It's located right here in Galaxy S I9000 Android Development section.
27.What is the .pit file? Why are there different versions?
The .pit file contains information regarding the partitioning of the internal ROM (note, that this is NOT the internal SD card! They are different memory chips!) and it is used during the flashing procedure. There are currently two version of the .pit file, respectively ending on 512.pit and 513.pit. They differ in that they have different partition sizes stored for each of the partitions that is created on the ROM. As of now, all ROMs seem to be functioning without any problems when the 512.pit file is used, whereas ROMs from version XWJG5 on do not work when the 513.pit file is used.
Not that these describe the partition of the ROM, however, they only actually change the sizes of the partitions if the 'repartition' option is checked in Odin3 during flash. You can flash providing the 513.pit file while your device is formatted according to the 512.pit file, however, this can cause unforeseen complications and it is advised to either use the .pit file according to which your phone is partitioned or alternatively select the 'repartition' option during flash.

From what I can tell you can't go wrong with 512.pit.
PIT and firmware upagrade by ODIN
I downloaded my original firmware from samsung-firmwares.com and decided to try and flash using odin. I thought I would try and flash without putting a PIT file in the allocated PIT file box and only putting the PDA in the PDA file box.
For some reason those files must have the PIT file built into the PDA. Am I correct in saying that? Because it worked for some reason. Am I going to have problems down the track because I never added a PIT file when flashing with ODIN.
Cheers

Just curious, what has you needing a pit file? When you use a pit file, you'll also need a package that writes data to all of the partitions that the pit file re-partitions. I haven't looked yet, but I'm pretty sure that the stock leaked firmwares don't have images for a few of the necessary partitions (like userdata, etc.).
i need also the pit file
mine was fixed by jtag with a 16 gb image file
and i have a 32 gb motherboard, so need pit file

Hi
ANYONE FOUND PIT FILE FOR THIS DEVICE?
My device is in Download mode and not getting any of stock roms via odin.
I am looking for pit file or better - a set of Rom files.
Thanks

Does anyone own a Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4" 32GB version?

The 32gb version comes in the international versions and is not sold in the USA. I am hoping to get a copy of the pit file or I may have to try to use the pit from my Tab Pro 12.2" 32GB.
You can create the Pit.file if you download a multiple ROM and extract the CSC file ,than you have the PIT.file.
