to numeric and after that it will not change back again at all for any text field.
Some clever person out there needs to work out what other registry change needs to be made to re-enable the auto switching of the keyboard between text and numeric fields while still maintaining the T9 word suggestion.

Predictive text doesn't work on all apps using keyboard

for me anyway it doesn't work (green letter suggestions) on google search widget, on internet, or on market search. Does work on email, 3Banana app and messaging.
Is that how others find it?
Keyboard
That seems to be the default behaviour of the stock keyboard. Try searching and installing the HTC_ime keyboard as it has more configurable options including the one you want!
Iain
Install this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=663608
You have option to enable that predictive text on search input, etc.
It is the same as the stock keyboard, but much more features
I have installed it, but can't get it to "select" eg "long press on any text input field" as the install instructions thread says to do.
As in hold my finger on the input box? Does nothing.
As in hold a key? That just toggles it.

Customize User Dictionary

Has anyone been able to change or update words in their user dictionary? I use the standard Samsung Keyboard, but I cannot find a setting for user dictionary anywhere. I can goto options for the samsung keyboard, but it will only learn from gmail, facebook, etc. Any help would be appreciated.
PS
The samsung keyboard letters are grayed out in language and input, but I can click on the cog next to it to get to settings.
I tried the Swype, but couldn't figure it out either so I went back to my trusty old SlideIt. Easy customizable dictionary + resize keyboard however you like + move keyboard to left or right side for one-handed typing + many more customizations, including how long you want to longhold a key to get the upper character (min. time is 0.1 sec!). Get the paid version. It's better.

Does it have the numbers separately set above the keyboard? Each of the keyboard I have looked at don't have this feature which keeps me using the stock keyboard.

Numbers are, like on a regular laptop/desktop chiclet keyboard, superscripted on the top row of keys (i.e. the qwerty row). So to access the #1, you longhold 'q'. In settings, you can adjust the longhold duration. Mine is set to 0.1 sec, which is so short a time that it is almost the same as having a dedicated #1 key. It's so quick that as I'm getting used to it, I've unintentionally typed the longhold characters quite a few times.

That's based on the older ICS keyboard. Notice on the note 2 with jellybean keyboard you get a separate set of number keys, allowing them to add even more special characters to the letter keys? Trying to retain that. Think I found a few new ones tho. Thx.
anyone able to edit user dictionary ... or import text file ... right now its learning from facebook and gmail but cannot import it by whatsapp ... software like User Dictionary manager show blank dictionary

How to add languages to S-pen direct input?

I cannot get my Note to recognize Finnish writing in direct input popup window no matter what. Works fine on my Note 3 though.
There is the language indicator showing that it is set on English but the menu that opens by holding on it has no options for other languages even though I've enabled them from settings.
The real problem is that it simply wont accept characters åäö. On my Note 3 the Menu only has Finnish but even with that selected I can write English without issues (like now).
Where's the problem?
Try swiping left or right on the space bar to change the handwriting language. I have Greek enabled in addition to English so that I can write the necessary Greek characters for my scientific notes.

Is there no way to enable both languages at the same time?
Same for my SwiftKey Keyboard.

Under settings/control/languages&input, click the cog next to samsung keyboard. The next page should give the option to add input languages. Then when using handwriting input window, holding down the second item at the top lets you choose your newly loaded languages.
Max languages is 4 including english so if you're a true polyglot you're in for a lot of extra tapping :/

[Q] how to change keyboards

I have a few keyboards on my Tab S, but i can't find a way of switching between them.
I can see in my settings that i have Swiftkey, swype and the default samsung one, which it is stuck on. .. i can select either in the settings>General> Language but it doesn't affect the actual keyboard when i come to write things. .. is there a shortcut, or a setting to change the keyboards?
Otherwise, it seems the only way would be to uninstall, then reinstall. .. which seems bonkers. .
Help .. Thanks
I can change my keyboard just fine. Settings, general, language and input, then I just touch the box next the the keyboard i want and then hit default (above the samsung keyboard and pick the one i want. Heres a pictures. Maker sure you change the default to the keyblard you want.
ahh.. the default button... Obviously! Yeah.
Doh!
Thanks..
