I personally prefer the interface of cwm (more of a back room of a computer type feel if that makes sense) but when I rooted my sister's phone (no CWM available) I got my first taste of TWRP. And first thing that I noticed, is that the ui makes A LOT of sense. And I especially like some features like being able to flash multiple files, and usb storage from recovery mode. So my question is, which do you use? And why?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
TWRP because it's easier to use and makes more sense to me than CWM.
Sent from my SGH-I747 using xda premium
I use TWRP i find it easier and faster and the ui is very simple and clean.
I run TWRP 2.3.3.1. I'll never use CWM again. love its features. =)

Anybody know how to mount internal storage in TWRP?
I recently switched to TWRP and I'm not looking back. The touch interface is so much easier than using volume keys to navigate.

I remember reading somewhere on here that the touch version of CWM wasn't as reliable, so I have avoided it.

I haven't used in on my S3, but haven't had any issues with it on my Nexus 7.
I personally never used TWRP. I always used CWM. Never had any issues with it such as bad back ups or corrupt files. Been using it since the Galaxy S1 days. I'm just loyal I guess.
Sent from my SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
How come twrp has more options for wiping your device and cwm only has cache, dalvik and factory/reset?
I have the touch version of CWM. I think I might try it out seeing as it's proffered by 4 out of 5 people on this post. I'm sure gonna miss the open DROID icon, and people thinking I'm a complete techy when I flash stuff

Can someone explain to me the pros and cons of switching to TWRP? I want to move to TWRP because it's new and shiny but I'm afraid about the part of the backups not being compatible with each other. Is there anything I need to know before I make the jump?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
... if your going to use twrp and not switch back... its not really any different other than backups not being cross compatible... but so what if your stick to twrp.

Nope you can inject twrp after flashing any rom or kernel to retain the recovery...

It's not compatible with some programs like rom manager and titanium backup, but can be "injected" into all ROM setups. I stick with CWM because I love the way I can name my own nandroids from rom manager. That's a deal breaker for me if I can't.
I use TWRP on my Kindle because that was the method at the time. Like mentioned before you cannot rename your backups which can get really confusing. I see no need to use TWRP over CWM, and personally wouldn't use it if you had CWM already installed. It would be like taking a giant step backwards IMPO.

I use TWRP mainly because it's easier to navigate.
Epic Ice Cream Sandwich
You can go into /sdcard/TWRP/backups/(ur serial number) and there will be a file folder that contains your backup all you have to do is rename it
sent from my cm9 loving SPH-D700 using tapatalk
Twrp is interactive, newer, a little easier to use as it is more straightforward.
Sent using FTL technology from the resurrection ship.
If you rename a TWRP backup file TWRP will no longer have the ability to locate it. Or at least this was the case on my Kindle using the method described above.

I'm not saying that you are too lazy to do a simple search, but....well, you ARE!
So here:

I have been using cwm for ages but this 6.x.x.x crap caused me to much grief so now I run twrp touch and won't go back.
Sent from my SGH-T989D using xda premium
Ugh, don't listen to any of these guys. Anyone with issues on either recovery simply don't know how to use them. Best advice I can give you is to NOT USE THE DARKSIDE CACHE OR SUPERWIPE with CWM 6.0.x.x.
They break your CWM installation. Other than that I feel the same way you do. TWRP is great but I'm just used to CWM and prefer it. It's been on all 6 android devices I've owned and I trust it. Hard to break old habits!
Also, use the steps in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1926754 to flash your ROMs. Should be smooth sailing. Either I'm lucky and my phone is perfect or my flashing method is key but I never have any issues with any ROMs that aren't already established by the original ROM developer.

Funny thing is when the Evo came out we all used AmonRA and that was the recovery to have and I must admit it neva eva eva eva caused me a problem. Clockwork was the bad stepchild over there so I stayed away from it. So to me old habits are not to use CWM not saying its bad but I had it on my Xoom and my Epic touch but now they both rock TWRP and itz the shiznicks..... To each his own
Don't know of I can or not but. I wanted to be certain. Also which is more stable cwm, or twrp?
Ive always used cwm but I read that twrp fixes emulated SD card issues???.

AFAIK the clockwork doesn't depend on whether you are on aosp or else.
I guess the stability is about the same but I'd prefer TWRP because it's more userfriendly and has more features.
And as I never had emulated sdcard issues, i can't tell u anything about that.

Did you flash an at&t rom? That's the main reason it'd do that to you. Check your build prop for i747 and d2att. Google how to do that if you aren't sure. Your SIG shows the use of it so I'm guessing you did.

I used CWM for years and started having problems with it when I started flashing 4.2. CWM had some problems flashing the roms correctly and with the multiple profile storage and TWRP was a little ahead of them when it came to fixing those problems. So I jumped to TWRP and never looked back. I prefer it for serveral reasons. The interface is more friendly, backing up and restoring roms are a bit faster and the overall fetures will keep me with TWRP.
Right now I have switched to CWM newest touch, as I was having issues with TWRP V 2.5.0.0 I tried to update via phone at work to 2.5.0.1 but goo manager was given me issue with their servers. But why do devs recommend TWRP over CWM and which do you prefer to use..

It doesn't seem too wipe everything flawlessly which is why i stopped using clockwork, i'd much rather wipe them as needed, i dont wanna have too wipe dalvik and let it rebuild if i just want too wipe the cache real quick. Idk, it doesn't really matter it's just preference.
Been runnin twrp for years.
twrp, no question.

Hi everytime I flash an tw rom on first boot everything works perfectly but as soon as I reboot I get this error phone.android.com has stopped and it keeps doing it so force closing each 15 seconds..
I tried to reflash whit a full wipe various times different tw roms but it still happens??
Also while im at it dont feel like opening another thread I have cwm6 touch the latest and during a nandroid backup it says backup of /data has failed some sort of error ....
I really want to go back to tw tired of aosp any ideas?

Wipe everything and odin flash the root66 firmware. Start over from full stock rooted, but clean.
Run your nandroid again and write down the error. (Save log to sd).
Seems to me there is some corrupted data getting left behind. I'd format the external sd as well. But at least backup and delete the Android folder. (Contains 2 folders inside, data and obb). You can rename to Android-bak if you prefer. Do this before wiping and flashing root66.

The data error I had too, but on twrp and it's a known thing all over recovery threads for a while now. The error thing happened to me a while back but a root66 fixed that, you should also get the other bug fixed with in the same process.

There's no reason at all to be nervous about trying a different recovery. Thousands of people have been using it w/o issue. Personally I think they are both really good, I just prefer twrp. Give it a shot, if you don't like it, install cwm.
It shouldn't do anything at all to your current rom. Recovery is on a completely different partition. And you can install w/o flashing. Use goo manager for twrp or rom manager for cwm.
