Connecting KF HD with tethering - Kindle Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everybody, I already know that you talked several times about this topic... anyway the posts I found didn't help me to get the rid of this issue.
I have a Kindle fire hd 7", sw version 7.2.2 and I'd like to exploit the 3G connection on my Nokia C6-00. There, I installed a free sw that turn my phone into a wifi hotspot... anyway the kindle is not able to hook that connection.
I tried to install the ZT-180 app... anyway after configuring SSID/WEP credentials and switching over the adhoc mode... the kindle device shows that the wifi connection configured is out of range... something not true since I tested that adhoc connectivity!
How can I fix it?

[Q] Android 2.3.3 wifi compatability problems in custom roms

hi guys, go easy on me its my first post
love the website the guides have helped me to successfully downgrade, s-off and flash custom roms to my dhd
I searched for the answer to this question but couldnt find anything. Is there any plan for custom rom developers to fix the 2.3.3 rom wifi compatability problems with speedtouch modems, as this is the only reason i cant use 2.3.3 based roms? (a lot of people have this problem with the stock rom but it is also in leedroids new one, android rev. etc) Would like to ask this in the android dev section but i need 10 posts for that.
Thanks for the help you lot have already given me, and i love the video!
Steve
Hi, welcome and congrats on your first post.
What specifically is the problem with the wifi? Is it specific to a type of authorisation (WEP, WPA/2) issue or something else?
thanks
this is a link to a detailed description of this exact problem: http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-1063103.html
i really dont expect anyone to go through the hassle of reading this, so summarized it says that ever since the gingerbread 2.3.3 update the phone is capable of connecting to all modems, but cannot transfer data on certain ones (such as the speedtouch modems)
I found a good post on this in a german forum a couple of weeks ago but i cant find it now, (i'll keep looking) but it said the problem was that some modems transmit with n and some with b or something like that. and that the only answer was to wait (ages) for a stock rom update (2.3.4?) as 2.3.3 isn't compatible with these types of modems
i would have expected this had been solved in the custom roms though
this is a qoute from the link below
"It turns out the Be Box router which Be supplied, which is a THOMSON ST585v6, is not compatible but also other versions of THOMSON routers as well."
ptth://vvv.htcdesirehdforum.com/htc-desire-hd-troubleshooting/wifi-issue-with-gingerbread-update/ (change the ptth to http and vvv to www) i cant post outside links
Ok, just read through that thread. What model of Speedtouch router are you using?
One workaround is to use a static IP. Have you tried this? I can help you set this up if required.
HTC seem to blame this issue on Google, as an Android issue. Not sure about that as any ROM that uses Gingerbread would exhibit the same problem, which isn't the case.
modem is a Thompson Speedtouch ST585 v6
Thanks but i have already tried and the modem only works with dynamic IPs (tried to solve it with a static IP for ages with my dad but it didnt work xD)
This qoute from dioky on page 4 of the link below states (i'm pretty certain) the problem: (i clicked the thanks button for this answer)
"Hi there,
I have the same WiFi problems as all of you.
Furthermore I can confirm that changing ROM (ARHD or Leedroid) won't help, if you stay with Gingerbread versions, that is.
I found out that:
* Data won't flow (although connected fine) to SpeedTouch WiFi access point (b/g).
* Data won't flow (although connected fine) through D-Link DAP1360 .
* BUT: does flow (and connected fine off course) through Belkin G Plus MIMO access point (g)!
I have rechecked it by reflashing back to ARHD 3.7 returning to ARHD 5.1.7 and ARHD 5.1.4 and LeeDroiD 3.0.3.
Which in all, makes me conclude that there definitely is something on the software side concerning compatibility!
For now, I will return to ARHD 3.7 Android 2.2.1 until solution is found.
Regards,"

Does anybody know if the Rom devs.plan to solve this (or even know about this problem)?
any ideas peeps?? this is a major problem for me
You want to try giving a static IP another shot?
i'm pretty sure it wont work as i tried to solve the prob like this but whatever i did i couldnt get it to work. but i'll give it another shot. another idea would maybe be updating the modem drivers if there is such a thing?
What is your routers current firmware version? And is that a branded router?
i really have no idea. i'm a total noob with routers
can you tell me an easy way how i could find out?
Sure, are you using your PC to access the web at the minute?
If you install TeamViewer I could show you.
?????? What is that ?
Its a piece of software that will allow me to remotely control a computer.
I can confirm that I have this problem with 2.3.3 and my Thomson/SpeedTouch 585v6 (FW 6.1.4.3) too.
It seems to connect WiFi fine, even assigns an IP but nothing actually works.
Solution for Wifi problem 2.3.3
Hello!
I have the same problem on my DHD with 2.3.3
Before there is an permanent fix for this You could manually configure the IP adress in the phones Wifi and it works great.
You can not use the DHCP in the phone.

I should have mentioned that I actually have a HTC Desire (not HD). But the ROM is a 2.3.3. It actually assigns the IP via DHCP just fine.
I have already tried manually assigning the IP address (and other fields) but still no luck.
There are those who can connect with a manual IP and a few, even after assigning it manually, still can not connect.
i tried using a static IP but it doesnt work..tried for days now
sounds like i am one of the few it doesnt work for after assigning manually...
i am a total noob but i was wondering if it would be possible for a custom rom dev to take the wifi drivers from froyo and use them in a gingerbread based rom??
UPDATE
I called up my ISP requesting a newer firmware for the 585v6 router (although I know it is no longer supported). Anyway, without any hassle at all, they gave me the newer: TG585 v7 router with firmware 8.2.23.0 (pre-installed).
This connects without any problems to my 2.3.3 ROM (RCMix 2.0).

my HTC DHD cannot connect to wifi ad-hoc

Hi all,
I set up my laptop as an adhoc wifi .my Ex iPhone can see it and successfully connect to it however my phone can't see the wifi name
I've tried manually entering the connection name and password but no luck is there any solution to this I just dropped an Iphone I don't want to feel bad about it this way . I can connect via cable why not ad-hoc wifi
please is there any solution I'm now !
Really ! answer yet
Android's Ad-Hoc functionality is disabled, so you simply can't connect to ad-hoc networks.
But behold, the dev community has created a patch for it.
Further information (and the patch) can be found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14441201&postcount=3581 (from the ARHD thread)
will it be safe . I mean can I fix it if i doesn't work without Hard reset !
Yeah I believe there was a flashable zip to reverse the update posted too.
Didn't work my device keeps restarting. I had to re flash again.
Thanks any way

Avoided poor internet connection

It started today. Everytime I try to connect to my WiFi connection, it goes in a loop of connecting and disconnecting and finally it says "Avoided poor internet connection". After I click connect, the signal drops from maximum to 1 bar. I'm on Arconium ICS, but I've been using CM9 before and I had the same problem (that's why I switched to Arconium). This issue seems to be present in all the ICS ROMs. Any idea to fix it?

There is another solution made by Mike Duskis at android.stackexchange.com/questions/22848/what-does-avoided-poor-internet-connection-mean (xda forums won't let me post the whole link). The solution involves deleting the files inside folder /data/misc/dhcp
Assign Fixed IP address
Hey i had the same problem on both Stock Rom and CM9...i did delete the files in the DHCP folder...but the problem kept showing up every few days....but i solved it completely by assigning a fixed IP address to the network...on both the router and phone
so this is it
Your device manufacturer/model : mito a300
Your mobile operator : XL,simPATI (dual gsm)
A dump of system log messages. what message?
Your ROM information : sorry i dont know, but i use stock rom
What you've done and what's not working : turn of wifi and turn it on,do same with the router, wipe data (phone) , reflashing, and use your apps :crying:

Turn off WiFi setting
What has worked on several of my android devices and my Win 8 computer is:
go to "Settings" and turn off the wifi. Wait 30 seconds.
Turn it back on and most devices will quickly connect.
A simple fix for the devices in my house. Good luck!

has anyone actually ever had success blocking initial update with a fire tv STICK?

i do not believe that this is possible i have tried it over 100 times now and i get the same results every single time
so has anyone recently bought a new fire tv stick and been able to block the new update during initial setup using this guide ?
i do not believe this guide works anymore
http://www.aftvnews.com/how-to-complete-the-fire-tv-initial-setup-without-updating/#comment-251719
because i have been through it over 100 times now, and can never get past step 12
i can never get to the registration screen no matter what i do
so can somebody even confirm that this guide still works? can you please also check your SN and manufactured date and post it if you have either had success or have failed at this same step
i need to know whether to return these devices and i only have a few days left thanks
oops just realized i posted in the wrong section
in my defense there were other question threads i have been posting in in this same section
and i am new here
anyway this can be a survey and reporting thread
report the manufactured date of your new fire stick
and if you have been able to successfully block the initial update during setup or not
post your method of how you got it to work if you have had success
post the point where it failed if you have not had success
i have not seen any reports of anyone ever having gotten this to work yet and i am very skeptical that it is even still possible to complete the setup process and avoid updates on recently manufactured devices
not sure if it works but you could try disconnecting the internet from router leave the wifi switch on allow the stick to connect to wifi then i assume it will not update, please report back if it work last guy didnt

i dont know what you are talking about when you say "wifi switch" , what is that?
i do leave the wifi on , i do disconnect the internet from my router, this is what i have been doing , i did it about 100 times now , when it says connection successful then i pull the ethernet cable out from the back of the router the one going to the modem before it says checking for updates , and then it will just hang at the checking for updates screen for about an hour and then go back to the error message screen, then i hit back ,chose my network again reconnect the wifi router to my modem ,enter my network password, go to advanced enter my settings for open DNS ,hit connect again ,pull the cable out from the back of the router when it says connection successful ,then it goes to checking for updates, hangs for an hour then goes to the error screen, infinity ,there is no way to get to the registration screen following the only guide i can find on how to do this, it never works
FTVS w/Voice Remote

I rooted my stick with KingRoot and followed the steps for blocking OTA for root ftv and has been working for me, wasn't even aware a update came out till I just checked here so working without issue.
This is the guide I used:

Device stuck on "Searching for networks"

Hello! I rooted my fire stick and installed a prerooted image. Now, after installing it, it is stuck in the beginning menu, and stuck on "Searching for networks". I am quite sure I didn't damage any Wi-Fi chip or anything while opening it, so any help as to how I could make it find my wifi network? It stalls on "Searching" forever and eventually restarts every 5 minutes..
Alternatively, if any kind soul could send me their system image or data image of their working Fire Stick 2 (tank), that would be amazing, because I think the issue is not with my fire stick but with the setup system that comes before the homescreen.
I had this happen to me but on two fire tv's 2015(sloane) , if i flashed the newest version of the prerooted rom i would get the searching for networks, i would even get a bootloop. I ended up flashing 5.2.6.7_r2 , was able to set WiFi. Then I would flash the 5.2.6.8_r1 prerooted rom over it. I'm not sure if this would be the same for the stick, but it's worth a shot.
Alright. I will try finding older bin files of the Fire Stick 2, and then flash the prerooted images over it. Thanks for the advice.
That didn't work. I used the oldest possible release I could find, but it would glitch at finding networks. I think I will try Ethernet through OTG.

Same here after flashing tank-5.2.6.9-rooted_r1.zip and tank-5.2.7.0-rooted_r1.zip. Stuck on searching networks and no ADB control over the AFTV because PC RSA fingerprint is not authorized to connect through ADB.
Did you find any solutions?
